UNACCEPTABLE (Part 2)
By Bonnie Berger on May 28, 2009 at 10:30 AM in Abuse, Health Care, Sexism, Women, Women and Children
- There are 900,000 teen pregnancies annually (11-12% of all births in US).
- 22% of teen girls have been sexting (sending out nude or semi nude photos of themselves)
- 29% of single households led by women are below the poverty level (12% for
men). - Women represent 52% of the voters yet are only 17% of our government representation.
- The US ranks 29th in infant mortality rates. We were 12th in 1960; we now tie with Slovakia and lag behind Cuba.
- The US ranks 27th in the 2008 Global Gender Gap study of economic opportunity, education, political empowerment and health. We lag behind Lativa, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Moldova.
- 15 of Fortune 500 companies have females CEOs
- Women have dropped from 17% of high management-level jobs in 2007 to
15% today; this is the wrong direction.

THANK YOU!!!!! And I thought I was the only one who saw this slow creeping sexism. What the hell is going on?
Bonnie Berger - YOU GO GIRL!!!
Amen!
I hardly even watch tv anymore. TV has women protrayed as sex objects for men, with men being rated as the heros, especilly comedy shows. Has anyone noticed that most of tv is all about how to get someone into bed or how many women you got into bed, especially the comedies. Just look at any of the 1/2 comedies with single men protrayed in them. Hey this is what we are teaching our kids so what can we expect.
That’s definitely a change– since I don’t watch them I’ll take your word for it– but for an entire generation, beginning in the 60’s, every sitcom, with one exception, treated men as complete idiots with only women capable of rational action.
We raised concerns about this very thing back in the 80’s. I was only in my 20’s then and most of us raising our voices were. Sexy is one thing, sexual is another. Downright disgusting is yet quite another.
Models and actresses are the ones that allowed themselves to be filmed and photo’d like this with no thoughts to the consequences of their actions for women.
Madonna/Cher were the ones leading the pack. They thought it made them look like they were the one’s in control of their body, their sexuality. It didn’t then. It still doesn’t today. It makes women look like sex toys, objects. Not humans or even equals.
Excellent post. Wake up, parents, and teach your daughters self-respect, and your sons respect for girls and women.
IF we are the majority
WE could change things
IF ALL/ANY/MOST of us had a LICK of SENSE
wtf :-/
come ON my GODDESS SISTERS
quit walking the damn pony
get ON IT AND RIDE!
As long as commercials for sites like bootycall and girls gone wild are acceptable nothing will change.
The teachings of the past about self respect and respect for others is treated as so yesterday.
Our schools have been dumbed down, our government is no longer the the peoples best interest.
Stop the acceptance//////////
Speak out loudly and use your pocketbook as a weapon.
Let the clothes that make women look like 1/2 dollar hookers rot on the rack. Most females don’t look good in them anyway.
Let the products that advertise using women in a demeaning way rot on the shelf.
Don’t watch the programs that demean women. Ratings are all to tv producers.
We are the ones that can change this behavior.
We are the ones that have to stop accepting this behavior.
It is up to US to change what is acceptable and what is not.
Now with the economy tightening we will have less to spend and must use money wisely. Don’t use it on products whose ads demean women.
WOMEN WITH INTELLIGENCE AND EXPERIENCE,MEN WHO SUPPORT THEM AND COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS
PUMAS,BUBBAS,EQUALISTS,AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE
This post leaves me dumbfounded. It also helps to explain why the US is so reluctant to elect a female leader.
Funny thing is many so-called third world countries are more accepting of female leadership than the US.
Hey Candyyyyyy!
Maybe WE are now the REAL 3rd World Banana Republic, ya think?
We elected 2 PUNKS in a row
and ONE of them got RE-ELECTED
let’s pray the 2nd one doesn’t get so lucky
great seeing U though
LLLAAADDYYY!
One such so called third world country, India had a well organized e-voting election and now the winning party is giving its youngest female member of parliament at 28 years of age, a lawyer, an opportunity to make a mark by making her a cabinet member. Her name is Agatha Sangma.
It is a felony to post pics of minors whether the minors do it themselves or not. It is child pornography. As the mother of three teen boys, I can assure you that they have not “sexted”.
I know that there are some big groups that say that 22% of girls/33% of boys have “sexted” yet they do not stipulate as to where they garnered that information. They are saying that more than half of the teen population has committed a felony. I don’t buy it.
As a teacher in Middle School you would be surprised and probably shocked at what I overhear the kids talking about when they dont think I am listening. I’ve even had kids come to me shocked at what their friends or group is doing.
Been to enough conventions in the last few years to know that its not just the area I live in, its happening all over America.
There are some teens that there parents have a good handle on and then there are the parents who think they have a handle on things. If you have teens be the parent who actually does have a handle on your kids.
Yup, our schools were dumbed down instead of requiring all students to smarten up. Instead of requiring best effort we praised any and all effort as truly wonderful. So what was once unacceptable became the norm. Instead of a step up we all fell down. We now have a president who can’t think on his feet and has to have a Teleprompter hooked to him like an IV to function, but listen to the left excuse it away as no big deal. Being able to speak extemporaneously is a mark of intelligence. Biden beats him there! OMG, let’s not offend even though the signs of incompetence are there! We’ll take less!
Our standards were dropped in order to make all feel accepted. We didn’t ask anything except for everyone to be liked. We embraced the negative because OMG someone might be offended! It’s okay to express yourself as a gang member or a thug because Oh God you’re such a victim! Just ask Rev. Wright or Willian Ayers! WWWWAAAAHHHHHH! Where are the warm fuzzies and cookies?!
No one can get a promotion in the New Haven fire department because those with extra skin pigmentation for whatever reason didn’t score high enough on the test. Everyone loses. But, by God, we’ll all bend over in order to be “fair”!
Hey women can make a lot of money by baring it all! What? Drop the clothes, hang around a photo shoot, make tens of thousands? Why not? Blame the men! Blame the men! Isn’t it possible that women make those choices to pose with their own brain power?
Let’s subvert photos of women because it’s one of the last bastions of freedom to express without ramifications. It sells, sells, sells! Our standards of how we view women fell with everything else. Of course it would. We chose to push the down button so that everyone would be equal without effort. Choosing to push the up button in the elevator would have required the victims to do something called helping themselves.
This is what we have. Do you like the results?
I guess you missed the part with the Fortune 500 statistics. And the part with women heading up families. When you have to feed your kids you do what pays and if people are blocking your path upward, your only direction is down.
Sorry you don’t get it.
I can say with 100% certainty that eating out of a dumpster is more appealing than becoming a passed around piece of meat myself.
I would shoot rapists and eat them first.
Women who participate willingly in pornography are complicit in the subjugation of women. And don’t forget, few women are attractive and young enough for this to be a real option for most women anyhow, and none of them stay that way.
Just to be fair, statistics show that most women in porn and/or prostitution were sexually and/or physically abused as children. They’re walking around with an unaddressed trauma inside of them. They’re basically stuck at the “survivor” level, and may not have even any thoughts about a higher, “thriver” level. So, while they make a “choice” about going into porn, it’s not really a “free choice”. Long ago, the actions of one or more abusers made them internalize a very short-sighted limit on where their life could go.
Indoctrination into the cult of women’s inferiority is indeed very strong.
One’s only choice is to hone one’s will against it.
Moldova? I just got back from there and um, no, Moldovan women dont have it better than American. Unless you think being a hooker is the apex of female employment. Really.
There is probably a study out there saying Moldova has more “equitable” healthcare too, but I had the misfortune of receiving stitches there and it was a do-over the instant I got back home, with tetanus shot to boot. So much for universal care.
I can immediately solve your teen pregnancy issue, as well as drastically reduce infant mortality. We could simply make fetuses citizens at conception. If mothers didnt take proper care of them, mothers could be detained for the duration of the pregnancy. There. Fixed. Then we could Norplant all girls at puberty and remove the Norplant at 20. There. Fixed. No more teen pregnancy. But at the cost of the rights of women and girls.
I agree that women are always at the bottom of whatever society they live in, but watch where you get your information and which problems you wish to own and fix in the name of feminism.
Sorry, I do. Not everyone is Fortune 500 material NOR do they have aspirations to be in that system. Not everyone measures success by business standards.
Women have had to do whatever for their families because they saw those paths as their options. They also made choices to have children despite being uneducated, unmotivated, and unemployed because they could claim welfare as their “career’.
What I am speaking to is choice AND responsibility.
After spending decades in the public school systems spanning from the late ’70’s when the dumbing down of school curriculum was beginning to 2003, I saw what avenues were opening up and what wasn’t. What I did see was the rise of the “Victim Class” rather than the rise of the “Independent Self determined Class”. If one more counselor, with their steaming mug of tea, comes to the staff of a school and excuses behavior in the name of victimhood, the complete demise of self determination in imminent.
So the more it is promoted that women are victims of someone else instead of their own choices instead of requiring them or anyone to be responsible for their own choices, we are going to continue the vicious circles.
There were many times I had to choose between eating and buying gas to get to work the last week of the month. Don’t tell me about sacrifices or hard roads. I never thought I was a victim. No, I thought I needed to make better choices and be self determining. That’s my point.
We have all had to make choices, but I don’t want to include the women that have had them thrust upon them, such as married women whose husbands walked out and don’t contribute.
I also have seen women make bad choices. Putting the needs of children first often means the mother convinces herself that something will be OK when it isn’t.
I know the choice of not eating for my principles was an immensely different decision before I had children.
you know you are only a victim when you think like one. i believe that is what betsy is saying. everyday women make decisions that keep them victims. the first reason is thinking it is someone’s fault beside their own. when you can get past how wronged you are and how the world owes you, then maybe just maybe you might get to solve problems. hell, all of us have had to fight. i put up with sexism before i even knew what it was. i kept on trucking. i paid my bills and understood i had to work my way up no matter what! so poor ole mary or linda, or whoever first needs a certain mindset. and frankly with everyone yelling about how bad we are treated? well, we’ll stay right there. that doesn’t mean you ignore the sexim. i wish hillary had openly called it for what it was. but she kept on trucking! that’s one of the points i am trying to make.
i have been sober a very longggggggg time. first i learned i had to change my thinking. instead feeling sorry for myself, i needed to get out in the world and see what i could give back. do with whatever you want with that thought.
