Lieberman Opportunity Fire On Torture Memos
By John Batchelor on April 22, 2009 at 8:30 AM in Bush/Cheney, CIA, NQR Live Chat, Nocturnal Warrior, President Barack Obama, Torture
Is it a coincidence that Joe Lieberman of Connecticut opens fire on the Torture Memos imbroglio at the same time as Dick Cheney? No. Both unchained pols were given a free shot by the POTUS trip to the CIA yesterday in order to explain, explain, explain the release of the memos. The Obama administration has created a problem where a problem didn’t exist. POTUS was not elected to clean up or otherwise rehash the Bush administration. POTUS was elected to clean up and rehash his own administration. Why did the Obama administration pick this fight? Naive? Nah. The Left? Nah. Aggression? Yes. This can only be part of the overall theme to seek peace with the Ummah.
The memos are not about torturing criminals. They are about torturing jihadists. Now the Obama administration has a fight with the political apparatus that remains at war with the jihadists. Who will win? The Obama team. For now. CIA author Bob Baer on TV via Skye (left) added a caveat. “…if we’re attacked again, this president is going to be faced with the same decision, do we use abusive interrogation techniques?…”

I agree, because this had nothing to do with finding out that we tortured and he already claimed he would not seek prosecution of those who ordered or did the torturing that we already knew took place.
A mere political act to deflect the heat he was under for all the other Bush policies he campaigned against that has been continuing and expanding upon. Rinsed, repeated, used our security, our CIA and their members as politial pawns.
Obama is getting spookier and spookier everyday. Obama’s actions seem to be to only be to endear himself to leaders who are not or never will be supporters of American ideals. At the rate Obama is going so far, our national debt will make our American currency worthless and make even more enemies from around the world for our country. But what I fear most is that Obama is going to get America tested in worse ways than 9/11.(Biden probably knew more than he is telling when he gave that warning speech about 6 months into Obama’s term).
seriously, I cant’ stand George Bush and Cheney, but all this talk of prosecution is just PR in my opinion. The Democrats had the chance to prosecute them through impeachment. Even several Republicans wanted impeachment, but the Dems refused. They wanted to let Bush do his worst so they would have a better chance in the ‘08 election. So far, Obama isn’t doing much better. So this is all just hype.
I say, let’s prosecute the Obama officials who are letting all the illegal Mexicans in the country. Those people are definitely terrorists. The Mexican drug cartels are killing Americans with abandon and I don’t see any push from Obama to secure the border and deport illegals. No, he wants to amnesty all of them.
According to the Glen Beck Show the Mexican Cartels have also made Phonenix the 2nd highest city for kidnappings in the world. Notice I said world. The cartels are destroying our country, but that is probably the least of it for illegals.
The illegals use over 1/4 of the state funds in the border states such as medical, food stamps, educational programs and etc. No wonder Calif is going bankrupt.
….Assault Weapons backrack “I was running for president, there you go”-Obama.
i was just thinking this morning if Obama does choose to prosecute over this, he better be willing to face prosecution when the next president is sworn in.
Obama has extended the illegal wiretapping, rendition, and one can only assume that in afghanistan (where the renditions are taking place) things are/will happen that the Obama administration can be prosecuted for.
And perhaps he can face prosecution for robbery! haha
Also, he better be willing to prosecute Dems, and maybe even Clinton administration. Didn’t some of these things actually begin under CLinton after the Cole and WTC bombings?
I think he was wrong to release the memos. Post 9/11 we were not ourselves.
And that is why. He plans on expanding his power. Already signaled that Americans cannot sue for illegal spying and wiretapping domestically. REALL? U are above the law? I don’t think soooo.
Fidel Castro says Obama misinterpreted his brother’s remarks:
Former Cuban President Fidel Castro said President Obama misinterpreted remarks by his brother and successor, Raul, and bristled at the suggestion that the island should free political prisoners or cut taxes on remittances from abroad as a goodwill gesture to the U.S.

Interrogations Prevented Los Angeles Attack
If you live in L.A. and didn’t die in a terrorist attack, you may owe it to the CIA’s use of the “enhanced interrogation techniques” that are currently under fire from Obama and his left-wing constituents.
In a compelling Op-Ed in Tuesday’s Washington Post, Marc A. Thiessen disproves Barack Obama’s hollow claim that such techniques “did not make us safer.” Rather than following the MSM lead and merely parroting the Obots talking points after the release of previously-classified memos this week, Thiessen actually examined the documents.
Thiessen concludes that Obama’s contention is “patently false. The proof is in the memos Obama made public — in sections that have gone virtually unreported in the media.”
“…that have gone virtually unreported in the media.” No surprise there. The legacy media has proved to be singularly un-inquisitive when it comes to facts that get in the way of Obama talking points.
Thiessen specifically refers to a May, 2005 memo regarding two top al Qaeda operatives, Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah:
“the CIA believes ‘the intelligence acquired from these interrogations has been a key reason why al Qaeda has failed to launch a spectacular attack in the West since 11 September 2001.’ . . . In particular, the CIA believes that it would have been unable to obtain critical information from numerous detainees, including Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM) and Abu Zubaydah, without these enhanced techniques… Before the CIA used enhanced techniques … KSM resisted giving any answers to questions about future attacks, simply noting, ‘Soon you will find out.’”
But once the enhanced techniques were used, “interrogations have led to specific, actionable intelligence, as well as a general increase in the amount of intelligence regarding al Qaeda and its affiliates.”
In other words, the techniques worked when previous interrogation methods had failed.

HARP…I live in LA. And I am grateful for whatever our military and the past administration did to keep me safe. I don’t want to die for phony moral indignation.
“POTUS was not elected to clean up or otherwise rehash the Bush administration.”
I suspect there are many voters who would take exception to this. It was precisely the arrogance of the Bush administration that allowed many people to vote for a man of dubious competence to replace Bush. They deluded themselves into believing they were “fixing” what Georgw W. Bush broke.
None of the Bush administration officials will ever face charges. Like almost everything else Barack Obama says, this is just window-dressing; a chance to grab another headline and delude the voters a little more.
Put your left foot in
Take your left foot out
Do the hokey pokey, and shake it all about.
BO jumped on to the headline express with no intention of involving himself in this matter!
Additionally, his team of deficits can’t handled the urgent matters we face now, let alone peddle backwards!
Millions of illegals work for honest employers who with hold Federal payroll tax and SSI tax money from their weekly paychecks. Those illegals will NEVER collect back on Social Security and they do not file for refunds from the IRS. Employers match the SSI with held. (7.5%) This is free money to the US Treasury. Why is this not acknowledged? The US Treasury is getting a very big free infusion from the illegals.
I meant this as a reply to Confused American up thread. And the reason Calif is bankrupt is because of entitlements and prison unions. We have better and more modern prisons here than schools.
Also, the University system pays unheard of millions to the top administrators.
The Hispanic immigrants are a big boon to our economy.I applaud them.Calif agriculture would be dismal without our hardworking immigrants.
Jo, I live in Los Angeles. You’re kidding, right? We should stop the illegals, send the ones back we can round up, and give the jobs they do (including the picking lettuce, etc.) to the people on welfare. That argument is ridiculous. Plenty of capable people, who CAN work, don’t. Because they wouldn’t take the jobs the illegals do. Too bad for them. Work is work. Those jobs should go to LEGAL Americans. Period.
Members of my family and in-laws did farm work or grew up farming.
Americans would do those jobs. Contrary to what the media says.
I grew up on a farm. My father and grandfathers were farmers. They never thought it was beneath them. Also, my step-grandson and his girl friend, both about 21, have been working on organic farms as farm hands for a couple of years and they love it.
They have learned all the ins and outs of farming and hope to be able to buy land of their own soon to start their own farm.
I think it is a good idea to get the people on wellfare to do the farming in place of illegals. I have been a democrat for 43 years but have never agreed with the size of the wellfare program.
The Obots would LOVE to have an AStroTurf wave of indignation resulting in a “show trial” of BushCo miscreants as a distractor while they pull two or three other shenanigans. A PR “Teller” to an Obama “Penn” if you will.
The Right is using the term Show Trial. I seem to remember one of these, led by some dimwits with hares in their trousers and a nasty little piece of work named Starr.
Us that the sort of SHow Trial of which they speak?
