The thing is that the GOP and the Obummer problem are interwoven. See, if the GOP hadn’t actively encouraged Republicans to go vote for Obummer in the open primaries and not said a word when Obummer’s campaign did that “Dem for a Day” thing where they registered Republicans for a day or a month as Dems to vote for Obummer, then he would not have gotten the nomination. The GOP is as responsible as the Obots for this know-nothing being in office. They helped, and managed to gracefully, sort of, pay off John McCain for years of service by letting him have the nomination when they knew he couldn’t win. It was Bush-backlash, but there was more to it than that. There was Hillary. Anything to stop Hillary. Well, they stopped her.

I understand that and I’m sorry for both sides that it happened. I would have still voted for McCain, but I would have been fine with Hillary. We ALL got deprived of a real election and debates between two solid candidates. Instead we got this media blast and assaulted with this incredulous Messiah stuff that I’m still laughing about. We had the Toga Party at Mile High, again RIDICULOUS and this whole thing has been one insult on intelligence, grace and dignity after another. McCain, Hillary, whatever. We would survive. Am I the only person who does not believe that guy stole a plane in Canada to “commit suicide”? My alarm bells went off big time. I think he was strictly testing our defense systems to see if it could be done. He supposedly has no known terrorist ties (how comforting that he hasn’t done anything yet), so he would be the perfect choice to take on a mission like that with the perfect excuse. This is just so insane. She’s ordered deported. She appeals. Looses on appeal and is ordered deported immediately, for a second time. She absconds and so becomes a fugitive. Then she’s traced down four years later by a British journalist. In the meantime, she’s gotten public housing and a social security card. Now she gets lawyers and once again makes a petition for asylum. And the same judge to whom she gave the middle finger twice before, now gives her a year more to make her case. If this is not a travesty and slap in the face of the thousands of legal immigration applicants waiting patiently in line for years, then I don’t know what is.

Her legal situation and her relationship to the President are very widely known. It is impossible for her to return to Kenya is a state of anonymity.
We simply cannot deport a person related to a seated President could very likely become someone’s high-value, high-profile political hostage immediately upon her return. To do so would be flat-out stupidity.

That an immigration judge agreed to reopen the case after she had “absconded” from the original deportation order (absconded as used in the immigration sense does not mean hiding, just not complying with th order), is astounding. That a hearing on the merits was set for 2010 is not at all surprising given the crowded dockets of most immigration judges, but if they really wanted to lower the hammer, the immigration judge would have reconfigured his schedule to give this case an immediate hearing. The poster who said that she was stalling for legalization may be pretty accurate. To be granted asylum, she must establish that she would likely suffer persecution at the hands of the government in Kenya or from persons that the government controls or is unable to control, and that the persecution is based on certain political or social grounds, and that there is no part of the country in which she could be safe. She would also have to prove that the country conditions for the likelihood of such abuse have changed very drastically (for the worst) since she was initially denied asylum.
I think what has changed for the worse for her regarding residence in Kenya is that she’s now widely known to be the aunt of a United States president. He has acknowledged an emotional connection with her, unlike his obscure Kenyan relatives.
She’s no doubt attempting to exploit the situation, but that’s beside the point. We shouldn’t knowingly create a situation that could allow someone outside the country to put personal pressures on a seated President. Why take the unnecessary risk?
If he had any emotional connection to her, he would have stepped in long before she had to go on the lam and on our welfare system. He could have simply sponsored her into the country. Of course, he would have had to guarantee that she wouldn’t end up on public assistance by giving or getting her a job, or supporting her himself. So, can the crap about his “emotional connection” to her. He has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he has none, or if he does, he refuses to act on it. Kenya is currently politically unstable. Just last year 1300 people died in post-election violence. Politics divide along tribal lines. Auntie is the member of a minority tribe. She also has the good fortune–or misfortune–of being widely known as the President’s aunt.
I suspect that if Barack Obama were not involved–if we were talking about a similar situation with some other seated president–you might be more inclined to look at the question more as a common-sense security issue. Generally, we try to shield our presidents from such concerns as the safety of family members, wherever practical.

Well his half brother is still in Kenya. Has he been persecuted, kidnapped, held for ransom or used to extort anything from Obama or America? Last I heard he was busted for drugs but no news that his life is in danger because he’s related to Obama.
If he’s safe, then his Aunt should be fine too. And if she left when she was orignally deported 4 years ago, she could have returned home and petitioned to come to America legally. And if she had done so, she could be living her just fine and legal by the time her nephew became President.
As someone who worked for a Section 8 Housing Authority, I know all residents are checked for citizenship and income. She would not qualify for housing benefits as an illegal immigrant, so she’s living with someone who is collecting benefits (but has not declared her to the Housing Authority) which is another law broken. All parties involved should be investigaged by HUD for Section 8 housing fraud.

It is this type of situation the founders had in mind when they wrote Article II into the Constitution. What is really stupid is the idea a US president could be blackmailed or extorted for any reason. I don’t know much about this woman’s history; When and under what circumstances did she arrive in our country? Why didn’t Obama act as a sponsor four years ago to enable her to receive citizenship since he certainly could have done so? What’s stopping him now? He is the president after all. Perhaps she embarrasses him or she may be too much a reminder of his roots and his place of birth. If she isn’t deported, that makes the INS look as though they’re playing favorites, which smacks of selective enforcement and really isn’t fair to all the others who are here illegally and get deported on a daily basis. Unless he is impeached and convicted, he will have a pension at our expense, and SS for ten years, unless Congress decides to extend him lifetime SS too. And he will go back to that mansion and live off the public tit for the rest of his life. You can’t get a deal like that if you are an actor or a musician.
