Chris from Chicago: Maybe you don’t remember that Fox served as the enthusiastic mouthpiece for ~~Inspector Javert’s~~ Ken Starr’s investigation. Fox brutalized the Clintons from the day the network launched. And having worked at Fox I know the criteria they use for hiring female on-air talent and contributors and how they’re encouraged to unbutton their blouses and show lots of leg on air. But I guess pointing that out makes me a misogynist. I’ve officially gone through the looking glass.

Don’t worry, I won’t be watching. I’ve seen enough of what they call “news”.

1. When accused of being a right-wing propaganda outlet, change the subject by accusing your competitors of being left-wing. Just because MSNBC leans left doesn’t mean Fox isn’t right wing.
2. When all else fails, boast about ratings. Again, Fox’s strong ratings don’t mean the network isn’t right-wing or that their news is more accurate than on other news sources. It could be that their success is driven by their dumbing down of the news, their obsession with tabloid fare, their shameless exploitation of their cleavage-y and leggy blonde on-air personalities and their Manichean worldview.

Just because a lot of people love to listen to Rush Limbaugh doesn’t make him an oracle. He’s still the same sexist, bigoted hypocrite he was when Bill Clinton was in office.

You say that Fox is a right-wing echo chamber. Well, msnbc is a left-wing echo chamber. Pot meet kettle. Perception of bias depends on where you are on the political spectrum.

The Neilsen ratings in the 25-54 age group show Fox news beating msnbc by 3 to 1. Must mean there are a lot more conservatives out there than lefties–that, or a lot of viewers are moderates who perceive msnbc as more biased than Fox. Take your pick.

I disagree with the Lou Dobbs and Fox lovefest in this comment section. Dobbs engages in the crudest and most racist fearmongering imaginable night after night. And if ratings were a measure of seriousness in the news business then the falafel and loofah lovin’ Bill O’Reilly would be cable’s Walter Cronkite. Fox is a disgrace and CNN and MSNBC are clown shows. And let’s not forget that Fox still prefers their female on-air personalities young, blonde and dressed like $2 hookers. Watching that channel is a degrading experience all around.

I have been watching Lou Dobbs since he came to CNN.
He is erudite, he is fair, he is real and he surely is not afraid to say what is on his mind. He reports what is pertinent and stays away from the sensationalism. He does so, with class and integrity! Definitely one of a kind!

What Couric did to Palin is deplorable..
[I am not a huge Palin fan, she's a great lady, but definitely not ready for prime time]
All that notwithstanding, this new “Gotcha” style of journalism is out of line, especially when it is so very “selectively” applied!
That Couric got a prize for it is downright disgusting!

You’re spot on. I get my news from foreign sources and NQ, as well. If I am going to listen to opinion, I want to be sure it is reasoned. Here at NQ it is. The local news is the only on-air news I listen to and then only up to the point where they start the claptrap about That One or interviewing some local obamabot. My remote gets a good workout, as a consequence. I truly hope all the news networks go down as they are nothing more than useless backfill anyway, possessing only a passing knowledge of journalism, tinted yellow.
