Laura Rozen is a respected reporter on foreign policy and national security matters, and her blog, War and Piece, is a daily must-read. Rozen wrote an important section of Valerie Plame Wilson’s book — Fair Game: How a Top CIA Agent Was Betrayed by Her Own Government — on Valerie’s work for the CIA that the CIA restricted Valerie from writing about herself.
Today, Foreign Policy magazine has published Rozen’s fascinating in-depth article on the heightened visibility and upcoming speeches, trips and activities of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Rozen’s Foreign Policy article is titled, “With foreign-policy speech, Clinton plans to raise her profile.”

After missing two overseas trips due to surgery to repair a broken elbow, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton plans to deliver a major foreign-policy speech at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington next week before departing for India and the ASEAN conference in Thailand on Friday, July 17, aides say.
Guiding the speech are Anne-Marie Slaughter, the director of the State Department’s policy planning office, and Derek Chollet, her deputy, among others. In a “smart power” oriented address, Clinton plans to discuss ways the United States can promote nuclear nonproliferation, combat violent extremism, and improve food security, along with other themes. “She will highlight the … goals of U.S. policy (not her goals — the country’s),” one official familiar with the preparations stressed on condition of anonymity.

Well, we’ve finally reached the point at which Obama needs Hillary more than she needs him and she obviously knows it. She was smart to leave the Senate. Hillary will not be held responsible for the tanking economy because she did not vote for Obama’s stimulus or bailouts. People are already tired of him and its only been six months. How will people feel in a year when unemployment reaches 11%?

It’s already way passed 11% countrywide if you count the people who’ve given up looking for work, those who have maxed out their unemployment benefits so have dropped off the unemployed count, and those who are underemployed with part time jobs while still needing and seeking full time employment.
I wonder if they count the self employed. I am a real estate agent and my husband is a general contractor. We are essentially unemployed as are many other self employed people. who is counting us?

From what I can glean from the linked Foreign Policy Article is that SOS Clinton has spent time on replacing the spark plugs on the 2000 Chevy “Foggy Bottom”.
Clinton will stay below the radar when it is more effective to do so. BO is way over exposed and not taken all that seriously overseas.
If leaders of other nations can’t a straight answer from BO, then they will look elsewhere.
Dick Morris, no fan of Hillary’s, said that Hillary would stay below the radar until Obambi’s numbers start to fall, which is what they are doing now. There is no way she could make a move while he was still riding the wave of his initial popularity. While his personal popularity is still high - Rasmussen has his job rating at 51% approval and falling.
If she knows nothing else, it’s how to wait things out. She’s a Scorpio after all. Like Bill, Obama is a Leo, so she knows pretty much where he’s coming from. She had to wait for Bill to live out his dream and now she is waiting out Obama. The good news is that where Bill was imminently competent, Obama is proving to be what most of us thought from the beginning - an empty suit with a nice smile.
As someone else noted - the Republicans have no one to offer. Palin at her best was a poor substitute for Hillary. Who knows what her plan is, but if things continue to go south for Obama, the dems will be begging Hillary to bear the standard for the party. After Obama’s debacle, I suspect the country will be grateful if she ran.
