Clinton’s Trip to the Middle East and Puppy Update

Secretary of State Hilary Clinton is making her first trip to the Middle East in her new capacity. No doubt, this trip will garner a lot of interest since she is meeting with both Israel and Palestine. And I imagine there will be no small amount of walking on eggshells for the Secretary of State. Peace in the Middle East is something for which many have longed for many years. Hopefully, this trip will renew that commitment.

In the meantime, here are a few photographs of Secretary Clinton in Jerusalem:

Secretary Clinton lays a wreath in memory of the six million Jews killed during the Holocaust. This memorial took place at the Yad Vashem Memorial Hall of Remembrances.

Secretary Clinton signs the Guest Book.

Chairman of Yad Vashem Memorial Rabbi Israel Meir Lau and Secretary Clinton viewing “Wall Painting Under Duress” by Jewish artist Bruno Schultz who was shot afterward by the SS.

I have hope that if anyone can make headway in pursuit of peace in this region, Hillary Clinton can, and I pray she does.

And now, for the puppy update: the puppies and Lucy went to the vet today for their first visit. Everyone was healthy, according to the vet. And, all of the vet techs oohed and ahhed over them all. Several want to adopt puppies and another client there fell in love with one of the puppies. That’s what I want for these puppies - people who take good care of their animals, and use good veterinarians (my vet clinic is an AAHA - American Animal Hospital Association - clinic). Here are the puppies after their first big outing (their mom was outside for a moment):

Aren’t they just break-our-heart cute?? They weigh about one pound each right now. Still not sure who the baby daddy was, but hopefully NOT a St. Bernard as someone suggested! Everyone is doing well. Thank heavens.

SOS Clinton looks great. Now I need to go back and read the article, I was too busy trying to get to the puppy pictures.

Ohhhh they are beautiful. LOL i would love to take one off your hands in 8 weeks but we only do dachshunds. Plus we are still trying to get over the first night we bought home my three year old. he screamed all night long. And the teething, and the digging. But dogs are awesome. Only wish people were half as loyal.

Hey RRR Amy:

The puppies are adorable!! Congrats and glad to hear they are all doing well.

Thank you also for the pictures of Hillary; they are very moving to me.
I also pray she can move forward the peace process in the region.

I trie dto read what she wrote in the book (the picture is quite good quality so it’s easy to do so). This is what she wrote:

Yad Vashem is a testament to the power of truth in the face of denial, the resilience of the human spirit in the face of despair, the triumph of the Jewish people over murder and destruction and a reminder to all people that the lessons of the Holocaust must never be forgotten. God bless Israel and its future.

Isn’t that wonderful? What a woman; she is simply the best !!

Thank you for this post :-)

Thanks for posting that, Andy! She will be an amazing SOS.

Yes, THANK YOU, Andy! Very kind of you!

And what a wonderful sentiment Clinton wrote.

Such mixed emotions seeing her in these photos. I can’t help but think, “SHE should be the POTUS,” yet thankful that she is representing us.

Oh - and that feeling was even stronger after I saw Obama swagger up to the podium for the Sebilius announcement. Fortunately, I was able to change the channel - not quickly enough to see him act VERY cocky. Who knew we could get someone even WORSE than BUSH in that regard (and others)?

Anyway - thanks for indulging me over these puppies. Honestly, we saw markings on them today we hadn’t seen before (ee try to keep their area dimly lit, so I hadn’t even noticed that one of the black ones has brown cheeks until today). I do wish y’all could have seen the vet techs running to get cameras to take photos of the pups!! So cute!

And thank you for sharing my love of animals, too. I know I enjoy hearing abt your pets!

The puppies are adorable! I couldn’t resist making my doggy breath comment above. I love those warm little puppy bellies. I can’t wait until they open their eyes and start bouncing around.I’ve never owned a dog but I’ve got my two old kitty boys (Jack 15 yrs. and Maxwell 16 yrs.) with me. I’m not working now and they are my official Velcro cats. They can’t get enough of me and vice versa.

Such mixed emotions seeing her in these photos. I can’t help but think, “SHE should be the POTUS,” yet thankful that she is representing us.

Amy…everyday, everyday.

But life goes on…time to give Jack his morning meds.

She is wonderful.

Remember what Obama wrote in a prayer paper that went into the wall (and was subsequently revealed)?
Something to the effect of asking God for the humility (well, he does need that) to be a leader in the world.

With Hillary, it’s all about others, the people.

With B0, it’s always about him.

Blah!!

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-03-03 21:13:34

Excellent observation, Scout, and you are absolutely correct. It IS always abt him. Blah, indeed!

SOCALANNIE - I’m sure we could figure something out! Ever been to the Southeast before? :-)

Comment by Andy | 2009-03-04 13:08:17

Scout

With Hillary, it’s all about others, the people.

With B0, it’s always about him.

What a great observation and so true…

The “humility” part in his message left on the wailing wall was added b/c they knew it would be leaked to the
public. It is telling however that even then he already was thinking in terms of being the “leader of the world” and his own “greatness”

Almost any and everything Hillary says has a twist that you don’t hear from anyone else except, perhaps, for Bill who has the same gift. I’m sure we will continuously hear such gems as Andy has posted.

Another thing I’m noticing that is different is the first person Hillary seems to be greeting as she climbs down the steps of that enormous plane has consistently been an important woman waiting on the ground for her. I’m sure in many cases it is a woman in a high-level government position and in others looks like the wives of some of the important players. This is obviously a deliberate effort on the part of Hillary’s advance team. We’ve always seen Condelezza Rice or Madeline Allbright shaking hands first with the person she had gone to see who was always a male.

My favorite so far was Hillary’s visit to Japan and the day she went to the Imperial Residence of Empress Michiko and Emperor Akihito. The Empress was waiting out front for Hillary’s arrival. That was quite a warm scene since Hillary and the Empress had known each other since 1994. I love this touch - this new twist.

Just my own glasses…but if you click(double click?) on the picture it opens up larger in a new window and you can read it from there ;-)

The puppies are so precious! Love the different colorings. I wish I could get one, but don’t know how I’d get it across country.

Thanks for the Hillary update. She looks like she’s doing great.

Great pics of SOS HRC and the pups. I need prayers right now as my youngest kid - a female 16-month-old min pin is recovering from distemper. She has regained her verve back but she’s still got the twitching, which I pray will ease and disappear at some point. I’m giving her a mega-dose of vitamin B three times a day plus lots of love 24/7.

Comment by Judy L. NC | 2009-03-04 04:53:18

Happy to hear the pups are healthy.

I thought of you and Lucy when I heard a quote yesterday that I can’t remember right now. Maybe someone knows…something like ‘You might not be able to find the right dog, but a dog will always be able to find the right one for you.’ You are in the midst of a morality play about which you will be able to teach others after you discover all the people and homes that will be touched by your kindness to Lucy. Compare what’s happening at your house to what’s happening at the White House, dog-wise.

Another POV from ElectronicIntifada:

Did Clinton sabotage a Palestinian reconciliation?

By Hasan Abu Nimah and Ali Abunimah

The Electronic Intifada
4 March 2009

http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article10367.shtml

Still reeling from the Israeli massacres in the occupied Gaza Strip,
Palestinians have lately had little to celebrate. So the strong
start to intra-Palestinian reconciliation talks in Cairo last week
provided a glimmer of hope.

An end to the schism between the resistance and the elected but
internationally-boycotted Hamas government on the one hand, and the
Western-backed Fatah faction on the other, seemed within reach. But
the good feeling came to a sudden end after what looked like a
coordinated assault by United States Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton, European Union High Representative Javier Solana, and Fatah
leader Mahmoud Abbas whose term as president of the Palestinian
Authority (PA) expired on 9 January.

On Friday 27 February, the leaders of 13 Palestinian factions,
principal among them Hamas and Fatah, announced they had set out a
framework for reconciliation. In talks chaired by Egypt’s powerful
intelligence chief Omar Suleiman, the Palestinians established
committees to discuss forming a “national unity government,”
reforming the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to include all
factions, legislative and presidential elections, reorganizing
security forces on a nonpolitical basis, and a steering group
comprised of all faction leaders. Amid a jubilant mood, the talks
were adjourned until 10 March.

Then the blows began to strike the fragile Palestinian body politic.
The first came from Clinton just before she boarded her plane to
attend a summit in the Egyptian resort of Sharm al-Sheikh ostensibly
about pledging billions in aid to rebuild Gaza.

Clinton was asked by Voice of America (VOA) whether she was
encouraged by the Cairo unity talks. She responded that in any
reconciliation or “move toward a unified [Palestinian] Authority,”
Hamas must be bound by “the conditions that have been set forth by
the Quartet,” the self-appointed group comprising representatives of
the US, EU, UN and Russia. These conditions, Clinton stated, require
that Hamas “must renounce violence, recognize Israel, and abide by
previous commitments.” Otherwise, the secretary warned, “I don’t
think it will result in the kind of positive step forward either for
the Palestinian people or as a vehicle for a reinvigorated effort to
obtain peace that leads to a Palestinian state.”

Thank you RRRA-

It always does my heart good to see Hillary. She is a true statesmen.

Now about those puppies - They are way too cute. Makes me glad I’m not there to see them in person and hold them or I’d be putting my name on the list to adopt. They are sweet. It will be fun to see how they take shape and what lineage is revealed.

Comment by Sarah | 2009-03-04 15:29:48

Anyone care that Oblahma just signed a check to Hamas and the Palastinians for $900M?

At the risk of NOT being on the Hillary bandwagaon and getting my head bitten off, I think it is a grand show of hypocricy for her to lay a wreath for Holocaust victims in Jerusalem (!!!!!) then hand a check of tax-payer monies to the Palestinians.

And, no, of course, this was not covered in the MSM.

Obama’s Muslim roots are showing, IMHO.

BTW, the puppies are too cute! Thanks for sharing.

Comment by Regina | 2009-03-04 23:13:31

Sarah, I agree with you. Hillary talks from both sides of her mouth and unfortunately I have long since lost my respect for her. I was a Hillary supporter until she stopped fighting for me and others like me. She reminded me in the end that she is after all a politician. How could she support and represent the one person who ridiculed her at every move. He is a charlatan, a snake oil salesman, and an elmer gantry who’s actions remind me of the Peters principal (he is operating beyond his ability). He is an imposter who can’t complete a sentence unless he reads it off a teleprompter. She is promoting the policy of this imposter. The one great result of her failed candidacy is this post. Thank you larry and susan and all the other contributing voices who keep us informed. I deviate when it comes to your views on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
