nice wake up call…..The military in honduras has ousted the president…..Obama knew this was going to happen…he issued a statement saying the united states would not accept another leader under these circumstances….What obama isnt saying is that the president of honduras was trying to change the country’s constitution and stay in power…..obama isnt saying that the honduran supreme court ruled that he was violation the constitution….and the congress of honduras agreed……..therefore the rule of law is working in honduras. and democracy loving people are getting the shaft…the president is also siding with hugo chavez who said he will “overthrow” the new leader…….Let me get this straight…..Obambi said we shouldnt meddle in Iran’s election…why is he meddling in honduras?…and against the rule of law in honduras?…..start the impeachment…please

Mr. Hopenchange isn’t probably going to leave peaceably without being legally evicted. At the end of the Hopenchange rainbow he is the emperor. At least in his dreams… and our nightmares.

I have a feeling you may be correct.

the military in honduras has ousted their president…the president was trying to overturn the term limits by placing it on a referendum… only problem….thats not how the honduran constitution works…the honduran supreme court and the congress has already declared it to be unconstitutional….Obambi issued a statement that “the united states would not recognize the new leader appointed duly by the honduran congress” lets break it down…..in Iran, obama didnt want to meddle…but in honduras he sides with hugo chavez who said he would “overthrow the new president of honduras”…It seems to me that the supreme court and congress of honduras were following the rule of law when they would not allow a vote on ignoring the term limits set by the honduran people…and obama agrees with hugo chavez?……start the impeachment, please

Its amazing to me that no one is talking about this situation in honduras. The ultimate power grab in latin america facilitated by hugo chavez and endorsed by obama. chavez actually gave the ballots to the ousted president for his referendum on term limits. this wasnt a coup in honduras. They were following the law. simply amazing. and our media is asleep….again.

Thanks for the fun video. I always wished I could dance like that.

Don’t know what to say about Hondurus. These are anxious times.

Hugo Chavez, Raul Castro, the EU nations, BHO, & SOS Clinton are correct. The military coup against Zelaya is in violation of the (OAS) Inter American Democratic Charter: Honduras has the right to seek to have Zelaya removed: it doesn’t have the right to stage a military coup or deport their democratically elected president to Costa Rica, even though he is attempting a referendum in violation of the courts’ ruling.
Additionally, Chavez is reportedly concerned about the safety of his ambassador.

“…IV
Strengthening and Preservation of Democratic Institutions

Article 17
When the government of a member state considers that its democratic political institutional process or its legitimate exercise of power is at risk, it may request assistance from the Secretary General or the Permanent Council for the strengthening and preservation of its democratic system.

Article 18
When situations arise in a member state that may affect the development of its democratic political institutional process or the legitimate exercise of power, the Secretary General or the Permanent Council may, with prior consent of the government concerned, arrange for visits or other actions in order to analyze the situation. The Secretary General will submit a report to the Permanent Council, which will undertake a collective assessment of the situation and, where necessary, may adopt decisions for the preservation of the democratic system and its strengthening.

Article 19
Based on the principles of the Charter of the OAS and subject to its norms, and in accordance with the democracy clause contained in the Declaration of Quebec City, an unconstitutional interruption of the democratic order or an unconstitutional alteration of the constitutional regime that seriously impairs the democratic order in a member state, constitutes, while it persists, an insurmountable obstacle to its government’s participation in sessions of the General Assembly, the Meeting of Consultation, the Councils of the Organization, the specialized conferences, the commissions, working groups, and other bodies of the Organization.

Article 20
In the event of an unconstitutional alteration of the constitutional regime that seriously impairs the democratic order in a member state, any member state or the Secretary General may request the immediate convocation of the Permanent Council to undertake a collective assessment of the situation and to take such decisions as it deems appropriate.
The Permanent Council, depending on the situation, may undertake the necessary diplomatic initiatives, including good offices, to foster the restoration of democracy.
If such diplomatic initiatives prove unsuccessful, or if the urgency of the situation so warrants, the Permanent Council shall immediately convene a special session of the General Assembly. The General Assembly will adopt the decisions it deems appropriate, including the undertaking of diplomatic initiatives, in accordance with the Charter of the Organization, international law, and the provisions of this Democratic Charter.
The necessary diplomatic initiatives, including good offices, to foster the restoration of democracy, will continue during the process.

All 35 independent nations of the Americas are members of the OAS, there are 61 permanent observer countries including the EU. As of yet, none of them are siding with the military backed coup and installation of the now-former head of congress, Micheletti.

I don’t find it reassuring that Micheletti claims to have come to power legally and not through a coup d’etat, either.

Since I would love to see the same charter used against BHO, I don’t favor scrapping it.

Comment by American Girl in Italy | 2009-06-29 13:34:37

it is automatic. it is probably because you posts were long.

Comment by NomNomNom | 2009-06-29 13:48:28

the first comment was long & I was not surprised (or perturbed) it went into moderation;
the second, now appearing immediately below here, was one link and one line and it did not appear for over 2 hours. this does not appear due to length.
if there is anything else that triggers spaminator other than contrariness, plz let me know, thx for retrievals

Comment by Diana | 2009-06-29 14:06:28

Oh no now it ate my comment and it wasn’t long, all I was asking was the character count.

The span NQ gets is usually really, really long, or super short, like one line and a link… For some reason, those get spammed a lot. Also ones with the word i diot, and other swear words. i just had one get spammed because i used the f word. haha

NomNomNom - once spammer gets your comment, it will generally eat what ever you send after that. We only check the spammer periodically. So be patient. If we have to delete a bunch of repeat comments, it will take that much longer to get to it. And up the likely hood that spammer gets you again.

What is the character count? If it’s eating our posts because they’re long, if we had a character count we could follow that and stop blah, blah, blah, blahing. Ok most could, probably not me. ;)I’d still fly off on a tangent.

Dancing on this vid was fabulous, Linda. Great way to start the morning.

The Supreme Court just reversed the 2nd circuit court’s decision on the New Haven Firemen case. Sounds like a 4 to 5 split but the firefighters won.

Comment by mark connette | 2009-06-29 10:11:49

thats great!!!!!! Im happy for those firemen….

How does that effect Sotomayor, I wonder. I’m glad the firefighters win. That was just plain wrong.

Comment by Docelder | 2009-06-29 11:30:06

It just goes to show what one vote will do. That these old justices were hanging around just for Obama so that they could retire means we don’t need to fear a political activist court… it means we already have one.

I’m happy that the Supreme Court has ruled for the new white minority in this country..this case should never have reached the highest court in the land. It was clear from the beginning that this was nothing but discrimination against the white and 1 hispanic firefighters. god bless them and their families…I hope they get every penny thats owed to them from New haven Conn. these men and their families have suffered great financial hardship and they finally got justice

Comment by Docelder | 2009-06-29 11:27:44

They need to drop the “reverse” discrimination part… there is only discrimination and that is what this was discrimination. It doesn’t need the negative modifier.

GREAT video, Linda - thank you!

Mark, thanks for highlighting the Honduras situation. No doubt, NQ will have something on that soon…

Thanks for posting the video–now that is actual dancing! I can’t imagine walking into a club in the past and everybody was able to dance like this!

Comment by No-nonsense-Nancy | 2009-06-29 16:55:58

If Hondoras can do it, why can’t we? Oh, I forgot. Our Supreme Court and congress side with our lawless and constitutional shredding fraud. We’ll need to hit the streets to do it.
