‘Fess up now. Who among you didn’t feel a twinge of hankering for the romance of the high seas and marauding pirates of yore? Huh?

Then there’s nothing quite like the national unity that comes from all of us rooting — for once without any discord (!) — for the good guys, a brave captain, and our utterly brilliant and incredibly skilled SEALs. Wow.

One of the local newspaper forums here in PA has a poster that hates Obama so much they are now blaming him for any hostages deaths that might occur in the future since the shootings have infuriated the pirates. Sad when you are that twisted that you can give credit where credit is due. Obama allowed the system to work and it worked well. A small victory to be sure but after Bush’s failures in Iraq and Afghanistan it’s one America needed.

This should read, can’t give credit, sorry ’bout that.

MrMike – Are you an Obama supporter?

Comment by MrMike | 2009-04-16 11:31:48

I would rather soak my privates in gasoline and light them off than vote for Obama. What Obama, Dean and Pelosi did to my party is unforgivable. Last November is the first time in my life I voted for a republican. Being that it was John McCain and Sarah Palin made it easier. I would have stayed home if it were any of the other candidates on the R roster.
Now, all that being said, Obama had the good sense to allow the system to work without interference. For that he gets credit. As Larry said, he would get the blame if Captain Phillips perished so it’s fair he get some, not all, of the credit. My comment is for some that are so blinded with hatred that they can’t give him an attaboy however small.

Comment by Arabella Trefoil | 2009-04-16 11:42:30

MrMike – I agree with your sentiments. My radar is oversensitive to the words “sad” and “pathetic.” Sorry if I inadvertantly offended you!

I stop at the “attaboy” for Obama, though. If Obama were left to his own devices, his famous indecision would have turned this into a bigger tragedy than it already was. I give SOS the props!

I am shocked that Obama and his minions didn’t find an element of grandstanding in all this. I’m waiting for the Obama trolls to talk about how tea is connected to slavery on tea plantations, and that somehow middle class Americans have disrespected and co-opted the issue of slavery to suit themselves … uh no. Doesn’t work. But pretzel logic is not a challenge for Obama and his supporters.

Comment by churl | 2009-04-16 14:45:49

Amen, brother. What everyone needs to keep in mind is Obama essentially did nothing. The military pulled this off. If Bush The Lesser Chimpanzee had been in office, he would have done the same thing. This decision is an absolute no brainer. I said to my domestic supervisor two nights before the rescue, “Get four snipers and let them solve the problem.” Gee, does no one watch cop shows?

So let’s not give Obama any more credit than we would give Bush. (Ya know, if it had been an Iranian hostage rescue mission, the story may have been different.)

Comment by I'mFedUp | 2009-04-16 14:51:40

Obama’s lack of action almost caused a death. I can’t believe the Stoner in Chief gets props for the SEALS doing their jobs. Never mind the fact that the poor Captain had to jump ship because he knew no one was coming to get him. (His own words). If this was Bush, people would be SCREAMING that he didn’t handle it better. But the Fraud gets a free ride because he’s on training wheels…in other words, no one died, so he gets a pat on the back. That Captain had an AK-47 pointed at his head. And Obama gets praise for doing what any decent American, never mind President, would do. Plus, the Navy didn’t need his orders at that point. An American was about to be shot.

I am proud of our Navy SEALS. That is one of the toughest programs in the military. I also gives props to our Sec of State who understands the complexities of world government.

Good work all around!

We do like to romanticize about the pirates of yore.
However, they didn’t have cell phones or cameras back in those days so I’m sure they were among the most savage and inhuman of all scum on the planet.

The reason everyone is so angry about Iraq all the time is that they saw the daily litany of bombings brought to you by the anti-American sensationalized news outlets.
An NQ regular said recently that we need to stand up for the constitution and live as our forefathers did…

Our forefathers were among the most brutal whether in this country with slavery and the genocide of the Indians or elsewhere in the world with pogroms and holocausts.

My prediction and it’s a long shot…

The camera, cell phone, digital, and satellites may be the mechanism for ending all war on this planet.

Well folks, we’ve got what Rush Limbaugh said on the air yesterday. Here it is, verbatum, from the transcript on his own website:

RUSH: “You know what we have learned about the Somali pirates, the merchant marine organizers that were wiped out at the order of Barack Obama, you know what we learned about them? They were teenagers. The Somali pirates, the merchant marine organizers who took a US merchant captain hostage for five days were inexperienced youths, the defense secretary, Roberts Gates, said yesterday, adding that the hijackers were between 17 and 19 years old. Now, just imagine the hue and cry had a Republican president ordered the shooting of black teenagers on the high seas. Greetings and welcome back, Rush Limbaugh, the Excellence in Broadcasting Network and the Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.

“They were kids. The story is out, I don’t know if it’s true or not, but apparently the hijackers, these kids, the merchant marine organizers, Muslim kids, were upset, they wanted to just give the captain back and head home because they were running out of food, they were running out of fuel, they were surrounded by all these US Navy ships, big ships, and they just wanted out of there. That’s the story, but then when one of them put a gun to the back of the captain, Mr. Phillips, then bam, bam, bam. There you have it, and three teenagers shot on the high seas at the order of President Obama.”

It makes me very sad that some seem to be promoting the divisions in America more than they’re promoting America itself. It makes me wonder how we’ll ever find our common ground again. I like to think that most well-meaning Americans would like to do that, whichever side of the political divide they’re on.

Comment by wodiej | 2009-04-16 13:18:49

I heard the first portion in his program, not the second one. Not saying he didn’t say it but too often people take bits and pieces of comments which make them sound completely different than how they are meant. Or they just don’t play the entire soundbyte.

Not sure what your point is. Obama supporters want to give Obama credit for this but are upset because Rush Limbaugh said 3 teens were shot in the back of the head by order of Obama.

I am a person of values and will never support Obama-EVER. He is dividing the country, not the citizens. It began when he played the race card. How many times do we have to have this discussion??

Comment by cynic | 2009-04-16 13:36:04

Here’s the transcript on his own site:

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_041409/content/01125110.guest.html

I realize people may have different interpretations and draw different conclusions.

Comment by cynic | 2009-04-16 13:50:09

My problem with this is that in the days before in Limbaugh Land, the pirates were terrorists who had brazenly attacked an American flagged ship and were now holding its American captian hostage, while an ineffective, Muslim-sympathetic President Obama failed to take decisive action.

Then we have decisive action authorized by that President, and the captian is freed.

So now, Limbaugh says, the President has authorized the cold-blooded killing of teenagers who only wanted to go home. What, he asks, would people have said if a Republican president had done such a thing?

Don’t you find anything odd about this shift?

The operation was in the hands of the Navy Seals and success or failure had nothing to do w Obama. They did not need his authority to proceed.

Blind hatred for Obama? Some do hate him but I don’t think it’s blind. They can detail why they don’t like him.

Comment by I'mFedUp | 2009-04-16 12:57:51

Correctamundo Wodiej. I can’t believe the Fraud got credit for just doing his job. And actually really not even doing it. If someone had died, it would have all been Bush’s fault.

I hate Obama. With a passion. I know damned well why. He hates America and is destroying it. Good enough reason for me, and it sure as hell isn’t “blind hate.” I can see clearly what that azzhole is doing to us and I’m outraged.

Comment by jwrjr | 2009-04-16 14:27:28

If Obama had the sense to get out of the way and let the professionals do their jobs, then he gets credit for that … and nothing more.

While there has been much outrage about the Somali pirates hijacking ships and taking hostages…there is something a lot worse than that going on that the Somalis are doing to their own helpless female children. A reported 90- 98% of Somali females have suffered the abuse of genital mutilation. This abusive procedure is still being carried on in the Somali immigrant communities in the US and in Europe. Although this abuse has been made illegal in the US and in Europe..the government in this country seems to be content of look the other way and not defend the children from this abuse. Why no outrage about this? This is happening to children in this country:

Female circumcision, which is done for various reasons, supposedly for religious and cultural traditions, can cause severe health complications including infections and psychological problems. The procedure, predominantly carried out on girls aged between 5 and 12, can range from the removal of the clitoris to the removal of all the exterior parts of the vagina, which is then sewn up.

To understand it fully, I recommend you read Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s book, Infidel, in which she describes how the procedure traumatized her and her sister.

Comment by wodiej | 2009-04-16 13:42:05

that’s disgusting. People who have this pie in the sky mentality of “why can’t we just all get along” don’t understand that there are some people in this world who are JUST PLAIN EVIL. They either have no concept of right and wrong or just don’t give a shit. Should we hold their hand and say “oh well, everyone’s different”-HELL NO. That’s just plain stupid. Of course if it was them or someone they care about directly affected by these evil people, I’m quite sure their outlook would change dramatically. It’s just unrealistic.

Comment by I'mFedUp | 2009-04-16 13:56:08

BARB…They do the female circumcision in OUR COUNTRY too. Tons of it. It’s a really big disgrace. We need to stop it here but they hide behind their religious rights.

In America it’s acceptable to routinely mutilate the genitals of male infants. It’s very common. Most men have had that done to them.

That doesn’t make it right to ignore another abusive procedure that in some cases cuts away all the parts of a females’ genitalia and then sew her up..with just enough opening left for urination and menstrual flow. I am sure that if the procedure which male babies(more parents now are opting out of) undergo was made illegal….the laws would be strictly enforced…instead of ignored as in the case of Somali (and other African) females.

Comment by Nobody asked me about it! | 2009-04-16 16:23:35

I didn’t suggest this did make it right. I find the practice barbaric and an outrage. I was making a point about cultural blindness: We are not immune. To some things we are also blind.

Comment by lorac | 2009-04-16 21:42:01

It is done today to boy infants for health and sanitary reasons. More significantly, the boys do not lose their ability to enjoy sex when they are mature.

When this procedure is done to females, they lose their ability to enjoy sex. It’s all about mutilating female bodies and controlling their sexuality.

I highly doubt this would be done to boys if it removed their ability to engage in and/or enjoy sex.

That’s why I believe it should be called genital mutilation, not “female circumcision”, because it’s not the same thing. At all.

I just read a book about modern day piracy a few weeks before this episode. I never heard before about the dangers out there on the sea. I live in Colorado, so it is all pretty removed from my life. One phrase I remember from that book is about how if there were hijackings on land where hundreds of millions of dollars of goods were stolen, there would be hell to pay. If cars or trains were being hijacked every day and people killed or held hostage, it would not be a secret.

Apparently this is a huge problem, not just in Africa, but even off our coasts, and the media and to a large extent the government ignore it. These guys take entire ships full of goods and sell them on the black market, then either sell or abandon the ship. They either kill or release the crew, depending on who the priates are. They are not backwoods, old style pirates. They break into websites that track each ship and are able to decide which ship is most likely to be profitable and determine when would be the best time when the target is least protected. I don’t know if those pirates off Somalia do that, but apparently there is technology to do so.

It seems just wrong that this is going on all over the world and most of us never had a clue.

” Sad when you are that twisted that you can’t give credit when credit is due”
MrMike, I agree with you, but giving credit is two way street.Have patience and read some others opinion too.COTE; The ” Navy” that was able to respond in the Indian Ocean was a navy created by the Bush administration. While Bush may not have maintained a large a navy as I would prefer, he kept our seaflering capabilities at a high level. Barack 0bama wants to devastate the navy, and reduce our fleet to a handful of tugboats and dinghies.COTE
So, MrMike, you are right. When credit is due is due, even you dislike the person who deserve it. One more thing. You didn’t stop bashing Bush. True, he had his fault and we all know it. But nobody ever can acuse him, he didn’t love his country.

Comment by I'mFedUp | 2009-04-16 14:58:08

Lisabona is right. Bush loved this country, despite his mistakes, often which belonged on CON-gress but he got blamed. We’re still here though. Now we have an America hating incompetent. Much worse. Much, much worse and destructive. In 6 months, the Bush years will look like “the good old days.” And, yeah, while we are GOP bashing here, let’s DO give credit where it’s due. On BOTH sides.

Comment by listing starboard | 2009-04-16 15:48:14

There is one thing about Bush–I know who his parents, his grandparents are. I know they are Christian Patriots. I don’t know for certain basically ANYTHING about the parents of Obama.I can’t say with any certainty that he is a Patriot either. I can say the as far as defending women the christian religion does a far superior job to Muslim relgion. I fear for my daughters with Obama in the White House. I did not ever vote for the Bushes, but I would rather have either one now than Obama.

Comment by trixta | 2009-04-16 20:47:06

Except that GWB eviscerated our Constitution and looted our Treasury. Obama, his Janis-faced twin, is extending Bush’s policies and destroying what is left of this country and the Constitution. Both are traitors to this great country and are the scourge of our time.
