What A Week

And I’m not just talking politics. No, rather that I have slept on the sofa for over a week now to be close to our adopted stray, Lucy’s, whelping bed. As some of you may recall, her delivery was imminent. Only it wasn’t. Sigh. She just got bigger and bigger and bigger as the week went on. I should add, Lucy also got more and more uncomfortable. Whenever she would wake up at night, so would I. I’m a wee bit tired.

So, I woke up this morning, and instead of Lucy hopping up to be fed and to go outside, she has stayed in her whelping bed. Yes, at long last, it seems the day is upon us. Coincidentally, this is also the day we ascribed to our kittens as their birthday (we got them from the SPCA, so it was an educated guess). She seems to be getting ready to birth these babies. Yay! I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, if you would like some news that the MSM has kept fairly quiet about, I bring you this Washington Post article, “Obama’s Intelligence Blunder.” While I disagree with the writer’s assertion that Obama’s missteps thus far have been of the, “let’s find something to complain about,” as he said, the rest of the article is mighty interesting.

And to digress, really, I don’t think it is nitpicking to want the head of the IRS to PAY HIS TAXES!!!! Or any other number of people nominated for posts who seem to have never seen any Turbo Tax ads or even any H&R Block commercials! It ain’t rocket science – they’ve made it pretty easy. Or how about Obama’s “Chief Vetter“? His wife, it seems, has failed to pay business taxes. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE??? And how in the world have they gotten away with this kind of behavior? What’s more, why are they operating at the highest levels of our government??? Sheesh. I could go on, but I’ll spare you.

So – back to the article. The big blunder by Obama is this: he has picked a man, Charles (Chas) Freeman to head up the National Intelligence Council. Not only has he expressed serious anti-Israel statements, but let me share with you these comments he made, some in WRITING, I might add. Here we go:

The most extreme manifestation of Freeman’s realist ideology came out in a leaked e-mail he sent to a foreign policy Internet mailing list. Freeman wrote that his only problem with what most of us call “the Tiananmen Square Massacre” was an excess of restraint:

“[T]he truly unforgivable mistake of the Chinese authorities was the failure to intervene on a timely basis to nip the demonstrations in the bud, rather than — as would have been both wise and efficacious — to intervene with force when all other measures had failed to restore domestic tranquility to Beijing and other major urban centers in China. In this optic, the Politburo’s response to the mob scene at ‘Tian’anmen’ stands as a monument to overly cautious behavior on the part of the leadership, not as an example of rash action. . . .

“I do not believe it is acceptable for any country to allow the heart of its national capital to be occupied by dissidents intent on disrupting the normal functions of government, however appealing to foreigners their propaganda may be. Such folk, whether they represent a veterans’ ‘Bonus Army’ or a ’student uprising’ on behalf of ‘the goddess of democracy’ should expect to be displaced with despatch [sic] from the ground they occupy.”

The author of the article conclude:

This is the portrait of a mind so deep in the grip of realist ideology that it follows the premises straight through to their reductio ad absurdum. Maybe you suppose the National Intelligence Council job is so technocratic that Freeman’s rigid ideology won’t have any serious consequences. But think back to the neocon ideologues whom Bush appointed to such positions. That didn’t work out very well, did it?

Holy freakin’ cow. Doesn’t that scare the pure-t crap out of you? So, should we, the American people, take advantage of our rights guaranteed under the Constitution for assembly AND to stand up to our government should it stop acting in our interests, just WHAT would Freeman do to us? Sure makes you wonder, doesn’t it? All of these people staging new Tea Parties across the country better beware, especially if they have the audacity (!) to stage a protest in Washington, DC!

Mighty scary indeed. Thank heavens I have little puppies to look forward to today…How about you?

Talk about diversity of viewpoints… A person could get whiplash reading this site.

Diversity of viewpoints is the goal. Many of our problems come from those who are “locked” into a particular ideology or point of view.

I welcome opposing points of view and voice a few myself when I disagree with what I read.

early morning oh no, what next stories, ha ha, thanks RRRAmy. I look forward to your post of a picture of the puppies; hope Lucy isn’t paying too close attention to the news.

One is forthcoming – you’re going to see some major cuteness soon! :-)

Thanks, Andy – I appreciate that!

And Nocturnal is right, jbjd – the writers here have our own opinions. Thankfully, we do not all have to agree with one another, not even with Larry. We often do, but not always. That’s the beauty of NQ! :-)

Hi Rev. Any–hoping for a good day in my own little world, but the outside world makes less and less sense every day.

I am working on my taxes now. I document everything. 2008 is a big box full of stuff. I cannot even describe how I feel about people who don’t pay their taxes when those of us who really try to do the right thing get screwed.

Good luck with those pups!

Comment by trixta | 2009-03-02 13:39:22

Paying taxes? How about also paying the late penalties and interest? Why should they be exempt from the rules that apply to everyone else?!!

Hi again,

How are we to reconcile rev. Amy’s assessment of Freeman with Larry Johnson’s? Both make sense. I’m confused.

Well, I would suggest you read more; there is tons of info. about him. So you can find out on your own about him.
I did that and talk to some people I respect before any of these two posts and drew my own conclusions.

Read Marty Peretz at TNR. His articles are significative since he has been an Obama supporter from Day 1 and such support has carried its weight with the Jewish vote. He is no neocon… not even close; quite the opposite in fact.

And from
Durban II Was A Disaster Avoided

I have an instinct that the finale for Geneva was hastened by the Freeman disaster about which I wrote thrice yesterday. No one can explain what the president sees in him that would allow such a crude propagandist and bigot to be judge of what intelligence information the president sees and what he does not. The intelligence machinery of the country has been under suspicion for years because of ignorance or bureaucratic conflicts. Add now the fact that Freeman loves the Chinese dictatorship and that he is a shill for the king of Saudi Arabia. Oh yes, and he clearly despises friends of Israel, Jewish or not.

Good luck to Lucy!

How to reconcile the differing opinions is to digest the information and make up your own mind. I think opposing points of view are good. Echo chambers are for the cheetoh crowd.

What a YEAR so far!

WHAT A DECADE!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!

NOTHING HAS BEEN RIGHT SINCE 1999 – PERIOD!!

(well I guess this means I’ve lived long and hard enough to start distinguishing between the decades as opposed to the days and weeks)

sucks :-?

on top of things getting older: not fair !!

Maybe Y2K did change things and we all got zombied or something. There seems to be no rational explanation for what’s gone on these last 9 years. I sure hope I wake up soon and everything makes sense again.

good luck to Lucy and can’t wait to see the puppies!

Who are these people who don’t pay taxes? The same ones who spawned a generation of children who think it’s ok to be dishonest aka the Obot Kool Aid drinkers.

Comment by Andy | 2009-03-02 12:43:32

Congratulations on the newborn puppies RRR Amy!!! Hope Lucy is doing well.

Thank you for your post. I agree with you. Freeman’s comments on China and
also on the US after 9/11 (very similar to those of Wright actually; same “thinking”) are shameful and unforgivable.

Freeman: And what of America’s lack of introspection about September 11? Instead of asking what might have caused the attack, or questioning the propriety of the national response to it, there is an ugly mood of chauvinism. Before Americans call on others to examine themselves, we should examine ourselves.
Satloff: I find it difficult to accept that the people who were on the receiving end of the September 11 attacks should begin by focusing on what they did to deserve it.
Freeman: My point is that cause and effect work both ways. They exist in both directions, whatever the moral consequences might be.

http://www.washingtoninstitute.org/templateC07.php?CID=102

Add to that that on Israel and the Middle East he is an ideologue (no, he does not make “objective analysis for that would imply seeing and discussing both sides, not just criticizing -bashing really- Israel which is all he has ever done.

We have been outraged by the Bushes being in the Saudi pockets and here we have someone becoming chairman of NIC and in charge of the NIE who has been in the pockets of the Saudis as well; as in paid, supported and shilling for them.

Freeman: “I believe King Abdullah is very rapidly becoming Abdullah the Great.”

Freeman used his influence also to protect the bin Laden family with whom he had ties — after 9/11

Are we going to see puppy pics? I hope so

I don’t know what to think about Freeman. I have read some disturbing things about him and or his organization. It is really difficult to know what is true or not despite googling.

It sounds that Freeman might be in the cultural relativism crowd. Look out for women’s rights to be always taken in “cultural context” of stoning and beheading.

Amy, don’t want to take away from your day of joy because it really is a joyous thing to have puppies or kittens born, but with the population of cats and dogs in the US being put down at many thousands a day, why contribute to this overpopulation by not spaying your precious sweet dog? As owners we have to consider the present situation of animal overpopulation and suffering and do the right thing. Being someone who has watched many sweet lovable animals being put down for no reason other than there were too many of them for available homes, there was joy and sadness in news that you dog was having puppies. Please consider spaying her after this litter. Thanks for listening….and Congrats!

Comment by Strawberry | 2009-03-02 13:21:04

Her dog was a stray I believe. If I remember correctly, she showed up on her doorstep, already preggers. The little tart.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-03-02 13:24:09

Strawberry is correct – this was a stray a friend found at her job. Believe you me, I am all abt Spay/neutering – all of my other animals are, and Lucy will be once she is able. I have not had an animal that had babies since I was a child – and then my parents had to deal with the mama, I’m sure.

Anywho – yeah, this was one of those “No Good Deed Goes Unpunished” kinds of things – we had NO idea she was pregnant when we rescued her…

But thank you for the message – it is an important one!

You might want to read RRR Amy’s previous posts about this dog. I don’t believe you would be making this scolding remark had you read it; clearly Amy is aware of the plight of puppies and kittens and the responsibilities of owners. Just click the link on her name under the title and choose “See Author’s Posts”

Comment by Elizabeth | 2009-03-02 14:49:00

I had an already pregnant (fully starved, 6 mos old) rescue cat spayed when she showed up at my door, so it can be done — at least up to a certain point in the gestation process with felines. Although my options were more limited since I wasn’t at all sure the babies were alive when she underwent the operation, it has turned into an incredible blessing for both of us.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-03-02 15:36:17

Because the dog was so emaciated when she was found, our vet wanted to wait a month or two for her to put on some weight so she could tolerate the anesthesia better. NONE of us knew she was pregnant – we got her on 1/10, and the pups were just born last night/Mon. morning, so she wasn’t showing at all. We were counting the days to get her spayed until we realized that she was already pregnant…

If I could have gotten her spayed earlier, I certainly would have. I’m a long-term member of the ASPCA and Humane Society, have gotten feral cats spayed/neutered when I lived in VA (they were around the house), and the whole nine yards. I am a FIRM believer in spaying/neutering one’s pets. It just wasn’t possible this time around, but I guarantee that is one of questions on the list for the vet tomorrow – how long we have to wait to get Lucy spayed! (Even though we have 3/4 of an acre fenced in just for the dogs, I know that where there is a will, there’s a way, and sure don’t want this to happen again. The puppies are beyond adorable, but there are too many unwanted animals already, especially in this economy…

And CG – thank you for remembering my previous post on Lucy! How very touching!
