Time Is Telling

You know I have long though Obama was just another Dubya. And he has found yet another way to demonstrate that. Now, this one had to wait until he was actually in office, but happen it has!

Remember how we all blew a gasket over Bush making sure people who asked him questions were his loyal followers? Oh, yeah – Obama, too! You may recall that during his most recent “I must have my face on national television as much as is humanly possible” “press conference,” he said he would be taking more questions via the internet from us, the people. Just your normal, average, every day Americans who might have some concerns we want to share with our “Compassionate” president who cares all about the little people. (I know – I can barely write this stuff out.)

Except not so much your average ol’ American: Obama Town Hall Questioners Were Campaign Backers

President Obama has promised to change the way the government does business, but in at least one respect he is taking a page from the Bush playbook, stocking his town hall Thursday with supporters whose soft — though far from planted — questions provided openings to discuss his preferred message of the day.

Obama has said, “I think it’s important to engage your critics … because not only will you occasionally change their mind but, more importantly, sometimes they will change your mind,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs recounted to The Post’s Lois Romano in an interview Wednesday.

But while the online question portion of the White House town hall was open to any member of the public with an Internet connection, the five fully identified questioners called on randomly by the president in the East Room were anything but a diverse lot. (Emphasis Mine) They included: a member of the pro-Obama Service Employees International Union, a member of the Democratic National Committee who campaigned for Obama among Hispanics during the primary; a former Democratic candidate for Virginia state delegate who endorsed Obama last fall in an op-ed in the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star; and a Virginia businessman who was a donor to Obama’s campaign in 2008.

Well, I’ll be hornswoggled – REALLY?? He didn’t choose random people’s questions to show all over the internet?? Hell no, he didn’t. Did we really believe he would?

Here are their stories:

1. Sergio Salmeron: Self-description at the White House: “My name is Sergio Salmeron. I want to find out about health care.”

Salmeron became engaged with the Obama campaign early in 2008, writing on his blog at my.barackobama.com, “We need to mobilize towards changing the trend of ‘2 to 1 Latinos favoring Hillary over Barack.’ Let’s make a resolute commitment… Let’s put the facts on the table, ask the questions, until we understand how this all applies to us. Then strategize [sic] to get the word out to Latinos in America, who want change as much as everyone else.”

He was a volunteer canvasser for the campaign, he told The Post, and did voter registration work and translated materials for the campaign, as well. A partner at Global Paradigm Strategies, Salmeron is volunteer “member of the Democratic National Committee” and continues to be active with the Obama campaign’s successor, Organizing for America, which is how he got the White House invite, he said.

“I got a call from this woman who has been working with me for the pledge drive,” he said, referring to the Organizing for America drive on behalf of the president’s budget proposal. “You know, we’re trying to get support out for the president’s agenda.”

2. Tom Sawner: Self-description: “Sir, I’m Tom Sawner. I’m a service-disabled veteran, small-business owner in Arlington, Virginia. My company, Educational Options, works with public schools.”

According to Federal Election Commission records, Sawner made a $250 donation to Obama’s campaign on Oct. 27, 2008. He also, as he noted Thursday, served as an adviser on Obama’s educational platform committee. He said he was invited to the White House town hall through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business Executive Council.

Sawner’s no stranger to the White House, either; he attended President Bush’s Feb. 2008 signing ceremony for that year’s economic stimulus package — another Chamber of Commerce invite. And in April 2008, he even became an anecdote in one of Bush’s speeches.

“And I met a guy named Tom Sawner,” the 43rd president said at a small business summit. “Now, he’s an old fighter pilot, which means there’s no wall he can [sic] run through. He’s a doer, an achiever, and he’s got him a small business called Educational Options.”

But the event with Obama, Sawner said, “was a whole different look and feel” than the one with Bush. “This is a president who is into openness.” And he didn’t know he was going to be able to ask a question until he got to the forum, he said.

3. Carlos Del Toro: Self-description: “My name is Carlos Del Toro. I served in the Navy for 26 years, retired four years ago, and started a small business.”

In 2007, Del Toro stood as a Democratic candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates, but did not win. A supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Democratic presidential primaries, he backed Obama against McCain in the general, endorsing him in an Oct. 24, 2008 op-ed in the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star.

“As a Virginia small-business owner, veteran, and Latino, I’m voting for Sen. Barack Obama for the same reasons as millions of other Americans: because I believe this country desperately needs change. Obama will change our economic policies to help middle-class families, promote the growth of small businesses, and increase funding for veterans’ affairs, so no member of our armed services goes without the medical treatment he or she needs and deserves,” he wrote.

In 2008, he donated $2,750 to Virginia Democratic candidates for office, according to the Center for Responsive Politics; in 2006, he gave $1000 to the campaign of now Sen. Jim Webb (Va.), FEC records show.

He also has ties to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Council.

Wouldn’t it have been really funny if, say, Donna Brazile, was one of the people who got to ask the President a question? Sorry – just popped into my head, especially as she is trying to pass herself off as just another citizen when she speaks at the DOJ (Ani has an excellent post on the hubris, and downright insult of having Brazile, that very partisan back-stabber, not-exactly-a-major-feminist speaking on women’s issues). Ahem. Sorry.

Here’s the rest:

4. Linda Bock: “My name is Linda Bock and I’m a registered nurse just in Prince George’s County, Maryland — been there 34 years at a free senior health center. And I’m here with my fellow nurses from SEIU.”

Bock, along with her chapter of the SEIU and her son and daughter, helped campaign and canvass for Obama, she said. After Obama was elected, she wrote in the Landover, Md., 1199 SEIU nurses’ newsletter: “Now we have our work cut out for us -to hold our elected officials accountable. And I hope they hold us accountable too. We all have work to do to make the changes needed to restore our reputation, to heal the wounds of war, to repair our earth and regulate its resources; and, to secure our economic future. It will take sacrifice and service. It will take prayer and the grace of God. Now we have hope. We have President-elect Barack Obama. God bless America.”

Her invite to the White House came through the Nurse Alliance Leadership Council, she said. And like Sawner, she didn’t know until she got to the forum that it was open to the in real life participants. “I did not think we would be able to ask any questions,” she said. “I wasn’t personally anticipating being chosen to ask anything. We knew that the Web portion was people already lined up.”

5. Bonnee L. Breese: “Hi, Mr. President. Thank you so very much for having me, a public school teacher from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, here to be with you.
THE PRESIDENT: What’s your name?
Q Bonnee Breese.
THE PRESIDENT: Good to see you, Bonnee.
Q Thank you. I’m from Overbrook High School. I have to say that, because I know all the children are watching. (Laughter.)”

Breese has not donated a reportable amount to Obama, according to the FEC. She is a member of the 11,626-person Pennsylvania for Obama page on Facebook.

A supporter of the president’s — “Of course!” she said — Breese was invited to the meeting through the American Federation of Teachers union. She sits on the executive board of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers, Local 3, she said, and is known in her area for being politically engaged.

The sixth in-person presidential questioner, “Ellie” from Maryland, did not give her surname. The White House did not respond to a request for it, but noted there were roughly 100 people in the audience.

“The audience was composed of approximately 100 people, including teachers, nurses, small business owners, and community leaders — and the virtual audience of thousands across the country who have submitted questions online,” said White House spokesman Nicholas S. Shapiro. “The White House reached out to a number of community groups and the chamber of commerce and those groups invited their folks to come and participate.”

Oh, yes, I am just so sure they did pick some random people who are simply “concerned citizens” – who believe in supporting everything Obama does. Perfect. What next, a “White House of Chicago, IL”?? Maybe Farrakhan will let him buy his complex to do that. Since it is only a couple of blocks from his current home, he already knows the neighborhood and everything, so it makes sense. Or maybe Rezko can sell him some more property (at a cut rate, naturally) around the house he already has. Just a thought.

Gee – I wonder which Bush-type thing he’ll do next??

I think this is the most manipulative continuing campaign in our history with our own Pravda cheerleading on the sidelines. Will the press ever do their jobs again?

Thank you for giving us the details on this. It borders on the unreal. It is such a fiction–from the little old ladies who donated the pennies in their jam jars and the college kids giving their pizza money and continuing with his phony narrative about transparency.

Argggg!

Bush will never come to justice. Obama and Pelosi have already said it will never happen.

If they hold Bush accountable, then they could be held accountable, too. That is why Bush will be free as a bird forevah!

Congress needs to hold these pols accountable while they’re in office, it’s no good giving them a pass and then threatening justice after the fact.

I’ll try this again: Didn’t post the first time.
Here’s another Bush-like tactic to give K-Street Lobbyists influence, while the powerful get money.

Obama Hearts Lobbyists.

http://thehill.com/the-executive/new-group-offers-rare-entry–to-white-house-for-k-street-2009-03-25.html

New group offers rare entry to White House for K Street

A new business trade group run by Democrats close to President Obama may offer K Street an avenue into a White House extremely wary of lobbyists.

Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to and close friend of Obama; Michael Strautmanis, Jarrett’s chief of staff; and Tina Tchen, the White House public liaison director, met with more than 40 executives and lobbyists from several Fortune 500 companies at a reception last Friday at the Hay-Adams Hotel.

The reception was the first official function sponsored by Business Forward, a new trade group founded by several Democratic consultants.

Some lobbyists said Jarrett’s appearance was a huge selling point for the new group.

“If I am a company and if I see these folks are delivering Valerie Jarrett, I am signing up because there are few people in town who can deliver her right now,” a Democratic lobbyist said.

I was listening to NPR in my car the other day, which I don’t do too much anymore. They were talking about Obama’s Omnibus packagea and the budget. Every single caller was an Obot saying that they thought all of this spending was just fine. No caller was against it. I got so disgusted I turned my radio off, which I usually do. They must have been screening the callers and only accepting the ones who supported him. What a disgrace our media is!

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-03-29 20:06:52

Right there with ya, Nancy – I stopped listening to NPR when they were SO biased against Gore FOR Bush!! I couldn’t believe it! They’d play 15 minutes of Bush, and like 3 of Gore. They perpetuated the lies abt Gore, like the whole Love Canal thing (and if you read the whole story, and find out that the students DEMANDED the NY Times retract the way they portrayed Gore, it will make your blood boil).

You are spot on – our media IS a disgrace!

Could it be that they gave him the old Okey Doke (back at ya, Barry) until the mid-terms in 2010? Can’t imagine any corporate head would want that threat hanging over their head.

Take back the senate and house in 2010 and he’ll be marginalized; Pelosi out as Speaker. Reid as well. Dodd already in trouble in Ct. We might even manage to get Frank out. That’s my wish list anyway.

Funny how Obama supporters, so-called liberals and progressives, are now pro-war and anti-troops.

Even the Hollywood elites are not complaining about the troop increases in Afghanistan and the bombing in Pakistan.

Where are the anti-war protesters now? No where to be seen.

Sigh.

Comment by elise | 2009-03-29 20:32:17

candymarl, Cindy Sheehan is still protesting. Like her or not, she lost a son in Iraq and she is pointing out Obama’s duplicity.

Comment by DisenfranchisedVoter | 2009-03-29 23:19:52

Unfortunately, I think Cindy’s 15 minutes are up. The progressives have lost all credibility with the Obama administration and they don’t have the guts to hold Obama accountable. Notice how Michael Moore has disappeared off the face of the planet? He had the audacity to accuse Hillary Clinton of racism during the primary but he won’t dare accuse Obama of anything bad. Shameful, shameful, shameful.

Comment by candymarl | 2009-03-30 00:25:53

Cindy Sheehan is one person. Notice I said anti-war protesters Where is the outrage from all of the anti-war groups? Still nowhere to be found.

Comment by Hillary or Bust | 2009-03-29 23:54:51

I just read an article today talking about an anti-war protest recently held in DC protesting Obama’s war policies. Alas, I do not have the link.

They are calling him “Obomba!”

One of the chants quoted in the article was something like:

Barack Barack Barack, Afghanistan is the same as Iraq!

Protestors said there were 10,000 attendees, the article said 2,500 – and the organizers blame the economy for there not being a bigger turnout. But there ARE anti-war protesters who have “gotten it” in relation to Obama, and good for them.

Comment by Eastan McNeal | 2009-03-29 20:36:49

What next? Try this. I expect a carbon copy of this in the near future:

Nicole and Jeff Rank were in Charleston, West Virginia, on July 4, 2004 to protest a visit by President Bush to the state capitol.

… They were wearing T-shirts that read “Love America, Hate Bush,” the Gazette reported.

“Law enforcement officers told the couple to take the shirts off, cover them, or get out,” AP reported. “When they refused and sat down, they were arrested.”

The two were charged with trespassing, but a judge dismissed the charges on July 15.

Andrew Schneider, executive director of the ACLU of West Virginia, which helped defend the couple, called their arrest a “glaring violation of the First Amendment,” according to the Gazette.

On July 19, the Charleston City Council ate crow. “The city does hereby apologize to Nicole and Jeff Rank,” it said in a resolution, AP reported.

So. We have not heard much about the WH legal team going after people who produce T-shirts and mugs that are anti-0, since the original story of that broke almost two months ago.

What will happen if you go to a bH0 town meeting, wearing a pro-0 shirt, rip it off to reveal an anti-0 shirt? Will you be escorted out? Will Red, White and Blue become the new pink?

Oh. Let’s ramble. At a recent event 0 did not use the dual teleprompters. His trainers used a big screen situated behind the small audience to deliver words to him. If you held up a big sign that said “I love you BO,” right in front of the screen will you be forced to take it down. That would be a lot easier than bringing a static producing device that will disrupt the teleprompters, as some geeks in Europe are chuckling about.

Maybe England will create a doubters prison for them.

As I posted earlier this week, I had two victories regarding the Fraud. One, a work colleague, called him a “moron” after the 60 Minutes “Stoner in Chief” segment. And wished she had never voted for him. Another business associate said “he’s not MY President” even though he was a huge Zero supporter and voted for him.

Then, I got a great voicemail, a really long one, from my ex-boyfriend in Texas, who told me he was sorry and that he can’t believe how right I was, etc. And that Obama is the biggest disaster this country has ever seen.

Today, I got another one…this email from another friend who called me a “racist” for not liking the Fraud.

I am very sorry for doubting you, you were right all along, and Obama may turn out to be the worst thing to ever happen to this country. Sigh.

One by one, they’re falling. Tick tock, tick tock, time’s running out El Fraudamundo.

I’mFedUp — Thanks for the update of those who have finally seen the light. Hannity says there is a backlash out there and although Obama is at 56% only 36% strongly support him. What a difference 60 days make.

Comment by I'mFedUp | 2009-03-29 21:27:20

I was watching Hannity (still am) and I thought he quoted the Zogby poll that has the Fraud at 49% giving him excellent or good, and 50% giving him poor or so-so. Whatever it is, it’s dropping fast. Not even I thought this would happen so soon. I was prepared to “gird my loins” for 12-18 months before the big backlash. Woot! Woot! America’s not stupid after all.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-03-29 23:08:26

Thanks for the heartening stories!

The only comfort I have, and it’s not much considering what it cost, is that I took a whole lot of crap for telling the truth about Obama. People were pretty mean to me about it. Now they look at the floor when we talk about it. I hate the “I told you so” thing. But honestly what I tell them now is that they owe it to the country to take some action to fix their mistake.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-03-30 16:06:18

Something, will come down in society though that will blow it for them. Possibly health care since that was their big issue. Oh…and if their taxes go up anyway…

Comment by I'mFedUp | 2009-03-29 21:09:03

Annie, you could have blown me away with a feather on all of those people changing their tune this fast. I actually didn’t even solicit it. It’s almost like they’re already embarrassed that they were so conned. I don’t expect to get too many more of them, here in CA. But, thank God my family in Missouri, Texas and Tennessee can’t stand him and didn’t vote for him in the first place. I would be really sad to have a brother or sister I had to run out of my life LOL.

Obama is a one-termer, if that. He’s not going to get a chance to screw up the health care thing. Where’s the money going to come from? IF he ever gets it, he will be out the door anyway. Maybe he could have thought about priorities in the 9.3 Trillion Dollar boondoggle budget. Guess those pigs needed the green golf carts and Nancy needs her jumbo jet. ROFLMAO.

I appreciate your updates on the ones who let you know they regret their vote. I have not heard that from too many in my vicinity — then again, I certainly don’t bring it up. I, too, took a lot of crap for telling the truth and had a few people looking at me like I was wearing a tin foil hat.

Well, soon they may be wearing a tin foil hat to protect them from the damaging mind-control rays that Axelrod and Co. are sending out.

As each day passes with BO in the WH one more Obot sees the light. This past week listening to conversation in my waiting room at work, two AA people were going back and forth until I heard, ‘Well, Clinton would have been good, she might have known what she was doing.” Seemed like they were coming out of the coma induced state of BO’s rhetoric of hope and change.

Prospect of Barack Obama show causes UK to clear its decks

With an entourage of 500 staff, an armour-plated limousine and a fleet of decoy helicopters, America’s new president will arrive for his first visit to Britain amid huge razzmatazz on Tuesday for the G20 summit.

More than 500 officials and staff will accompany the president on his tour this week – along with a mass of high-tech security equipment, including the $300,000 presidential limousine, known as The Beast. Fitted with night-vision camera, reinforced steel plating, tear- gas cannon and oxygen tanks, the vehicle is the ultimate in heavy armoured transport.

Obama will start his first presidential visit to Europe when he steps down from the US presidential jet, Air Force One, at Stansted airport on Tuesday. The Boeing 747-200B is fitted with its own gym, electronic defence units and shielding to protect its complex communication devices from radiation from nuclear blasts. Among the officials on the flight will be a military officer carrying America’s nuclear missile launch codes.

Obama will then be flown to central London in a VH-3D helicopter known as Marine One. Again, high-tech security will dominate his journey. Marine One is fitted with flares that can be fired to confuse heat-seeking missiles and always flies in groups containing several identical decoy helicopters.

While in town, the president will be guarded by more than 200 US secret servicemen – easily identifiable by their shirt-cuff radios and Ray-Ban sunglasses.

And should anything befall the President, a White House medical unit will be at hand to provide emergency care. The team consists of surgeons, nurses and other medical personnel and carries supplies of blood of the type AB, the president’s blood group. At the same time, Obama will be constantly minded by his personal aide Reggie Love, who dials his BlackBerry, fetches his jacket and tie and supplies him with snacks. First Lady Michelle Obama will also have a coterie of assistants, including a secretary, a press officer and several bodyguards.
