Letterman’s Teen Age Booty Call

Letterman IS a jokester. He’s a comedian. The difference with David Schuster was that he was a journalist representing a news program covering an important election when he made a crude comment about Chelsea Clinton and so it warranted a full apology from MSNBC. Letterman isn’t part of a news program, he is a late night comedian. It was just a joke. A tasteless joke, but a joke nonetheless.

Palin is making a mountain out of a molehill. She may be a refreshing political voice, but she needs thicker skin should she enter national politics.

Arch, yes it was a joke, a very TASTELESS and DISGUSTING one at that. However, having a title of “comedian” or “entertainer” doesnt give you the license to say whatever you want, and still expect to be paid and respected for it. While it doesnt seem to matter much to you, WE ALL HAVE mothers, grand-mothers.. some have daughters, sisters, friends… who ARE ALL WOMEN, and they do not deserve to have this vile 62 yr old man “tell jokes” to a national audience, and thereby increasing its acceptance in our society! Its not fair, and is certainly not something he should be rewarded for. This is exactly the same mysogenistic behavior that EACH one of us Clinton supporters saw during the primary (WHICH WAS LARRY’s POINT!)and it wasnt acceptable then, and isnt now!

Letterman made a tasteless vile joke. He should lose his job! If I make a mistake I lose my job. Why shouldn’t he? He’s hosted his own program on television for like 25 years. This joke should be the end of his career! I can’t believe this important story isn’t on the front page of every newspaper in the country! We cannot let comedians get away with making unfunny vile jokes! Obama has ruined our country.

I’m a Clinton supporter as well, and I am appalled at the levels of sexism being directed at both Clinton and Palin. In fact, right now, during and since the election, I believe Palin has been treated worse. Sure, fellow Democrats supporting Obama in concert with a fawning mainstream media acted very badly toward Clinton, and that is why many of us Clinton supporters did not vote for Obama. But Democrats acted even meaner and with more vitriol toward Palin, and they have not stopped even after the election. For example, don’t you love those so-called progressive and enlightened liberal Democrats wearing “Sarah Palin is a Cunt” t-shirts? Wow, that is an uplifting message toward women, ain’t it?

Sorry, if you are a Clinton supporter, you should also be able to see that Palin and her family have been treated like dirt, and it continues. As a lifelong Democrat up until Obama’s win in the Democratic primary, I can tell you that Democrats are a despicable lot, especially in their treatment of women, and I will have nothing to do with them until Obama is gone.

This is a guy who has complete control over his show. It is recorded hours before it is aired – plenty of time to make sure he was pimping out the right daughter for rape. I think he knew exactly who was at that game and deliberately chose to encourage raping a 14 year old for ‘laughs’.
He did it because he wanted the publicity as more ‘cutting edge’ than his new competition, Conan O’Brien, who is known for his vicious frat-boy humor and he did it because he thought he could get away with it since the Obama campaign made it ‘OK’ to assault Sarah Palin and her family on the public airwaves.
Frankly, I think Letterman should be arrested on a sex offender charge.

And what about Alex Rodriguez? Letterman apparently thinks hispanics are just a bunch of out of control hot-blooded sex maniacs all ready to rape 14 year olds at the seventh inning stretch. I’m surprised he hasn’t already filed a defamation of character suit.

Anyone (from someone who has never watched his show) have any thoughts as to whether the prominent laughter to this pathetic joke is real? If it is real, which I suspect it is, then the problem is far bigger then Letterman. There was even laughter to parts of explanation that seemed not even by him intended to be funny.

Actually–NO. Governor Palin went to a Yankees game with one daughter: Willow. Every news report said WILLOW, the 14 year old.

The writers of Letterman *knew* which daughter she was with. It was NY local news and Letterman and his writers are local. (Plus, they research daily news for a living.)

Letterman and his writers were not trying to make a joke about Bristol. They were making jokes about the Palin females as sluts in general. Like they are all one female slut archetype…the mom, the girls–all looking and behaving “slutty.” It’s CLASSIC sexism and misogyny.

And don’t forget the Eliot Spitzer joke (he was NY Gov. who got caught being involved with a young prostitute).

Letterman said the next night, after he said Willow got knocked up in the seventh inning by 32 YEAR OLD OLD A-Rod: The hardest part of their NY trip was keeping Eliot Spitzer away from her daughter.

That’s disgusting too!! Eliot Spitzer is 50 YEARS OLD. Letterman is joking about Eliot Spitzer the perceived OLD PERVERT as coming after her underage daughter?? Or is he saying that Willow Palin is like a prostitute Spitzer would find irresistible? Both.

I think it’s funny because people don’t agree with this woman politically, that they’re okay with her debasement.

Carolyn Kennedy (once again, not a fan) made the mistake of thinking she could ride on Obama’s coattails and was painted as an inept NYC pampered socialite with nothing to offer.

Now granted…politically you may have things against these women. Maybe how they’ve conducted their personal lives don’t gel with what you want in a candidate.

But there is a disturbing trend here, that women are just not getting…or maybe they don’t want to rock the boat so they join in on the fun…

As long as people keep using these sexual stereotypes instead of FOCUSING ON THE RECORDS of these women, YOU WON’T GET to vote for an able, intelligent candidate. Because when you have one, they will be dismissed by liberal/conservative male alike as nothing more than “eye candy” or “ball breaker”.

Women…stop going along to get along. If you genuinely find it funny that people are calling these women, out of their names…then fine. But if there is a part of you that says, “You know, I don’t know this person, I can’t stand their politics or personae…but I don’t see male candidates getting this kind of sexist treatment.” Then for goodness sakes, stop being a coward…don’t worry about someone saying you don’t have a sense of humor. Don’t worry about someone telling you, you have a stick up your b*** because it’s “just a joke”. Let them know it’s wrong.

And by the way, I notice that people just love the, “new and improved”, Michelle Obama once she stopped talking, and started standing prettily (debatable) behind her husband in sheath dresses and pearls. Nary a nasty word about Laura Bush (relative to the other women)…I notice a trend there too…as long as you shut up don’t rock the boat and keep it simple, decorating or playing fashionista…with zero ambition…you’re A’ Okay with the media.

Clinton jokes a that time was bad no one liked them but you know what Hillary went and slept with the enemy, so one would take it no harm no foul, she forgave all the Obama loonies.

I can never understand up to this day why not after all that. Maybe the Obama fans now feel all women are like Hillary, cuss them, abuse them, slander their young children its ok, women will all come around and love and support their side no matter how they are abused, the more the abuse the greater the support.

Have any of you sat and thought Hillary encourage this kind of behavior in these Obama supporters? She was subjected to such and what did she do take it and still turned around and asked people to over look that and vote Obama.

It is full knowledge after the rude, disgusting and vile goings on that started a couple of years ago in CBS’s Big Brother with that pig who won it and his (underaged at the time of taping) daughter on the show, how CBS’s places ratings and low form of human actions and statements above deceny and morals. So long as Les Moonves gets his high ratings, no low is low enough as long as it brings the ratings along with it!

CBS learned then that smut, vile, degrading and narcisism sells ratings! Sad state when mainstream media sinks lower that Larry Flint in broadcasting garbage!

Fact is in the past Letterman had no problem using Bristol’s name when making jokes of her. His avoiding using a name this time was to avoid TV Censors from blocking that joke involving a minor in such a manner!

Will CBS do anything about Letterman, nope, don’t forget, CBS started this degrading of women a few years back when that disgusting, rude, vile, tattooed 40’something hippy and his (underage at the time of the show) daughter were on Big Brother and won the show. It is all about ratings and Les Moonves has learned then that degrading and vile acts towards women sells ratings and thus sells advertising space!

I tend to agree with Larry. The MSM and the Washington establishment are scared shitless of Sarah Palin. She has a genuine, folksy, empathetic charisma that they just don’t know how to handle.

In the nearly 5 decades I’ve been tuned in to politics, I’ve never seen ANYTHING like the treatment Sarah Palin and her family have had to endure. Sexually demeaning women and girls is not a legitimate target of humor unless the woman or girl in question is leading a moral crusade in public against certain behavior while she is engaging in the very conduct in private.

Wrong. Sexually demeaning women and girls is never OK. Not even for hypocrites. Not for any women. NOT EVER. Sexist “jokes” are verbal rape, and rape is never justified. Punishment should fit the crime. The punishment for hypocrisy is being called out as a hypocrite.

If I can’t make my point without sexist attacks, then I have no legitimate point to make. Besides, if you think men who enjoy degrading women make a distinction between those who deserve it and those who don’t, think again. If you make it OK to target one woman that way, it becomes OK to target any of us.

On June 8th 2009 Mr. Letterman “joked” that a female Governor of the United States is “slutty” and worse still, “joked” about her 14 year-old daughter and statutory rape by an adult baseball player. He continued his slander of this young girl during his June 9th show, likening her to a prostitute. I refuse to buy products from a company who supports such a vulgar, reprehensible attitude toward women and girls.

Netflix had a commercial toward the end of the Letterman show. I am a subscriber and I called them this morning 1-866-716-0414 to tell them I was going to cancel my subscription over this. They bill your credit card & I am paid up through 6/25. That gives them a few days to send me an email addressing this situation, or I am gone. I was polite, and the lady answering the phone said she would relay this to her supervisor.

On another blog, I stated my disgust at the Letterman jokes and was called every name in the book for defending Palin’s right to defend her children. I was called a right winger too. It was completely obvious that these attacks were coming from some young simple minds who don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground. It burns me up. The site was Digby. I found this to be a Very Undignified Demeaning comment to make about anyone…male or female…adult or child….

It was even more degrading since it was a underage child…..

It became even more inappropriately mortifying when Letterman tried to excuse his joke due to a mistake in which daughter he thought it was.(Age did not make it any better).

No matter who the comment had been directed to age, gender or otherwise…Whether the person was 1 to 99 in age, male or female, it was a VERY Appallingly Degrading joke.

For anyone to say that it was an ok comment on national TV dependant upon the age or whom it was, is actually putting themselves down.

Katie Couric all but held her hand and walked her though the questions. I’ve never seen an interviewer so soft-spoken when asking so not-so-hard questions of a Vice Presidential candidate. Okay, she didn’t coo like Sean Hannity but she was professional and kind.

Palin couldn’t have been more unprepared and the easier the question, the more flustered she seemed.

Regarding Bristol Palin having a baby at 18 years of age. The most desirable age to give birth is 19 in medical terms -both for the baby & mother.

In most societies the ideal age of first babies is 19.

So in Bristol’s case she is the realm of human biological health.

And lets face it – the baby was conceived as a result of actual sex -woohoo -dont we remember that!

Plus the baby was absolutely gorgeous .

OK, I sent out a lot of emails & phone calls to 800# to companies that advertise on The Tonight Show. I guess Netflix, Capitol One, General Motors, Ford, Nissan, Intel must think I am crazy–but one did respond. It was Olive Garden:

Your feedback will certainly be taken into consideration as we review our future advertising schedule.

I appreciate their response. They had the guts to email that they contacted CBS. I now will go spend my $ their again (they also own Red Lobster).

As for the others, well I am still waiting. Netflix will see me cancel my monthly automatic credit card payment in about a week. Capitol One can already see that I have stopped charging as of last Friday–using my other card. As for the others, I guess they think I will forget. Hell no I will not forget!

The companies I mentioned above are ones I have been a customer and/or a stockholder.

There are many other companies such as Best Buy, Lexus, Mazda, Microsoft, Samsung and Showtime which I did not send anything to them because I don’t use their product, service or just did not have the time. So, put the pressure on them too & there are others that I did not list.

David Letterman’s comments about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and one of her daughters has prompted a hotel chain to pull its advertising on CBS’ website — and spawned a campaign to fire the Late Show host that includes a planned protest outside his studio.

Embassy Suites, part of the Hilton Hotels Corp., pulled advertising on CBS’ site because of complaints, company spokeswoman Kendra Walker told TVGuide.com. The company was not an advertiser on Letterman’s show.

“We received lots of e-mails from concerned guests and we assessed that the statement that he made was offensive enough to our guests and prospective guests that we elected to take the ads down,” Walker said. She declined to release the cost of the ads.

CBS declined to comment Tuesday.

Letterman joked last week about Palin’s daughter being “knocked up” by Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. He later clarified that he was referring to 18-year-old Bristol Palin — who, he said “was knocked up.” But the Palin family and Letterman critics said he was referring to the governor’s 14-year-old daughter, Willow, who attended the Yankees game with her mother.

“It’s a disgraceful comment and it needs to be stopped,” said Michael Patrick Leahy, one of the organizers of the “Fire David Letterman” campaign. “It is totally inappropriate and disgraceful for a 62-year-old man to sexually insult a 14-year-old girl, period. These comments are more egregious than those of Don Imus, and CBS fired him for those comments.”

Leahy, who also helped organize the anti-tax “tea parties” in cities across the country earlier this year, estimated anywhere from 50 to 300 people would attend a protest planned outside Letterman’s studio in New York City on Tuesday.

The campaign has also urged advertisers, including Embassy Suites, to pull their ads.
