Who Distracts Arabs?

Posted To the Wall Street Journal.
I posted a comment to the Steven Waldman annotation of POTUS speech in Cairo in this news cycle: John Batchelor wrote: (your comment)

POTUS:  ”The Arab-Israeli conflict should no longer be used to distract the people of Arab nations from other problems.”

POTUS asserts that someone in Arab nations is using the Palestinian cause as a distraction. Not a fresh theory. POTUS politely or fretfully avoids naming names. Who uses the Palestinians as a distraction? The usual list is immediate, led by Abdullah of Arabia, Mubarak of Egypt, Assad of Syria, the Ayatollah of Iran. And distracted from what other problems? Again the usual list is liberty, law and order, trade, peace, education and health, tolerance of other religions and tribes.

Why does POTUS avoid saying all this? Does he believe that the Palestinians are a distraction? Does he believe the other problems are that the leaders who are hosting him on this trip are the obstacle? Is he repeating theory? Does he have a position? Is he arguing a case that his speech writer copied out?

By avoiding speaking directly on the matter of Palestinians and distraction, does POTUS not risk endorsing the manipulation, does he not tell the manipulators: We know what you are doing, and we are not going to stop you? Or does POTUS say, We can’t prove what you are doing, but we can suppose, so please, stop it? Puzzle.

Cairo Audience.

OBAMA CAIRO AUDITORIUM.png

Because everything POTUS said at Cairo has been said before, often, and because the immediate news was not what was said but who said it, the new guy, POTUS, — I turned to studying the audience for the  remarks.  Not the TV audience, not the video clip audience, but the audience in the auditorium.

Controlled, attentive, cautious, and apparently English speakers from the prompt way the audience reacted to certain lines that praised Islam or made friendly debating points.  In sum, a police state audience of the best sort of obedient clerks and their student flacks.  Egypt is a police state cult.  Hosni Mubarak is a decrepit, facile, feckless, impotent leader who has one goal, which is to install his tedious and whimsical son Jamal as the next inert dictator.

POTUS in North Korea.

Surprising how similar the dying Mubarak’s goal is to the goal of the dying Kim for his regime in North Korea.  Change the scene for a wink, just for fun.  Imagine POTUS making this speech in Pyongyang before a polite, obedient, devoted audience of Kim puppets.

What would the speech sound like if we changed Muslim to Leninist-Marxist-Maoist atheists?

“We meet at a time of tension between the United States and Leninist-Marxist-Maoist atheists around the world — tension rooted in historical forces that go beyond any current policy debate. The relationship between Leninist-Marxist-Maoist atheists  and the West includes centuries of co-existence and cooperation, but also conflict and religious wars.

More recently, tension has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Leninist-Marxist-Maoist atheists, and a Cold War in which Leninist-Marxist-Maoist atheists  majority countries were too often treated as proxies without regard to their own aspirations.”

With a simple, spooky, not profound change of scene and place and language, and what have you got?  Dystopian fiction at its best.  Do you figure a POTUS speech would alter in some fashion the Kim regime’s depraved orthodoxy?

Not unlike wandering into the halls of “Battlestar Galactica” as Gaius Baltar, the master cynic and libertine, preaches self-love and inertia to the despairing people of Earth and also to the Cylons.

Must read in the WSJ:

“Barrack Houssain Bush: The freedom agenda gets a new cover, but Iran is his real test.”

“Police state cult”. Thank you. Same as all other Arab nations. And Obama is praising them? Does he despise freedom? Or is he just in love with himself as a faux savior? It’s completely sickening. Rush Limbaugh said on his show this is a nightmare he hopes he’ll wake up from…
