It's Derby week, with the race on Saturday..don't forget now! Down here it's lovely summer weather already. In the 80's every day with cool nights.

Around here the method for getting rid of unwanted dogs is to take off their collars and drop them off somewhere. I have three dogs that were discarded like that. One was picked up by Animal Control and ended up in the shelter where I adopted her. The other two are gorgeous collies, a pair of litter mates, I think, who were dropped off on the road I live on. It's away from the main highway and after the dogs were running up and down the road for a couple of days, looking for their people, I got them to come to me and started feeding them. I have a fenced in farm and so they are happily romping around the place and sleeping inside at night. They spend most of their time outside, but come in during the heat of the day.

I also have barn cats and was worried that the collies might chase them, but they don't. They seem to like cats, nuzzling them and sniffing their butts. The kittens also like them, one likes to play hide and seek with them. It's very funny to watch. The kitten is also a bit too brave for her own good, one of her favorite play things is the tail of the horse that is turned out in the barn area. He is a 4 year old colt and doesn't seem to mind the kitten playing with his tail and climbing it.

The rest of the horses are out in their respective pastures, munching away on the great pasture we have here. They like to play with the collies too..it's funny, they race the dogs up and down the fence line. The dogs never win, but they seem to enjoy it..LOL. The vegetable garden is in and popping up like it's on springs. The peas and beans are doing wonderfully and the tomato plants already have blooms on them, future tomatoes. And the melons, watermelon and canteloupe, are doing very well too. I am going to have a wonderful fresh food summer, I hope. I designed the garden to be deer, horse, dog, cat and bunny proof. I enclosed it with horse wire, with a roof so the birds can't come and eat my produce.

So, that's what's going on down here in sunny Florida, at least in my little corner of it. Heh.

Thanks, IALT! I appreciate it! :-)

Lucky is such a cutie (aren't they all?). From the very first when they opened their eyes, he was the one peering up, all bright-eyed, like, "Hey! Watcha doin'??"

I'd love to keep one...We'll see!

It is very sad abt Ms. Saberi. Her parents must be beside themselves...

Hey, everyone!

Sorry I am just now getting here - I was out all day taking one of the dogs to the vet (Sweetie, who is having some aging issues), grooming Jordan (who has just abt finished shedding out his winter coat - gorgeous!), and running errands.

Good question abt Lucy and if she misses the other ones - the puppies were taken to a different location so she could stop lactating (the vet said there had to be a real break, because if she smelled them, saw them, etc., she would keep producing milk). When the three first returned , she wasn't thrilled, but now, as you saw, she is very playful with them. It is a blast to watch them all run around (and right this minute, Lani, Leila, and Lucy are all asleep on the same bed. Lucky is under our bed, his fave spot.).

I am glad they brought a smile - they sure do for us.

And yes, those polo ponies - what a tremendous heartbreak (and no DOUBT they are incredible athletes. For a horse to have to be very light on their feet, fast off the mark, cut and turn on a dime, AND be willing to push HARD against another horse, is mighty impressive.). You know the vets and the pharmacy are just sick abt this.

Dang Yankees. Getting swept by the Sox. Really?? Sigh...Oh - it didn't help that we had company from BOSTON Fri. night when the Yanks lost in extra innings...

Thanks for the video. Nothing more beautiful than well-loved puppies at play. Lucy looks great, perhaps relieved, ha, ha. Did anyone notice how she took to having her babies placed in other homes? Just curious if she understood and easily accepted that her brood was shy a puppy here and a puppy there. If I weren't a left coaster, I'd love to take the puppies. They would love to walk with me on the bridle trails off my property and Ginger (my golden retriever) would love them. Happy birthday!

I'm guessing the Yankees have been cursed instead as the Red Sox finally won the World Series a few years ago and shed that burden.

Welcome back RRRA and Happy Belated Birthday. The puppies are adorable. There is nothing better for the soul than watching young animals - horses, puppies, kittens, humans, etc. - frolicking and having fun. Kudos to you for rescueing Lucy and her pups.

The deaths of the polo ponies is heartbreaking. I have been keeping up with the investigation. Wild horse protection and horse rescue is one of my 2 passions, the other being my kids.

Take care and thanks for the puppy update.

RRRA,

Thanks for the video. Puppies are the first thing I try to find if I want a real deep down good warm feeling. I have two rescued "puppies" at my feet right now, ona at 120 pounds and one at 95 pounds. After two years the trauma the endured for a year still haunts them I think, so my husband laughs about always knowing where I am in the house because he can hear my ten feet walking.

Nothing can bring a smile the way puppies and babies do. Thanks so much! You are obviously a great grandma!

Oh, they're beautiful RRRAmy, and I loved the video! If I didn't already have 5 of my own, I'd adopt Lucky in a heartbeat. ;-)

Love the low country glimpse, too, actually, since my family is from there, and I spent a good deal of my childhood there. ;-)

The polo ponies deaths has been difficult for me to even read about, although I do, because I love horses, and it has broken my heart to think about their suffering. I can't even imagine what the team is enduring right now. We have annual polo matches here at a local farm and I've seen the team in matches several times. To think those gorgeous athletes--and they are the most incredible athletes to watch in action, and gorgeous animals--died from stupidity is agonizing to me.

Happy belated Birthday!

...are you trying to tug at our heart strings? Oh, when Lucky looks up to the camera (you), it felt like I was looking down on to her/him. I was wearing a huge smile. SOOOOO cute. Thank you.

Heart going out to Ms. Ruberi in Iran, she is in "bad condition" after a week of starvation.

Welcome back back Amy! It's gorgeous up "heeyuh" in Massachusetts too!
I can't believe how much the puppies have grown! What happened to those puggy helpless pups? They look so happy wagging those tails. Lucy is such a vigilant and attentive mother.

Aren't you going to keep at least one?

Lucy is a terrific mom. I forget how awesome puppies are. My big beautiful girl is spread across the foot of the bed -- 60 pound standard poodle rescue (yes, Barry, you too could have rescued a dog) who was abused in her previous home.

I think Janet N is about as dumb as a man! How's that?
