Does The Name Anita Moncrief Ring A Bell?
By Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy on March 31, 2009 at 7:30 PM in ACORN, Bamboozling, Barack Obama, Censorship, New York Times, Voter Fraud
It should, if the media had done their job, that is. Well, the Wall Street Journal did a while back, and I did a piece back in November on her. Her name should be familiar because she was a whistleblower on ACORN. And, she was having conversations with the New York Times about ACORN and Obama, a story on which the Times chose to sit before the election. Kinda like when the LA Times refused to release videos of Obama attending an anti-Israel testimonial for a professor friend of his. But I digress…
The Bulletin, one of the oldest newspapers in the country, had this story on Monday,‘New York Times’ Spiked Obama Donor Story:Congressional Testimony: ‘Game-Changer’ Article Would Have Connected Campaign With ACORN. The title pretty much says it all, and what it says is that the NY Times has completely ceased to be a reputable news reporting organization, and has revealed itself to be nothing more than a propaganda arm for Barack Obama. Sure, sure, it still pretends to report stories, and yes, it even has Paul Krugman, the Nobel Prize winner, Princeton Economics professor as a columnist, who is often critical of Obama’s whacked out ideas, but he is a voice crying in the NY Times wilderness, for all intents and purposes.
But let’s get into the nuts and bolts of the article - honestly, this does not require a lot of commentary for me as it is plain, in my humble opinion, that the NY Times has failed MISERABLY as any kind of reputable news source:
A lawyer involved with legal action against Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) told a House Judiciary subcommittee on March 19 The New York Times had killed a story in October that would have shown a close link between ACORN, Project Vote and the Obama campaign because it would have been a “a game changer.”Heather Heidelbaugh, who represented the Pennsylvania Republican State Committee in the lawsuit against the group, recounted for the committee what she had been told by a former ACORN worker who had worked in the group’s Washington, D.C. office. The former worker, Anita Moncrief, told Ms. Heidelbaugh last October, during the state committee’s litigation against ACORN, she had been a “confidential informant for several months to The New York Times reporter, Stephanie Strom.”
Ms. Moncrief had been providing Ms. Strom with information about ACORN’s election activities. Ms. Strom had written several stories based on information Ms. Moncrief had given her.
During her testimony, Ms. Heidelbaugh said Ms. Moncrief had told her The New York Times articles stopped when she revealed that the Obama presidential campaign had sent its maxed-out donor list to ACORN’s Washington, D.C. office.
Ms. Moncrief told Ms. Heidelbaugh the campaign had asked her and her boss to “reach out to the maxed-out donors and solicit donations from them for Get Out the Vote efforts to be run by ACORN.”
Ms. Heidelbaugh then told the congressional panel:
“Upon learning this information and receiving the list of donors from the Obama campaign, Ms. Strom reported to Ms. Moncrief that her editors at The New York Times wanted her to kill the story because, and I quote, “it was a game changer.”’
“IT WAS A GAME CHANGER.” Emphasis mine, obviously. The NY Times withheld a critical story regarding Barack Obama because it would impact the election. How can that be viewed as anything less than unethical, immoral, and as a complete and utter failure to do the work the Fourth Estate has been entrusted to do?
There is more:
Ms. Moncrief made her first overture to Ms. Heidelbaugh after The New York Times allegedly spiked the story — on Oct. 21, 2008. Last fall, she testified under oath about what she had learned about ACORN from her years in its Washington, D.C. office. Although she was present at the congressional hearing, she did not testify.U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wisc., the ranking Republican on the committee, said the interactions between the Obama campaign and ACORN, as described by Ms. Moncrief, and attested to before the committee by Ms. Heidelbaugh, could possibly violate federal election law, and “ACORN has a pattern of getting in trouble for violating federal election laws.”
He also voiced criticism of The New York Times.
“If true, The New York Times is showing once again that it is a not an impartial observer of the political scene,” he said. “If they want to be a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party, they should put Barack Obama approves of this in their newspaper.”
Academicians and journalism experts expressed similar criticism of the Times.
“The New York Times keeps going over the line in every single campaign and last year was the worst, easily,” said Mal Kline of the American Journalism Center. “They would ignore real questions worth examining about Obama, the questions about Bill Ayers or about how he got his house. Then on the other side they would try to manufacture scandals.”
Mr. Kline mentioned Gov. Sarah Palin was cleared by investigators of improperly firing an Alaska State Trooper, but went unnoticed by The Times.
“How many stories about this were in The New York Times,” he asked.
“If this is true, it would not surprise me at all. The New York Times is a liberal newspaper. It is dedicated to furthering the Democratic Party,” said Dr. Paul Kengor, professor of Political Science at Grove City College. “People think The New York Times is an objective news source and it is not. It would not surprise me that if they had a news story that would have swayed the election into McCain’s favor they would not have used it.”
Liberal or not, the issue is their integrity as a reputable news organization. That lack of integrity is most troubling.
Naturally, the ACORN people had something to say about all of this:
ACORN has issued statements claiming that Ms. Moncrief is merely a disgruntled former worker.“None of this wild and varied list of charges has any credibility and we’re not going to spend our time on it,” said Kevin Whelan, ACORN deputy political director in a statement issued last week.
Yeah, okay. Just like ACORN is a NON-PARTISAN organization, too, right, Kevin? That was completely unbiased int his past election? Like this?
Ahem. Just save it already. We’re not buying what you’re selling.
And finally, here is the response from the NY Times:
Stephanie Strom was contacted for a comment, and The New York Times’ Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Catherine Mathis replied with an e-mail in her place.Ms. Mathis wrote, “In response to your questions to our reporter, Stephanie Strom, we do not discuss our newsgathering and won’t comment except to say that political considerations played no role in our decisions about how to cover this story or any other story about President Obama.” (Michael P. Tremoglie can be reached at mtremoglie@thebulletin.us)
Yeah, I bet you don’t discuss your “newsgathering” because then you would have to discuss your “newsDUMPING,” Ms. Mathis!
Between the LA Times and the NY Times, with a whole bunch of “news sources” in between, our media has made it blatantly obvious that reporting critical stories that might actually reveal important, RELEVANT information to the people, is squashed. Our Fourth Estate is no more. It is now a part of the Executive Branch.
Lou Dobbs is right: this is “obscene and outrageous.” And an affront to our democracy, such as it is since the “game changer” information was suppressed. The NY Times needs to change its saying from “All the news that’s fit to print” to “all the news we deem fit to print that best protects our chosen candidate(s).” And that makes them a propaganda rag, nothing more.

I still get annoyed that Ben Smith sat on the story (when he had at least 2 sources) that The Obama had Ayers and Dorhn babysits their little girls. you know that guy that just lives in the neighborhood.
ps the origonal Bulletin stopped a couple years ago they started a new Bulletin, I think it is a conservative paper
There’s so much that’s been squashed by the MSM on BO. This reminds me of the LATimes not releasing the video of the dinner with Khalidi, Michelle and BO. I mean someone’s got that video, someone’s got his school records. In this age of information someone with a little power can’t get hold of this stuff, what about Karl Rove, isn’t he Axelrod’s match? Wouldn’t you think that the Repubs could have gotten their hands on something so incendiary it would have stopped this disaster from stepping one foot into the WH.
It has been my thinking for some time that Rove et al thought the Republican brand was damaged and no matter what they did, it would be hard to keep a Dem out of the WH this time, so they threw McCain to the wolves since he is not their idea of a conservative, anyway. How many times did we wonder where the big Republican machine was last fall? Remember? That is no coincidence.
I think they wanted to throw this one and let Obama damage the Democratic brand for years to come. Then the Republicans can come roaring back in ‘12. I have heard this theory floated many places, and on mainstream news as well (of course, they omitted the part about throwing McCain to the wolves).
Didn’t anyone ever wonder why Rove was being so buddy buddy with Donna Brazile and advising her. No one could really think he is now on board with a Democratic agenda. Sometimes you have to lose to win.
Funny how people think the GOP was stupid this time, and I agree with Ani. I think McCain pulled off as many votes as he did because of Palin, and because some of us with brains were appalled and disgusted by Obama already. The GOP is probably laughing their azzes off at the DNC for the fact that they are digging themselves in deeper every day and they won’t be well received in 2010. My only comfort, as I watch Obama destroy the country, is that there will be no prayer in hell he has a second term and it will take years for the Dems to gain credibility after this disgrace.
I agree - I think they are just biding their time.
And if there hadn’t been so much rampant voter fraud courtesy of ACORN, the election would have been even closer than the numbers would indicate.
As I understand it, ACORN individuals have been convicted, but the organization itself is still under investigation in over 12 states. So, yes - it begs the question - why are they getting our tax paying dollars in the first place, and how the HELL are they getting to do the Census? Oh, yeah, right - Obama got that milquetoast to take over Commerce so he wouldn’t protest Obama’s minions deciding who got representatives and who didn’t…
You’ve got nothing, absolutely nothing, here Amy, except your cute puppies. Are you telling me ACORN voting fraud you provide no evidence for made for Obama’s 200 Electoral Vote, 8.5 million popular vote margin over McCain? You might as well condemn the NY Times for not providing breathless front page coverage of the Whitey Tape, that other would be gamechanger.
Um, Dave, there has been widespread reporting on ACORN fraud, downright voter fraud in OH, FL, GA, and PA, to name a few. I have, along with a number of my fellow writers here, documented it.
Maybe you didn’t watch Lou Dobbs? Or a number of news reports on the rampant ACORN fraud??
And hey - the LA Times admitted they have the videos I referenced. Anita Moncrief’s testimony has been out for a while. I’m not going to re-write it all here - feel free to do a searc above.
We do agree on my cute pups, though!
Here you go Dave. Why not just google Acorn Fraud and see how many hits you get. Here’s a few that took less than 10 mins to find.
A suburban Philadelphia man is charged with forgery, allegedly altering 18 voter-registration applications during his employment with an organization whose voter-outreach efforts have become a flashpoint in the presidential campaign.

ACORN and voter registration fraud in MI
With just a few weeks left until Election Day, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, better known as ACORN, continues to make headlines. Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox announced on Tuesday that charges were being filed against Antonio Johnson, who worked for ACORN as a canvasser to register new voters earlier this year.
Non-Profit Raided In Voter Fraud Probe
The Las Vegas headquarters of the nation’s largest grassroots community organization for low-income people was raided today by Nevada state authorities as part of a voter-fraud probe.

By all accounts Karl Rove worked with Brazile to usher in BO, which goes to show that BO is the continuation of GWB. On one level, there must have been an agreement between Bush and the Dems to install BO, and I think that agreement concerned not going after GWB, Cheney, and Rove for their crimes in office. On a broader level, the installation of BO had to do with the continuation of the economic policies that would enrich Wall Street further at the expense of main street.
The Press/Journalism Died in 2008!
The only thing that has happened to ACORN (the organization that doesn’t take government money)since the election fraud is the 4 million it was given in the stimulus package by the Dims.
Is it four million or four BILLION?
Billion, I think. My own personal belief is that there is indeed a Whitey tape, I remember distinctly hearing Obama explaining “why’d he” instead. I also believe that Obama’s college records, passport et al. are damaging and that persons hiding this info are treasonous bastards and should swing. Acorn during the election was a hot button issue and could have done damage but it has faded from the radar of most voters now.
ACORN is nothing but a money laundering, dysfunctional group of entitled thugs who need to be indicted under the RICO act for the crap they pull.
Dysfunctional or not, the Obama administration is gearing to have them ‘help’ in the 2010 Census.
How is it this organization continues to violate federal laws/state laws and yet remains without any type of prosecution?
It may be up to the states to do the prosecuting. That One’s Justice Department won’t, that’s for sure.
They were smart enough to know that the governing body to investigate and penalize Caucus Irregularities is the DNC. Talk about the rat guarding the cheese. That’s why nothing happened to those dirtbags. No laws cover caucuses so there was no way to make it criminal.
I can hardly wait to see the African American census numbers. With the press and CNN coverage, people already think they make up half the country.
Apparently Republicans are cowards when it comes to facing them down, no less than any of the Democrats or why would they still be operational after all the laws they’ve violated? There are no Republican prosecutors? No Blue Dog Democrat prosecutors that are willing to take them on?
I tried Diana. As I stated above, the only criminal charges that could be brought were the ones of harassment, physical violence, etc. As for the fraud they committed, there was nothing anyone could do. But, as a group, I would think there has to be some way to indict them for this crap under RICO. I bet if they try the crap with the Census someone will get them big time.
I’mFedUp, sure sounds like you have a lot of experience in this!
As for the convictions, like I said, they seem to be going after individuals more than the organization itself. It’s like those college guys who voted twice - in OH and NY (I believe it was). Their rich parents got them good lawyers and they got off pretty light. They even admitted their voter fraud. They were NOT the only ones. They, too, were affiliated with an organization pushing for people to do this. Haven’t hear word one abt the organization being charged (I assume ACORN and others have plausible deniability. They can CLAIM they never instructed their people to do that sort of thing, blah, blah, blah.).
And no WAY Obama’s justice department will do anything. Hell, he’s nominated a man to be the State Dept counsel (Koh) who believes international law should supersede our own, including Sharia law. I am not kidding you. So, yeah - Justice won’t do squat.
RRRAmy…I do have a lot of experience with this. I was fuming pissed about the Hillary/Caucus Fraud thing. That discovery of that crap was so heartbreaking. Ughhhh…I tried to do something about it. Only to find out that there’s nothing criminal involved in Caucus Fraud. The DNC makes the rules, and they can break them. I also found out that there is nothing in the Constitution that guarantees us a vote. There are the Amendments that prevent anyone from being deprived of their vote based on gender, race, etc. But there was nowhere to go with this court wise I was sadly informed.
I do think that Caucuses will be banned, which should stop some of the fraud. And I wonder what happened with all of the criminal complaints that were filed by people who were threatened with death, loss of employment, etc. and to those who were actually bullied or assaulted. We need a big dose of reform in the voting system, or the Fraud will pull his crap again in 2010 and 12.
I don’t think people realized how closely involved with ACORN the Fraud is. He gave them $800,000 during the campaign and no one said “WTF?” Except us of course, LOL. I think this will hurt him big time eventually.
The Constitution forms the limits and responsibilities the government has when representing The People. It makes it perfectly clear in both the Declaration of Independence and the Preamble to the Constitution that without The People there is no government.
It also clearly states that any rights not set forth in the Constitution belong to the individual States and to The People; the Legislative Branch of government is formed by members elected from the states.
However, State governments are no longer in charge of selecting The People’s representatives from among their citizens. That was proven in both 2000 when the Republican party took over Florida elections and in 2008 when the two parties usurped State authority to set and control elections (Article I, Sections 4, 5, 6) and disenfranchised two state with no Constitutional authority to do so.
The very fact that the Legislature and the States saw fit to pass amendments allowing groups of people (former slaves, women) the vote along with “free white men” (and remember indentured servants were not “free”) shows their intent that The People participate in the election process.
It would take the Supreme Court to deny anyone the vote because all they do is judge cases based on the Constitution but reread that Constitution and you will discover that the “right to vote” may be implied but not explicit but there is nothing in the Constitution about political parties having anything to do with selecting candidates for voters to vote on. There’s your real Constitutional problem. If political parties are not given power over elections under the Constitution why are they selecting our candidates and running our elections? That power was reserved to the states!
So if we ever want to adjudicate the right to vote, we can adjudicate the right of political parties to select candidates for the People at the same time.
Thank you for your response! I appreciate it!
Speaking of election reform, we are working on showing a documentary on this that one of our readers, Kathleen Wynne, formerly of Black Box voting did, with a Live Chat!! We’ll keep you posted!
And I agree - I think if the media did it’s JOB, more people would know abt Obama’s CLOSE connection to ACORN, and that WE are funding them!!!
AT A MEETING WITH ACORN, 0BAMA TOLD THEM THEY WOULD BE INVOLVED IN EVERY DECISION HE MADE!!! WTF!!!?? DID NO ONE ELSE HEAR HIM SAY THIS??? ITS ON TAPE.
There has to be a way to stop this group from recieving public funding if they’re violating laws. No?
move the i to the e, and the e to the i. I before E except after C Diana.
I can’t believe that ACORN got all that money and WE are paying for it. My taxpaying dollars are paying directly to a scumbag group of thieves and cheaters. We’ll find a way to screw them, trust me.
And the NY Times is going broke. Couldn’t happen to a nicer organization. They wonder why their ad dollars are down? Do they actually think they’ve represented the interests of the American people? Guess they forgot that half of us voted for someone else regardless of their endless drumbeat for 0. Same with the 2 Chicago papers. Next? The ultra biased, SF Chronicle. Absolutely worthless.
I agree Annie. I gave up the LA Times a long time ago too, and I went down there and protested when they refused to release that Rashid Khalidi tapes. Traitor scum.
Good for you and may they burn in hell for keeping the truth under wraps.
I can’t wait until the day that tape is released. I doubt anything would have stopped the Fraud Express from steamrolling into the White House. But little by little the Bots will be forced to swallow the information they were robbed of.
Amen, Annie - it serves them right. If they are choosing to hide important stories, they deserve to go down…
This is a disgrace! Will anything be done about it? And we have the nerve to preach about election reform to other countries? We just elected a fraud for President.
Yes, they will be helping to count the US population in the 2010 CENSUS.
Translation: Camp OFraudo is training the ACORN scumbags about Census Fraud, just like their learned about Caucus Fraud and Voter Fraud in 2008. May they all go to hell soon.
The temporary jobs that we are paying almost one trillion dollars for? I find it odd and so convenient that this story breaks while he is in Europe…FraudObama, you can run but you cannot hide.
ACORN also received 7 billion dollars in the stimulus bill to help with (Mortgage Mitigation,” and organized the protest at the homes of AIG employees in Fairfield, CT. PEOPLE WAKE UP THE SA(ACORN or Hiter’s Police force until he dismantled them after taking power) ARE AT THE DOOR. THE REPUBLIC IS UNDER ATTACK FROM WITHIN.
Thanks, I thought it was Billion and not million. Thanks.
Great article Rev. Amy, concise as usual.
The NY Slimes … All The News That’s Fit To PrintWrap Dishes.
Now do you believe me when I think Obama aka Barry Soetoro is the ANTICHRIST?
First Bush as a cheat. Now, Obama. 2 Thessalonians 2 is upon us for real.
I am getting my gold and my guns.
If you go to Moncrief`s website she blasts the Sandler`s, Podesta, and Soros. Sounds like they all were in on it with Acorn to bring on the meltdown. I smell conspiracy. She even states that the hedge fund manager Paulsen, who made $1 billion last year on the crisis, contributed $15 million to Acorn. Plus Acorn is now in on the Give Act. How are we, the tax payers, getting bilked to have our money go to Acorn when they should be shut down. Republicans are gutless wonders, so are the moderate dems. The hedge funds conspired with the banks and Acorn to screw us all big time while Washington sits around intimidated to hear the word RACIST.
http://anitamoncrief.blogspot.com/
They are definitely in on it. And what I hear Felix Rohatyn is too.
This is the unfortunate end of the line for the NYT. They have been sinking for a number of years now ever since “Pinch” Sulzberger became publisher.
I saw him on Charlie Rose after the Judith Miller debacle. It was gut churning to watch him literally duck and weave in order to avoid answering Charlie’s softball questions, disgusting.
I relied on the NYT for years to provide, at the very least, unbiased coverage - no longer. Sadly, the NYT has become just another corporate mouthpiece.
The attack on the “Fourth Estate” has been wildly successful - there is now no reliable free press in this country.
…and the beat goes on.
Excellent piece RRR Amy.
Thank you for bringing this forward. The NY Times behavior (not to speak of BO’s and his campaign in bed w/ACORN) is outrageous. It goes against every democratic value and the principal “raison d’etre” of journalism.
Yep, the LATimes did democracy and teh american people a great disservice by withholding the video of BO in Rashid Khalidi’s party. You know, now that
people like Charlie Rose and Fareed Zakaria are trying to “rehabilitate”
Khalidi as “mainstream” why doesn’t the LATimes release the video already?
There is no Fourth Estate anymore. There are a few “reporters” who now and then behave like journalists and the rest, they are just
a band of propagandists….
Great post, well said. The criminals are at it again. And how sad that our print has ceded their responsibility. They use their position, as tv, to put forth their own biased agenda.
I stopped reading the Times and I’m sure many have, and so they deserve.
The news media are undoubtedly sitting on a lot of stories that reflect badly on the POTUS. I don’t know if any of them will see the light of day but if the POTUS becomes an undeniable embarrassment, I suspect some may come out eventually.
One tidbit that was tossed out by Politico and CBS News right before the election was about Obama’s daily 15-20 minute visits (more than once a day) to his staffer-without-a-job-description, former cop Michael Signator, who rented an apt. (while also owning a house farther away) near the Obama home. Neither media outfit saw fit to flesh out the story — they merely dangled the tantalizing tidbit — Who Is Michael Signator? My suspicion is that this story could use the service of a drug-sniffing canine.
That story on the mysterious Signator guy and his relationship w/the Obama’s was really very bizarre…
I wonder whether NoQuarter did a story on him or not…
RRR Amy, do you remember him?
Here’s the Politico link to Michael Signator, the mystery man:
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14713.html
Hey, Andy -
Yes, I believe NQ DID do something on him, but wouldn’t hurt to review his relationship with Obama.
THANKS!!
This woman passed on those donor records to the reporter of the NYT, so try as they might ACORN can’t deny that this happened.
This is a travesty, I don’t think anyone who subscribes to this rag should continue to do so.
The newspaper in our hometown has never been a giant and it’s pretty conservative, but it’s been around for more than a hundred years and it is a shadow of it’s former self. The classified ads are smaller than pages of legal notices. If we have to set aside a day to morn the demise of the major papers in the country, I hope an underground newspaper will be born from the ashes.
Pay attention to the publisher of your newspapers. Most are owned by the Tribune Company, as in The Chicago Tribune. I am lucky enough to have access to an alternative paper owned by McClatchey News Services. But this problem crosses all major media. They are controlled or owned by the same companies. If you want to see journalism, take a look at the BBC. Remember when the reporter told the truth regarding the outburst by Samantha Power saying Hillary was a monster. That reporter was condemned by American broadcast companies across the American medium.
Here is my impression of noquarterusa.net: “Whine whine whine. Cry cry cry. Everyone who doesn’t have a bizarre hatred of President Obama is BAD. Whine whine whine.”
RRRAmy - Thanks for another great article!
I was just searching the web for news coverage about this story and came upon this:
http://www.webcommentary.com/asp/ShowArticle.asp?id=gaynorm&date=090331
It’s a long read, but if nothing else, visit the above link and take a look at the email exchanged from NYT reporter Strom.
Hopefully this story will finally undo the cover up between BHO’s campaign and ACORN.
One can still “hope!”
They are essential ingredients in a rich, healthy society. ,
