Is This Obama’s Idea of Being a Commander? By Telling His Troops That We’re Losing? [Updates x2]

AnnieCollier’s update from the comments:Will someone deliver the news to MEchille that Burquas are not sleeveless?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Susan’s Update here: THIS IS UNCONSCIONABLE BEHAVIOR BY THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF. Way to rally the troops, Obama!

Talk about leading with your chin. Heck of a job, you loser. (This is NOT to say that we don’t all realize that things aren’t going well in Afghanistan and won’t ever go well when we’re dealing with people who live in the 4th century. BUT, BY GOD, a COMMANDER NEVER SAYS THIS OUT LOUD, TO HIS TROOPS as well as the American people!!!)

The right blogs have the correct reaction to the story:

MORE from Gateway Pundit, which caught the story from Astute Bloggers:

Gee, they only harbored the terrorists behind the 9-11 attacks. What could go wrong?

In a shocking move Barack Obama announced today that he was open to appeasing the anti-American Taliban fundamentalists. …

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

LisaB’s story: Look what the NYT has today.

President Obama declared in an interview that the United States was not winning the war in Afghanistan and opened the door to a reconciliation process in which the American military would reach out to moderate elements of the Taliban, much as it did with Sunni militias in Iraq.

The NYT had an interview with Obama aboard Air Force One and the article mentions the financial crisis, health care and Afghanistan. Apparently that was not enough, so after that interview, BO called reporters back.

After the interview, which took place as the president was flying home from Ohio, he called reporters from the Oval Office to assert that his actions have been “entirely consistent with free-market principles” and to point out that large-scale government intervention in the markets and expansion of social welfare programs began under President George W. Bush.
———–
The president spoke at length about the struggle with terrorism in Afghanistan and elsewhere, staking out positions that at times seemed more comparable to those of his predecessor than many of Mr. Obama’s more liberal supporters would like. He did not rule out the option of snatching terrorism suspects out of hostile countries.

Asked if the United States was winning in Afghanistan, a war he effectively adopted as his own last month by ordering an additional 17,000 troops sent there, Mr. Obama replied flatly, “No.”

And to those people who expected those celestial choirs and happiness?

Mr. Obama signaled that those on the left seeking a wholesale reversal of Mr. Bush’s detainee policy might be disappointed. Mr. Obama said that by the time he got into office, the Bush administration had taken “steps to correct certain policies and procedures after those first couple of years” after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Oh yeah, but since he won’t change things, he’ll just say the “other guy” made the necessary changes already. Oh, wait. Not the “other guy,” but the other guy’s minions.

When discussing the economy, BO has his own “go shopping” moment.

“What I don’t think people should do is suddenly stuff money in their mattresses and pull back completely from spending,” he said.

And, of course, in a total non sequitur, BO mentions . . . . . . blogs.

Mr. Obama rode to the White House partly on his savvy use of new technology, and he has a staff-written blog on his presidential Web site. Even so, he said he did not find blogs to be reliable, citing the economy as one example.

I guess BO doesn’t tweet and everything he says is COMPLETELY reliable.

Not.

If George Bush policies were so wrong. Why is President Obama still following them? He is the President now and can change everything Bush started. This recession is now Obamas. Bish tried bailing the banks out and it did not work. But Obama refuse to see it’s not working and is doiing the samething Bush did.

John McCain told us quite clearly what he would do differently on the economy. The media was too busy swooning over Obama to ask him serious questions.

SO stop blaming Bush. The market is responding to incomepetent Obama policies now!!!!!!!

Welcome to the OBAMARKET

We must have the most idiotic Commander in Chief in America’s history!!!!!

I am a veteran of Iraqi Freedom and although I didn’t and still don’t agree with the war there I NEVER said we would lose!!! Is he a moron???

This infuriates me!!! You never give heart to the opposing army. That only brings them hope and enthusiasm to continue killing our troops.

Obama is setting up our troops for more deaths now that he’s given moral support to our enemy the Taliban.

Comment by libby | 2009-03-07 16:45:31

Since when does our Commander in Chief state publicly that the enemy we are fighting is winning???

Obama is the most idiotic chimp we’ve had in the White House.

Who and what, pray tell, are the “moderate” elements of the Taliban????

Now, I can see why Churchill’s bust was sent back to the Brits. Obama, the Appeaser. I never agreed to the war in Iraq [thought we went after the wrong enemy]. But once we were there, rightly or wrongly, we had to try and finish it.

But if we’re now pretending we can reach out to maniacs, pretend everyone will play nice-nice, we’re on a very slippery slope. I bet the Afghani women are just thrilled with this notion. Because getting beat or shot by a “moderate” won’t hurt half as much.

Give me a break!

Good article, Lisa.

In a shocking move Barack Obama announced today that he was open to appeasing the anti-American Taliban fundamentalists.

Christ. The Taliban are the worst sort of thugs-on the order of Al Qaeda. I remember distinctly in June or July before 9/11 when the Taliban went after the Buddhist monoliths and destroyed a couple of them because they were “blasphemous” and not in keeping with fundamentalist Islam. I told my wife something was up because those had been there for centuries. But no organization and no country, including the US, looked truly into the matter any further–too busy, I suppose, finding new and ingenious ways to loot the treasury.

Oblockhead is one stupid man. You don’t appease these sorts of people–you contain them, re-educate them, or eliminate them.

He’s not stupid, he’s culturally Muslim with no allegiance to the US or our interests. The right wing blogs were predicting this last summer when they found out his call centers were in Gaza.

Obama flips off Hillary, gets away with it and now will appease the evil people who kill women for learning to read. Look for a large collection of women and girls from Afghanistan under Obama’s bus.

Ah, our president leader of what was once the free world. No wonder he never says the pledge of allegiance. That would be considered blasphemy against Islam.

We hosted Christians from Lahore who fled after their daughter’s boarding school was attacked by Islamists 9 years ago. The women teachers were tortured and then killed. The family lived w/ us for two years while the daughter finished college.

My views of Obama are influenced by this families view of Islamists. While Christian their family had intermarried for over 100 years. They see Obama clearly as a Muslim and are not at all surprised by his references to 57 states (OIC not USA) nor his attitudes towards women. He, to them, is a classic Muslim man. Perhaps liberal for his culture but anti-West, anti-woman and most definitely anti-US.

The family is very gracious, very polite. I was shocked to hear such antipathy toward Obama. They think he is part of a larger Muslim conspiracy to destroy the US. They are not uneducated folks either. The daughter is finishing her PhD in Public Health, the father has a PhD in Ed Pysch from the University of Kansas and the mother has a Masters in English Lit for UCSF.

The war against the Taliban, like it not is a war mostly about oil. In appeasing the Taliban, Obama jeopardizes the security and stability of the oil supplies coming from the Arab states. Ultimately costing the U.S. the destabilization and undermining of the entire U.S. economy. That is concomitant with the present destabilization of the financial markets and the GNP. It follows perfectly with a schedule of deconstructing the successes of the White race in order to economical achieve the leveling of blacks and whites and creating a quasi-African socialist democracy.

“UK ex-commander says Afghanistan mission ‘worthless’” so why is the US sending more troops? UK ex-commander says Afghanistan mission “worthless”

Ex-SAS commander Maj. Sebastian Morley, who resigned last year in protest at the handling of the conflict, said operations were being undermined by a lack of troops and resources.

“I don’t think we have even scratched the surface as far as the conflict goes,” he told the Daily Telegraph in an interview published on Saturday, his first since stepping down.

“I think the level of casualties and attrition is only set to rise. This is the equivalent to the start of the Vietnam conflict, there is much more to come,” he said.

“We hold tiny areas of ground in Helmand and we are kidding ourselves if we think our influence goes beyond 500 metres of our security bases,” Morley said.

* * * * * * * * * * * *

“I had to resign. I had warned (the MoD) time and time again that there were going to be needless deaths if we were not given the right equipment, and they ignored this advice. There is blood on their hands,” he said.

“Change” the favorite word of Saul Alinsky in “Rules for Radicals: A Pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals” became the loaded, and thinly veiled mantra of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. What Obama meant by “change” went unspoken, but is clearly understood in the context of Obama’s training in the principles of Saul Alinsky, and on the pages of “Rules for Radicals.”

Change means dividing America into Haves, and Have-Nots, and setting them against each other. “The organizer must rub raw the resentments of the people of the community,” which Obama and his close associates including ACORN have accomplished widely. Have-Nots can never become Haves, without change — which also means revolution, according to Alinsky.

The Have-Nots must be taught to “hate the establishment of the Haves.”

In Alinsky revolution, every crisis is an opportunity; creating and intensifying crisis is the modus operandi.

In this school of Alinsky Obama matriculated, distinguished himself, and became the elite professor. Make no mistake; Obama’s true profession is the revolution of change as defined by Alinsky which is class warfare in the streets of Chicago and now the United States; a polar opposite of constitutional law, and any legitimate function of government.

“Every crisis is an opportunity” — Obama’s in over his head and what does he do, fall back on Alinsky’s rules.

Obama on Saturday challenged his country to see its hard times as a chance to “discover great opportunity in the midst of great crisis.”

“That is what we can do and must do today. And I am absolutely confident that is what we will do,” Obama said in his weekly radio and video address, taped a day earlier at the White House.

“Yes, this is a moment of challenge for our country,” Obama said. “But we’ve experienced great trials before. And with every test, each generation has found the capacity to not only endure, but to prosper — to discover great opportunity in the midst of great crisis.”

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president’s surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

Since he’s rarely at his desk, I can see how his “In Box” could pile up. Apparently, not satisfied with less than adoring crowds during his economic spin though the Mid-West, he and MEchille are soon off to Europe.

Party on, Bama. Europe as a candidate was a shoo in comparatively…especially without MEchille. No state dinners, no real protocol to observe. OK, BO. Got the diagram of which fork to use? I read in an earlier link that his inner circle is becoming very concerned because he has no interest in foreign policy. That he hasn’t read any of the reports, documents, nothing. He’s just shooting off emails to world leaders. That Russia won’t be the only gaffe because he apparently thinks it’s better to just wing it. I hope this isn’t true, but from what I’ve seen so far it wouldn’t surprise me if it is.

And yet another WORM

I think we still have to think about how do we deal with that kind of scenario,” he added. The president went on to say that “we don’t torture” and that “we ultimately provide anybody that we’re detaining an opportunity through habeas corpus to answer to charges.”

Aides later said Mr. Obama did not mean to suggest that everybody held by American forces would be granted habeas corpus or the right to challenge their detention. In a court filing last month, the Obama administration agreed with the Bush administration position that 600 prisoners in a cavernous prison on the American air base at Bagram in Afghanistan have no right to seek their release in court.

Instead, aides said Mr. Obama’s comment referred only to a Supreme Court decision last year finding that prisoners held at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, have the right to go to federal court to challenge their continued detention.

Maybe he should stay off of the blogs and sit down with Michelle and learn the appropriate protocol for state visits.

The deal did not work then and in reaction Karzi, a former Unical exec, was put in charge.
