A Love Affair Across the Pond
By pm317 on April 3, 2009 at 8:25 AM in Current Affairs, G20, PM Gordon Brown, President Barack Obama
Yes, this is not new. It used to be Tony Blair and George Bush and now it is, Gordon Brown and Barack Obama. The perfect pair of a lapdog and its master.
Here are some fun excerpts and pictures that prove my point, all from an article in the Daily Mail:

Oh Gordon, your smile! The Prime Minister, appearing alongside Barack Obama after breakfast today, stared at his American visitor and almost shattered the TV camera lenses with his moony grin.
You could have played Jewish harp with his lower lip, it was stretched so twangy tight.
Messrs Mills and Boon, when next looking for a book cover for one of their romantic novellas, when next seeking an illustration of doggy devotion, could do worse than use a photograph of the Prime Minister at the meeting.
Mills and Boon !!? I have not heard those names in 25 years. Are they still around?
What about this picture of Gordon’s moony grin?

and this one?
Mr Brown had by now turned his profile to us and it meant we could see the silhouette of his pouchy-cheeked, greedy grin.
His lips puckered, forming the shape of a robin’s beak, and he nodded slowly, repeatedly, at times even swallowing, so much was he salivating.
When he turned back to face us his eyes were narrow with creamy pleasure and he pushed forth his chin, stretching his lower neck.
Now he placed his hands behind his back and bounced a half inch or so on the balls of his feet, relishing the sound of Solomon Obama’s replies to a few questions from the Press. Those replies were, as I say, on the chewy side and came out at the speed of an action replay on Match of the Day.
And finally, this one.

Could someone photoshop this picture above to put Gordon’s arm around Obama’s waist, please?
But all is not lost for Gordon. The article concludes with this:
Our old donkey Gordon, by comparison to this American visitor, was for once Mr Eloquent, Mr Quick-Off-The-Mark.
Mr Obama had managed to make Mr Brown look good. Another amazing achievement.
There you have it. Read all of Quentin Letts hilarious but true article here. Letts makes Mills and Boon proud (not that I read any of them but just have a feeling).

I watched about 2 minutes of him in France at the town hall meeting and have come to the conclusion that he is campaigning for his next position………….leader of the world.
Gordon Brown is a real freakazoid.
For a shocker of a photo (NOT photo-shopped) click on the word “weird” in this post:
http://trackacrat.com/2009/03/05/yes-that-is-whence-i-descended/
And tell me what’s going on with his forehead…
It`s the mark of “The Beast”.
I agree — sure looks like some spooky baby horns are straining to break through.
It’s Obama’s makeup rubbed off from somebody else. From the color of the spot, it could be Obama’s makeup. Probably just trying to make him look warm and healthy.
That was a weird picture..
There welcome to keep him if they love him so much over there, then we can elect a real leader!
Sorry should read - “They are welcome — “
What’s with the crappy tailored suit on Obama? It looks like some old Bolshevik hand-me down.
Europe can keep Obama.
Hartmarx, of Chicago. The name will likely confirm your worst suspicions, though they cater to high-end capitalists.
But wait! I thought Obama was to be reviled because he thoughtlessly gave a poor gift to Brown, thus threatening our relationship with the UK and ruining our image in the eyes of the world! And now we are to revile Obama because Brown and Obama get along so well that it shows that there is no threat to our relationship with the UK, and he did not ruin our image in the eyes of the world?
What’s it going to be, NoQuarterites?
You are going to have a very, very, very long 8 years.
If only. We have likely elected our last President. Before the next eight years is up, there will be no more republic as we once knew it. Hope you like rice and beans, I mean really, really like them a lot.
I will save this as a prediction and will happily reserve it to you in 8 years. The last American President? Please.
You seriously think that if Obama is in office for eight years that we will ever have another free election for President of this United States? Or that we won’t have repealed term limits by then? What does the term “global justice” mean to you? To me, it means we should have no more than the poorest of the worlds poor. Redistribution has already started. Hope and change is just a euphemism for rice and beans.
Oversimplification on your part. 0bama treating another head of state badly is a window into his leadership and character and that was our complaint about the gifts and in this post sourcing the article, the complaint here is that the Brits are too servile. But as the article says in conclusion, 0bama made even this unpopular PM look better. All around 0bama is no good.
Brown is struggling for survival and is trying to play up to Obama because he’s seen as exotic and new and he wants a piece of the action. The photos above are truly cringe worthy though and ultimately embarrassing for all involved.
Looks like Bernard Goldberg may have yet another slobbering love affair book waiting in the wings.
Oh please…don’t the brain dead Bots know that there’s a difference between a photo op and truly governing. Fraudo is a one-termer, if that. He’s not the “King” he thinks he is and thisn’t a monarchy, dictatorship, etc. We’ll get him out of there legally and take America back. Guess the Bots are out in full force lately because they know that Flop-Obama is a joke and sinking fast.
I think you’re right. There was a lull and now they are worried and out in force.
Are you kidding? Obama’s approval ratings are still quite high, and the last I’ve seen, pretty steady. Meanwhile, there are all kinds of signs of the economy stabilizing, and the hundreds of billions in stimulus cash haven’t even hit yet. If the economy follows a normal recovery pattern, which given the stimulus boost strikes me as increasingly likely, Obama will be hailed as a hero and utterly invincible in 2012.
It’s so funny to see that you NQers still live in the same delusional world you lived in last year. Last year all us Bots were idiots and Obama was “unelectable.” Now anyone who supports him is still a Bot, and Obama is a failed, sinking president who won’t be reelected.
Dream on.
So why are you here? Go bask in the glory of your leader.
Obummer’s approval ratings right now are lower than Bill Clinton’s were at the height of the impeachment debacle. Just sayin’.
When you hate a guy that much it distorts your vision. Normal people see the president doing a good job. The haters see him failing at everything. They nitpick and disparage his every move and decision. They fail to notice that the opposition is weak and marginalized and who’s only hope is for the president’s polices to fail. They also fail to see the effects of that hatred on them and those around them. They cheer for criminals (Larry Sinclair)and racists (Andy Martin) that speak out against the president. They fail to notice that they are being cultivated as useful idiots to promote the hate and discord. They fall for every internet rumor against the president and still believe them even after they have been widely debunked. Ah yes, the next eight years will indeed suck if you are a ditto head or a Noquarterite.
Which part of That One is only concerned about himself and couldn’t care less about how he represents the United States are you failing utterly to understand, obamabot? Oh, he’s going to pay your mortgage. So sorry to rain on your parade, chump.
-Mr Obama had managed to make Mr Brown look good. Another amazing achievement.-
The Daily Mail article and the conclusion do not match up. The article should have been on how Brown was smiling and internally giggling BECAUSE Odumbo was making him look good.
Yup, that is Odumbo’s achievement in foreign policy, any foreign leader he stands next to, no matter how ill perceived domestically, will look good and shine politically next to the US faux president.
No, no it does. The conclusion is a concession to Brown at the expense of Obama (not really, Obama is really that bad). But the rest of the article is about the obsequiousness of the British PM toward the American President. In fact that is the point I mostly resent about British govt. Blair propped up Bush massively in the name of “they are our best allies.” Brown is doing the same. Grow some spine, Brits and stand up to this fake.
Oh, got it.
I’d like a link to that quote, please.
WMCB,
Here is the link to the Quote:

Just click on the various dates the quote was said for the newspaper links.
Thanks for cheering up my morning with lively Brit commentary. The plebe comments on the article are fun to read, too.
0zero did sound like he had a cold. Boo hoo.
Your post takes the sting out of the news that the Congress and Senate passing the HUGE 0zero budget. I hate to see what it will look like in the end. We’re screwed because it’s bad for the middle and upper middle class and for all our kids’ future debt.
He is so delicate, isn’t he?
Yep, Rough times for everybody. I have taken solace in mocking them and having some fun while doing it.
It’s always a pleasure to me to see how well informed Americans are about the UK.
Particularly when they recognize a leader as defunct as Gordo.
Would you have any confidence in a “leader” who does this (short video, well worth watching):
http://trackacrat.com/2009/03/25/mouth-breathing-is-efficient/
Thanks for the input, Track (straight from the horses mouth, as it were). I kind of feel sorry for him, though.
On another note, I have been itching to ask you this: Mills and Boon — why are they still around? While growing up (in India), they had a bad reputation for being glossy romantic novels that serious people like me (ha!) would not stoop down to read (that was like 25 years ago).
Last week, the story was that Obama had irrevocably destroyed the American-Anglo alliance. This week, the story is that Gordon Brown is too worshipful of the President. My, how things change!
yes, isn’t nice to have a wide range of voices on a site…freedom of expression at work.
Funny which stories strike a nerve over all the other stories.
Funny, you know like how a rhino will rush to stamp out a brush fire… and how bots rush to stamp out the man-love stories. Interesting at the least.
The only stampede I see here is the rush to snuff out the reality that if NQ predicts it, the counterfactual will occur.
that.s an insult to the SCOT.S
317, Mills and Boon is an ongoing mystery. One of my tutors at Oxford (sorry for the name drop) habitually had one lying on his desk. They’ve now moved into overt soft porn. I’ve never quite understood the point of soft porn, though…
I wouldn’t feel too sorry for Gordon Brown. He’s manipulated his way to the top and does not have a public mandate. He’s also the chief reason why the UK is the worst placed of all the advanced nations to weather this economic storm.
Marco Duato:
They are not mutually exclusive. President Obama’s insulting gifts are a sign that he does not value the special relationship.
That doesn’t preclude Gordon Brown from striving to maintain it and trying to improve his own dire situation by latching onto Obama’s popularity.
317:
Mills and Boon is an eternal mystery to me. One of my tutors at Oxford (sorry for the name drop) always had one on his desk. They’ve now shed the pretense and moved into soft porn novels. Never quite seen the point in soft porn, myself…
I wouldn’t feel too sorry for Brown. He’s manipulated his way to the top, does not have a public mandate and is the chief reason why the UK is the worst placed of all the advanced nations to deal with the economic crisis. Plus he’s Scottish.
Funny NQ just a month ago was crusified Obama for supposively insulting the British and Brown for cancelling a press conference and now you are critizing him for being too cozy with Brown. Typical NQ…. whatever fits the Obama slimming NQ narrative.
Actually Julie, there is no conflict within the general positions NQ, and posters, have taken regarding this discrete topic of press conferences. 0bama cancelled the customary joint press conference without giving a reasonable explaination for doing so. 0bama could not as easily duck out of the UK press conference because it was not on his turf. And judging by 0bama’s pathetic performance sans teleprompter (I’ve never witnessed such a blundering boob), it seems obvious why he should avoid all unscripted situations unless they’re absolutely necessary.
