Bill Maher Complains About Obama – Chicken Little, The Sky Has Truly Fallen [Updated with Video]

Much as I hate giving Bill Maher press, I just can’t help myself. His article, Enough with the Obamathon, appearing in the Friday LA Times, lets us share our first up close and personal glimpse of Mr. Maher’s head exploding as he exhibits growing irritation with his messiah…:

President Obama should just join the cast of “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!” It’s not that farfetched; he’s been on everything else….(snip) …there’s a fine line between being transparent and being overexposed. Every time you turn on the TV, there’s Obama. He’s getting a puppy! He’s eating a cheeseburger with Joe Biden! …(snip) I get it: You love being on TV. I love my bong, but I take it out of my mouth every once in a while. The other day, I caught myself saying to a friend, “Don’t tell me if he’s fixed the economy yet, I’m Tivo-ing it.”
(snip)
You’re the president, not a rerun of “Law and Order.” Save some charisma for a rainy day. Taking strangers from a TV show on a tour of your house? We have that show; it’s called “Cribs.” And letting reporters ask you questions like “You like to be the one who picks out the shaving cream, don’t you?” Or as it’s called today, “journalism.” I was willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt until I saw him take Brian Williams into his bedroom, and at the end of the bed there was a teleprompter and it said, “Who’s your daddy?”

…we see your name in the paper a lot, but we’re kind of wondering when you’re actually going to do something.

Are ya’ kiddin’ me, Bill? We’ve been saying this for two years! But it took YOU two years of idol worship to finally find a halfway coherent moment? Mr. Maher, snarky as ever, states:

Remember during the campaign when John McCain attacked Obama for acting like a celebrity and we all laughed at the grumpy old shellshocked fool? Well, it turns out he was right. Sorry, senator. I’m sending a nice gift basket of high-fiber muffins your way.

Well, no, Bill. WE didn’t laugh at Senator McCain because WE didn’t find him grumpy, old or shell-shocked. YOU did. WE knew he was spot on the money. And Hillary Clinton was also spot on the money when she said:

“Senator McCain and I bring a lifetime of service, Senator Obama has a speech he gave in 2002.”

But you were so busy trashing her on your show every week, it never once occurred to you to appreciate the work she had actually done in her career standing up for those who needed help. And the list is long. As much bashing as Secretary Clinton took during the grueling eighteen month campaign, and as happy as you were to chime in, did you not for once admire her toughness in being able to handle it all with such grace, class and fortitude. She’s a fighter. Don’t you think that quality would have been nice to have, particularly in light of your next comments about President Obama:

“…[W]hen I read about how you sat on the sidelines while bailed-out banks used the money we gave them to hire lobbyists who got Congress to stop homeowners from getting renegotiated loans, or how Congress is already giving up on healthcare reform, or how scientists say it’s essential to reduce CO2 by 40% in 10 years, but your own bill calls for 4%, I say, enough with the character development, let’s get on with the plot.

And let’s stop worrying so much about doing anything that might tarnish the brand. See, this is why I don’t want my president to be a TV star: Because TV stars are too worried about being popular — and too concerned with getting renewed.
(snip)
Obama needs to start putting it on the line in fights against the banks, the energy companies and the healthcare industry. I never thought I’d say this, but he needs to be more like George W. Bush. Bush was all about, “You’re with us or against us.”
Obama’s more like, “You’re either with us, or you obviously need to see another picture of this adorable puppy!”

Bush had horrible ideas, …[t]he point is, he didn’t care if it made him unpopular with every human on the planet not named Cletus or Fred Barnes. Which it did.
And we need to marry the good ideas Obama really believes in with that Bush attitude and Bush certitude.”

I’m afraid you’re missing the point, Mr. Maher, as are most of his die hard supporters. President Obama doesn’t have moral certitude about anything but popularity polls and his TelePrompTer. How would you like the man to attack a problem with certitude? He has never exhibited any throughout his entire career. Believe me, this is not about insulting the President. Frankly I am beyond it, or worrying about it. This is about logic and common sense. So, for the one thousandth time: You can’t know what you don’t know.

Throughout President Obama’s career as a State Senator, with 130 “present” votes and six “wrong” votes, his missing over 40% of his votes in the U.S. Senate, dodging politically risky votes, or voting several times to fund Bush’s war, he has shown a proclivity NOT to lose. His career is no accident. Every move is deliberately and painstakingly plotted out to piss off as few people as possible before actually winning the office of the Presidency.

We never saw him willing to go to the mat for anything. He promised to use public financing and reneged. Moreover, there was no principle or legislation for which he was willing to “go down fighting.” He promised a filibuster on FISA and reneged. Believe me, had he staged that filibuster, it would have been the Senate session heard ‘round the world. Imagine him, sans teleprompter, fighting the good fight till he ran out of spit. You know what, Hillary would have taken over for him and helped out while he caught his wind – because she voted correctly on that bill. That’s the difference between a leader with guts and a “reader.”

If the man’s forte has always been giving speeches, without any governing and precious little legislative experience, if he had not heretofore exhibited leadership on any cause, except talking about it, what potion did you imagine he could ingest on Inauguration Day that would magically endow him with powers he had never previously exhibited? I always appreciated SoS Clinton and Senator McCain because we have the empirical evidence to indicate they had the courage to stand alone and fight. I knew they were both capable of it. Sir, from what mysterious inner reserve did you think Barack Obama would draw this strong character you are so vehemently exhorting him to show now?

You conclude with:

I’m glad that Obama is president, but the “Audacity of Hope” part is over. Right now, I’m hoping for a little more audacity.

Even in your diatribe, you pepper your article with how much you like him and how glad you are that he is in office, as if to apologize for the fact that you dare to criticize “The One.” Frankly, Mr. Maher, this is the first time in two years when you should NOT be apologizing because your criticisms are the first sensible words I’ve heard from you in regards to President Obama.

Choices have consequences, Bill.

Enjoy your higher federal taxes AND the coming economic apocalypse in California.

You chose a celebrity. You got him.

You OWN it.

most women haters are still walking 10 steps behind the rest of us so what do we expect from Maher?

he’s a wounded spiteful man that found a venue to spew that would pay him for it – one that’s NOT in politics

he’s also a troll (walks the walk, talks the talk, even looks the part)

Yeah, Mary.

NEW RULES, Bill:

1. You voted for it, “YOU OWN
IT!”

2. Forget the bong. You need to take BO’s ding dong out of your….
[I just couldn't resist that one, folks.]

3. If you say you’re still glad BO is your president, you still don’t get it.

This should be a new thread in itself, but please feel free to add other “New Rules” to the list above.

Now Obummer can work on pissing off all of us at once. From what I can hear, online and around the local store, he’s managing to do just that. And as for Bill Maher.. the other posters are right.. he owns it, and so do the rest of the blathermouths who pushed this empty suit on the country. They should hang their heads in shame. They won’t, but they should.

Just maybe some of them will also want to see all the missing records they never asked for before…Just maybe they will put some $$$ into getting Obama’s school records, college records, birth records, passport records as they did with Palin…

Oh, wait, Bill, haven’t you been in bed with Brian and the Prez all along? You’ve made your orgiastic bed, now lie in it … and I hope you’re f$%%^cked royally!

Thanks Ani — on my own I would never have read a word of that nincompoop.

I gave up on Bill Maher about 2 years ago. He talked a lot and said nothing important. Beating on HRC seemed to be his main goal in life. I hope he and the other hopey changey followers wake up to reality at some point and realise they are getting screwed and that BHO doesn’t care.

Comment by No-nonsense-Nancy | 2009-06-13 14:56:25

These obots can change their minds and talk all they want against the fraud now but they still disgust me because it is because of them that we are stuck with him now. Untill they all hit the streets with us SOON and demand some answers from him they still get no respect from me.

Don’t forget, it is because of many of these same people that we also got Bush in 2000. I can’t tell you how many friends of mine who I fought with in 2000 because they were determined to vote for Nader (including “friends” in Florida) proclaiming that there was “no difference between Gore and Bush” and “even if Bush wins, how bad can he be.” These are the same nimrods who then turned around and accosted me for not worshipping at Obama’s feet in 2008 when I expressed grave doubts about the man’s experience and moral center. This political naivete of a similar crowd has been dangerous for a long time. Believe me, even after they turn on Obama, there will be some other demagogue or vague, nonsensical “cause” they will embrace which will be just as dangerous. Be vigilant!

(And, yes – I wonder too why they are still my “friends.”)

Comment by Northwest rain | 2009-06-13 15:36:26

I doubt that they are YOUR friends. You might be tolerant of jackasses — but THEY are intolerant of critical thinkers.

Terrific article. Too bad it’s wasted on a chowderhead like Maher.

He can’t understand how Obumble can’t seem to get off TV and do some governing. Or why he can’t seem to take a stand against the banks and corporations.

Gee, Bill, maybe if you put the bong down long enough to pay attention you’d know that Obumble has been in bed with the corportates all along. How do you think he’s paying off all those illegal campaign contributions and the unions.

This is a man who has never governed anything in his life and has only been told how wonderful he is. So all he knows how to do is make speeches that other people write for him.

He’s what happens when the Peter Principle and affirmative action come together with millions of mind numbingly stupid pseudo intellectuals telling you how brilliant you are. You get the perfect storm of an over inflated moron elevated to a position way beyond his capacity for comprehension.

Thanks to likes of you, Bill, the Catty Couric’s of the lamestream media, the spineless wonders of the DNC, and a generally uneducated public, we’re all stuck in a commode and they keep telling us it’s a boat.

Comment by Docelder | 2009-06-13 15:48:13

Geez, maybe it would be an idea to elect somebody for leadership qualities and not for popularity. Because let’s face it, doing the right thing seldom makes one popular. Being popular means never doing anything which is hard. The “present” button should have been the first clue. But all clues were buried in the feel good moment of “history”. Well, we had the choice between making “history’ and electing a man who has literally done everything for this country… short of dying for it. Those of you who voted for the feel good candidate… own him, he is yours. He is not ours… he is yours alone. Deal with it.

Comment by lorac | 2009-06-13 16:15:26

“But all clues were buried in the feel good moment of “history”. Well, we had the choice between making “history’ and electing a man who has literally done everything for this country… short of dying for it.”

It drove me crazy how the bots kept saying “we have to make history”. Never a thought to that electing a woman would not only be historical in this country, but worldwide, as there are black countries that always have black leaders, but far fewer countries with female leaders.

And of course, to your point, that “making history” should be the icing on the cake – the cake itself has to have substance and should be the first priority.

Comment by RJB | 2009-06-17 18:25:49

George Bush exhibited leadership? Bubba was too stupid to understand what the word leadership means. (too many letters in the word for Georgie)

Comment by lorac | 2009-06-13 15:49:15

“That’s the difference between a leader with guts and a “reader.””

I especially like this – the leader vs. the reader.

I gave up on Maher during the primaries, when he was attacking Hillary. But before that, I did tolerate his rampant objectificaton of women in general (I don’t even know why now). This is a guy who doesn’t believe in committed relationships, and who thinks the best life for a guy is the one he leads, which is a life of one-night-stands. IMO, that’s not a man who values women for anything other than what they can give him.

In other words, he has SO much to grow up about besides his man-crush on BO, that I have little hope for him. But I do believe that even little steps like this by people in the public light are the beginnings of something bigger in the general populace.

Comment by Mary | 2009-06-13 16:10:51

Maher and Letterman and Olbermann have MUCH to learn about their childish attitudes toward women.

Silly frat boys, one and all.

Comment by lorac | 2009-06-13 16:08:11

During the primaries, we (including Hillary) were saying, “what has he DONE to justify your support of him”, and their only answer was his WORDS about what he WOULD do, because his only record was of avoiding taking a stand on things, as Ani has pointed out.

It occurred to me that hammering on “what has he done?” is still relevant, because he is now forced to start having a record, and it doesn’t match up with his words.

It’s like the joke about certain parents, “do as I say, not as I do”, but for BO, it’s “pay attention to what I say, not to what I do”.

When I talk about BO now, I always say, I don’t want to hear about what he SAYS, all I want to discuss is what he DOES.

Comment by Diana L. C. | 2009-06-13 21:31:29

Yep–and you can bet your life savings that when O’s administration starts to implode, these people with their new-found wisdom will claim they were the first to see through him. After all, we were nust a bunch of gnats buzzing around the political scene earlier and how would we REALLY be able to know anything.

Diana L. C.: (”these people with their new-found wisdom will claim they were the first to see through him. After all, we were just a bunch of gnats buzzing around the political scene earlier and how would we REALLY be able to know anything.”)

OR, we were conspiracy theorists, liberals turned racists, were stubborn as mules not to embrace the ‘change’ candidate who was offering us so much, were old-school, set in our ways and stuck in a time warp. Take your pick! We were berated almost as badly as Hillary.

These same people that acted bewildered at my aversion to this candidate/nominee/POTUS know that my aversion gets stronger with each passing day. Most of them are no longer trying to defend him because they cannot. They also realize I am up-to-date and better versed on his presidency than they are. I’m convinced we will prevail on what we tried desperately to tell people who would not listen. Look at Richard Wolffe – he looks like a fool! In response to the other NewsWeek guy who proclaimed that Ozero was like God, my 0bama-supporting daughter actually said, “that is ridiculous!”

As opposed to BO, who had powers willing to cheat and run a massive (based on lies) PR campaign, so that he has never really had to feel our discontent. I really believe that Mr. Thin Skin can’t handle any criticism, let alone the kind that Hillary (or Palin) has had to deal with.

When enough people become dissatisifed that it reaches a critical mass and he loses his American Idol adulation, I think he’ll have a nervcous breakdown.

Comment by Ellen D | 2009-06-14 01:28:58

Actually that’s another aspect of Hillary, John McCain, Sarah Palin, and even G W Bush that you have to admire. They have had the most horrible things said about them and they keep going uncomplainingly. I doubt that will be the case with Obama.

Comment by IndieDogg | 2009-06-13 16:34:24

Many wrote much during the recent POTUS campaign, on and on, to good purpose, though perhaps to an unsatisfactory outcome, but the point: A lot of words and argument back and forth.

The one question, during this time, I asked over and over of BHO supporters, which was never answered, was this:

What has this man DONE (as opposed to said) in his public life to this point in time that suggests he is prepared or qualified to be President of the United States?

Never got an answer.

Not from down-his-nose Maher or any of his band of brown nosed revolutionaries.

To paraphrase Popeye: He is what he is.

Whatever that is.

Thanks, Ani, for this right-on article about Maher. I, too, stopped listening to him about 2 years ago when he started all the attacks on Hillary. I used to be a regular viewer of his show on HBO during the Bush/Cheney years as he seemed to direct his venom/rapier wit toward the stupidity of that administration. He was a voice in the wilderness during those years.

Your comments are so perfect, reflecting what so many Hillary (and maybe McCain supporters here—I for one voted for McCain/Palin—first time ever voting Republican) supporters have gone through and are now sometimes restraining ourselves from saying, “I told you so,” to those Obots.

I do check Maher’s guests to see if I can stomach watching the program and if it looks like he will have some voices of reason, not over the top Obots, on his program, I may watch it. Jeremy Scahill who has been a major Blackwater watcher/critic is on every once in awhile this year, and he has been critical of Obama still using and increasing the use of private contractors in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I may watch it if he is one of the guests, but for the most part it is not one of the shows I watch any more.

Once again, thank you for voicing what so many of us have thought and felt about what has transpired with the American Idolization of BHO and the horrific Hillary bashing.

Comment by Ani | 2009-06-13 18:22:47

I haven’t yet got to the “I told you so” point with my obamabot friends and family, but it’s getting closer and closer. I save posts like this so I have all kinds of ammunition when I’m ready.

But, sadly, as others have pointed out, I will get no joy out of saying this to them. I am angry with them for giving us this American Idol, first celebrity as POTUS.

Ani, thanks for posting this. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Religulous” was the last piece of Maher I let into my system. I found it so pompous and self-serving. (like the candidate he supported.)

I just posted this comment to his article:

You found religion! you’ve awakened! BUT IT IS TOO LATE for our country!

Bill, WHY did you spend so much energy flogging Hillary Clinton during the primaries?

Couldn’t you have taken the bong out of your mouth long enough to have gotten a CLUE that you and all your media cronies were backing a CELEBRITY, not a leader? We could have had a great Democratic prez. You fools didn’t hear our warning. Hope that bong gets you through til 2012.

Doesn’t it crack you up that in an article that insists on Obama certitide, that little Billy ends his diatribe — without certitude.

Maher still likes Obama, even though Obama is a gutless sheet-fer-brains….gotta wonder about Maher.

Comment by Babs | 2009-06-13 18:27:11

Great post, Ani. I do take issue with Maher’s statement “there’s a fine line between being transparent and being overexposed”. No, Mr. Maher, there is a huge difference between being transparent and being overexposed, and Obama is clearly using exposure in place of transparency. The press follows him around like groupies, two planeloads of press for a “date night” in New York, for Gawd’s sake, while back in DC the real damage is being done by his minions like Holder and the DOJ, with little press if any at all. Obama and his traveling circus are the decoy, and it’s time for the press to stay in DC and write about what’s really going on in this government, with or without its “celebrity” leader.

Comment by Ani | 2009-06-13 18:57:02

Your decoy comment is spot on. It really does feel like he is the salesman-in-chief, offering up bread and circuses to distract the masses with sleight of hand, while all manner of mess is going on behind the scenes.

Comment by Ashy1 | 2009-06-14 00:23:56

Great post, Ani. Obama is a con man and a good talker and that is what he does best. A reader, not a leader–I love that, too, and so true.

I used to enjoy Maher’s humor, but I’ve lost all respect for him. The last time I saw him was in “Religulous” which was interesting, but also turned out to be a piece of propaganda and released right before the elections–another reason I have come to despise him. I really do think his head is about to explode. I will enjoy watching when Maher finally realizes how big a fool he is. It seems odd that he could be so observant and critical of other politicians, but remain ignorant or let Obama slide on all the information that was out there prior to the elections. O-bots will pay the price for being brain dead and, unfortunately, so will the rest of us.

Comment by FranSC | 2009-06-14 02:02:53

Their over-the-top ‘date night’ silliness is really getting old! Who in their right mind thinks these expensive, taxpayer jaunts, with a double press corp covering their every bite are resulting in benefits to this couple’s marriage? Every night should be ‘date night’ for them after the prize they have landed, albeit ill-gotten gain!

Yes, Ani, which brings back the ever-present question in the back of my mind, “Who is really running this country?” Obama is the shill, but whose product is he selling?

Comment by FranSC | 2009-06-14 02:21:28

Babs, to answer your question of who is really running the country. It’s Nancy Pelosi’s domestic agenda that puts her before the cameras each and every day with 0zero making appearances supporting it, but looking like it is HIS agenda.

Hillary and the envoys are handling the world problems with one exception: the only original ideas of 0’s has been his great confidence in himself to single-handedly end terrorism and the problems of the Islamic world by showing them he is one of them. He proves that by again and again telling them of his muslem heritage and being a constant reminder that he looks like them as well. He can point to nothing else.

Mommy make it stop.

Comment by Martha Washington Collier | 2009-06-13 20:18:34

Yep. I was burned out on him during the campaign and he’s been on tee vee daily ever since he moved in to the WH. I think it’s to keep his followers entranced. He has become completely ridiculous these past few weeks though with his attempts to be “cute” and self glorify. Giving the kid a hand written excuse note for missing school to come to see him was gag worthy. Just the sort of thing his followers fawn over and talk about for days. Pretty repugnant.

Excellent post, Ani. I, too, stopped watching Maher when he became such a slobbering fan of Zero. I could no longer justify watching this woman hating silly boy. His attitudes toward women were bad enough before the campaign but with the Zero’s bashing women coming and going, he seemed to really hit his stride. He’s the a perfect example demonstrating how emotionally retarded addicts are. He isn’t awake enough for me to tune into his show again and I doubt that he has the capacity to change his locked up attitudes…mental constipation.

Thanks again.

Ani — thank you for the intestinal fortitude to read any of Maher’s swill and report on it. I’m extremely pleased that he said those things finally, but I’m not impressed that he’s actually waking up to reality. People with their heads stuck up their asses are still in the dark no matter how much they protest.

Thanks for posting this, Ani. I never would’ve begun to read this OpEd on my own if I saw who the author was. Like others have said, I quit watching Maher about the same time I quit watching Jon Stewart and Colbert, so thanks for bringing this to our attention. It’s a good read.

“Analysts” like Maher confounded me the most during the primaries. Here was B”H”O claiming that he was an agent of change in government. For the eight years that H was in the state senate, why didn’t we hear of an Illinois public service revolution? Because H was about keeping the business as usual machine of Chicago running as smoothly as possible. And Maher is surprised that H is keeping his MO going strong in Washington? So now you’re getting a brain, Bill? It’s a little late for that….

H is the same old W.

Thanks for the informative post.
As for Maher, eff him and the horse he rode in on, as we say in Texas.

Good piece, Ani. I read this Maher essay the other day and thought: uh oh, the veneer is beginning to crack. Andrew Sullivan, a frequent Maher guest, is beside himself over the DOJ’s recent release on same sex marriage and there are even rumblings at the Daily Kos and The Democratic Underground on a number of issues.

But Liberal Rapture has been running a tag line recently that sums it up beautifully:

We knew Obama was a fraud before it was cool . . .

Sums it up for me. Obamatrons better start sucking it up. They’ve been played for fools. Too bad we all have to suffer for their stupidity.

I don’t mean to be uncharitable but Maher is truly one of the ugliest most revolting men I’ve ever had the displeasure to behold. If he was at least attractive on the inside he would be more palatable but between him and I’maNutJob from Iran I’m forced to change channels. UGH!

Ani–great analysis of what we knew way back in the primaries. I have been watching Maher again when I can stomach it –he’s been calling Obama the Black Elvis for a few shows now. And I was amazed last night by his Obama-as-Celebrity Rant.

Thanks for the link to the LA Times–I really enjoyed reading the comments. Sounds like there is a lot of agreement with the sentiment.

Now that the middle class will have their health care benefits taxed and Rahm Emanuel’s brother has been hired to study the feasibility of a national 10% sales tax more people will be getting outraged.

Obama never cared about the middle class except for their votes. His allegiance is with the rich who paid for his election (who are getting the TARP monies) and the poor from his community organizer days. All those white middle class folks who “felt so good” voting for a Black man are going to be surprised when they’re the ones who pick up the tab for all his programs and bail outs.

Bill, this is one of those momments you should your bong down.

I do not care if Senators Clinton or McCain were not to your liking. I heard through the grapevine you are attending a Kool-aid treatment center for Obamaholics.

I will not be watching you anytime soon. Eating crow isn’t good enough for you. You and Matt oughta hurry ’cause your meal ticket just went out with the tide.

Why is it righteous stoner’s are the last to the realize they are getting screwed?

Bill is so “Dude where my Dell?” he mistooke toilet paper for Cheech and Chong rolling papers and still managed to roll a fatty outa his BS.

Classic CYA. Maher sees the backlash coming and he’s offering a pittance of criticism — just in case. He wants documented evidence that he wasn’t always completely and blindly devoted to The One.

Comment by catherine | 2009-06-14 06:51:37

Exactly! But we will NEVER EVER let them forget. Someone should make a documentary of the sickening cult of personality that was created, enabled and perpetuated by the media and Hollywood.

Seriously, let it always be there as a public indictment and reminder of all the little Goebbels of 2007-2008.

Comment by candymarl | 2009-06-14 07:29:12

Obama has a clear record of getting his opposition off of the ballot and out of the running. When Hillary wouldn’t go he called out the media dogs. But that was okay.

When Obama broke his word about FISA, domestic spying, ending the wars, using Blackwater, and public campaign financing that was okay too.

When the majority of Americans were against the banker bailouts and car company bailouts and Obama (as well as GWB but what did you expect?) went along with them that was okay.

When Obama gave taxpayer monies to GM on the premise that GM was too big to fail but GM went into bankruptcy anyway that was okay.

Mr. Maher didn’t you see a pattern here? The man has a history of going back on his word (see Chicago public housing) and taking credit for other peoples work while doing little or nothing.

Why is Maher surprised? Mr. Transparency has had his records sealed. But nothing to see here. Move along.

We now know the answer to why Obama doesn’t stay in the Whitehouse that much and loves to travel. He needs a smoke.

Ani,

Blah, blah, blah… your same BS critique is getting boring.

In five months the new direction the democrats and Obama have taken the country is remarkable.

He is doing a very good job in a very bad situation.

Maher can complain that things are not happening as fast as he wants them to happen (environment, healthcare, etc), but it has only been five months in what is likely going to be 8 years.

On all the big immediate issues Obama is beginning to suceed. The bail-outs are working (stabilized the financial system and some of the money is coming back), the economy has bottomed (likely helped by the stimulus, which at the very least changed the psychology), there is more honesty about the wars, the the focus has shifted to Afganistan, where it should have been from the beginning, for a relatively small investment in Detroit, a major part of the manufacturing base of this country might be saved, healthcare, with most likely a public option is being addressed for the first time, getting the country on a more moral track in denouncing torture and attempting to close Guanteamo is a new right direction, reaching out for a new relationship with the 1.5 billion muslims on this planet is the right long-term direction, etc. etc. etc.

Really remarkable what has been achieved in 5 months.

You may have a different view of the world and on these policies. Fine, but too bad. You lost the election and this is the direction the country wants to go.

Ani, your constant critique suggests your massive nievete of politics and you cannot see the forest from the trees. Anyone can be a critic. That is very easy.

Comment by Onofre's arm | 2009-06-14 14:29:01

I can only imagine the horribly painful withdrawal and DT’s you’ll experience when your supply of touchy/feely magic kool-aid is cut off by the realities of the world. A collaboration of cold hard facts may be the only effective form of intervention that could force such die-hard obots as yourself into a 12 step program. You have our sympathies.

But it is quite interesting to note that Bill Maher seems to have enough sense to begin his own detox.

Comment by ummm | 2009-06-16 00:23:55

Oh your too funny.

Where to begin-how about comparing Obama before the election and then after. Before-against free trade, for single payer health care, against the war in Iraq, against torture, against spying, for openess in government, against DOMA, against dont ask dont tell and so forth.

After the election-he has switched on every position either by his words or actions.

I know its sad that Obama is not “the one’ after all (sniff sniff) but as time goes by and as it becomes clearer and clearer that he is actually a very ineffective leader I hope that the idea that the Clintons could have done so much more to help the country with their vast experience and intellect does not torment you-much.

Comment by trixta | 2009-06-16 13:04:51

Poor J! I guess s/he’ll finally get it on the day that Obama taxes individual CO2 output and flatulence as part of his Cap and Trade policy. Until then, revel in your ignorance cause when reality hits you’ll be beside yourself. I suggest you begin your OMethadrone treatment for your Hopium addiction now because your withdrawal will be excruciating.

BTW, Ani has more political savvy and critical faculties than you can ever dream of having. I think this is why you are so bothered by her spot on analyses of The One.

The bailoutsare working? On what planet? Even the Obama administration has admitted the stimulus plan did not work and they need more. I respectfully suggest you monitor your own koolaid a little more closely instead of coming here to insult me or others.

If even Maher – one of his biggest champions can see he is in the pocket of corporations, I cannot imagine why you cannot. A moral track by denouncing torture? That is great — how about ending signing statements? How about stopping Blackwater instead of increasing their number? How about his proposal of “preventive detention”? He has gone even further than Bush. Please take a moment to do your homework before insulting others.

Judging by the posts here, there’s a sense of decency and steadfastness of spirit–whether the posters supported McCain or Hillary. The key thing is everyone writing here has been right 99% of the time! Maher, the latent pedophile-jerk Letterman and Leno were some the most venomous Hillary-haters. Maher’s turning around and Leon got bashed and now Letterman may have gone up a bit after his sexist pedophiliac comment (unlike IMUS, he didn’t get fired!)but he’ll slip down the slimey ladder he’s climbed very soon… He has erred morally and professionally with his disgusting comment.
Reading UNDERESTIMATING HILLARY on Salon.com and reading someone else (another 30-something woman journalist) on the Daily Beast, I am convinced the List of Obamyopics that’s gaining their sight and sanity is growing. OBAMYOPIA is a curable affliction.

Thanks ANI for being such a HEALER….very astute! The Obamyopics List begging to be cured is growing…

Thanks for the link to L.a. Times. I can’t believe the epiphany that’s running rampant in the “Comments” section. I’d say it’s 90% anti-Celebrity-Obama. The Obamabots have decided to stop buying the Kool-aid. One guy wrote “I stopped watching Obama since his first debate with Hillary when I made up my mind he was an ‘unqualified idiot’”
The comments were 95% anti-Obama-celeb. Unbelievable! Yes, the Obamyopic sky’s fast falling on the heads of the faithful…
I love this commenter’s: “Will someone please tell Obama that he’s won the Election and can stop campaigning?”
Amen.

Funny how this dirt bag can not admit he was wrong, “I gave him the benefit of the doubt”-what doubt Maher-anyone who looked at his record-actually anyone who looked at is campaign could see he had no principals and would do anything to be popular.

He courted gays and people who hate gays, he courted bankers and people who hated bankers, the rich and the poor, the intellectuals and the mob, people for free trade and people against, republicans and democrats, women haters and feminists-he claimed he was going to change politics and bring everyone together. The Clintons pointed out that barring divine intervention that was not possible-his story was a fairy tale.

Now Bill Maher wakes up and agrees (although he is too much of a worm to give the Clintons credit)-go back to sleep Bill and stay there.

Comment by Ani | 2009-06-16 01:50:26

Furthermore, Maher just went on Olbermann’s show tonight to defend the reasons why he was speaking out against Obama — can you imagine it — he feels he needs to go on an apology tour for criticizing “The One”. This is amazing.

Thanks for your comments.
