For Beauty Is God’s Handwriting

obamassignature

Horoscopes, astrology, numerology, palm reading, tarot cards (awesome though they are), tea leaves, sacrificial entrails, crystal ball gazing, scattering of bones, psychics, witchdoctors, etc, are all BS.

They may make for good plot devices, but as far as relevance to the real world goes? Right up there with “climate change.”

But handwriting. Now we’re talking.

Having always had pretty atrocious looking penmanship, I’m a firm believer in the old saying that ugly handwriting is inversely proportional to intelligence.

Exhibit A – This, to me, is the handwriting of a sure-fire future psycho. In fact, I’d lock the culprit up now, as whoever it is must be guilty of something.

Exhibit B – Above, on the other hand, is President Obama’s signature. And it is beautiful.

Too beautiful. S.Weasel has the measure of it.

The irony with Narcissists is that they actually do NOT like themselves, so they run themselves ragged trying to prove to others that they are worthy of admiration in order to dispell their true feelings of inadequacy. Every aspect of their public image has to be superlative, right down to a tirelessly practiced signiture, the sacred glory of his name made permanent.

Comment by oowawa | 2009-05-04 23:22:55

Very interesting comment, Andrew.

I was also interested in S. Weasel’s comment from the link Track-A-Crat provides above:

Whoa! Check out Obama’s signature. I don’t know what a handwriting expert would make of it, but you can take it from a graphic artist (um, that would be me): this is a signature that has been practiced and practiced and fussed over and tinkered with until it’s just the way he wanted it.

That agrees with your statement of a “tirelessly practiced signature.”

If I didn’t know anything about the person who inscribed that signature, I’d guess that it was a cartoonist’s signature–once again, something carefully practiced, kind of a trademark.

I’d be interested to hear an analysis from a forensic signature specialist from a crime lab.

Comment by andrew 191 | 2009-05-05 02:27:15

I’ve had his number for some time, and he hasn’t done, or said, a single thing that deviates from my firm belief thay he has the potential for being dangerously psychotic.

Most Narcissists are “outed” before they gather enough power to become dangerous, but a political party that placed winning an election over the concerns of our country, has paved the way for a pathological Narcissist to become the most powerful man in the history of mankind. Unless we have “Tea Parties” ten times the size of the last ones, and effectively neutralize movements like ACORN, we’re screwed. Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright will run the concentration camps. Al Gore will make sure we’re buried instead of cremated, so we’ll be human carbon sinks. In a way, it’s actually a much better future for the planet………if you’re a cockroach.

Well I say this is the symbolism post page, so I go and look at the links, and get to the pen pic page of obama’s personalized pen…and…

It looks like a picture of a bomb is on it – with his sig to the right – and there’s 4 reporters hovering over it taking pics of it on a desk.

LOL – It’s got a bomb pic on it…. rofl

Exaggerated first letters in a signature are often a sign of an over inflated sense of self, of puffery…

What is also interesting is that in essence, he has omitted the “A” in his first name..which leaves us with “Bank”
And also the very severe break of the “B” cutting through the “O” in his last name..

Come on are there some real hand writing analysis experts out there..and not just dilettantes like me…

I read his signature as Bank Obama..
must be some unconscious wish of his..LOL

Definitely the handwriting of a swaggerer. Can you imagine someone rising to the level of POTUS who will spend time perfecting something as superficial as handwriting?

One of my friends with a Phd in philosophy has one of the worst handwritings I’ve ever seen. One of her college professors gave her the usual A+ on one of her research papers, but with a note that read, “The handwriting is one of the worst. If you do this to me again, it will be an automatic F”.

That’s why many highly intelligent people have terrible handwriting – they are so busy getting their ideas down on paper they forget someone may have to read it.

When people taut 0’s “brilliance”, this is the kind of thing that makes me think it is overreaching. Brilliant people do not spend their time perfecting such things as handwriting – especially in today’s high tech world.

Comment by pm317 | 2009-05-04 23:27:16

“fussed and tinkered with” — he probably read a few handwriting analyses to know how it will be analyzed by his future adoring 0bots.

Your comment made me wonder, Fran, who actually does practice signatures? Well, young girls who are in love with some guy might practice writing their new wedded name in an imagined marriage with their dreamboat. Perhaps young Barry Soetoro was in the same dreamy state of mind when he pictured himself married to the Office of the President of the United States of America. Hmmmmm . . .

Comment by Ellen D | 2009-05-04 23:49:44

Ummm I’m from the time when you were taught a nice round hand in school. Everyone I went to school with wrote decently – I hope people don’t think we’re stupid.
On the other hand I have a nice practiced signature because I am an artist. But Barack’s looks like he is saying “I am the center of the universe”, with so much of the name inside the “O”.

Comment by oowawa | 2009-05-05 00:03:57

But Barack’s looks like he is saying “I am the center of the universe”, with so much of the name inside the “O”.

Yes Ellen, the everything contained in the O motif certainly is the focus of his familiar logo. If you take it to its abstract extreme, you get another amusing analog:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zodiac_Killer

I’m not implying anything here, but I guess this was another guy who was saying “look at me, I am the center of the universe.”

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2009-05-05 01:32:38

oowawa, …you did not go there…

I saw that O and not until reading your comment, did it dawn on me what the little x’s remind me of.

Creepy thing…

Comment by oowawa | 2009-05-05 09:59:01

Well yes, Teak, I’m afraid I did go there, and now, after a night’s sleep, I’m still weirded out.

Another association comes to mind: how much the O figure reminds me of a gunsight. Well heck, that’s just what the Zodiac signature always suggested to me. The Obama signature you provide in your “Handwriting Analysis” link downthread is even more reminiscent of Zodiac cross-hairs.

Comment by Portia Elizabeth | 2009-05-05 10:14:10

OMG! I thought of that, too. Don’t know what that says about me, but it does seem as if That One is obsessed with being the center of everything.

Comment by Katmoon | 2009-05-05 10:13:32

Ahh yep, first thing I thought of, lived in No. Cal. during this time. Also feeling creepy, but probably a tie together from the torture blog the other night, and not being able to sleep last night, so I watched Schindler’s List again. I am weary.

Comment by oowawa | 2009-05-05 10:53:29

Good morning, Katmoon. Yes, I was in NorCal at that time too. And well, since we’re having fun with the comparison of O’s sig to Zodiac’s sig, and he resemblance to a gunsight/crosshairs, here’s another amusing observation: on the signature above, consider the large O as a gun barrel. What’s in the middle of the barrel? A little bullet. What does the gun say? How about bam!

Comment by oowawa | 2009-05-05 11:46:33

A famous citation comes to mind:

If they bring knives, we’ll bring guns.

Now who was it who said that? Maybe that “bam” in the gun barrel was something thought-out and practiced . . .

Ahh, that’s the thing, we’ll never have a real O sig, he’s spent a million plus or whatever to lock up every scrawling he ever committed in delicto prior.

We had a college professor of Eighteenth Century English Lit whose handwritiing could not be read by regular people. Those of us who wanted to read the comments he wrote on our papers would have to make an appointment so he could read them to us. It was that or try to get a pharmacist to read them. His comments were always quite valuable insights that could help us write our ideas better or help us fill in ideas we needed to incorporate into the paper.

O’s is definitely a creepy signature. Is that for real? Does he really sign things that way? Unbelievable.

Comment by SiliconDoc | 2009-05-05 06:42:25

Uhhh, you made it sound like you maybe thought he did have some brains. That’s too bad.
Anyway, all I see in his sig is a ZERO.
I can just imagine the odroolers around him after he signs their campaign work notepad – “Wow … ahhh.. I’m in heaven, that is sooooo beautiful, you know we need to replace the flag with that it looks so much better than that sacriligious $%@&$&$%&..”
So they did, they designed their odum sign from obots sig.

Wouldn’t making the first letter of his first and last name like that, mean that he has an overblown opinion of himself. Like we didn’t already know that. It seems to say…Look at me!…I’m very important! I don’t see anything beautiful about his signature at all.

Comment by lorac | 2009-05-05 00:04:04

Someone (maybe on the linked site) said the bisected “O” in his name was feminine – to me, maybe an “O” would be related to the feminine, but its being bisected seems more like a cancellation of that, like a stab through it. But I noticed, where the “b” in Obama meets the top of the “O”, it’s like the Christian cross.

And it seems weird, that the first letters of each name are soooo large – like a leading way to say “here I am!”, but the rest of the letters in his name, the details are small, like more hidden. Sort of like him – he’s everywhere, on TV almost every day, and yet we don’t know the details of him….

Comment by oowawa | 2009-05-05 00:16:39

You make some really perceptive & fascinating points, lorac. But to tell you the truth, I am literally getting the creeps thinking about this, with cold chills going down my spine. I’m going to go to bed & get warm, and maybe think about it again in the morning . . .

Comment by politicalidentitycrisis | 2009-05-05 00:15:08

Hmmmmmm. I may just practice that signature over and over myself. Yes. I have this idea. I would then write a letter of resignation and sign it with that signature. Ok, kidding, but that is a fantasy scenario to see a lovely worded letter of resignation, with that signature. Obama would finally have earned my respect and I would finally agree with something he is doing.

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2009-05-05 00:40:41

I do not know about anyone else, but the little ‘x’ at the beginning of the first name ‘B’and at the top of the O are very unsettling.

Comment by Tuppence411 | 2009-05-05 12:33:04

LOL. When I was in 4th grade, the boy next to me in math class would doodle naked pictures. (When he moved on to drawing full grown male penises, my little 11 year old girl self had quite enough. My hand shot right up “Teacher!”) Betcha that boy’s signature has lots of “artistic” flourishes too. Now we know what Barky did during math class!

Comment by Palm Tree | 2009-05-05 09:53:34

The gigantic and seemingly elegant “B and O” look like an elaborate front for the smallness that lies behind them.

Comment by Mercedes | 2009-05-05 10:00:04

Handwriting analysis is definitely an art and not a science, but, nevertheless, can provide a lot of insight and warning signs. I went to a parochial school where one of the priests was a certified graphoanalyst and supposedly a consultant for the FBI. He ingrained the fine art of handwriting analysis into all of his students. As a result, I consider a copy of a person’s signature and handwriting an indispensable part of their personal credentials.

Obama’s signature to me also seems clearly to be that of a narcissist. You see a heart shape and that embracing bubble there. He clearly loves himself. There may other symbols for other conditions that at least one of the commenters suggested. It’s not nonsense. Take a look at the signature of Aleister Crowley, the Victorian practitioner of the black arts and satyr. His “A” is formed with two large curly-cues on either side and an engorged, overblow stem. Symbolic? Yeeessss. Then there is the muddy, splotchy signature and handwriting of John Edwards. If a person were inclined to accept some of the generalizations of graphoanalysis, they would not be surprised in the slightest by Edwards’ current circumstance.

One thing to consider, though, is that while you may be able to identify a raving lunatic by his handwriting, you probably can’t identify a psychopath. Their handwriting may appear as normal as their outward behavior.

Comment by knotfourhymn | 2009-05-05 12:46:19

I had a chance to compare my signature from 1988 to about 2002, and it was interesting how my penmanship had “decayed” over the fourteen years; the old version was definitely more legible. (I blame it on fourteen more years of paying bills…)

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2009-05-05 13:17:35

Wow! I wonder if the Prez went to a graphic artist for suggestions on that signature. Talk about stylized. What’s with the lower case “b” intersecting the globe-like “O.”

You can’t tell me this isn’t deliberate. Either that or my skepticism about handwriting analysis just went up several notches.

Bizarre! Even scary.

Comment by Portia Elizabeth | 2009-05-05 13:47:51

Take from this what you will, but I just googled handwriting samples and came across samples from Charles Manson. Oddly enough, he used oversized caps and employed the trick of surrounding some of the letters of his name with the beginning caps.

Comment by oowawa | 2009-05-05 14:22:43

Oprah does something similar with her “O”

One World? A sort of new age symbol of the earth?

Comment by oowawa | 2009-05-05 15:28:40

“One World,” well there’s a valid association, Doc. It makes me think of the campaign art that featured O in a “one world” motif–for example:

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WkA8USJcfPw/SRe_mN92OZI/AAAAAAAAAPc/YocsAhTCT5M/s1600-h/Untitled-1.jpg

Also, in comparing Obama’s “O” to Oprah’s, I notice how Oprah’s “O” is an oval, whereas Obama’s is very symmetrical, as if it were drawn with a compass. The long stem of the “b” bisects the center of the “O” very precisely. It’s hard to rapidly draw such a symmetrical O, for me at least.

Comment by Docelder | 2009-05-05 15:42:44

There was also the creepy hand sign from the campaign.
