Here’s What I, an Army Sergeant, Think of Obama’s Statement on Afghanistan:

Soldier4Hillary has a few words after reading that Obama, in an interview with the NYT (NQ article here), says the US is losing the war in Afghanistan.
The thing is, Obama just got finished telling Marines they are going into Afghanistan. Just imagine, your President comes to *rally* the troops one week, and then turns around and says the mission is a failure before the troops even leave home.
So where the hell would anyone find any motivation for a mission when the president has basically stated, “you’re going; we already lost; and oh, there won’t be any money anyway. Cheers!”
The Canadian Prime minister summed it up about a week ago when he asked, how can you ask other countries for help when you haven’t outlined a strategy? I take it one step further and ask, “how can you call Afghanistan a failure when you spent almost two years saying that is where we need to be – and then just turn around and say it’s lost and we need to now reach out to the Taliban?”
It’s crazy. People are pulling their hair out over this because Obama inspires not one lick of motivation for the mission. The only mission now is that we will be *reaching* out to the Taliban and I don’t even know what that means. It’s a total contradiction.
Obama says one thing at Camp Lejeune and then something else later on. I have friends at Lejeune since it is not too far from Fort Bragg (my duty station), and some of the pictures taken from the event look as if those Marines are literally at a funeral. You can’t go and say a mission is a failure when you are about to send 17,000 more troops.
I don’t know what the hell they are thinking about up there at the Pentagon. Despite how people felt about Bush, I could never imagine him saying Iraq was a lost cause and, oh by the way, we are sending in 17,000 more people in a couple months. The DINO’s are sucking the life, the literal life, out of their own damn military. Come on!
If you are going to cut defense spending, say the mission is a failure and then commit MORE of us into Afghanistan, what does that say to those who simply salute and say “Sir! Yes Sir!” A good military commander would never tell his soldiers a mission they are going on is lost but we’re going anyway.
Another question is why the hell are all the retired Generals, people experienced in intel/security and, hell, even the ones at the Pentagon letting this narrative play out? Those of us in the field joke that someone has these people all locked up or held hostage somewhere in a soundproof room on some island. But now it’s not funny at all, because I honestly don’t understand. I don’t get it. I know Obama has advisers.
Gen Jones (Obama’s NSC) came out before Secretary of State Clinton left for her first trip and stated that there were going to be big changes. State and Defense would be working together with all of this new NSA type stuff and people were hyped. My brother even got to see SOS Clinton when she made a refueling stop at a hanger where they also had a military event with families. Clinton talked about the same things. Now, it’s like everything just stopped.
I will give a prime example - the speech from Camp Lejeune. Obama spent the first 14 or so minutes talking to Marines about Iraq and then Obama directly addressed the people of Iraq and gave an outstanding speech on how wonderful they are and their country is, etc etc. … All good. He didn’t talk about Afghanistan and for sure didn’t talk about sending Marines to a war we are losing. He does that to the NYT.
All I can say is if this is an example of motivating us for a mission it came up short.

Great Post Soldier/Patsy! There is no leadership there. At least they’ll get to see the teleprompter up close.
It’s even getting difficult to reread the novels I love (e.g. “The Corps”) without getting re-appalled about what passes for a Commander-in-Chief. There truly is no there there…every week, a different aberration, a new insult, a new WORM. And the country keeps its downward spiral, the incompetencies mount up.
I ran into a relative a week or so ago, who’s a brilliant man, really smart/good at his job. He said he is still “thunderstruck” at the ‘articulateness and intelligence” of this President “who even writes his own speeches”. Good God, the O can hardly READ them without his main squeeze.
Tell him to go back to school and take philosophical logic class. Its not the math logic, its the one the philosophy department teaches. I think its the same one that lawyers are required to take.
This is the only class that will break a persons inability to seek out logical statements. Obama is the king of fallacy. I’ve never seen a politican give so many fallacious statements in my life.
I hear alot of people talk about smart people liking Obama. I think people are confused about the term “smart”. Just because you go to college and graduate doesn’t mean you are “intellegent”. It just means you are dedicated and can retain information. These are excellent traits to have, don’t get me wrong.
Science majors seem to have more of a capacity for intellegent discourse. They teach you how to set up proper arguments through logical discourse.
We don’t know that Obummer is even capable of retaining information. We haven’t seen his school records. For all we know, he schmoozed his way through school. He claims to be intelligent, but so far there is no empirical evidence of it. And no school records to back it up with either. So why anyone assumes this bozo has a brain is a mystery to me. He certainly doesn’t behave or speak on his own as if he had two brain cells to rub together.

People mistake “cerebral” for “smart.”
Obama is always inside his own head meaning he’s not present. It appears he’s thinking all the time. This could very well be true, but he could be thinking about himself, about his Greek columns, etc. He’s not necessarily thinking intelligent thoughts or thinking about policy.
I’ll second that. Book smarts and common sense,Two very different things. Given a choice, common sense wins every time.
I am too well educated some say and I teach in higher ed, tho I make no claims for genius at all, I am very smart in at least one way– I never voted for Skippy Bush and I have never will never, ever, under any circumstances vote for or support Barky Obama. (Not a “science” major but I do love science and have one A.A. degree in computer science).

1. He doesn’t write them and
2. They represent words strung together to sound good while being bereft of any real meaning at the same time. This enables him to come back later and revise, re-revise, and finally deny that he ever said what he said. You can generally catch this when he uses the term “notion”.
Using the word “notion” is like a lawyer using the word “alleged” — you can say anything that is patently untrue as long as these words precede it.
& Pres 0 does this constantly — that’s ONE thing he’s learned in law school — as far as anything else I would lean to the side that he just skid by w/o doing the work

It was on the radio, so I couldn’t see the troops, but when he said troops would be leaving Iraq, he paused. I’m sure he thpought there would be applause. There wasn’t, so he starting speaking again. When he opened his mouth, you could hear one person started applauding and a few lack-luster claps joined in. You’re right, even Bush would have done a better job. Bless you!

I said this on another post when Larry brought up Obama wanting to talk to moderate Taliban members (which is an oxymoron).
What I was most upset about was that Obama, as CIC, was openly declaring the Afghanistan War a failure (which it is not) and thereby negating the efforts and sacrifice of all the soldiers who have fought and even died there.
Obama is a charleton and clearly the most inexperienced and incompetent person ever to hold the office of POTUS.
He used something David Patraeus said about reaching out to the Shia and Sunni in Iraq who were fed up with Al Qaeda – and he tried to compare it to the Taliban, but there is no comparison. The Taliban is Al Qaeda and vice versa. They are a militant radical group who were directly responsible for 9/11.
Obama has no understanding of or confidence in our military which is why he is using a white flag in his foreign policy.
And Patsy thank you for service and your courage.

This is what slays me. The anti-war people, some that didn’t even want troops in Afghanistan, are now all for the troop increase and leaving troops at bases in Iraq.
These same folks wanted all of the bases closed or turned over to Iraqis so that all of our troops could come home.

thanks so much for your perspective on this most recent and egregious blunder by our “Fearful Leader”. The Boston Globe described his visit to the troops as another adoration rally where BO was greeted with cheers and delight. I wondered as I read their skewed view just what your take on this would be.
I knew The Globe was incapable of any BO criticism, so nowadays I read it with eyes rolling, but their efforts to make That One seem loved by our troops made my eyes roll back in my head as I gagged on the lies. Thank goodness I can come here to get at the truth.
I hope The Globe soon follows The Rocky Mountain News into oblivion. The RMN was a good paperthat didn’t deserve to fold. The Globe isn’t even good for catching my parrot’s “opinion”.

But it’s up to Obamaram to CLEARLY STATE his STRATEGY–whatever the hell it is. And doing so, respecting you for being willing to give up your lives for the cause. But I don’t think Obamarama is willing to commit the money to the war now. Patsy thank you for the great post and thank you for your service to this country. I believe the troops for the most part were already smart enough to know what was going to happen if Obama won.
What you all need to remember is there are MANY Americans that still believe in, and stand behind you. There is no such thing as a failed mission, if even one thing changes for the better.
There have been many changes in Iraq, enough that you all should hold your heads high and proud. Women can vote! Girls can go to school and even college. Those are two great accomplishments. There will be no more mass burials. Children orphaned from the military then chained to the wall and fed their food like an animal.
It takes time for real change to take effect. You(all our soldiers), the Iraqi people have made some great accomplishments.
In reality the Taliban are going to be the real loosers they are trying desperately to hold onto what control they had on the people, but the people grow weary. They want change. They want to live freely without fear. There were terrorists in World War 2 and every war since. It was the people that said enough. I believe that is exactly what is going to happen across the Middle East, as women find their voices. As children become more educated. You can’t give people a taste of something new, of freedom, then expect them to go back to business as usual. We can see it happening right now. It may still be just a whisper, but it will grow into a roar.
Patsy — I couldn’t agree with you more. Obama’s flip flops must be giving our soldiers constant vertigo. I’m just in total awe as to how you and our other soldiers take it. I just met another Iraqi veteran who successfully overcame severe PTSD (he was there before the ice cream, video games, and hot showers got there — even went for three months without a shower because they hadn’t been built yet in Fallujah)
everytime I hear about this drawdown, or whatever its called now, I both laugh and cry. The laughter is for those Obots who thought Obama was seriously ending war, when in reality Obama always said he was shifting it to Afghanistan and Pakistan. The need for crying is pretty obvious. & now Obama has alienated our most imp ally, England, with his slaps in the face to Brown and his family to the point the Brits are royally pissed; they want out of the ME NOW. & simultaneously he got a big FU from Russia when he tried to engage them in help for Iran with “a letter”…

Several posters have mentioned how confusing BHOs message is to the troops concerning the sending of troops and the withdrawing of troops. I also saw the video of BHO at LeJeune (where my husband was stationed several times during his 29 yr career)The troops did not give him the welcome, or approval of his speech he so expected. However, MSNBC gave a completely different account of the day. In the video it was clearly evident that the troops were quite cool toward him. How the media can sleep at night and look themselves in the mirror in the morning is beyond comprehension. They and foreign money bought the election and we can’t return the product for 4 years!
