dijon-gate hysteria

Which scenario is more ridiculous:

Conservative pundits mock, laugh and poke fun at the Dijon Mustard Gate story…

The Liberal left is in an uproar because the Right poked fun at the Dijon-Gate…

Media Matters: Dijon Derangement Syndrome: Conservative media attack Obama for burger order

Huffington Post: Hannity Attacks Obama For Putting Mustard On His Burger

Crooks and Liars: Latest right-wing-lunatic smear about Obama: Dijongate

Or that the media REPORTED this in the first place???

Riveting reporting brought to you by Andrea Mitchell. (I wonder if she will win the excellence in media award that Couric won this year?)

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News

“Just ordinary diners?” Does Matt mean the peasants? The commoners?

It’s got that “real guy” quality to it? Why, because Obama isn’t a real guy?

MSNBC was inside the burger joint, with cameras rolling, before Biden and Obama walked in. It was a *Breaking news story* on msnbc. I don’t know about you, but in my opinion, it deserved a little mocking.

Judging by the reaction of HuffPo, Media Matters, and others, it is apparent indeed, *Thou Shall Not Mock Obama’s Mustard*.

Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion (reportedly the first to cover this) wrote about the burger joint appearance, as a joke, and pointed out how msnbc originally left off the part where Obama ordered Dijon.

He was attacked by Obots. And was then surprised at the viciousness. (where’s he been?)

Perhaps that is why late night comedians are hesitant to poke fun at Obama?

It’s not that there isn’t plenty of material….

UPDATE: After writing this, I saw this from the Daily Show. Glad to see someone pointing out the silliness.

This is what passes for “news?” On this we can agree, AGI.

This is pure, absolute nonsense.

Btw, I prefer “spicey mustard.” Gulden’s is what I buy at the grocery store. Don’t think I’ve ever requested it at a fastfood joint. But . . .

Who cares??!!

Andrea Mitchell talking about a hamburger lunch. We are lost. We are truly lost. And if this is what the Republicans think is worthy of discussion, even snark, they deserve to be and stay on the losing side.

And for the Far Left to spend time discussing or countering this?

Fools. We’re being led by a bunch of ridiculous fools.

I’m developing a renewed appreciation for the Guillotine!

Perhaps if left wing kooks and the suck ass media hadn’t had their nose stuck up Obama’s ass and made a big to do about him going out for a hamburger, the right would not have poked fun at him for the dijon mustard. Personally I could give a rats ass although I know no one who puts dijon mustard on their hamburger. It just looks snobbish.

Comment by FLDemFem | 2009-05-08 17:14:48

I use Dijon mustard when it is readily available. I don’t ask for it at the local burger place, though, if they have it it will be on the table or on the condiment stand. I like Dijon mustard on hamburgers, well, cheeseburgers since I eat them rather than hamburgers. I use yellow mustard on hot dogs, though. Has the bite I like for hot dogs.

Comment by NoBamaNoWay | 2009-05-08 17:44:24

that’s the point; even if Zero likes Dijon mustard, he has got to be utterly clueless and out of touch to order it at a (normal) hamburger joint.

it’s like Bush Sr.’s moment at the grocery store when he had never seen an optical scanner before. Zero’s minions think he’s some average guy from “the hood;” heh.

Comment by Undercover Black Man | 2009-05-08 19:17:55

Let me be the one to break it to you, NoBama, that Ray’s Hell Burger is not a “normal” burger joint. It’s owned by chef Michael Landrum. The burgers are made of aged prime beef. The restaurant offers “artisinal” cheeses for true snobs. (Mustard seed gouda, anyone?)

So the one who’s “utterly clueless” in this fracas is Sean Hannity… the King of All Douchebags. (And a man who insists on traveling by private jet for college speaking engagements.)

Nevermind the fact, ‘regular Joe’ Bill Clinton got into Oxford and Yale without a legacy door being opened for him. ;)

Comment by Naomi | 2009-05-09 02:40:13

oh and you think Obama got where he did due to his legacy? what legacy did he have at Columbia?? he was on a program where he could transfer to Columbia from Occidental – grades, etc. no legacy. and Harvard may have been where his father went, but it was NOT Harvard Law School – so there was NO legacy there either. THe professional schools, like medical, law, business – they operate as a school within a school – the legacy thing does not have the clout unless your ‘legacy’ went to that particular ’school.’

Comment by Elsie | 2009-05-09 07:30:21

Last I remember anyone of the Kennedys can get into Harvard Law School because of legacy…..

As far as Columbia is concerned, it was not legacy for Obama but someone had pulled strings for him to get there..

The guy has a lot of charm and it is no wonder that many people in his life will do things for him to get him where he wants to go including being selected by the king maker of Illinois politics. Added to that…MSN…Thus, he now is the president

The reality is he was trying to be portrayed as a “regular joe” otherwise why bring the press core with you to buy a hamburger? It’s SOOOO obvious. You can deny it all you want. The man is STILL in campaign mode.

The hamburger story was a big waste of time and money. And it’s not worth reporting. Although it was worth mocking.

Comment by Elsie | 2009-05-09 07:42:04

That is precisely the point Undercover Black Man..First of all, he wants to appear like a regular Joe having a hamburger for lunch, but actually goes to a classy hamburger joint… Is he trying to fool us all? Tom, our contractual painter could not afford a $7.00 dollar burger. And is it true that Biden paid for his own burger and Obama paid for his own and bought burgers for the reporters.. No wonder, this event got good reporting in favor of Obama.. I will write something positive too if someone else buy me lunch.

If he is indeed a regular Joe going to a hamburger place just like the ordinary people, he should go to a McDonalds or Wendys or Burger King just like Bill Clinton did… went to a McDonalds..

But Obama is different..He wants to appear something that is likable but actually isn’t. I say he should quit trying to be something he isn’t. But that is Obama and he will continue to do the same thing and sadly, he always gets away with it..

They’re making too much out of this, if this is what qualifies for news. We’re in big trouble. I have to have mustard on my chili cheese dogs and chili cheese hamburgers. It’s how I’ve eaten them my whole life. I don’t eat mustard on anything else, except deviled eggs and potato salad. In fact I still order packets of Cincinnati Chili and cans of Skyline Chili through the mail just so I can have my chili cheese dogs, and 3 way chili. Now if I could just figure out how Pasquale’s used to make their lunch meat hoagies. I can’t remember what meats were used.

Along the same lines of this article, Bob Somersby at Daily Howler really calls out the so-called progressive cable shows.

http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh050709.shtml

The gist of his piece is that unprecedented events are taking place in this country and the world right now. Obama and dems have the pedal to the metal and are taking us at break neck speed to . . . God knows where. Yet people like Olbermann and Maddow continue to obsess about the trials and tribulations of Bristol Palin, Miss California, Joe The Plumber, poor old Arlen Specter who really should retire, and yes, now Dijon-gate.

It’s a great read. Somersby concludes that “our society’s intellectual standards have been in the trash can for decades” . . . and that “On MSNBC, the development of “progressive” news shows has hastened an ugly tribal descent.”

Comment by SFJim | 2009-05-10 03:53:32

Comment by Carlyinnj | 2009-05-08 23:47:34

“Dijongate” seems to have all started with William Jacobson (an Associate Professor of Law at Cornell University) who has a Blog called “legal insurrection,” see link here:

http://legalinsurrection.blogspot.com/2009/05/msnbc-hides-obamas-dijon-mustard.html

and here:

http://legalinsurrection.blogspot.com/2009/05/thou-shall-not-mock-obamas-mustard.html

Also, see miq2xu posted at “The Confluence by Riverdaughter” who wrote in an Article entitled,”Pardon Me, Do You Have Any Grey Poupon?” on this rather amazing story here:

http://riverdaughter.wordpress.com/2009/05/07/pardon-me-do-you-have-any-grey-poupon/

Seems that the story about “Dijongate” grew legs when the Obots went nuts over Jacobson’s post at msnbc (sounds familiar).

Jacobson pointed out:

“[Like most of my posts, Dijongate could have and probably should have fallen into the black hole of internet punditry, never to be seen or heard of again. But the reaction from the nutroots was widespread and swift, and they have kept the story alive].”

Jacobson goes on to say:

“[....What gives here? Why the out-sized reaction? If this is a non-story, why is the left obsessed with it?

There are several parts of the answer to this question. Certainly part of the answer is that the left is not content with control of the presidency and Congress; anything, no matter how trivial, which questions Obama must be controlled. Also,

Dijongate was a metaphor for the larger issue of media bias which helped Obama get elected, particularly MSNBC's unprofessional and widely-criticized cheer leading.

But those two points cannot explain the nutroots reaction. Surely, Dijongate was a minor blip on the progressive radar screen, if it was a blip at all.

I think the answer to why the nutroots cannot let Dijongate rest is the inherent insecurity of the left with their hold on power. While the mainstream media and left-wing blogs constantly tell us that Republicans and conservatives are dead politically, I don't think they actually believe what they are saying....]”

So perhaps this uproar IS about more then just mustard.

Dijon mustard or anything UBM suggests is beside the point.

HOW MUCH DID THOSE BURGERS REALLY COST???

Comment by Undercover Black Man | 2009-05-09 13:31:23

How much it cost? That’s really what concerns you, Ms. Latte? Really?

How much does it cost to escort, protect and transport the President of the United States when he goes to church? Or to his children’s school? Or anywhere else in public?

Are you really arguing that President Obama should stay behind the gates of the White House for the next four years?

I’m sure the owner of Ray’s Hell Burger… as well as Ben’s Chili Bowl… appreciate the stimulative effective of having Obama as a customer.

But don’t mind me. Keep objecting to everything Obama does. It doesn’t make you sound insane… no, not in the least. It makes you sound quite rational.

Comment by Betsy Buzz Ross Latte | 2009-05-09 14:06:15

Comment by Undercover Black Man | 2009-05-09 15:12:20

I keep bringing it up to remind y’all that Bill Clinton’s peckerdillos have profoundly shaped contemporary American politics.

Without the dishonor he brought upon the White House, Al Gore would’ve surely been elected in 2000.

And without the living memory of President Clinton’s shame, Hillary would’ve won the 2008 Democratic nomination.

Comment by FLDemFem | 2009-05-09 16:04:00

What “profoundly shaped contemporary American politics” was not Bill Clinton getting a blowjob, but the Republican Congress’ extreme over-reaction to it. They set a standard of pettiness that was only matched recently by Obummer’s campaign. And when they got all self-righteous and decided to implement new rules and do some investigation in both Houses of Congress, 5 Republicans resigned from office rather than have what the investigations would have shown made public. And Newt Gingrich, who led the charge and was the most sanctimonious of them all, was the sort of man who served his wife divorce papers as she was being prepped for cancer surgery. She had been his high school math teacher, and he left her for the staffer he was having an affair with. So, do bear in mind that the problem was not so much Bill Clinton’s behavior, but Congress’ reaction to it and the wasting of $40 million taxpayer dollars on the investigation. And I would like to remind you that when he left office, Bill Clinton had a higher approval rating than Obama does now.

Comment by Undercover Black Man | 2009-05-10 01:57:30

High approval rating when he left office, huh? But could he campaign for Al Gore in 2000? Nope. Too much stink on him.

Plus… it ain’t so much the blowjob, but knowing that you got into the White House despite your serial adultery being an issue… and knowing that your Republicans enemies were out to destroy you… and still taking the blowjobs. In the White House. From an intern.

That’s sociopathic. Barack Obama has done nothing to reveal such lowness of character… such disrespect to his wife and daughters.

Undercover guy, get over your CDS already!!

Only when you lot get over your ODS??

See how ridiculous and annoying it is to focus obsessively on just the negative aspects of a person?

(For real, though. An intern. In the White House. That’s never-forgive action.)

Faux Blackman:

And what does it say about someone who isn’t comfortable in their own skin?

What about someone who enjoys being an agitator?

What about someone obsessed about Bill Clinton’s sexual trysts?

Insane– well yes, wanna be black man — that’s you.

Stop the wannabe skinfest!

No wonder MSNBC is losing a lot of viewers.

1. I believe the limousine, security and secret service is on duty 24-7 and so those costs would be fixed.

2. The tape clearly shows the president paying from money he takes from his own pocket, and then shows him putting cash in a tip jar (later reported as $5)

3. Dijon mustard is manufactured by Kraft, is on virtually every supermarket shelf in America.

Jeez, don’t we have more important stuff going on?

The bigger question in all of this is: How was he ever able to order his “gourmet burger” without using his teleprompter?

Thanks for this amusing post and the little noq family “fight” right here in the comments’ section.

I was happy to be turned away from over-thinking:

– unchecked corporate capitalism,

– hyperinflation, and

– Weimar Germany.

I tend to worry too much.

i like dijon mustard. but i can see why people would laugh at them. they left themselves open to be the butt of jokes.

the false rage of the far left leaves me saying “shut up and save your rage for something important like bankrupting the country, idiots.”

Comment by SFJim | 2009-05-10 03:59:22

Hey, aren’t you the guys who told us all to call French Fries “Freedom Fries”? And now you hate Dijon Mustard, too?

I think you need to see a therapist. False rage, indeed.
