Chris Tingle Thinks McCain Bought a “Mail-Order Bride”

This astonishing exchange is from March 30th’s Hardball with Chris Matthews. Matthews, who believes we live a “post-feminist” world, also believes in a world where women are objects of exchange, and flesh is for sale:

MATTHEWS: You’re a great reporter, Howard – I’m going to set you up. You are a great reporter. You are the best – the best in the business. What happened between those two?

FINEMAN: It was a lost weekend that didn’t go beyond the weekend.

MATTHEWS: He thought she was something special. He thought she was the genuine article.

FINEMAN: He had no idea. He had no idea, with all die respect to the Senator. He had no idea what he was getting. They came into the convention and I was covering it closely at the time.

MATTHEWS: What was she – a mail-order bride? What do you mean he had no idea who she was?

FINEMAN: Practically he really didn’t know. He didn’t know her. They didn’t have any other good choices. They had a boring convention they were facing in St. Paul. They wanted to liven it up. They said, hey – let’s pick this conservative young woman governor from Alaska. And he crossed his fingers and said fine. It was a great convention, it was exciting. It was fun.

Matthews seems to have no problem characterizing women in these terms. On the March 27 broadcast of his program, Matthews referred to Rep. Michele Bachman, R-Minn., as the "Mata Hari of Minnesota."

All debt is owed to Newsbusters.org.

I wonder if bibs are given out to the guest on his show. I know I would hate to have my suit ruined by this clown’s spittle!

This is beyond disgusting. Why haven’t they fired him? I am appalled — his wife was a news anchor at Channel 7 in our area for a long time, will she say something to him? I know he and his ilk rationalize their hatred for Palin but this is beyond.. I’m speechless.

And this is why I stick with CNN and
comedy central.

Better than the horseshit coming out of fox and msnbc.
Olbermann, Hannity, Matthews, and O’Reilly should be stuck in a rocket and shot into the sun.
Hell, throw Dobbs and Rick Sanchez in there for me.

Comment by IndianaDem | 2009-03-31 00:14:09

Damn, how much room is in the rocket? Rush takes up two seats, you know. Beck can go as Rush’s carry-on luggage.

Maybe if we got rid of all of the spinmeisters–both right and left–we could eventually cool down enough to have a rational conversation.

Comment by Buzz Latte | 2009-03-31 00:42:31

Sure go ahead as watch the third and fourth place “news” channels. It’s great for obot indoctrination.

But then, could we ever expect anything else from drones?

I am so sick of this. I don’t agree with Palin on many social issues, but she was skewered because she was a woman. Period. But The MSM couldn’t stop there; they had to savage her entire family–her husband, her daughter, her daughter’s boyfriend. On and on, it goes. And Trig? Was he really hers?? And how dare she be a politico with a family to take care of, a disabled child no less?

Bachman brought up a perfectly reasonable query to Geithner: what sir, in the Constitution, gives the Treasury this power?? He fumbled a response. But she’s labeled the Mata Hari of MN.

And, of course, the Hillary Derangement Syndrome, has been covered at length: she sounds like every carping ex-wife; her voice is like nails on a chalkboard; she should be taken in a backroom where only one [the man] comes out. And she’s a racist, too.

But are they sexist? They would scream: No, oh no. We are objective journalists. We’re simply doing our jobs.

Bullshit.

They’re shills, every last one of them. And they’re sexist pigs, too, who laughingly call themselves journalists.

There’s a reason that MSNBC is failing. CNN, too. And they deserve failure!

Comment by I'mFedUp | 2009-03-31 02:38:18

We sent a note and contribution to Bachmann. She’s another Palin. Gorgeous, smart, and not about the corrupt scum of the left.

Comment by Sabina | 2009-03-31 00:21:15

DISGUSTING DISGUSTING DISGUSTING DISGUSTING.

Mathews would never be able to get away with saying anything anti-semitic or racist. But hey you say anything about womenand get away with it.

You know ladies maybe it is our fault. Do you know i think it was the president of msnbc who said in an interview when asked how he planned on getting back women viewers who were disgusted at the blatant sexism during the primaries. Do you want to know what was his reply? Like abused women who go back to their boyfirends, we women would be coming back to msnbc. I will try to find the link.

I just want to scream at women who watch Bill maher, who pay to see him during his stand-up shows, at Jeanne Garaflo who would defend him and say he is not like ann coultor (he is exactly like ann coultor), at the women on his panel who do not call him out on his sexism, I just want to scream at smart women like Helen and Christianne Amanpour who go on his show and give him serious credibility.

When women start boycotting shows like real time, msnbc, write to the advertisers who advertise on these shows, then and only then can there be a difference.

Just look at the outrage on Oliphant anti-semitic cartoon, look at how Jewish groups were able to make and impact and were taken seriously. Men expect women to not be sensitive and PC but boy when something offends or insults them they are quick to pull out the racism or anti-semitic card.

Where were all the feminist groups, why are they not able to make an impact, our protest at the disgust of this clip would not even be known (except by No Quarter readers).

Susan thanks anyway for trying to bring out misogony. You and the rest of the No Quarter team do a good job.

Comment by Sabina | 2009-03-31 00:23:26

oops I mean thanks Susan for pointing out misogony and for placing a spotlight on the one form of bigotory that is always ignored.

Comment by NoBamaNoWay | 2009-03-31 01:38:43

correct, sabina; women need to boycott these sexist organizations, but more importantly, they need to boycott the sexist men (and women) in their own lives. no woman should date, marry, be friends with, raise the kids of, or give the time of day to guys that think women are dirt.

chrissy tingle’s wife is a case in point; did she fall on her head when she was a baby, or what? what in the hell is any woman with an ounce of self-respect and two brain cells to rub together doing with a man like that? those women make it difficult for the rest of us to get any respect.

Comment by Ani | 2009-03-31 03:12:05

Comment by cynic | 2009-03-31 14:25:51

Given her record of professional and personal accomplishments, there’s very little doubt Kathleen Matthews has earned a high level of respect from nearly everyone she deals with. She’s also had a successful marriage and family life. You don’t approve of her choice of a husband, so you’re asserting that she’s somehow pathetic.

You do realize what you’re doing here, don’t you? You’re stereotyping a highly successful woman as someone who is a downtrodden, pathetic little victim because of her gender. How do you even know that she isn’t the stronger personality in the marriage?

Comment by WMCB | 2009-03-31 00:21:46

Mathews shouldn’t be the one to talk.

He bought a mail-order-bride himself. Her name was Obama.

Comment by Obama: Dubya II Electric Boogaloo | 2009-03-31 00:31:44

I seriously think the left has gone pathological on their assault on Sarah Palin. It wasn’t just good enough to tear her apart for Obama, now its to the point where they just want to destroy her, her family and career. At some point I hope all their bitterness and vindictivness backlashes on them once Obama starts hitting the approval skids.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2009-03-31 00:56:27

I honestly think the Far Left is afraid of Sarah Palin. She made a mark in a very quick time frame. Now she’s being attacked with frivolous lawsuits, anything to slow her down and make her life miserable.

Although I was willing to vote for her as a VP candidate last year, I couldn’t support her run for POTUS in 2012. Too soon. She’s just not ready yet. But I hate what my party is doing, a deliberate hit job. Makes me ill.

And yes, I believe the Dems will be payed back royally. And frankly? They deserve it.

Karma’s a bitch!

Comment by to77 | 2009-03-31 02:21:26

too soon? by 2012 she will be a second term Governor and former VP candidate. How is that too soon? How many terms does she have to serve to qualify in your mind? she will have been governor for 6 years.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2009-03-31 02:48:26

I simply think she needs more experience in national politics. Had McCain’s bid for POTUS been successful, she would have had that. I never bought into the idea that McCain was going to drop dead on Day One. The man is in better physical shape than most of his Senate collegues, despite his age. Before the primaries, he trekked across the Grand Canyon. I’m guessing there are a lot of senators who wouldn’t match that.

Palin may still surprise me. I always thought the meme that she was unqualified to be VP and Obama was qualified to be POTUS was a crock. But she needs a better handle on world issues for people to take her seriously. She might do it but 2012 will come on quickly, and she cannot afford to stumble.

What she has on her side is the honesty factor. She says what she thinks and people respond to that. But I’m not about to vote for someone who isn’t ready.

We’re watching the result of where that goes. And it’s not pretty.

Comment by to77 | 2009-03-31 10:08:33

she will be well versed in national politics by 2012. she is smart and will have the time to learn this stuff inside and out. she was thrust into the race with less then a couple weeks notice and was asked to have the same handle on the issues that guys who had been running for years and she still did pretty well.

we have had a long line of Governors hold the White House and after 6 years of executive experience she will be just fine.

Isnt it interesting how Palin’s daughter was and is covered ad nauseum but Biden’s daughter doesnt seem to even register here in the US:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/5075909/Video-alleged-to-show-Joe-Bidens-daughter-snorting-cocaine.html

How is a candidate’s daughter’s pregnancy and relationship with her boyfriend such burning news but the VP’s daughter snorts cocaine and ho-hum?

I wonder why?

Comment by IndianaDem | 2009-03-31 03:06:42

I think it’s sort of a tabloid news fixation. I’m not sure what it actually means. I suppose it’s possible that the fixation might stem from the fact that mainstream America identifies more strongly with the Palins, while they have a minimal sense of identification with or interest in the Biden family. The Palins have become celebrities. Biden is just an uninteresting VP.

Comment by to77 | 2009-03-31 10:00:42

Tabloid news? every major news outlet(CNN, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, New York Times, etc.) was covering the Palin’s daughter (a teen pregnancy) while no one is covering the VP’s daughter (video of cocaine use). My gosh the same week that this administration’s Sec Of State goes to Mexico and blames the US drug culture for the Mexico drug problem this administrations VP’s daughter is filmed snorting cocaine, that’s not a story but Bristol’s break up is (reported on CNN and MSNBC)!?

It is a good bit of twisted logic to excuse the media bias and misogyny in which you’ve engaged.

Comment by Rose | 2009-03-31 02:28:08

When John McCain asked Sarah Palin to be his Vice-Presidential running mate, that was in effect an unequivocal, full-fledged endorsement for her to be President of the US. It’s a stupid question, thus, for a reporter to ask if he endorses her, and it is stupider still for him to hem and haw around about it.

For God’s sake, let’s MOVEON!

It’s because of McCain’s weak charactrer, and not Palin, that they lost the election. Piss-on-the-pant-leg Matthews would be fickle enough to make her the reason for the loss.

The only reason Mccain did as well as he did is thanks to Palin…The idiot Mccain didn’t even have the balls to defend her (and hence all women) from jerk offs like Matthews and prion-infested Obots–that’s where McCain totally lost my respect forever. While he has revealed himself to be an unprincipled crowd pleasing sissy in the end, I’d still take that over the America-hating, middle-class despising marxist Oboobi anyday.

What shits these idiots are. It there’s a hell then there’s certainly a special nook for pathological sycophants and reputation wreckers like this dink.

Palin on the other hand is a bomb shell…honest, hardworking, respectful, clever, gorgeous, dedicated to principals but not a zealot, and best of all she is genuinely American in every way possible (which includes being easy to underestimate). I truly admire this woman, as a woman.

Matthews needs to be fired or made to make a public apologize to Palin face-to-face. If any man made such a comment at work he would be fired immediately without warning or severance.

As far as Howard Fineman if he ever was a legitimate journalist he left it behind years ago. He is a no talent tabloid reporter who concocts his political stories.

What goes around, comes around. These journalists who are trashing Governor Palin every day better remember that two can play the same game. When she becomes President in 2012, she’ll be holding press conferences. Guess which journalists she is going to call on all the time? It isn’t going to be the likes of those from the NY Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC, etc.

Just a thought…when Obama is finally outed and his birth certificate is exposed in the coming year, she actually may win the Presidency in a special election when the people have had enough of the Democratic morons and smart asses.

Palin 2012

Comment by DAB | 2009-03-31 08:32:17

I recall how Obama was really rattled when Palin suddenly made the scene during the campaign. He openly complained that the media was covering her too much — that was until after the Republican convention when they turned on her, then he didn’t seem to mind.

I believe that some of the so-called derangement that the MSM and left-wingers expressed was partially due to the fact that she had the audacity to mock Barack in her coming-out speech and she was an unexpected threat that they had to immediately crush.

Although I also do not agree with Palin on issues, I was appalled at what happened next and ended up voting for her. Still like the gal — she has lots of moxie and may yet surprise those who savaged and dismissed her as fluff.

Comment by Bart | 2009-03-31 08:34:20

It’s been said that Sarah Palin needs Washington experience. HUH? Obama has 143 days in the Senate before he ran for President. Before that he was a state Senator and a community organizer, both hardly Washington experience jobs.

Palin is an executive as a mayor first and as a Governor who has her finger on a nuclear trigger that would most likely be the first to be used. She has more experience in that little finger of hers than Obama has to date.

By the way….if you don’t like the fact that Obama is going Communist with our country and you want to send him a message. Here’s how….Don’t buy what I call, OBAMACARS, from GM or Chrysler. Buy from Ford who did not take bailout money and from the foreign companies. We should do what should have been done in the first place. Force them into bankruptcy to start all over without government interference this time.

Comment by tango | 2009-03-31 09:24:14

Well supposedly Rahm, Carville and the Democratic brain trust has decided Palin will be the GOPer to get the smear tactic:

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/03/30/oh-my-dem-strategists-set-to-give-palin-the-limbaugh-treatment/

I personally hope she just keeps her mouth shut and doesn’t respond to every little jab thrown her way. Doing so takes her time and energy away from Alaskan politics, makes her seem thin skinned and just plays into their desires to make her look whiny. She also might say something stupid that would be more ammo that can be used against her.

I can see Rush but to pick on Palin? Seems really convenient and obvious when there’s many other Republican Governors who can be picked on also – Perry, Sanford, Jindal. I only hope if they proceed, it backfires for them.
