Colbert’s Bob Hope Moment

Obama alert. If you genuinely detest the very sight of President Obama then do not watch this clip. I give him kudos for the first genuine self-deprecating humor I’ve seen from him.

And Colbert?

A buddy of mine, an arch conservative who served in the first Bush Administration and returned recently from a year-long stint in Iraq, stayed up to watch Colbert. He’s a tough critic and thought it was a hoot. I think Colbert sings better than Bob Hope. Maybe we will find out this week.

Thanks for the warning. Nothing about Obama is funny and I highly doubt he is capable of human feelings or a sense of humor.

I haven’t watched Colbert or Stewart since early 2008 when they showed what pussies they are and I also heard them say they could not make fun of Obama because he is “flawless”. Colbert should have probably had a lobotomy on air rather than a haircut!

The only place I want to see Colbert, Stewart or Obama is unemployed and off the air! The real 3 stooges right there!

Funny deal, when I felt that way about shrub Bush, Dick Cheney, et al, it was because they led the most secretive administration in the history of our nation, they lied us into a war of choice, they perpetrated torture…In other words, they presided over the destruction of much of what the nation I love stood for. There is no comparable complaint of Obama, NONE. So, for you I offer this: Get used to it. You have a long, long seven plus years to look forward to. Go ahead and rant and rage. It amuses.

But thanks, yet again, for the “deep thoughts”.

can you even IMAGINE how much HATE is stirring over on the far wretched right for this fraud?

I hated BOTH Bushes, I still hate ALL Cheney’s (he got away with a crime in front of the whole nation and was probably DRUNK when he did it) crickets now! BUT the Ducks know!

JUST like Odrama, and the Demented Dem Rules Committee broke their OWN LAW right in front of the whole nation (those that BOTHERED watching) while legions of his cruel creepy punks cheered the stealing of the primaries we KNEW what was in store for later! They’re stealing the NATION now! What ever the BUSH’S didn’t get the BAMBI’s will take now.

oh happy day – see you back here in a few months to read your stupid apology for being such a MOE RON!

Dawnelle: The far right is demented anyway. I assure you that if Hillary Clinton had been elected President the reaction from the right would have made what you’re seeing now look like child’s play.

Remember the ’90s? All those independent counsels investigating not only the Clintons but all their friends and members of his cabinet? The overwhelmingly negative press coverage? “Wag the dog”? Ugly times.

Multiply that hysteria by 1000 and you still wouldn’t come close to how the far right would have behaved had Hillary had been elected. Not that I care. They’re crazy anyway so it’s best not to pay attention.

James said:

“they lied us into a war of choice, they perpetrated torture…In other words, they presided over the destruction of much of what the nation I love stood for.”

Yes, they did. And now Obama and the New Democrats will write the final chapter. The one thing I’m certain of, James, is that when the ship goes down, we all go down with it. Lies are lies and Obama will bring down what’s left of the US with his economic recklessness. We’re out of money, flat broke.

Remember that tax relief for the middle class? Hahaha. Pay to Go? That means higher taxes, for me, for you, for everyone. Unemployment? Right now, 9.5% [the official number] More like 16% and rising. No jobs, more taxes, rising inflation and NO MONEY.

Want to bring what’s left of the country down around our ears? Let’s have another stimulus package on the national credit card.

Obama’s the man, all right. He can’t even get the job loss numbers right. Happy face slogans and the crowd nods and smiles.

Another 7 years? We’ll be lucky to get through the next 2.

So, you can take your smug satisfaction and shove it! You and the New Dems are adding fuel to the fire. The house is burning down.

Excuse me if I don’t applaud. Mourning seems more appropriate.

Why don’t YOU get used to people not liking Obama? And then you can remain in complete denial over how many of Bush’s policies Obama has kept.

And yes. It is amusing to see Obots drool over nothing just like it was amusing to see the Bushbots do the same.

Sleep sheep….

There is no comparable complaint of Obama.

No, there are only facts. BO being the POTUS and me not wanting to see the government fail, do not change the fact that he is an immoral human being.

Just ask the folks in his state district. They froze their ass off in Rezko housing and he KNEW they were.

Besides, there is no comparision when one is talking apples and apples.

Hows that FISA workin for you or his health plan or his Bailout or his ME policies? or his North Korean policy? or or or…the list is longer than his term in office will be.
Not like Bush, now that’s funny.

I am still waiting on the funny moment, Obama’s humor is dry and in no way funny at all, if this is the best comedy central has to offer they better think again, this one is flat.

Comment by Larry Johnson | 2009-06-09 21:05:02

C’mon. LIghten up. The big ears comment was very funny, like him or not. Prior to this most of his jokes were at the expense of others. When he can make fun of his own “big ears” I see that as progress.

Comment by ColbertURDead2Me | 2009-06-09 22:15:42

Sorry, Larry. I just can’t stand his face nor his voice. I stopped watching Colbert long time ago. Can’t stand him either. Obama really makes me puke!

Comment by SJ | 2009-06-10 01:00:52

Sorry Larry I can see the humor especially when I have to sit and watch some of these car dealer that have to close their family business that they were running for years.

When I have to look at a clip of Letterman talking about Alex Rod having sex with Willow Palin a 14 year old, and listen to Letterman call Palin a slut.

No Larry I cant find any humor in what Obama says, because most of this nasty behavior started when he came on the scene, Obama is the first black president but do so many have to act as if they are all from the hood to feel connected to him?

Comment by ScottVA | 2009-06-10 09:35:08

Larry: I agree. At the risk of getting brutally pummeled by other commenters I have to say that the clip was funny – and from a television production point of view I was extremely impressed that they could build that terrific set in Saddam’s former palace, get the army to put Colbert through mock basic training AND get POTUS, regardless of whether you like it or not, to play along. Colbert’s producers did a terrific job.

I did see part of Colbert’s show. It was funny watching him get his hair shaved off. I turned it off when I heard Bambi say “I”m ordering you to shave off your hair” or something to that effect…………. I turned it off to avoid the hurls.

I, like most people, think Obama’s a good guy. Have any of you who are bashing him personally ever met him? Ever talked with anyone who has known him personally? It reminds me of all the people who hated Secretary Clinton in the 90’s. You might disagree with his policies but to hate him so much personally- I think that says unflattering things about you.

Comment by Craig Della Penna | 2009-06-09 22:59:41

Well, for comparison, most people thought that GWB was a ‘good guy’ in fact they’d prefer to have a beer with him than with that lying dweeb, Al Gore. Look what that brought us.

The reason most people here don’t like Obama is that we were awake and alert during the the Democratic primaries, unlike you apparently, and we saw and heard what and who Obama really is: the lying racism, the vicious woman-hating rhetoric, the wholesale cheating in the caucuses, the propaganda spewing Democratic ‘leadership’.

Personally, I’m glad you didn’t have to go through that – it’s a crushing experience to see your entire political organization taken over by fanatical cultists determined to foist the incompetent object of their adoration on us whilst kicking the competent, intelligent, experienced candidate to the door…

…on the other hand, no, I’ve never met him – I’m told by those that venerate him that he’s a really great guy.

De Gustibus…

Right on the mark, Craig. Obamatrons and the MSM may be eager to rewrite history but there are plenty of us who can still testify to what happened during the primaries.

You start on rotten foundations, you’re more than likely to see your house fall down. We bore the brunt of Bush&Co, and now we have a new crew of liars in the power seat. And despite the claims of “brilliance,” Obama has shown little acumen for running the country, the nuts and bolts of keeping the engine rolling or turning anything around, let alone the national economy.

When he made the “big ears” comment? I laughed. It was a rare moment of self-deprecation.

But being a “nice guy” and being a leader are two different things. And you’re right, the press heralded the fact that GW was a “nice guy.” Personable, likeable, someone you’d like to have a beer with [even though GW was a reformed alcoholic].

Well, we know how that turned out.

Bad winds are still blowing, nice guy or not!

Nope, I haven’t met him personally. I wouldn’t want to get arrested for my urge to slap him!

I did meet Hillary Clinton once though. She was very impressive and personable. Oh, yes, and she gave a speech at the dinner I was at and she is a great orator. Not like the media pretend Obama is. Nope. She truly is a great orator!

You don’t need to meet Obama personally to see that his smiles are fake, the eyes don’t twinkle or light up like most people’s when they have a genuine smile. Watch his eyes sometime. They rarely match his facial expression because he isn’t genuine. I once knew a pathological liar and as I watched Obama in the Primary debates (until he got too afraid to do anymore), I saw the same behaviors in Obama as Mr. Pathological liar. You also don’t need to meet Obama personally to see how much he hates America. He proudly hates America and it shows! All it took for me was to see him not put his hand over his heart for the Star Spangled Banner. I knew then I would never want to meet Obama.

Why? Did you meet Obama? Did you get a tingle up your leg?

“Hating Secretary Clinton in the 90s”??? What about the abject vitriol many of Obama’s suppoorters subjected her to in 2008 — that wasn’t jus coming from Republicans by the way — that was coming from people on pro-Obama websites…remember. Surely you jest.

Furthermore, I have yet to hear about anyone who does know Obama personally over a long period of time- one of the things people, even media supporting him. were wondering about, were where are his long time friends or colleagues recommending him — please let me know — I’d love to hear about these long time associatons telling me how lovely he is– aside from Rev. Wright and Rezko and Ayers or Jarrett. Hillary has people who have been friends with her for 30 years raving about her to the day.

LJ, Colbert was a good sport on this one…and it had much heart.

There was a moment were BO gave a direct order to the General, to cut Colbert’s hair. While it was done in humor and Colbert played along, there was a spooky quality to it, by the fact that Colbert is not subject to the order, being a civilian. And a military person was giving the buzz.

The current receding debate on torture is very similar with just a few click on the razor. Spooky.
Thanks for the big eared FISA lovin BO clip… I bet he needed TOTUS for his lines…

Sometimes satire speaks about the future. I thought it was a glimpse….
Wasn’t Ordinero one of the folks who had a hand in the counter insurgency in Northern Iraq? Has the matter of the suspicious circumstances surrounding the “suicide” of the Col. been resolved? Has the missing weapons episode been resolved?

I agree.

It may be a joke now but it may also be the first step in negating The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878.

Comment by DCMediagirl | 2009-06-10 14:10:16

Animal Control: Are you kidding? Is that a serious comment? Wow. Obama goes on Comedy Central and participates in a skit and you extrapolate to the Posse Comitatus Act? The last time I heard someone make a comment like that was when the press took a sudden interest in militias after Oklahoma City. Come on now. That’s black helicopter talk.

You can call me a bot if you want, but I think some of these comments are way over the line. Larry’s absolutely right. Lighten up for God’s sake.

Comment by Animal Control | 2009-06-10 21:59:23

I’m very light and I certainly don’t need your permission to comment. Larry referred to the self deprecating comment about his ears, not ordering a military subordinate to touch a civilian–NOT FUNNY. So now we are only to comment on what someone else recommends we focus on and not what catches our attention.

FeEl free to tell me again how wrong I am to make this comment.
I have seen Obama during one of those roast and he has no sense of humor–the joke is on America.

Comment by DCMediagirl | 2009-06-11 09:43:25

Animal Control: Your reading comprehension is very poor. I didn’t order you not to post. And in your response you ignored what I wrote about your absurd extrapolation to the Posse Comitatus Act.

Let me let you in on a little secret: THAT WHOLE HEAD SHAVING SEGMENT WAS A SETUP. It was a brilliantly produced, pre-planned segment with General Odierno, Colbert and Obama in on the joke. Obama didn’t just decide to beam in and order a military man to shave Colbert’s head. If you watch the segment closely you can see that the interview with Odierno was edited (perhaps because the taping had to stop while the producers were waiting for the White House feed to beam in) and at times the General appears to be reading off a TelePrompTer.

If you don’t like Obama and don’t find him funny that’s your right. But reacting to a segment on Comedy Central by referring to the Posse Comitatus Act makes you look like a fool. IMHO.

DCMediagirl,

I took it for what it was … a comedy skit.

It was funny that Colbert was a good soul for showing his respect to the military members present.

Obama, while in Egypt, made a pilgram to the pyramids and saw a likeness in the face of Carr, an “overseer”, who had big ears…and frankly was the spitting image of BO…if he was a 4600 year old Egyptian. He does walk like one.
It was very funny hearing BO make fun of his appendages, much to the chagrin of Pinocchio
It was humorous up until the point BO said, “General, as your commander in chief I order you to cut his hair.”

The order BO gave was not a legal order and he Even in humor, I can get it. I am happy to laugh at all of them and do often.

Comment by DCMediagirl | 2009-06-11 11:23:32

I didn’t think it was funny when Dubya made the jokes about not being able to find the WMDs. “Nope, not there. Not there either.” Equally distasteful was Barry’s attempt to act “presidential” while reading his TOTUS to order Colbert to get the haircut. Doesn’t this guy have anything better to do? His attempt at humor was tacky and disgusting. I doubt the families of the soldiers killed in the war found Barry’s comments to be a real knee slapper either.
And to all of you Kool-Aid drinkers, here’s a gentle reminder: many people genuinely detest the sight of Obama, we don’t think he’s a good guy, and to you I offer this: Get used to it.

Ima Blue Dot in Texas: Bush’s “Looking for WMD” act at the Correspondent’s Dinner in no way compares to what aired on Comedy Central, not even close. Bush was mocking the fact that he’d started a war against a country that didn’t attack us and sent troops to their deaths based on an outright lie. It was sick and unconscionable. What was even worse was that the members of the press in attendance laughed.

Bush’s WMD ‘joke’ betrayed his lies to get our country into an unnecessary war that has killed thousands of American soldiers and countless Iraqi civilians. Obama’s joke here was 100% in the spirit of raising the morale of the troops with Colbert’s help. If Colbert and Obama can even get haters like LJ comparing Colbert to Bob Hope, I’d say they pulled it off.

Sure, the guy’s the president — but it’s a crime to spend 5 minutes out of his day to boost troop morale?

Comment by politicalidentitycrisis | 2009-06-10 01:07:30

I know many a troop and their wives who are very afraid of what is coming from an Obama dictatorship. We will most likely have a draft because many soldiers don’t want to reenlist. Either they really fear for their safety in this administration or they find it unpatriotic to follow the orders of a usurper.

Personally, I think the troops should all just leave now and refuse to serve until Obama answers some questions or steps down.

Unfortunately, the Constitution does not make a distinction between a “usurper”, as you put it and a real president. He is, for better or for worse (and worse, IMO), the CIC.

There are but three rules for anyone:
1. Know the rules,
2. Comply with the rules, or
3. Cause the rules to be changed.

Yeah, I love Obama’s jokes about his stinky feet and bad morning breath, and his funny name; his big ears, his special Olympic style bowling. So funny when he called his grandma a typical white person–scared of shhh…black people, and I thought his GD America US of KKK A– YAY FOR 9/11 church he brought his little daughters to was hilarious. His terrorist bomber buddies gave me a tickle as well–bombing the Pentagon–HA! Just like 9/11. You know what was really funny? How his cousin Odinga, the one he campaigned for in Kenya, incited the church burning-machete hacking murders of over a thousand people. Oh oh, and remember how Obama played it in the primaries that he voted against the war, but he wasn’t even in the US Senate? That was funny! So many people thought he must have voted against it–weird thing is that he was so anti-war but now? Not so much. Oh wait–and another funny time was when he and his buddy Rezko let all those poor inner city people almost freeze to death in Chicago winter without any building heat–soooo hilarious, even a little boy got killed by a neglected gate falling on him and crushing him. ha ha. Oh, wait–soo funny when Obama used to have mega church rallies and all his obot followers thought he was the messiah, ya know…cause they would faint and look like wild-eyed psychos and CHANT?…yeah, Farrakhan called him the messiah too–so cute! tee hee. Oh, and isn’t it non-stop fun that all of the MSM kisses Oblow’s ass, so the American people never know what Oblow is REALLY doing? Maybe he is snorting all that stimulus money? You know, like the funny time when he was a cokehead?

You forgot Original Sin. I’m sure he’s responsible for that too.

How can GOD be responsible for “original sin”?

Evan Thomas of NewsWeek Tells Chris Matthews on MSNBC, “Obama is GOD” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzoAO6d5wy0

Is Barack Obama the Messiah?

I can’t stand Obama and I have been staying away from Colbert and Stewart but I just happened to catch this clip and I thought it was hilarious—even the cameo by Telepromter Jesus. But what I liked most about it was that it was so obvious that this auditorium packed with hundreds if not thousands of our troops was rocking with laughter and genuine joy. I can support that completely. I thought Colbert was obviously having a grand time with it all and they with him. And I am absolutely sure that Odinero’s role and TPJ’s role were worked out well ahead of time. So I say to all of you critics, put the ODS aside (well deserved though it may be) and think about those military men and women who have give so much over there and in their broken lives here. Anyone or anything that can make them rock and stomp with laughter is just pure American soul and we should be glad for it and for them.

It will be sad when those military men and women come home and see how life is in the former US of A. If they ever get to come home, they’ll shudder to think they were fighting for a dictator and Czars and everything to take away our freedoms. They’ll probably want to go back to Iraq.

Wow. You have some serious issues. But you should be cut some slack since unlike my parents, my grandparents, my husband and my inlaws you’ve never actually lived in a dictatorship and wouldn’t know one if it bit you on the behind.
