Health Care For All, Cries Obama! Oh - Except For One Group!

Oh, the irony is just too rich. Some of you may have heard that President Obama decided the other day, after getting hammered by the LGBT community over DADT and DOMA, to grant LGB federal employees partner benefits by Executive Decision. Kind of. First, it begs the question, if he could have done this all along, why the hell DIDN’T he? Second, does he EVER do something right just because it is the right thing to do??? In this case, once again, Secretary Clinton laid the groundwork for this, pledging to give ALL State Diplomats the same rights and benefits. So, it isn’t even like this was his bright idea, and he wanted to fulfill some of his (empty) campaign promises. Nope - just more “follow the leader,” pandering, and band-aide attempts to try and shut us up.
No, this latest attempt was more of the same kind of response Obama had when the GLBT community was up in arms over his choice of Pastor Rick Warren to give his Inauguration Prayer. After days and days of people complaining to the high heavens, he decided to have Bishop Gene Robinson, the openly gay Episcopal bishop, give the invocation at the Sunday Inaugural Concert event preceding the Inauguration. Except get this - he had HBO take Robinson OUT of the piece they aired on tv. I am not making this up. They couldn’t believe it, either. Eventually, it was agreed he would appear in later broadcasts, but not the one aired at the time.
So, after his backtrack on DADT, despite his campaign assurances; after his backstabbing on DOMA, in which it was made QUITE clear by Obama just who is worthy to be married (and it ain’t me); we get this half hearted attempt on his part to make it up to us. So, he will give SOME benefits to the partners of GLB employees except - wait for it - HEALTH CARE (and a H/T to alert NQ Reader, Mary, for this). You know, the big huge issue he’s going to be pushing on the All Barack Company propaganda channel “forum” coming up, the one he thinks should be for ALL people - except the partners of GLB Federal employees. As one friend (who’s heterosexual, by the way) said, it looks to her like all he’s willing to give in terms of Federal Benefits is moving expenses, to which she responded, “whoopee.”
Here’s a panel discussion on this very topic on Anderson Cooper 360 (H/T to American Girl in Italy for this):
C’mon, you gotta admit the absurdity of that is just laughable. Except that, once again, we are talking about real people and real lives, and one group still getting the short end of the stick.
Once, just ONCE, wouldn’t it be nice if Obama actually walked the walk without being FORCED to do something to cover his backside after he screwed up? To do the just act, the right act, the honorable act without all of the drama? Without trashing someone first, like in the DOMA brief? Or the brief to the Supreme Court over DADT? I’m just sayin’ - it would be nice if he were that kind of person. But he isn’t. And once again, we are talking about Obama’s lame attempts to placate us, to try and keep a voting bloc together. That may work for some (Kool-Aide drinking) people, but not for most of us.
All his false promises, and half hearted attempts, won’t change that.

LOL!
And the wheels start coming off the little orange Obama bus…
God help me, I went there and read the statement. This line made me laugh:
It must have killed DK to say that much. We’ll really know they’ve turned a corner when we read:
Now I’ve got to run a virus-check on my computer.
It’s always all about one Clinton or another with the ObamaBorgs–the avant guard of Collective Thought!
I noticed that too. Now the Clintons are the bad guys with hardly a whisper about the damage GWB did.
NEWS FLASH - Bill Clinton has been out of the WH for over 8 years. I guess in between no one was in the WH. Odd, that.
roflol Candyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Hey I think perhaps the LGBT community better get in line with the rest of the country that BAMBI is dumping all over!!
Where were they when this blog and a few others that are friends to DOROTHY were crying out HYPOCRITE all over the DEMS this go round?
I always gave them (as a whole) much more credit for being intelligent perhaps than I should have?
I admit I only (personally) have a handful of GLBT friends and all but ONE is no longer emailing me since I crossed over for Palin.
I’ve heard from ONE. He’s not admitted yet he made a huge ass mistake but the fact he’s emailing me again must mean something. I guess I’ll have to ask him one of these days. I hope he doesn’t get upset when I tell him “i told you so” ya brat!
oh and THANKS for TRUSTING ME!! NOT
Thanks for keeping We the People informed, R3 Amy. Hillary does, Obama says, and Americans are starting to notice the difference.
I wonder how long before he starts cannibalizing Hillary’s Healthcare Plan?
Texas, well said - you are exactly right!!
I can’t bring myself to go to the Kos link but I also can’t believe the headline. Typical to try and connect Obama with Clinton. These really are children who never bothered to find out what Clinton was up against from the very start. Tell them to look up another of Obama’s favorite supporters a former Democratic Senator by the name of Sam Nunne from Georgia. He’s responsible for DADT. It was the best we could get after President Clinton so bravely acknowleged us and our struggle his very first day in office. Quite different from Obama’s homophobia. Me thinks Obama is very afraid of looking like he supports gays for some reason. We’ve all read the studies on why that may be (Oprah did a show on it). If you know what I mean.
I’ll always remember when Hillary asked what they, the ObamaBorg didn’t like about Clinton’s Presidency–was it The Peace or The Prosperity?
Glen, I believe you are right. That BO may very well be a closeted-gay man is perhaps the most likely reason why he is so reluctant to fight the good fight for LGBT civil rights.
Yes. I loved when she said that. Frankly, one of the biggest turnoffs of Obama (and there are many) was/is his constant demonizing of the Clinton’s. I mean, they are from the same party, for gawds sake. Clinton accomplished many things that Obama could only hope to do. Honestly, it seems like Obama wasn’t paying attention or isn’t a good historian because his views of the Clinton years is inaccurate and bizarre.
It was only a few weeks ago when Obama criticized how the Clinton’s tried to pass universal health care coverage, making snotty little remarks like they didn’t compromise enough, etc. (Which is SO inaccurate). They basically had the health industry and the GOP defeat it by spending 500 million dollars to scare the hell out of people.
Obama doesn’t have any kind of opposition like that, has a majority Congress, and he’s already losing the health care battle. He thinks he can just dictate that he wants universal health care and it will happen, because he is sooo much better than the Clinton’s. Whatever.
Didn’t BO resurrect the notorious Harry-and-Louise adds during the primaries against Clinton?
Shame on you, Barrack Obama!
, to grant LGB federal employees partner benefits by Executive Decision
*********
Obama didn’t grant sh*t to anyone. The so called benefits are already available. The Obama memorandum ordered heads of govt depts to review their policies and report back in 90 days. The scam is a scam. People need to read the fine print rather than reporting the MSM spin.
The MSM, that never fails to show it’s worship of all things Obama, strikes again.
Obama has a history of doing little or nothing and taking credit for the work of those before him.
Obama has made much of his career out of this type of behavior.
MSM: Hoodwinked, bamboozled, and falling for the same old Okey Dokey!
Thanks for the info SHV.
Glen - I’m with you - won’t go to Daily Kos. Thanks for the comment.
And SHV, point well taken. I mean, I didn’t think anything he said was abt the benefits meant anything ANYWAY, but especially what he CLAIMED to be giving was a whole lot of not much…
Great comments, folks…
Obama’s Government Health Care? You may not want it at all after reading what the Government run VA Health Care does for it’s people.
http://www.aegis.com/news/mh/2009/MH090310.html
Seems the VA is guilty of not following simple sterile procedures which have put veterans across the nation at risk of contracting HIV AIDS and Hepatitis. This is what American citizens will have to look forward to under Obama’s Government Controlled Socialized Health Care.
Sorry, but the PRIVATE health care industry has had its own (more than fair) share of dangerous actions when it comes to the public.
How many hospitals have had such shoddy working conditions that led to rapid increases in staph infections (leading to many, especially elderly, patients dying after fairly routine surgeries)?
What about the many nursing home facilities, all over the country, that have been shut down after state investigations into sub-standard treatment of residents?
Hell, even the site you linked has an article condemning a major drugstore chain for keeping condoms under lock and key. It should be noted that is NOT a government-run company, but rather a FOR-PROFIT business. The site also posts a note concerning the condemnation of CA’s Governor Schwarzenegger’s decision to, not just cut, but severely slash the state’s HIV/AIDS budget because of the state’s budget crisis.
But, keep harping about the “socialist health care” system. While we have tens of millions of people who have NO insurance at all, and tens of millions more with very little insurance, or otherwise inadequate, coverage, yeah, let’s all worry about the “creeping socialized medicine”. We’ve just been dealing with a pretty unusual flu crisis (wherein the most seriously affected were otherwise healthy young adults, unlike typical flu strains which hit the elderly and very young the hardest), but, no let’s worry about the conservative canard of “socialized medicine”.
I’ll tell you this much–I’ve been in private doctors’ offices WITH an appointment, and have been forced to wait up to an hour after my scheduled appointment. That was a PRIVATE practice. And you really think that it’s really all that much worse under “socialized medicine”? Many Americans are currently told to put off serious, and necessary, surgery while the fucking insurance companies keep saying they won’t cover the procedure. And speaking of the insurance companies, what about some that require you to get pre-approval before you can be rushed to the hospital in an ambulance because that’s what the insurance policy demands? (”Yes, I’m lying here in a pool of blood, but you can’t take me in that ambulance until my Blue Cross agent approves it.”) What about women who are being pushed out of the hospital within a day or two of delivering a baby, because the insurance company has decided that IT knows that woman’s condition far better than her doctor or the hospital itself?
Take a true unbiased look at the health care industry in the UK or Canada or France (one that doesn’t come from a US health care concern or insurance company). Every one of those systems does have a series of checks and balances, but ultimately the patients’ well-being is put ahead of some insurance company that’s only interested in making money for NOT providing service (because, don’t you know, when the insurance comany pays a covered service, that’s money that the company isn’t keeping, and THAT is a BIG no-no).
scary.really it is.
RRRA,
It’s Friday evening here. I’ve just watched a really good detailed discussion of the DOMA issue and the Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell on Democracy Now. I hope you were able to watch it–very good information was discussed. The panelists were not really very kind to Obama.
Thanks for this info. I’m on their site now and will watch the clip.
Rev. Amy,
Your post is excellent, but I really didn’t need to read passed the wonderfully-worded title! A masterpiece!
Excellent!!
You know the thing that stuns me, is these guys act all shocked that Obama is letting the gay community down. WHY?? The signs and actions, and language were all there duing the primary.
They all just THOUGHT he would change, and support them. But WHY?? he didn’t before he was President?
I posted this on an earlier thread, but I think the thread was too old at the time. I thought it kind of felt like a way to *out* government employees…
Rights should be granted to all Americans, and it shouldn’t feel like a special thing they are granted, because they are different. As long as they are treated differently, they might be afraid to come *out*. And if they are afraid to come out, they can’t get the benefits…?
