Hypocrisy, Thy Name is Daschle [Mon. a.m. Breaking News]

(bumped up from Sunday . for some reason, the phrase, “It’s the cover-up …” keeps running through my mind, especially since Daschle knew about these tax problems clear back in June but failed to disclose them. NEW: Musings on Daschle’s chances for confirmation, by David “Diapers” Vitter and Sunday’s Fox news panel, from NoQuarterUSA’s YouTube Channel thanks to Truthtelling007. - Susan)

Breaking News! (6:10 a.m., 02/02/09):Daschle ‘embarrassed’ over tax issues” (That makes it all better, right? Nothing to see here anymore, so let’s just move along now.)

[NOTE FROM LARRY JOHNSON (Feb. 1, 2009) -- Right on, Uppity. Lady, you read my mind. Rather than write a separate article I wanted to weigh in at the start. We cannot take Barack Obama seriously as a "candidate of change" when he winks and nods at the bullshit perpetuated by Washington insiders like Tom Daschle. Daschle may not have been a formally registered lobbyist, BUT BY GOD HE WAS A LOBBYIST! And a wealthy one at that. If it walks and quacks like a duck, it is probably a duck. He became a millionaire peddling his previous status as the majority leader of the Senate to folks in the health care industry.

Are we to believe that Tom Daschle is a moron? That he does not understand that when someone gives you a limo and a driver worth a $250,000 that it is income? That when someone gives you more than $80,000 in a year it is income you must report on your taxes? Yet he forgot? Sure Barack, you want change. Yet you are enabling the very thing people wanted to get rid of. And just like George Bush, your loyal followers don't give a shit and will excuse the inexcusable. If you were serious about fixing Washington you would pull Dashcle's nomination. It is now clear you are not serious. Just another politician playing the Washington game.]

Besides making a killing on ethanol and increasing world starvation, Tom Daschle is just one more tax thief. He’s perfect for the job!

“Yesterday I cheated this much!”

daschle

Taxes for thee, not me.

While more people in the world reach starvation levels due to a shortage of corn and the tripling of the cost of other grains, Corn King Tom Daschle has been ironically tapped to be the Secretary of “Health and Human Services”.

If that isn’t ironic unto itself, he is another thief who scurried to pay back taxes after a nomination tap. This is the same thief who, when he was in office, called corporations Benedict Arnold for not paying taxes.

The Senate Finance committee will meet Monday to review the tax records of former Sen. Tom Daschle, President Obama’s nominee for secretary of health and human services.

Oh make me laugh will you? We all know the worth of your Kabuki “reviews”.

You guys would confirm Dracula if Obama decided he wanted to put him in charge of the blood bank.

Why don’t you thieves just cut the crap and do a blanket approval of everybody so we don’t have to listen to your lying BS on TV for a week? That way, Tony Rezko could be put in charge of HUD from his jail cell.

You all make me sick. You have no ethics, no competence, no loyalty to America and no conscience. And you’re malicous in abuse of your power. You all belong in jail with room mates named Bubba.

According to a committee memo obtained Friday by CNN, the group’s concerns include the use of a limousine and driver that Daschle didn’t disclose on his income taxes and nonpayment of taxes on more than $80,000 he earned in consulting fees after leaving the senate.

Daschle also apparently once filed a tax form listing charitable donations to organizations that did not qualify for a deduction, according to the memo.

…snip…

Daschle, 61, of South Dakota, served in the Senate from 1987 to 2005 and served as Democratic leader from 1995 until after he was defeated in a re-election bid in 2004.

I always said that the people didn’t UnElect Tom Daschle for nothing. Now he’s going to be put in charge of that big huge black money hole known as Health Care. These cheaters and thieves always prefer appointments to slots where there are the best opportunities to stuff untraceable money in their pockets.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said that Daschle brought the issues to the committee’s attention himself and that Obama is “confident” he will be confirmed.

So am I. Now why is that?

More Dick Cheney replacement$. Meet the new majority. Same as the old majority.

America, you are so pwned.

**Update: Total back taxes suddenly paid: $128,203.

Just the ethanol scam alone should be enough to disqualify Daschle from getting anywhere close to the Federal government.

Comment by sowsear | 2009-02-01 13:18:17

What burns me up most about those ethanol subsidies is that they were told that making ethanol used more energy than it produced. How could anyone think that was a real solution? Add that to the disruption in the grain markets and you have insanity.(And the usual crowd making money).

Liberals love tax increases because they know how to evade them.

If the the brightest among us can’t figure out how to file their taxes, how they expect the least educated among us to do it?

Comment by jbjd | 2009-02-01 11:30:32

You don’t have to be bright to be corrupt.

KmX, let’s not forget the republicans and their off shore accounts in the Caymen Islands. The Democrats may know how to evade taxes (we just forget to pay them, WHOOPSIE), but republicans are masters at actually creating tax loop holes. I concede to your greatness.

So … the change is just lowering standards to meet those of the administration you berated for the past eight years? I see ….

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2009-02-01 11:58:27

Nah, we just lack the imagination of the Cheney and Bush crowd. They were much smarter than Daschle. Instead of outright breaking the law, they changed it to benefit them. We’re a little slow on the uptake. I’m being snarky, beebop. But it does seem that way. Besides since when do true democrats take money from the likes of drug companies and insurance companies? They are the enemy. But hey, Obama took money from Exelon, and he’s got a defense industry lobbyist as 2nd in command at the DoD. These guys are not true democrats. And in no way are they liberals.

Comment by heather | 2009-02-02 11:46:16

BTW, drug companies are not the enemy. Would you like them to go by the wayside, or will you be one to say “No thanks” when you’re ill and need the pharmaceuticals that come from the brains and hard work housed in these big bad companies?

I see an alarming trend toward this whole “business bad”, “government supported good” thing. Business is the lifeblood of our economy and provides jobs and products that keep people warm, fed, and clothed. Businesses should not have to be warm and fuzzy. Their function is to provide a needed good or service. As a result of providing a needed good or service, they provide jobs for those who choose to work. People who work, get to eat and buy the things that they need or want. It’s kind of a quid pro quo thing. Businesses are meant to make profits. Profits allow them to grow and improve products, hire more people, ….you get the picture.

Any business that you think is unethical, you may certainly forgo their product, but last time I checked, most of us rely on this whole business thingy to survive. I, for one, am not a hunter-gatherer, so I’m all for business.

Comment by UKforDems | 2009-02-02 11:53:26

Drug Companies do not compete in a free market though, they are protected by Coporate Socialism that results in US and African “consumers” paying far more than Europe.

It is a myth to say that without overly tough intellectual copyright there would be no R&D. Most medical advances have not arisen as a result of profit, but by accident.

Comment by Ferd Berfle | 2009-02-02 11:48:22

Hell, they all have off-shore bank accounts. Our new bosses are just as corrupt as our old bosses. The only real difference is that the old ones didn’t try to lie as much about what they were doing and the new ones do.

Either way, they get richer while the middle class disappears.

Liberals love tax increases because they know how to evade them.

And the conservatives on Wall Street don’t know how to evade taxes? I don’t want to point any fingers, unless it’s the middle one, and here is where I want to direct it:

At the Democrats
At the Republicans
At all 3 branches of government
At the electorate, all 69 whoop-de-doo million of them
At Bush, at Obama

We have a big political center that is very disgusted and ready to move. And not a leader in sight.

I can’t believe he’s not been fired by now. That’d make what, the 3rd or 4th time? He is just terrible on any broadcast on any subject.

Comment by truthtelling007 | 2009-02-02 10:25:29

It has everything to do with the fact he came from sports radio…and since its a mostly boys network at this point…do the math. LOL

The only thing I find useful in his show, is that Countdown and Maddow are the only ones still keeping up with the crimes of the Bush and Cheney admins.
What I abhor most about them is they don’t seem capable of doing the same thing about Obama.
CNN does not do a very good job at covering it, but has gotten better, and forget FoxNews doing anything close to accountability.

However, FoxNews and CNN are more likely to cover Obama’s errors than MSNBC, so a bit of counterbalance is necessary.

As a news junkie, I’m having to surf too many channels at once to get the seeds of real stories, the rest I have to dig and get myself.

The day these guys stop opinion making shows might be quite an improvement.

(note: at least Glenn Beck was finally shuttled over to Fox where his punkass belongs)

Comment by heather | 2009-02-02 12:08:52

Conservatives love to cut taxes, period. To say that the “rich” don’t pay taxes because of George Bush is laughable. I am in the category of probably what you would call “the rich” (although nowhere near the likes of the Hollywood Dems, or senators), and I can tell you that last year my husband and I paid more taxes than many will pay in a lifetime, especially since many don’t ever pay at all. Because my husband’s commissions don’t ever get taxed at the right rate, and because most of the deductions that many take for granted are phased out for us, we had to write a check for $50000 at the end of the year to supplement the 28% that he paid all year. Now, you may say that we are lucky to have the money to pay it, which we are, but when folks say that the “rich” don’t pay their share, I could show you a tax return or two that would prove that we do pay and much. Now as the for the really rich, who have ways of avoiding taxes, like offshore accounts and such, we don’t have access to anything like that.

We are also the least likely family to need to take advantage of government largess. We don’t carry credit card debt, don’t take out loans for cars, put half down on our house and have never been late on a payment. We don’t own boats or planes, or take our kids on expensive vactions. We donate to charity, take care of our own children, and get thanked by being demonized for not doing enough. I’m probably a dope for doing this, but usually when I donate things, I don’t deduct them from the taxes, because that’s not why I give, as opposed to folks like Tim Geithner, who would deduct his dental floss if he thought he could get away with it (and he probably could).

I was fortunate enough to have parents who helped me pay for my college education, but I worked my butt off to get a degree in computer engineering. My husband came from a family where education wasn’t a priority, so when I married him, he was really only able to get jobs where he didn’t make much and got treated like crap. Rather than complain about it, we read the writing on the wall and he went back to school to earn a degree (which we had to sacrifice like heck to pay for without loans or grants from the government), which enabled him to get better jobs. He works hard, has to pay extra for his health insurance, doesn’t have a pension, and doesn’t have a guarantee that he will keep his job no matter how he performs like union workers do. And yet, all we hear is how unfair it is from the other side. I’m kind of tired of it. It’s a disinformation campaign that has taken on the aura of fact, and it’s frustrating to listen to folks talk about it the way that they do.

Okay, ahem. I’m stepping off of my soapbox now, but really, you’ve got to consider that there is an agenda out there that is demonizing business and those who have been successful, and we shouldn’t be looking to tear everything down so that we all stand at the same, low level. We should be figuring out how to bring more of us up.

One of the worst things I learned this past year was that I have no control of my government. Amy Klobuchar and others put myself, my children and grandchildren into debt in the 700 billion bail out, which was really a 700 billion bucket of slop to dump into the trof for the Bush Cheney pigs. Now they are being wheeled away or in some cases fork lifted away.

Now a new bucket needs filling for the new pigs. An “econommic stimulus package” is the new cover story. So now my grand children’s children, grand children and great grandchildren will be enslaved.

What we are creating here is a world wide permanent class of wealth holders. I doubt that beyond this point redistribution of wealth will ever be possible again.

This morning hearing about Tom Daschel was the last straw.

I am retired so I can’t do it, but I urge everyone who reads this to go into work on Monday and increase the number of dependents to 20 (I think that is the legal limit).

Give your selves a raise.

Indeed. Hell, why stop with 8? Let’s set another record!

Comment by beebop | 2009-02-01 11:56:10

She’s still got reproductive years ahead of her. Only got 14? Is there a Guinness Record to be broken? I’m sure there’s some quack doc and a sperm donor some where to fulfill all of her needs to have another group of babies she’s unable to provide for.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2009-02-01 12:24:25

Beebop, that woman makes me so mad. My twins were born at 28 weeks, and they suffered so much. I would have given anything to stop the blood draws, the lung treatments, the surgeries. One twin has some pretty severe health conditions just because he was hatched on the wrong side of the womb. His brother got the lion’s share of the nutrients and was much bigger and stronger. And I did everything I could to ensure they were born healthy. We wound up in debt up to our eyeballs because of the health costs. My husband even re-upped for the military just to ensure we didn’t go on the government dole. This woman knew the risks to the babies and still, after already squeezing out 6 babies, decided to have eight more. How many of these babies will suffer what my little guys went through and wind up with life long health concerns and other problems. We barely have the funding to help the special needs children already here and this wench cranks out eight more innocent children that may wind up being cared for by the state. My greatest fear is that my special guy will wind up in some state run home after we die or become a financial burden to his brothers. Ugh. You struck a nerve. The medical costs for these guys will easily be in the millions before the first year is up. And you and I are picking up the tab for a choice she made. If she didn’t already have six, maybe I could understand but…

Comment by beebop | 2009-02-01 12:27:45

The doctor who implanted all eight should have to pay the bills. He did what he did in defiance of any acceptable practice in reproductive health. I hope that they find him and nail his ass to the wall.

I hope for your sake that we as a nation start to wise up about health care for all Americans. And my heart goes out to you. My sister’s best friend has a set of twins where both boys are autistic. They work night and day to stimulate and educate those darling boys.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2009-02-01 12:34:50

Thanks Beebop. Both twins autisitc? Oh gawd. Poor things. Only one of mine is autism spectrum. High functioning but it hurts like hell to see him try and interact with his brother and his friends. He knows he’s different and gets frustrated and his twin tries so hard to take care of him. They have a very strong bond.

Comment by NCgirl | 2009-02-01 12:42:25

I’m so sorry that your babies had to suffer so much Strawberry. It must have been shear torture for you. The woman that just gave birth to the octuplets is obviously mentally ill. Nobody would do something like that otherwise. The clinic that did the in-vitro should be shut down. California is already in such dire staights financially, it is a travesty that the tax payers will have to foot the bill for the babies’ medical care, and it will be an astronomical amount.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2009-02-01 12:55:47

Thanks NC. But the whole ordeal has made them tough as nails. And they are both fighters, they fight everything and everybody. It’s a knock down drag out brawl to get them to brush their teeth. I’m just stunned that there are no regulations in regards to in vitro. Gawd, I really hate having to pass more laws but when stuff like this happens, what else can be done? This is actually my only concern with stem cell research…there will be some boneheads that pull some unethical crap in order to make a profit. Beebop is right, the doctors need to be held accountable as well.

Comment by elise | 2009-02-02 05:02:35

The AMA ethics board should police their own. If the woman turned around and sued them, they might have second thoughts about something so irresponsible.

Comment by Chris | 2009-02-02 10:31:16

According to a fertility doc on Fox this am, there are standards that should have been followed to protect the innocents that are born from in-vitro. No more than 2 should have been implanted due to risk for the babies. He was incensed at whoever this doc was that did this and said it never, never should have happened. Now the mother is going on Oprah etc. to try and get dollars to pay for her lunacy. The shameful, awful thing is that those little ones will pay the price. I am convinced that many people are now truly without consciences and have no other agenda than greed and self serving. It is so prevalent in every part of our society from poor to wealthy. So very, very sad.

Also one of her friends reported that when she asked the mother how she was going to handle this, she said she is being paid. However she didn’t ask her to explain. Very suspicious.

She has a bachelor’s degree in child development (!) and has been working on a masters in counseling (Gawd help us). I want to know who paid for her fertility treatment, and when the clinic will be brought up on charges for allowing a woman in her situation to have * embryos implanted.

That’s the problem–they don’t. One man’s bushbot is another’s oblahblahbot.

When the non-Kool-Aide drinking center decides enough is enough, maybe something good will be accomplished. I’m not holding my breath.

The unwashed herd in this country keeps voting against their own self-interest over meaningless things such as “gay marriage” or “abortion rights”, neither of which will make one healthy, wealthy, or wise. They are merely wedge issues which drive the electorate to vote in very stupid ways. The last three election cycles have borne this out. There are other wedge issues, of course, which are too numerous to recount.

I had higher, more positive hopes. That the revulsion over Obama, and how the country has been conned and humiliated worldwide, would somehow cause people to wake up and reevaluate voting for self interest over the good of the country. This last one was so severe as far as self interest…People voted for Obama because of abortions, gay rights, race, etc. ignoring that he is just plain dangerous to us. None of those voters are going to get what they want. My hope was that they would realize it, band together, get rid of this boil on our butts, Obama, and start rethinking their votes. One can only hope that there IS a collective brain in this sad country that will eventually prevail.

What do think of Michael Steele’s saying that if he can get agreement on 8 of 10 major issues (e.g., less spending and more border security) with those inside and outside of the Republican party, he’ll be pleased (abortion and gay marriage being the 2 issues on which there may never be agreement—ergo, let those issues be decided at the state level)? Personally, I could live with that (and I’m very Conservative.

Sorry for the l-o-n-g question…

Comment by andrew191 | 2009-02-01 14:14:59

Remarkably, this country is divided almost down the middle on most controversial issues. William F. Buckly was the father of modern conservatism, yet he was for drug legalization, ( a Libertarian position). Many liberals were gung ho for the war on terror and the invasion of Iraq. All people who call themselves either liberal or conservative are not totally in lockstep with every position adopted by either side, we’re all as unique as our finger prints. There are “Log Cabin” republicans and hawkish democrats, Michael Steele obviously understands this. Obama does too.

The difference between Steele and Obama is that Steele believes in his heart what he advocates, Obama adopts any position (sometimes two opposing positions at the same time) based upon the amount of support and adulation it earns him, not based upon his own incomprehensibly nebulous convictions. Hopefully, it won’t take too long for his supporters to understand that Obama doesn’t give a rat’s ass about them or this country, he’s far too obsessed and busy with his own self deification.

Comment by Cubs in 09 | 2009-02-01 20:40:15

I do not see the Obama mania dying down at all. BO will continue getting a pass by the newsmedia on our disasterous economic problems. They never stop reminding us that these problems have been courageously taken on by this saint of a man.

He is being given high praise for every move he makes, for his *brilliance*, and even his not answering questions is being tauted as “cool”. MSNBC’s Nora O’Donald blew out one of the republican house members she was interviewing last week, whining as to WHY he wasn’t supporting *THE PRESIDENT’S* stimulus package when he was trying so hard to *BRING US ALLLLL TOGETHER*. What a loon!

I’m just curious…At what point do the Kool Aid drinkers realize they’ve been had?

A great number of them are dependents, still hitting their parents up for supplementary income so that they might appear ‘upscale’. When this all dries up and there are no more ways to get others to help you buy bright shiny objects and you are on your own, then they will realize they’ve been had.

Come on. We all know plenty of them. Many of them are still home at age 30. They don’t pay for heat, property taxes, food, car insurance or much of anything else but the new clothes and ipods. Their parents even pay for their cell phones. Even if they move out.

So the fun of reality is coming soon. Somebody is going to have to pay for this party.

But I don’t think it’s such a bad thing for people to get a swift kick in the pants and reality check because the voters really screwed themselves, and US, this time. The party’s already started to wind down. Between the gays, blacks and women who are raising their eyebrows and going WTH already…it’s not going to take long. I just pray that this Pork Bill doesn’t pass and sink us further. I hate the MSM. Today our paper has a big front page BS article about how great it is. It just never ends, the lies and bias.

Ah, that Daschle is small potatoes when it comes to hypocrisy. The ultimate in hypocrisy is Alabama former Gov Guy Hunt (who died a couple of days ago).
After being found guilty of stealing $200,000 from an inaugural fund (and using it for personal gain–this guy, by the way, was a MINISTER) in 1994, he was ordered to pay $12,000 in restitution. The man pled that he was financially unable to pay more than $100 a month (meaning he’d have it paid off in 10 years), and the court actually allowed it. Well, by early 1998, after having paid off about $3000, he decided he needed to run for Governor again, but one little problem stood in his way: He was still a felon, and that’s the one thing that precludes one from running for political office in the state. Political junkies in the state believed he could run, provided he received a full pardon in time. The biggest obstacle to the pardon, however, was the rest of the fine. Hunt, who’d claimed to be financially unable to pay off his fine for years, SUDDENLY paid off the remaining fine and went before the State Parole Board which declared him “innocent” and this allowed him to file qualifying papers to run in the 1998 GOP primary. (As I recall it, he managed to convince some friends to make him a loan to pay off the fine, and then got them to forgive the loan so he wouldn’t have to pay them back.)
In the end, Hunt lost the primary and his attempt to make a “political comeback” failed. (Some think it was his overt scheming that hurt the GOP’s chances that November.)

I’m beginning to hear the same excuse as with Geithner, the health system is in a desperate state and this is the only human on the planet that can save the day. Paying ones taxes, hey everyone jay-walks the street every now and then! Does my memory serve me right isn’t this the former Sen. Majority leader who could not win reelection in his own state 4 yrs ago?

Comment by uppity woman | 2009-02-01 12:42:26

When did you EVER hear Daschle’s name associated with health care till now? The only part he played was he lobbyed for his own gain.

Daschle is a fish on a bicycle when it comes to this issue. Unless he’s there to help out the very people who are ripping America off, he has no business being there.

Comment by sowsear | 2009-02-01 13:39:40

I don’t think Obama ever supported universal health care(definitely not like Hillary’s plan). He supported(s) health care for the poor and children but to be generated through the same insurance companies that have controlled things all along. Others not in the above categories would be required to buy their own insurance.
How much money came into BO’s campaign from insurance companies?

Comment by ILBlue | 2009-02-01 18:52:47

Uppity,

I have said exactly the same thing everytime his name comes up. He has no business even being offered this position.

He will not benefit “we the people” and his ties should disqualify him entirely .

But from the minute I heard he endorsed and worked for the Obama campaign I was not in the least bit surprised. He fits right in with that bunch imo.

Agreed! Daschle is a curious choice and a bad one, at that, but he is not alone. He joins Geithner as another criminal rewarded by Obama with a position of power.

You all make me sick. You have no ethics, no competence, no loyalty to America and no conscience. And you’re malicious in abuse of your power. You all belong in jail with room mates named Bubba.

That actually sums it up better than I can.

Maybe they’re talking about health care plans that MIGHT WORK, not just plans that would create bigger bureaucracy that insiders could use to garner more lobbying money.

Most of Hillary’s work, except for the work she did right after Bill’s election and which the Congress shot down, has furthered some necessary changes.

Great photo explanation U W

wOOHOOO!!!Strait up UW, great piece.

and, RIGHT ON Larry.

This is all really so laughable. The media keeps covering for him as long as they think they’ll make extra bucks off his a88 and the BO promoters won’t admit any wrong doing because then he loses credibility. They want any blog to be a cheerleader for him, which mean he will be a disaster, because his supporters are not only not expecting change now, they are covering for his wrong doing. wooohooo!

So, it’s left to us real world patriots that call it as it is.

Dascle makes a Bakers Dozen of Lobbyists and he’s a crook on top of it. WOW!

But we all know Obama had no desire to FIX things, he wanted to get in on the action. And he proves that every day more.

“Formalized in a recent presidential executive order, it forbids executive branch employees from working in an agency, or on a program, for which they have lobbied in the last two years.

Yet in the past few days, a number of exceptions have been granted, with the administration conceding at least two waivers and that a handful of other appointees will recuse themselves from dealing with matters on which they lobbied within the two-year window.

“It would be more honest if they admitted they made a mistake and came up with a narrower rule,” said Melanie Sloan, executive director of the government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. “Obviously, they can’t live with the rule, which is why they keep waving the magic wand and making exceptions. They’re saying one thing and doing another. It’s why the public is skeptical about politicians.”

The slimy liar was in the Senate for eighteen years, when he made no effort at all to do anything to improve health care in the USA. Now he’s a truly bought and paid for “lobbyist” for health care issues, there’s no chance there will be any significant improvement at all. Bambi shouldn’t take his eyes off health care, not that they were ever really on heatlth care. The more people are laid off, the greater the number gets of people who have no health care.

Did he support Hillary’s attempts to change health care? I don’t remember, but I’ll guess he did not. I’ve never liked him. I thought he was a really awful Leader in the Senate. I did notice that he became Democratic Leader in the Senate after being a Senator for only eight years. Who else do we know who was a Senator for eight years and yet hadn’t been there long enough, didn’t have enough seniority, to be Democratic Leader? Why, our very own Hillary.

Obama is “confident” he will be confirmed.

So am I. Now why is that?

Thank you for this, UW. It’s not just me. If we had a press and the American people had a clue, this alone would sink the scam.

For what it’s worth, the unreported consulting income is for $83,333 FOR ONE MONTH. He was making a million a year “consulting” (aka influence peddling) for Intermedia, the same “folks” who paid for his car and driver. But he’s not a lobbyist! He only accepted over $390K from groups like America Health Insurance Plans so he could do the good work of scrounging up a few more 10s of billions to subsidize the purchase of their plans.

I hope we won’t “forget” this after the Super Bowl. This Daschle appointment stinks to the highest heavens of Kabuki Theater. And Obama, we already know you by the fruits of the change you’re bringing.

Comment by DaddysDarlin | 2009-02-01 12:52:36

The American people have lost their say. It no longer matters how we “feel” about these criminals being hired by Obama.
It doesnt matter how we feel about a spending bill that Obama calls a stimulus.
We matter not.
We can keep our G.D. opinions to ourselves and let the “experts” run things.
How are they doing?
Well if every American wanted to be run over by a bus, there feeling pretty good right now.
Obama’s list of pay to play politicians can be spotted everywhere you look, his list of those he can put into positions that would allow them to rob the American people, never ceases to amaze me. Yet nobody really calls him on it.
They pay their back taxes and expect that everything should go their way.
Let’s see, the only damn reason you paid your taxes was because the American people would have found out about it.
Why does Obama want to surround himself with these criminals? Because we surround ourselves with like-minded people, remember Resko, Wright, Ayers? Now it’s Rahm, Daschle, Favreau.
Obama is not my president, you can claim him, but I for one know in my heart this man is ineligible to be my president and its high time our courts stood up for our Constitution!!!
We have been beaten down and battered by this administration, and its barely two weeks old. Obama thinks if he pushes hard enough those republicans will even do his bidding. He is wrong.
I never thought I would see the day when the republicans are standing up for what is right for the American people, but I am happy to see it. Not one vote for the spending bill.
Because of those who refused to see what the rest of us saw in Obama, a criminal of epic proportions, we are stuck with this con-artist.
Unless our courts do the right thing by the American people and uphold our Constitution, we are stuck with a man who is not eligible to be our president.
How is it that we must suffer because of the actions of those worshipers? How do they feel now? Do you think they could actually explain all these appointments away?
I am so sick and tired of watching as one by one these tax cheats are rewarded for their illegal behavior.
If any one of us regular Americans would have cheated on our taxes, we would be drawn and quartered, but if a high ranking government official cheats on his taxes, it was an oversight? It has been corrected and now here’s a high paying job for you to boot!
F**K Obama and his cronies, didnt think he could have cronies so fast did you? They are each and every criminal he has put into office, knowing full well their pasts, some spent with Obama in Chicago, so stupid is as stupid does.

Comment by Johnny Smithfield | 2009-02-01 13:23:15

Sheesh…how many cups of coffee did you have this morning???

“Obama is not my president, you can claim him, but I for one know in my heart this man is ineligible to be my president and its high time our courts stood up for our Constitution!!!” This is where the anti-Obama forces lose me (and a lot of others) who might otherwise have an open mind to your grievences.

As stated below, I am an Obama supporter. But I am not one of those “kool-aid drinkers” who believes him to be the Messiah. He is a smart, charismatic, tough, Chicago pol who caught a wave of righteous discontent and rode it into the WH.

However, enough with the fake COLB allusions, linking articles from Larry Sinclair’s website as “proof” of anything, or mystical tapes about MO railing on white people.

These are serious times people! In any effective democracy, the President needs a serious-minded opposition. Anti-Obama forces shoot themselves in the foot when they continue to push this garbage. It makes you look like irrational loonies (seriously). Read the above rant and ask yourself what reasonable person could rationalize it as a cogent argument and support your cause having read it.

For the most part, the writers on this website seem to have moved beyond this tripe. Hopefully the commenters will do the same in the near future.

Comment by beebop | 2009-02-01 13:33:42

If by “moving” beyond you mean we’ll forget the caucus cheating and buying the presidency, I would recommend that you not hold your breath any time soon. After eight years of a falsely installed regime that had an “R” after his name, I take no pleasure and see no legitimacy from an equally illegitimate “D.”

Comment by Johnny Smithfield | 2009-02-01 13:42:21

Caucus cheating? LOL! Another 1/2 baked PUMA conspiracy.

By caucus cheating, do you mean Obama organizing effectively in the caucus states to offset Hillary’s built-in advantage in the big states?

That’s not called cheating…that’s called strategy.

Comment by beebop | 2009-02-01 13:46:26

uh … did you attend any of those caucuses first hand? I can tell you that I know people who did and if you can with a straight face call verbal and physical intimidation of one candidate’s delegates a “strategy” with admiration, then you might be a Republican in the making. Karl Rove has a place for you in the future of the Party!

And out of curiousity, what is wrong with an advantage in the more populous states? More people equals more voters …. duh.

Comment by Johnny Smithfield | 2009-02-01 13:57:11

uh … did you attend any of those caucuses first hand?

Yup. I live in a fairly conservative suburb of Minneapolis and I can tell you with first-hand knowledge there was NO INTIMIDATION of any kind. Hillary supporters showed up (as did Obama supporters), everyone had their say. It was very respectful, and when we cast our votes, Obama had about a 4-to-1 advantage in my precinct. Sorry…that’s the way it was.

Personally, I prefer the primary system to the caucus system. I think it’s more democratic. But Obama did not invent the caucus system to win. It’s 100 years old and has always been accepted as a fair system. Until PUMA had their say…then all of a sudden Obama “thugs” stole it from them. LOL.

He played by the rules.

Comment by Johnny Smithfield | 2009-02-01 14:14:21

Again this is the attitude many Hill supporters carried around throughout the primary season. Screw Iowa; SC was won only because of the black vote; we won’t win Idaho or Utah anyway in the general; “white bread” Minnesota doesn’t matter.

That attitude alienated a lot of people, as if our voices didn’t matter. As it turned out our voices did matter because you lost.

Statisically that is quite amazing to have so many find their way to one little blog. We were quite shocked when we started sharing stories. Johnny…there’s no arguing with someone who knows nothing. In Texas alone there were 2000 complaints. And a ton of those became police reports as well. Every single caucus state, every single one, reported rampant caucus fraud. It wasn’t just a few people acting badly. It was a long planned, well thought out, incredibly organized plot to take advantage of the weakness in the caucus system. Sorry you get paid to lie about it. But you just can’t pull that stuff around here. We all know what happened and won’t forget it.

Dude, you’re the same as a Bushbot.

Why don’t you just go away and live in your pretty little “bro’s before ho’s” world, and ignore comments like “Harlem is not Bill Clinton’s plantation” by Senator Nelson from NY.

The very fact that uhbama failed to stand up at the very beginning and LEAD against “racist” accusations hurled at Bill and Hillary, and INSTIGATED this slander, shows me ALL I need to know about this mixed race charlatan who pals up with domestic terrorists to dole out millions to inner city Chicago schools teaching black liberation theory.

Better yet, just keep your tv tuned to MSNBC, as the neo-cons did with Faux news.

Because..you’re JUST LIKE THEM, but too fucking blind to see it.

It’s called cheating because the way it worked actually meant his campaign thumbed its nose at the rules of the Democratic party in the states that held caucuses. Maybe, because they were party rules, you think they don’t matter because, after all, the DNC had already “selected” the candidate it wanted. I am sorry, I took party rules to be as important as rules for general election voting. MY BAD!

Since my party had no respect for the rules it has lost my respect and my name as a member.

Unless you were actually involved in the primary by attending caucuses and county, state house district, state senate district, congressional district, and state conventions and assemblies–don’t talk to us who did waste our time at those events about how he used “strategy.” I saw bullying, cheating, and buying of votes.

Comment by Johnny Smithfield | 2009-02-01 16:41:47

OK I came on here to comment on Daschle and agree with Uppity. Obama needs to cut him loose or he’ll be a hypocrite.

But then someone made an inane comment about Obama being illegitimate because he was not “born in America”. So I commented that this was patently false…though the fake COLB rumor was given voice on this site during the campaign it ultimately proved to be complete BS. I simply stated that comments like these by anti-Obama forces only serve to de-legitimate your cause. Beebop made some reference to “caucus fraud” which again was never proven as fact so I challenged her on it.

Incidentally, I did a search of voter irregularities/fraud in the caucuses and couldn’t find any legitimate news sources who could verify any “caucus fraud“ or “caucus irregularities“. The only sites who had “stories” of caucus fraud were PUMA sites, far right wing sites, or neo-Nazi sites like Stormfront. And even their “stories” were 2nd and 3rd hand accounts of ranting supporters, none of which could be verified by others of the MSM.

Interestingly, the only real story I found on voter irregularity was about Obama getting screwed in Hillary supporter Charlie Rangel’s district of Harlem. Despite getting 80-90% support among AA nationwide, there were 83 precincts in Harlem where Obama got zero votes. That’s right…not one single vote. Hmmm…

Anyway, I think some of you are stuck in this weird time warp and you need to get out. Come to the light…it’s not May 2008 anymore! You’re like those Japanese soldiers they found in Borneo 15 years after the war still fighting WW2! Let me translate that into PUMA language: Empress Hill-oito surrendered her forces to the army Gen. Barky Oblowme Soetoro. Since then, Hill-oito has joined forces with Hussein Soetoro and his wench, Michelle “Whitey Tape” Oblowme to take control of the government. The End.

However if it is still May 2008 in your world, let me give you some advice. Take a trip to Vegas and bet everything you have on Pittsburgh and Arizona to make it to the Super Bowl. You’ll be rich!

I applaud NQ writers from staying away from this nonsense and offering insightful analysis on today’s issues (like Daschle’s nomination). It is interesting every time LJ and Susan try to pull the comments section of their blog into the real world, you call them kool-aid drinkers. Ha!

The only sites who had “stories” of caucus fraud were PUMA sites, far right wing sites, or neo-Nazi sites like Stormfront.

Is there a difference?

The one complaining of caucus fraud were the pretend Democrats who got scared that there were black people at the caucus. In the end there were two things PUMA achieved :-

1) It got rid of some really nasty people from the Democratic Party if they ere ever in it at all. Good riddance.
2) They helped secure the election of Obama as Fox presented them as relevant; this led to McCain picking Palin and not much more needs to be said of that

The PUMA lot are just continually and laughably stupid. Darragh (I must have forgotten to dante to Hillary) Murphy continually forgets that she is claiming to be an ex Democrat. One of the people who was doing a “documentary” was banned from here because of her pure hate and they still ptomote every lie and conspiracy theory out there. No matter how extreme the source.

Comment by CraigF007 | 2009-02-01 19:42:23

UKforDems…do you ever get tired of lying? That blathering you just did. Are you so frigging IGNORANT and STUPID that you don’t realize that MANY of the people who reported the Caucus Fraud were BLACK? Maybe you can once and for all stop your BS trolling and do your homework.

PS There are three documentaries being made about this. And you can keep insulting the people who KNOW the Caucus Fraud existed, but one of them is a writer for Susan and Larry, and respected poster here, Dr. Lynette Long. Clearly you haven’t had the intelligence to read her brilliant work and admit that you are wrong and a liar.

Comment by UKforDems | 2009-02-01 22:33:04

Why not try refuting one single point with some real evidence.

As for Lynette Long, she is now promoting what PUMA things would call terrorism if done by black people. It has been doing so since early December. There is an irony in the posting time of its message as well.

I am starting a new group of women warriors, gorilla girls, female fighters…. call us what you will. Picking a name and a uniform will be the tasks of the first meeting. I want twenty-five women who are willing to fight beside me for women’s rights. Women who are willing to get arrested for women’s rights. Women who are not only willing to talk the talk but walk the walk. The group will make precision strikes at selected targets. Strikes might include sitting in the congressional gallery and holding up banners regarding women’s rights, picketing the White House, marching into Pelosi’s office single file, dropping bags of rocks off at an embassy after a woman is stoned, doing a visibility line on Massachusetts Avenue at rush hour or blowing up pictures of our nation’s currency and holding pictures of it outside the Department of the Treasury with sign that read, “where are the women?” We will take pages out of the playbooks of PETA, SEA SHEPARD, CODEPINK, and other groups that are at times annoying but very effective. Here is the job description:

* Women — age 18 to 108, no minors allowed due to the risky nature of the operations.
* Willing to attend weekly strategy meeting in DC.
*Willing to protest at least monthly, maybe weekly in DC.
* We need two photographers who can take photos of our actions.
*We need one videographer who can video our actions and post on you-tube.
*We need two media people who can make contacts with local media and advise them of our actions.
* We need two communications specialists who can contact all the members of the group by text, email, phone, and coordinate communications.
* We need two writers who can blog about our activities.
*We need two lawyers who can advise us if our activities are illegal.
*We need three researchers who help identify targets, research who they are and where they go.
*We need two props people who can create and maintain props.
*

We need creative minds, lots of them, to help think of ways to strike effectively.
*

We need former military people who can help coordinate our activities.
*We need you.

Obviously, I’m serious. This is serious. If you have the kind of dedication and fighting spirit we need, please contact me at drlynettelong@aol.com.

You must live in the Washington DC area. We need to show up where our leaders will and work.

I need you. I want you. Are there 25 brave committed women out there? Let’s see.

All I know is that she, and MANY others, provided accurate documentation and statistics that proved Hillary won the nomination and it was hijacked from her. That’s not sour grapes, as you claim. I wouldn’t have voted for either of them. But I’m American and the squelching of Democracy, what little we have left, has been deeply disturbing to me and the others here. “Incidentally, I did a search of voter irregularities/fraud in the caucuses and couldn’t find any legitimate news sources who could verify any “caucus fraud“ or “caucus irregularities“.”

Hey, in my own county of fairly non-dramatic Colorado, my own county chairperson turned in over 200 names of people who came to the precinct caucuses without being registered Democrats–one of the party rules here. Their precinct captains (I’m guessing bots) allowed them to vote against the rules. She turned their names in and didn’t allow their votes. Now I am guessing this happened all through Colorado, but I’m also guessing that not all county chairs were as concerned about “rules” as was mine.

I personally know many people who tried to get the information out to “legitimate” news sources and nothing came of it. Most of the “legitimate” news sources didn’t want to be seen as taking on a political party.

If you’re putting your money on what you have termed “legitimate” news sources, boy are you in trouble. Go back to your legitimate MSNBC and leave us alone.

Comment by Elsie | 2009-02-03 04:26:36

Apparently you will not find any good source of the irregularity of the primaries and caucuses from the sources you searched.

For one thing MSM purposely omitted those stories because they have been in the tank for Obama. When bloggers all over the internet come up with stories about the election irregularities on the part of the Obama crowd, they needed to be verified. The truth is there is verification especially by the contributors to this website. The anomalies did really happen..

If you discriminate against those sources that ran contrary to your opinion, you will never find the truth or you will continue disagreeing with the truth.

There was every indication that Obama didn’t mean much of what he said while campaigning. Where were you ? He changed his mind and expressed support for an issue at one rally and turned around and said just he opposite at another rally the same day on more than one occasion.

I’m sure Daschele’s “tax oversight” will be described in the same way Geithner’s was: a minor hiccup, an ordinary mistake. And remember Geithner was advertised as the best man, possibly the only man to solve our economic woes. Now we have Daschele touted as the best man, possibly the only man who can solve our health care woes.

See a pattern here?

Sickening. The word applies to Pelosi as well, someone I had great hopes for but who has proven herself nothing more than a partisan hack.

We are screwed!

However, one of my sons called this morning and said judging from the Sunday headlines he’d read in Philly, the Obama honeymoon has come to a shuddering halt. And how long has it been?? Twelve days?

Looks like governing may prove far harder than running an election, the big “experience” lie.

But then, I voted for Hillary. And then the old guy.

Just look at the comments of furious George on the Ledbetter thread and you’ll have your answer about this sort of boneheaded reasoning.

Comment by beebop | 2009-02-01 15:30:06

Little George has no reasoning ability whatsoever ….

Tommy gets him nothing. He let Richardson go. He should cut Tom loose at the first opportunity. He’s not Geithner.

American Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) resulted from merging American Association of Health Plans with Health Insurance Association of America, which was the group that aired the Harry & Louise commercials that helped sink the Clinton health plan. So you see, it’s all Hillary’s fault!

Can Republicans roll back any of the unused stimulus if it does pass, though, and they do come to majority in 2010 ??

If such a provision is even possible-but considering that 97% of the package will be laying around in a secret earmark beauracractic slush fund or otherwise untrackable phony government trust fund, I can only pray they don’t take away our only bearings of fiscal hope and sanity.

Make no mistake, tax cheaters cheat us all, and the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter.” — Sen. Tom Daschle, Congressional Record, May 7, 1998, p. S4507

Comment by oowawa | 2009-02-01 16:25:06

Good find, waterstradt.

That was then, this is now.

From the same 1998 speech, Daschle goes on to provide a moment that seems quaintly nostalgic nowadays:

This year, for the first time in 30 years, we will actually have a balanced Federal budget. In the coming weeks, as we debate the budget, let us remember how hard it has been to eliminate the deficit and what good has come from this fiscal discipline. Let us do nothing that would send us back to where we were 5 years ago, when we were looking at $300-billion-a-year deficits for as far as the eye could see.

And we all know how that worked out.

“Are we to believe that Tom Daschle is a moron?”

Hell no. LOL, but I think I should qualify for the moron exemption. Do you think the government lets me use that as a defense? Oh no, I’m not an accountant, I can’t afford an accountant, but heaven forbid I make one little math error. I’m expected to be on top of every little tax code. And if I have any questions, I’m welcome to ask someone who barely speaks English for clarification. That is, if I ever get past the phone menu.

I’m so sick of these lying hypocritical crooks. We need term limits, and tougher lobbyist laws (that are actually enforced).

Uppity, you rock!

Comment by glennmcgahee | 2009-02-02 08:39:48

Looks likme Johnny had to call in re-enforcements. Now, you Obama voters explain Dashcle and all the other almost, maybe is and wannabe lobbyists and gov’t profiteers his administration is bringing in. At least Hillary did care enough about us that she agreed to take the SOS job so we wouldn’t have to worry as much.

HYPOCRITE IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. Is anyone keeping track of how many campaign promises O has broken? I think it is more than the number of days he’s been in office.

Comment by lizpolaris | 2009-02-02 09:42:01

If it didn’t matter for Tim Geithner, the frikkin Treasury Secretary now head of the IRS, to cheat on his taxes then it won’t matter for Tom Daschle either.

Well, this is change - now the politicians can commit unethical or illegal behavior even BEFORE they get into the federal government. Under Reagan, Bush, and Bush the criminals waited until they were appointed to start looting.

Comment by Sassy | 2009-02-02 11:21:11

Yesterday, on Face the Nation, Bob Schiefer said that dems had told him that Daschle would be “dead meat” IF he didn’t have the connections he does.
Birds of a feather flock together…vultures in particular!

Comment by Ferd Berfle | 2009-02-02 11:31:12

Ah, I finally get it. The change the Democrats were talking about only meant a change in the party looting the treasury and the hope was that they could get to it while there was still some left to distribute to the ones they are beholden to.

Richardson Phat So will be OK, though, as he’ll be appearing in the next James bond film as a crook, which won’t be anything like a stretch for him.

As a former democrat and now independent, I must say that the Dems in the US Senate and Congress love to raise our taxes, but they are the ones who do not want to pay taxes as exemplified by Daschle.

That is the hypocrisy I see..

Comment by mkm125 | 2009-02-02 14:58:45

Daschle was my biggest argument in regard to Obama’s hypocricy during the Primary/GE. I would argue that although Daschle was “technically” not a Lobbyist while working on the Obama campaign (he’s a multi-millionaire who could afford not to collect a salary and “donate” his time and expertise), he would always be a Lobbyist regardless of whether he was employed by a firm our not due to his past “consulting.” President Obama “rewarded” him by his appointment and now we see Daschle is slimier than ever. Hmmm, for some reason being right about Daschle does not make me feel better…….
