The brutish answer is yes, George W. Bush is already in the dock, and with him Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, George Tenet, Porter Goss, John Ashcroft, Alberto Gonzales and their legal deputies. The Obama administration has opened the dungeon doors. The inmates have lawyers, sponsors and astonishing motives. The indictment, prosecution and condemnation of the Bush administration is the near term goal for the aggrieved. The long term goal is a searing self-righteousness. The Obama administration has willy-nilly moved into battle with the most partisan, best-armed, most ruthless part of the political apparatus that did not vote for Mr. Obama. The non-partisan voters will recoil and despair. It does seem overmuch to say that a civil war has started already. Perhaps what can be heard is the rattling up of the guns toward Charleston Harbor. Did the Obama administration have no other political course? The same question could have been asked of Jackson, Lincoln, TR, FDR, RMN before they picked fights they couldn’t finish. This will be remembered as an unforced error. Both sides will struggle relentlessly. Mr. Obama, having arisen as a healing element, has now let loose patricide. I e-mailed Carl Levin and told him that if they wanted to open this can of worms and make a mockery of 9-11 for partisan gain, then all those Congress and Senate people who knew and passed legislation to fund these programs should face the courts also. He e-mailed me right back an talked a partisan line. I replyed that my position still stood. They were and are as guilty as Bush and I wanted them behind bars along with Bush. You just can’t have it both ways. They either all go down or they are all given a pass. How quickly we forget the fear in this Country after 9-11.

Democratic complicity in Bush’s torture regimen

The Washington Post reports today that the Bush administration, beginning in 2002, repeatedly briefed leading Congressional Democrats on the Senate and House Intelligence Committees — including, at various times, Jay Rockefeller, Nancy Pelosi, and Jane Harman — regarding the CIA’s “enhanced interrogation methods,” including details about waterboarding and other torture measures. With one exception (Harman, who vaguely claims to have sent a letter to the CIA), these lawmakers not only failed to object to these policies, but affirmatively supported them.
Jay Rockefeller was one of the key Democrats briefed on the torture methods who never objected. But it’s far worse than that. In September, 2006, Rockefeller was one of 12 Senate Democrats to vote in favor of the Military Commissions Act, one of the principal purposes of which was to explicitly authorize the CIA’s “enhanced interrogation program” to proceed (even though it continues to be illegal under the Geneva Conventions). Thus, not only did Rockefeller remain silent when continuously briefed on illegal torture methods by the CIA, he then voted to legalize those methods by voting in favor of one of the most Draconian laws in modern American history. That law also retroactively immunized government officials from any liability for past lawbreaking.

I seriously doubt the Dems will go forward with a serious inquiry. I think this was political posturing to satisfy the Far Left clammering for revenge, and Obama and his inner circle realize what a hornet’s nest they’ve just jostled. Are they prepared to put Nancy Pelosi in the dock?
Somehow I doubt it, even though she’s denying that she ever heard of waterboarding before the fact. Though I hate the idea that the American government was involved in these activities, the time to address the issue was before Bush&Co left office. A repeat of the Nuremburg trials won’t serve the nation’s interests. And if the Republicans go down, the Dems will go down with them.
But hey, I’ve been wrong before. The more important thing is that we, as a country, reject these practices in the future. And think about why, at this moment, did Obama and his merry men decide to stir the controversy pot. I agree with Susan’s earlier statement: this crew of dedicated pols are masters of distraction. And what distracts better than stirring up the raw emotions of the public?
I think there is a two-fold purpose behind this. One, the distraction it creates (away from Obama’s real agenda), and Two, the upheavel it causes. It’s Obama’s Marxist Alinsky training at work.

And for the very reason you stated above, I simply don’t think Obama and his crew will pursue this. The Dems do not have clean hands. The calls for impeachment were out there when the Dems took over Congress 2 years ago. Pelosi immediately took it off the table. All this stuff [and more] would have come out then. I don’t trust either party, except in believing they will do everything to save their own behinds. And I also think there is only so much bloodletting a country can endure before bleeding to death. But the issue of torture/enhanced interrogation is one I strongly reject on a personal level. A lot of soul-searching is needed on both sides of the aisle. I hope to God the country rejects these practices in the future.

The polls have always been skewed in favor of Obama and that is the reason that this latest poll which seems to favour the republicans [ but i will qualify these as not-for-Obama] has me pleasantly piqued…

It was certainly considered torture when Japanese Officers waterboarded Americans during World War II. Many of those perpetrators were convicted to life in prison or hard labor.
What is good for others is good for us and what is wrong for us is wrong for others. If this is acceptable for us to do to our enemy, it must be good for them to do to us. Supporters of these techniques need to admit to themselves it is therefore also okay for American citizens and soldiers to be tortured if arrested or captured by another country.
We lead by example or not at all.
Then to top it off we gave Japan the money to build their country back up. If I remember right we have given many of our enemies the money to build back up their country. Where are they now that we could use some of that money.
They are in debt; they are holding US $ for stuff we bought from them and paid for in our shrinking $$. You might say they are underwater.
It would be hilarious if Barky ended up having himself investigated. What if they decide anyone who approved of certain bills was breaking the law and since he just voted as he was told, it’s possible he voted to approve an illegal act? That would be great to see Barky bring his own doom.

This sounds so Very Fishy for several reasons.
Its the ones in office that can suport or do these types of actions again. Technically its the ones in office that need to be removed so that it won’t happen again.
Most of the people out of office that supported this are in their 60s and 70s. That means these guys will probably not be in positions that will enable them to support or do these types of crimes again.
More than likey the reason behind this type of action is so that the elite Dems will not be harmed. Look at it guys. Those still in office who supported this type of interagation are alot of the elite Dems I think I heard that some Very Elite Dems suported this, especially right after 9/11.(I have a feeling that is all is revealed Peloski’s and Biden’s name will pop up). I will make a bet that over 50% (probably more than 75%)of the people still in office who supported this were Dems.
Obama was able to hide a whole lot of personal crap under the carpet during his campaign and he still is. So I would not put it pass his administration to make sure the Dem crap of those involved in this mess to be hidden, especially the Elite Dems involved.
Don’t forget Condoleeza Rice who personally approved waterboarding, and should be held to account.

I lived in LA during 9/11. We were so scared because of all the rumors regarding the port, airport Disneyland and etc. Where I lived was less than 5 miles from the airport and it was not a kewl time.
My son was at USC.

Yes I remember being in LA during 9/11. I was terrified. There have always been plots against LA, but that was the time I was really scared. That’s why I don’t get the loony left sitting around cooing at terrorists. Our lives changed irreparably on 9/11. To coddle those people makes me puke. What about all those Americans burned to death in the Twin Towers, Pentagon and on the plane that crashed. I think being burned to death has to come under some form of torture. Most of the families have never had closure because there was not even a small body part to bury.

I think we have to have a presidential level of decision making about interrogation tactics but our national policy should condemn it. When I first heard about waterboarding, I was definitely in the camp that this is torture. After reading the memos about how we actually carried it out—how far we took it—I am not so sure any more. If you have a physician present and you want to get information not death, then I don’t think so. If you read about what went on in Saddam’s prisons and what goes on now in Iran and 3rd world dictatorships, we really don’t know the torturing business. About the only real torture that goes on in the US is against women and children trapped in abusive relationships and some of that is pretty bad. There are no doctors standing by to revive the victims.
Well, let’s just investigate the Bush Administration and then to get even, the GOP can investigate many things Obama. Where to begin? That pesky birth certificate business of course, the Blagojevich mess, Tony Rezko and vertain Health and Human services board actions in Illnois. Sounds like fun. I think Barrakula won’t want any investigations. That is my guess. Or there will be an investigation and the findings will be: no wrong doing. Why? Paybacks are a bitch.
