They do make money off of you. They take a percentage from the vendor you shop with. So the best thing to do is stop using their cards. Not cancel them. Just let them sit and let them fester.

What burns me is that the bill apparently encourages companies to RAISE my rates. I always pay my bill off, so the bank credit card company doesn't make any money on me (& why should they -- they're using the money I keep in the bank at little or no interest). But now they say since they'll lose so much by having to be more honest with folks who run a balance, they are forced to gouge me.

The worthless LA Times naturally is spinning this as something great for consumers. The article says Dodd's bill "prohibits arbitrary interest rate increases", but of course does not explain what constitutes an arbitrary interest rate increase, nor does it even talk about the fact that there is no cap. What a joke. We just received two ridiculously arbitrary interest rate hikes from one bank (Chase) in the past two months. Never missed a payment, never was late, and our credit rating is very good. These f*&ked up credit card cos. are going to screw us all, and the witless wonders in congress will sit back & collect their $.

Great article, Uppity...as usual!

Yes, remember that was his lame excuse for not capping rates? "It wasn't enough." So, now there is no cap at all? Meanwhile, the media broadcasts every one of these empty pieces of theatre as if he is the most Transformative Leader Evah!

Another issue Hillary promised to really do something about by capping interest rates, Obama attacked her for her position then tried to say he would bring even more reform. He always lies, reneges, and obusicates on each and every issue. I am AA and I truly despise the lying, race-baiting POS.

Pay off all credit cards and destroy them. If you have balances, set up automatic payments to ensure you are not late.

I thought they might bring about at least some minimum reform.

Can we flood capital hill with a one word salute: SELLOUT

Yes, you’re right Ani. My first thought was about the lost opportunity to do something back then. What hope do we have of any real reform with 0 and a VP owned by the credit card companies, and a media obsessed with M's arms and Bo the dog. It’s sickening. I never thought I would see reporting reach this abysmal level, but hey, whadya know, we have!
Thank you UW, excellent as usual.

The credit card reform was written by the credit card companies; the bank bailouts by the banksters; the car industry salvaged via the unions and environmentalists [just can't wait to buy one of those newly designed, get killed-in-a-second autos], and the health care program is being concocted by the insurance and pharmaceutical firms.

Oh Happy Days!

Obama and his minions promised change. What we're getting is one monumental disaster after another.

The Big Lie is as "big" under the Dems as it was under the Repugs.

And I understand the credit card companies will most likely reinstitute annual fees to their "good" customers to make up for lost profits from all this profit-leveling, gut-wrenching reform.

Hahahaha!

It's almost funny. Except it's not. We need to vote these bums out, regardless of party affiliation. They've all taken a dive!

Good piece, Uppity.

Sounds like this "reform" was written by the credit card companies. The increase in the obscene interest rate can't be raised until 45 days after. Gives one more time to charge things to have the huge interest rate attached. It is so good NOT to be a Demopuglican anymore.
