The Second American Revolution

Thomas Paine himself rises from his grave to warn us and to implore us to use “Common Sense”:

What wonderful acting. Surely he has done stage and/or film work.

I don’t agree with it all. Since I’m a Hillary Democrat. But I appreciate many of his sentiments and views.

We do need common sense though. YES to English as our official language. I guess we need the second option for Spanish-speaking citizens, but they need to learn English. However, I remember my grandmother who came to the U.S. as a young girl from Switzerland and only learned about 50 words of English her entire long life. She spoke Swiss German with all of her relatives, and she wasn’t exposed to enough “regular” Americans. Perhaps it was difficult for her since she lived in an extremely rural area and not in a city where she’d be exposed constantly to English. But, of course, there’s no third option for Swiss German or any other language, is there. Actually, if we were to have a second option, it should be for the second most common language on earth, which is French. French Canadians would adore that, wouldn’t they.

Well, I’ve blathered on long enough. You blather now!

Here in SoCal, they always advertise for bilingual employees. Although there are so many nationalities here, “bilingual” always means English-Spanish. They don’t even bother saying that, though – bilingual has just become synonymous with Spanish. And unlike any other immigrants in our history, spanish speakers don’t have to (or often even want to) learn English.

I can’t even imagine going to another country, especially illegally, and expecting everyone to learn MY language, and to provide me with all kinds of benefits. It would never happen. And I’d never have that arrogance to expect/demand it to.

Comment by Diana | 2009-03-21 02:17:40

My son went on three interviews this past week and every one of them told him they couldn’t hire him because he has to be able to speak some Spanish. He said how much is some? He said only one guy was honest and told him enough that if he was stuck in a place that only spoke Spanish he could get around. That was Ross’s distibution center. I told him he may have to take his family and think about moving out of CA. He has four children to support, and hasn’t been able to find a job.

I have lived in CA for over 30 years. I can only tell you that the quality of life here has been completely destroyed over time by the illegals and Mexicans who have zero respect for this country and have come here for the free ride. I came here in 1978 and it was an amazing state. It’s a TOILET now and I will probably leave the country for good in the next few months. How sad.

I lived in LA from 1995-2002. I never planned to return to a place were people owned snow shovels. In those 7 years, I could see a steady decline in the quality of life for the reasons you stated. I came back here and have never looked back. I’ll take the snow.

P.S. Don’t leave the country, I’mFedUp. Just leave the state.

Well don’t come to NC because it’s the same way here.

If common sense had ruled Obama would still be pretending to be a senator.

Now he’s pretending to be a president.

Common sense will prevail when the big butterfly net comes out and Obama is censured or impeached.

Common sense needs to be given a chance. Obama’s near the end of his chance.

And if my German ancestors had to learn English in order to be integrated into America, the Spanish speakers can, too.

Common sense.

Great video, thanks Susan. I think what this mess of Obama and his thieves is doing in awakening the patriot in a lot of people. I feel like we took America for granted, and now that we have an America hating POS for “President” people see it finally all slipping away and America ending. It’s scaring people, and rightfully so.

This is America – speak English. Don’t come here illegally, and stop asking to come here and get a free ride. It’s all insanity. People like Pelosi claiming that sweeping for illegals is “Anti-American” are so far off the frigging rails that it’s Kafkaesque at this point. Is that lunatic for REAL? Why do these people want power in a country and culture they despise? THEY should leave this country to real Americans and go run some Commie hell hole of their choice.

Comment by betty | 2009-03-20 23:57:40

Pelosi turned her self inside out to defeat Hillary so she could have her “pork” and also remain “the most powerful woman”. She is scared now because we all know what a ick she is and her seat is at risk. All the sh*8 she pulled to get there and she only gets 2 years. That’s why she is out there talking to “illegals” like that.

For the billions she gave Acorn she will get a bunch of “illegals” counted in the census and then registered to vote – for her she hopes.

Comment by I'mFedUp | 2009-03-21 00:28:45

I honestly think Pelosi-the-Pig is the most dangerous of them all. Please God, let her be booted out asap. Yes, she stabbed HRC and cost us a real President. She will get this back in karma for the rest of her miserable life. I don’t get why anyone would ever vote for her. She looks clinically insane IMO and she’s just plain dangerous to the US.

Your statement reminds me of the statement John McCain made about how he didn’t realize how much he loved America until he was a prisoner of war and she was taken away from him. I think that is what is happening to a lot of us now. We are realizing what we have to lose if we keep following the path Obama is leading us down.

This is powerful, Susan. And whether we agree with every detail, the core of the message rings true–our representatives have turned stone deaf.

We say, enforce our laws, but they turn away. We say, we will not support egregious deficits on future generations, but they cover their ears. We say, we will not support foreign wars with no mission or exit strategy, yet they rally the passions of our sons and daughters. We say, equal treatment in the workplace is our right, but they do nothing. We say educate of our children, but they drag their feet and make endless excuses. We say, American citizens expect and deserve a fair shake in the marketplace, yet they raid the Nation’s coffers with reckless impunity.

We are not a small people. We stand on the shoulders of giants, and we are all related to Thomas Paine and so many others, our historical ancestors, that make each and every politician today look like a sniveling midget.

Push us too far and we’ll start pushing back. We are the sons and daughters of revolutionaries. And our representatives should never forget that.

Hi, Peggy, my live chat pal! That good fellow sent me his video, and i am so glad he did. I subscribed right away so I hope to catch more of his work. I’ve heard a lot of people talk to the camera, and most go on too long or aren’t prepared. This was first-class work with a powerful, and highly focused, message.

I hope this goes viral, Susan. Something has to wake up the country. Or we’re lost. Thanks so much for posting! It really got my blood pressure going :0).

And you’re right–this is a first class performance. This guy “has” to be a professional actor. Or an unsung mega-talent.

God knows, we need a wake up call, quick and loud.

A very polished performance. I wish Obama, our teleprompter leader, had as much conviction and backbone as this gentleman. However, I could use this concept of our country’s forefathers and apply that logic to the horrific eight years of abuses of the Bush/Cheney administration and Republican Congressional leadership with their assault on common sense; these folks took the cake for disregarding the Constitution, destroying the intention of our forefathers to have equal branches of government, taking us into unnecessary wars and mismanaging them, participating in torture, etc., I honestly could go on and on. There was absolutely no common sense in the Bush/Cheney years. They managed to squander all the good will the world bestowed on America and stole our treasury, gave us the abuses of Halliburton and Blackwater, on and on I could go. But there does not appear to be any common sense in the Obama/Biden years either, with them or the Democratic majority in Congress, which is pitiful. And we unfortunately do need a women’s caucus, that is self-evident, so I have to disagree with this very talented video-blogger.

His quick segue from Muslim women modestly covering their hair for drivers’ license photos–essentially appearing as they’re generally seen in public–to hooded members of the KKK certainly punched the wrong button. But I consider this a mixed bag. Some of what he says I agree with.

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2009-03-21 02:12:15

Driving is a privledge not a right.

I can’t take a DMV photo with a 24 NASCAR cap, and the need for speed is my religion.

I am required to take it off and have my picture taken like every other person.

Comment by ziggy | 2009-03-21 02:35:44

OK, I see your point.

Religious Jews should be required to take off the yarmulke to be photographed. Hasidic Jews should doff the hat, and Sikhs must lose the turbin. (Although I don’t know how the picture is gonna look with all that hair that’s underneath. They never cut their hair, you know.) Amish guys should–well, they don’t drive, but the black hats are silly. And toupée have definitely got to go, damn it! If you’re bald, you should be bald on your driver’s license photo!

That includes powdered wigs, Quaker Oats dude!

Comment by WhatNow | 2009-03-21 02:41:31

Ziggy – It’s nice that you’re constant. You’re a silly goose that can’t lay any eggs.

We should have one requirement for everyone. How are you going to identify the women with their faces covered?

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2009-03-21 03:15:34

Ziggy, you miss the point. My civil rights are violated, when I MUST take my cap off, Not that the person wears some article of clothing. If I was not required to do so, all is equal. If another person is given special consideration, then the law is not just. The “common sense” part that alludes you is, what is “common” not what is different.

I suppose you will tell me American Indians are not required to have their pictures on a Drivers license because in their belief structure, taking a pictures of them “freezes” the spirit in a moment in time, which they object to.

Also, If you were law enforcement on a traffic stop, with a DL picture of a woman wearing a hajib, you think in this day and age that would not make the officers job VERY difficult?

I would sooner talk to the Hari Krishna in Penn Station, than seee a woman in a hajib…while I respect the right of the person to wear it, I see it as a very powerful symbol of what is very wrong with Islam and its treatment of women.

Or does the wearing of whitehoods not affend you?

Comment by ziggy | 2009-03-21 15:13:03

There’s a big difference between covering the hair with a turban, scarf, yarmulka, or NASCAR cap and suiting up head to toe in a burka. If one wants to wear a burka in public I suppose that’s OK, though the best one can ever hope for is to be grudgingly tolerated. But expecting to be allowed to wear a burka for a license photo makes no more sense than expecting to be allowed to wear a ski mask.

The standard should be that an ID photo must show a clear likeness of the face, unless there’s some unfortunate medical reason for an exception. So you’ve got every right to the NASCAR cap. But I shouldn’t be allowed a license photo with Groucho glasses, even if I wear them on all other occasions.

I will take “hypen” for a thousand, please Alex….

I was watching a student work on a power point presentation today. One of his slides had a picture of a mountainous region and a “duck” with a cross in Georgia (similar to the link)…

He had a the CIA factbook webpage up for Georgia and I noticed the literacy rate in Georgia was 100%. So for a lark I asked him to lookup the USA….99%.

I felt like ok…this high school kid is getting his stats off a CIA website, which is funny, but he intuitively understood the differnce that 1% made.

English 82.1%, Spanish 10.7%, other Indo-European 3.8%, Asian and Pacific island 2.7%, other 0.7% (2000 census)
note: Hawaiian is an official language in the state of Hawaii

I am a solider. I swore to protect my country from all enemies foreign and domestic. I am sick and tired of illegal immigrants, liberals, and career politicians. I am still willing to fight and die for America, the America of old, not new. Gays, liberals, illegal immigrants, street signs & billboards, documents in foreign languages are not American.
Religion is not part of our Government. It should not matter if you are Baptist, Catholic, Jewish, or Atheist. If you love our country and believe in freedom it is time to band together.
Split the country give the liberals, gays, and other malcontents their land. Laugh when these folks are attacked and killed by their friends of other countries.
STOP supporting the other parts of the world. They have been around longer than our country. They are not willing to help themselves and hate us for not doing enough for them.
It is past time for action and a call to arms. I believe there are enough men and women who agree with this to surprise even the strongest liberal and politician in the world.
