Happy Independence Day, everyone. It is amazing where we have come in the 200-plus years of our independence from England, both good and bad. One thing is for sure, people, despite the constant reminders, do not always learn from history. Sad, but true.
The Founding Fathers tried to set a precedent, and gave us words of wisdom to bear in mind to keep our country free:
But our country did not achieve its independence just because of these brave, brilliant men. No, the women were right there with them:

However, I probably can’t vote for a democrat again as they have shown that they are the party that is Anti-Business, Anti-American and want to regulate and destroy the existing economy. The democrats have left me.
Sarah represents fundamental principles of freedom that I now cherish more than anything. I have seen what’s at stake and the enemy resides within the democrat party.

Respond to my point for God’s sake. What’s the point of having a discussion if no one ever actually talks about anything of substance? It’s absolutely insane to be so anti-Obama yet so pro-Clinton/pro-Palin if you care about actual issues. On the issues Obama & Clinton are very similar while Palin is their opposite. I was responding to something in specific (this insane idea that Clinton & Palin are somehow on the same page in any way.) That’s what comments like these are for. Some kind of discussion of actual merit. But that rarely, if ever, happens here. No one seems to have any real idea why they support anyone, because they clearly have no understanding of issues.

Suzie Q, I respectfully disagree with your analysis. People DO discuss issues here on their merits. That extends to politicians as well.
My suggestion, if you truly want to have a substantive discussion (and this goes for everyone), is to not insult the people with whom you claim you want to engage. People, in general, do not respond positively to name-calling.
True discussions can be had here, but only when done respectfully.

May we all remember our ancestors who bequeathed to us such a gift; may we never forget their sacrifices, their suffering, or their belief in what their lives meant–and mean to us today.I am grateful every day for what they did, for their courage, and their love of country.
Conversely, I’m very hard on friends and family who think that principles are easily twisted into partisan political agendas. I’ve gotten very short tempered with hypocrites. I’m getting old now, and I don’t have patience for hypocrisy anymore…Unfortunately some of my OBOT friends are finding that out these days.
They raged about Bush for his lies; they now defend Obama for the very same lies. But they refuse to acknowledge their hypocrisy? I can’t stand it. Either you have certain principles that are not compromiseable; or you don’t, in which case, you certainly have no principles at all.
Oh, I hear you, Mountainaires. It really is staggering. I was one of those railing on Bush for taking away our freedoms, like warrantless wiretapping on American citizens, for example. And now Obama is doing that and MORE. He is even extending some of Bush’s more unConstitutional policies. “Prolonged Detention” comes to mind. And where are these same people railing against him???
Never mind that our economy continues to be in a free fall, and all Obama can do is make stupid videos to Colbert to get his head shaved. Wow.
And take Clinton’s words without, once again, giving her credit. What the heck else is new. Like others asked above, why isn’t SHE going to Russia??
Our country is changing beyond recognition, and the citizenry is responsible for that because we have forgotten the struggles, as Abigail Adams said, the suffering, that those who GAVE us this country endured.

Susie Q you broke the cardinal rule of this blog site–never never criticise Hillary. I onced dared mention some of the questionable funding the clintons recieved and was denigrated quite robustly. I would have voted for her, she totally beat the crap out of Obama during the debates. I will never understand why she did not kick up more of a fuss about the primary debacle. I think Palin realises that Obama can only be defeated from the bottom up, and that the media has to be vigorously challenged, if having to resign her position so that she can begin a grassroots movement and be able to sue some of the media I say where can I donate to her legal fund. And WTF is wrong with Lieberman supporting Chris Dodd? THEY ALL HAVE TO GO.
