Tea Party chain letter rebellion

I just received the following message in an email chain letter, author unknown. Has anyone else received it, or know where it originates?

QUOTE
There’s a storm abrewin’. What happens when good, responsible people keep quiet? Washington has forgotten they work for us. We don’t work for them. Throwing good money after bad is NOT the answer. I am sick of the midnight, closed door sessions to come up with a plan. I am sick of Congress raking CEO’s over the coals while they, themselves, have defaulted on their taxes. I am sick of the bailed out companies having lavish vacations and retreats on my dollar. I am sick of being told it is MY responsibility to rescue people that, knowingly, bought more house or car than they could afford. I am sick of being made to feel it is my patriotic duty to pay MORE taxes. I, like all of you, am a responsible citizen. I pay my taxes. I live on a budget and I don’t ask someone else to carry the burden for poor decisions I may make. I have emailed my congressmen and senators asking them to NOT vote for the stimulus package as it was written without reading it first. No one listened. They voted for it, pork and all.

O.K. folks, here it is. You may think you are just one voice and what you think won’t make a difference. Well, yes it will and YES, WE CAN!! If you are disgusted and angry with the way Washington is handling our taxes. If you are fearful of the fallout from the reckless spending of BILLIONS to bailout and “stimulate” without accountability and responsibility then we need to become ONE, LOUD VOICE THAT CAN BE HEARD FROM EVERY CITY, TOWN, SUBURB AND HOME IN AMERICA. There is a growing protest to demand that Congress, the President and his cabinet LISTEN to us, the American Citizens. What is being done in Washington is NOT the way to handle the economic free fall.

So, here’s the plan. On April 1, 2009, all Americans are asked to send a TEABAG to Washington , D.C. You do not have to enclose a note or any other information unless you so desire. Just a TEABAG. Many cities are organizing protests. If you simply search, “New American Tea Party”, several sites will come up. If you aren’t the ‘protester’ type, simply make your one voice heard with a TEABAG. Your one voice will become a roar when joined with millions of others that feel the same way. Yes, something needs to be done but the lack of confidence as shown by the steady decline in the stock market speaks volumes.

This was not my idea. I visited the sites of the “New American Tea Party” and an online survey showed over 90% of thousands said they would send the teabag on April 1. Why, April 1?? We want them to reach Washington by April 15. Will you do it? I will.
Send it to; The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington , D.C. 20500 ..

Visit the website below for more information about the ‘New American Tea Party’. I would encourage everyone to go ahead and get the envelope ready to mail, then just drop it in the mail April 1. Can’t guarantee what the postage will be by then, it is going up as we speak, but have your envelope ready. What will this cost you? A little time and a 40 something cent stamp.

What could you receive in benefits? Maybe, just maybe, our elected officials will start to listen to the people. Take out the Pork. Tell us how the money is being spent. We want TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY. Remember, the money will be spent over the next 4-5 years. It is not too late.

Of course, if you agree with the way things are being done now, just delete!!!!!

UNQUOTE

Instead of deleting, I thought I would post it here on NQ. Was I wrong?

April 1 – April Fool’s Day

hadn’t heard of this. I don’t get it. Why send these to the WH? Why not some group on the mall where you can at least get press coverage? Won’t the WH just not tell anyone about any bags they get? And, given the security issues, I seriously doubt any mail sent to the WH ever gets out of some unnamed warehouse.

Comment by fsteele | 2009-03-09 16:33:36

Exactly! All these “send shoes etc to DNC, media executives, etc” projects have the same fault. The people you are sending to will just suppress the whole thing. There will be a special trash can at the Post Office, the targets will never see the stuff.

The tea bags aren’t a bad idea, no special packaging needed…. But send them to someone who will REPORT it, like Greta. Or maybe Leno / Letterman. Or Limbaugh, who would photo the pile.

Not that I’m necessarily agreeing with the message. Sounds too right-wing for me.

Get somebody to donate a store front and fill up the windows with the envelopes. Tell people to mark their envelopes “TEA PARTY.” Have a refreshment bar set up inside for the press.

You must not know your history! The Boston Tea Party was about the British excessively taxing the colonists. It was the begining of liberation from tyranny!!! YES…I think this is great! An American Tea Party…for the same blasted reason…excessive taxation for WASTE….This is easy…and if millions of tea bags end up at the White House…I assure you the news will cover it big time.

Comment by Lisa Ray | 2009-03-20 10:35:17

Postal offices being overwhelmed and calling in hazmat crews will likely make the news…..

I do not know who wrote it, but wish I had! I was just going to contact No quarter and ask them to post about the tea parties and where to sign up. I will definitely send a tea bag to the White House! I have also signed up at taxdayteaparty.com and reteaparty.com because I want to join the masses on tax day and Independence day. We need to scare the begeezus out of our Government to remind them that they work for us, not the other way around! It’s damn time we cut their pay and lay some of them off!!!!

Let’s go Real Americans!

Comment by SJ | 2009-03-09 16:14:57

I am happy you posted this I was interested in finding out more about all these tea parties that have been going on, yet the media has nothing on it seems they are not interested in covering these events or finding out what is really going on with this.

Thanks for posting.

I’d suggest both pajamasmedia.com and instapundit.com for coverage of the tea parties … from the MSM, you get crickets …

Pajamas Media, and several others have the send tea bags to Washington Day. I’m waiting for the Tea Party in San Diego. You can get a list of upcoming tea parties or how to start your own on Pajamas Media. Here’s the link.

Thank you Grumpy, that means I missed that one also. I thought it was coming in March. I’ll find one to go to. Maybe someone will host one out here in the Riverside County area. Or heck maybe I could host one if I could find someone to do the public speaking. One thing I don’t do. People constantly walk behind me, what did you say? I couldn’t hear you. Even my own family. Which usually leads to me saying nothing, it obviously wasn’t important. My husband says that’s why he can’t take me out in public, people will tell me their whole life history standing in line to check out because they know I’ll just listen. That protest would get nowhere.

Did anyone attend the one in Fullerton? There were estimates of between 8 to 15,000. I’d love to see some bigger pictures of it, all I’ve found are some smaller ones and I didn’t hear about it till the day before or I’d have gone to it.

If you search youtube for “tea party,” there are lots of videos of tea parties in different cities from feb.

I’m uneasy about the April 1 date. They say it ensures it will get there by the 15th but the mail doesn’t take 2 weeks.

Seems like April Fools to me too.

Comment by Diana | 2009-03-09 16:40:43

I’m aiming for the 10th to send out my tea bag and I am sending one of the big ones from Lipton. Then watch as I get angry when they show them making a pitcher of ice tea with my tea bag.;)

Comment by TexasBuckeye | 2009-03-09 23:10:04

The reason for the two weeks is that all mail such as this will be screened for anthrax. It will take about 14 days from when you send it until it is screened and finally delivered.

Comment by SFHillary | 2009-03-09 16:25:16

Pajamas Media? Seriously? So you guys are blatantly now doing the bidding of the leading rightwing, pro-corporate, anti-working-family blogger network on the entire internet?

Man, NQ sure has come a long way since the days when this site was supposedly pro-Hillary.

Comment by Pennsylvania Red | 2009-03-09 16:31:00

That dog don’t hunt.

Taxpayer revolt sentiment is coming from all shades of the political spectrum.

You will find as The Won’s administration wears on, the lines will blur between left and right opposition to him.

You are sounding very retro today.

Comment by SFHillary | 2009-03-09 16:49:48

And you’re sounding like someone who isn’t aware that Obama’s approval ratings are higher than they’ve ever been. lol

Comment by adagioforstrings | 2009-03-09 16:56:45

No, Obama’s ratings have tanked along with the stock market:

Thirty-two percent (32%) now Strongly Disapprove of the President’s performance, the highest level of disapproval measured to date

Comment by SFHillary | 2009-03-09 17:25:16

Spare me. I’ll take Gallup, as always:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Job-Approval.aspx

Huge approval gap, hasn’t changed, you’re dreaming if you think the public is turning against him.

Comment by andrew191 | 2009-03-09 17:52:41

Well SF, the antidote for the Obama kool-aid may just be mass poverty, high unemployment, lost savings, hyperinflation, rising threats from lowering defences, and general misery spread liberally all around. It takes time for the antidote to create enough antibodies (or antiobamas) before the patient snaps out of the hopey/changey induced catatonic state. Unfortunately, there is always a certain percentage of patients where the desease is so recalcitrant (You SF) that the cure is ineffective, and they’re simply goners.

Comment by Hillary or Bust | 2009-03-09 19:29:14

Actually, based on BOTH those polls, Obama’s disapproval rating has increased and his approval rating has dropped so the gap is narrowing.

Never mind that people who respond to a vague “approve” are more likely to be soft approvers whereas those who respond “disapprove” are more likely to be entrenched in their dislike.

This is one reason why I think Rasmussen is a bit more telling than Gallup’s ridiculous dualistic system.

Comment by beebop | 2009-03-09 20:50:57

Ahhhhh there it is …

The only proof we need that his approval is tanking is the rising number of butt suckers here to wave their pom poms. You gotta love it. We learned how polls can be manipulated by over sampling during the selection process. Now run along. Don’t insult anyone here.

Comment by Ani | 2009-03-09 23:27:01

Why are you so happy about polls — do you care more about polls than what is going on in your own 401K?

Furthermore, I am finding a lot of Obama supporters very silent suddenly (in my area, for example) — in fact, quite a few are starting to complain about him. These are older voters with something to lose, having been in the work force for a long time — I wonder if they are showing up in your polling data?

And I’m sure you know just how truthful people are with pollsters — to wit, how many love to admit a mistake — especially this soon.

Comment by andrew191 | 2009-03-10 02:28:44

Nobody likes to admit a mistake Ani, that’s human nature. I firmly believe that many more people are regretting their choice than people think, but they will not let on just yet. In two months, many who supported him will be screaming for his head on a pike. In two months, after taxes, everyone will realize that they had been lied to. Displeasure gets weighty when wallets get light.

sf..
You live by polls alone…I live by business alone.

Obama is Bad for Business

The word is out..The markets are spooked
Obama has played his hand and is not a centrist as we predicted.
Your revolution is over..DOA

Comment by Doc99 | 2009-03-09 17:21:00

I’d say the behavior of the Dow since Hopey One’s inauguration speaks louder than any tracking poll. The market is shorting Obama.

Comment by SFHillary | 2009-03-09 17:58:56

Just like the market crashed after Reagan took office in 1981?

You guys are so lame. Whatever Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the Republican noise machine says, sure enough, it appears here the next day. So now, of course, you’re all mindlessly parroting the Limbaugh line about how the markets all hate Obama, which I’ve been hearing from my Republican friends for days now. I can’t wait to see what you’ll all have to say when the markets turn back up. The one thing I know for sure is that in your warped little echo chamber, it is Obama’s fault when the markets crash (as opposed to, oh, say, horrific macroeconomic data), but it won’t be a vote in his favor when the markets return.

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2009-03-09 18:04:15

sf,
Everybody here knows that I gave Obama a chance.
However,Obama disgusts me with his class warfare rhetoric which has more than contributed to the lack of confidence by those that are the producers and performers in this economy.

My question to you

Who is John Galt?

Comment by Docelder | 2009-03-09 18:17:36

won’t be a vote in his favor when the markets return

Provided they do return. The markets are businesses… nobody gets that anymore. What if nobody believes in the viability of business in a post-Obama America? What then?

Comment by andrew191 | 2009-03-09 18:19:43

Who’s parroting? We’re not parrot heads, that’s Jimmy Buffet, not Warren Buffet.

Comment by Ferd Berfle | 2009-03-09 18:31:40

Comment by Hillary or Bust | 2009-03-09 19:33:35

SFHillary – I’m not sure the point of responding to you, but the markets did NOT crash this much after Reagan’s election.

Obama sucks, much worse than I imagined. I never thought I’d say this, but come 2010 I’m voting for EVERY Republican up for Congress so Obama won’t have blanket approval for his ridiculous overspending.

God help us until then…I’m not sure if we’ll still have a country in 2010.

Comment by SFHillary | 2009-03-09 18:03:39

A special note for you, Seattle, my old friend:

Do you actually believe this? Do you actually believe that Obama’s bailout and recovery plans, which extend from the banks to the insurance industry to stabilizing real estate to radically overhauling the way we pay for health care, are “bad for business?” Do you therefore think that there might have been a better way to prevent the economy from spiraling into a decade-long depression?

Warren Buffett doesn’t, he’s entirely supportive:

http://www.newsweek.com/id/187141

But hey, I’m sure you and Rush and Rick Santelli know better.

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2009-03-09 18:11:14

sf,
When you have an economy that is falling like a dagger you don’t try to reinvent the economy you try saving the existing economy. Obama has total disdain for the existing economy and seems hell bent to have his social engineering on the backs of wealth and job creators.
There is no industry that is safe from this re-engineering.
Obama blew it by foolishly talking capital gain increases, carbon tax increases and massive spending on health care that has tanked everything.

Obama could have held off his social programs
He didn’t and as a result the world is in full panic mode.

Comment by Hillary or Bust | 2009-03-09 19:35:40

I really do suspect that Obama is co-opting the bleeding heart left just for the sole purpose of destroying America for the New World Order.

It’d be just like the naive left to not get basic economics, get all excited over the spending, and the next thing you know…World Bank Here We Come!

Comment by Ferd Berfle | 2009-03-09 19:59:40

I agree with your assessment. I don’t think That One is a liberal or even a centrist. His owners appear to be those who want this new world order, heaven help us all.

Comment by fsteele | 2009-03-10 02:41:30

Hm? Millions to bail out the US auto makers to go right on making polluting unsaleable cars … that’s way too much like saving the existing economy than re-inventing it.

Down with Umbumble! But let’s be reasonable.

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2009-03-09 18:17:55

sf,
You will be very proud of me to know that I wrote a thread on the Obama collapse and how class warfare can lead to a self fulfilling prophesy and destroy wealth.
We have been talking for almost a year and you know that I made this point long ago before the Cramer’s of the world jumped aboard.

Which part of “this isn’t the time” are you failing to comprehend, unlearned one. You don’t perform cosmetic surgery on a patient who has a scar on their face when they’re on life support from an arterial wound to their neck, you silly bot. Fix the artery, allow them to recuperate and then do the cosmetic stuff.

What an utterly silly response. How does this post or anything anyone has said live up to your claim of NQ going right wing? If that is your interpretation of it then you would probably be happier going with the Huffington Post, where such ridiculously twisted views of the facts are commonplace. These protests cut across party lines and are against a bill passed by people who were not given the time to read it.

Comment by Docelder | 2009-03-09 17:20:20

Comment by C.S. | 2009-03-09 16:37:03

It is no April Fools joke. These parties have been happening throughout the U. S. for several weeks now and the “big ones” are scheduled for April 15 and April 25 and it seems they are getting organized into one big rally – which is what we need to convince our government representatives that united we stand and that we aren’t going to allow them to walk all over us like they did to put Soertoro/Obama in the driver’s seat by stealing caucus votes and delegates from other candidates.

And nothing will change in our democracy until we stop waiting for someone to do it for us. Mr. Soertoro/Obama is a prime example of what you get when you leave the “vetting” to those with dollar sign eyes. And this time you don’t even have to wear an “Indian” disguise, you can come as you are.

This site is so schizophrenic. A front page post about a taxpayer revolt tea party to rail against pork and the spending of federal tax dollars on the same day that there is a front page post touting Krugman as saying we are not spending enough. And both get equal cheers.

Comment by FLDemFem | 2009-03-10 12:02:11

It’s not how much is spent, but how it is spent that matters. The money is going to the wrong places and people to help the economy. Obummer is paying back his corporate backers at the expense of the American people.

Comment by betty | 2009-03-09 16:49:43

I was excited til I read “send a tea bag to congress”. Been there done that – rubber stamp remember – what were the other wonderful things we sent beside besieging their offices with phone calls faxes and emails?

You can call and email, fax and mail trinkets to those people till your heart breaks and they just ignore you. You may think your vote gave them the job as congress person or senator but they know it was rahm emanual, nancy p, obama and reid who got them elected. They just have to step out of the conga line long enough to come home and appear humble and hard working then right back to the conga line they go.

Instead of sending them a tea bag why don’t we meet them at the air port and make them stand there til they answer every questions and demonstrate that they know who they work for and what we want (as opposed to what nancy p et.el. want).

Comment by turndownobama | 2009-03-09 17:30:23

Christ, Grumpy, it sounds like you’re trying to decide whether you’re being punked or not. At this level of wingnuttiness, it’s simply indistinguishable, so relax, you’re way crazy, and in good company.

I’ve never laughed so hard in my life. The level of discourse at this blog is thus defined.
