Maddow Spots Another Broken Obama Promise
By Bronwyn's Harbor on July 11, 2009 at 1:01 PM in Campaign promises, Flip Flopping, Obama's Broken Promises
Rachel Maddow — yes, Rachel Maddow, the liberal MSNBC talk show host — has used a version tracker on the ‘net to unearth yet another flip-flop by Obama, this time affecting serious efforts to curb the spread of AIDS through a needle exchange program.

We give Maddow kudos whenever she points to the uncomfortable truth about Obama’s easy disassociations from his many campaign promises.
For many, many more such flip-flops, be sure to check out American Girl In Italy’s important post, “‘barack obama is a big fat liar’, illustrated” times two.”

Congrats to Rachel. Maybe she will be more enlightened as time goes on !!
Maybe the hopium high is wearing off. I still don’t forgive her for her Obama-pushing, but am glad that at least she is pointing out (albeit late) what we knew all along: The man is a lying even-worse-than-typical politician who scammed the whole country, and esp. the left, to get elected.
I do not give Rachel kudos. I am not going to give Powell kudos. I used to respect Powell, I no longer do. I used to watch MSNBC, I no longer do.
Kudos for what? For screwing the country? The idea is to do your homework before the test, not after. Don’t tell us what we already knew, that you didn’t want to hear, then expect us to go, “Wow! You’re so smart. Thank you for bringing that to our attentioon.” Pfft.
I should do a spelling test!
I can’t think when I get angry. That should read attention. Not attentioon. Although…I do like that emphasis and the way it rolls off the tongue.
I agree. Rachel smoked the hopium like the rest of the MSNBC Obamabots. I do wonder if some of this weren’t a quid pro quo…look at the folks who pummeled Hillary throughout the campaign..Big Ed, and Rachel now have their own shows. Rachel wasn’t as much of an ass as Ed, but she got her dibs in. Rachel had even said once that she remained unbiased and got “vitriole” from both Hillary and Obama camps. But I still detected that she was anti-Hillary…let’s face it, she would never have gotten a gig on MSNBC if she was pro Hillary. Sad though, I was expecting more from her.
Thanks, Diana, you are absolutely right. Kudos for waking up at noon when you should have been on the job by 8am? An act definitely not worthy of a celebration of honor. Perhaps Harbor’s point of view is Maddow could have kept her mouth shut and not said anything at all, continuing the nap well into the afternoon … or until the cows come home. Unfortunately people like Maddow are just like kids discovering what adults already knew. You just got to humor them as they start singing truisms as if they had discovered them all by themselves. Sweet little fools.
But kudos? No. You don’t honor a seemingly intelligent adult for telling you they are getting wet while standing in the midst of a monsoon as if this is something deep and profound.
Kudos Diana! You’re exactly right
If you erase a promise from a website then I guess you can pretend it was never there. No apology needed. Although the funding for that promise still being in place is somewhat problematic. I’m sure the Obama team will resolve the contradiction in the same way the Prez came out and stated the Stimulus Bill is performing wonderfully, just as they’d expected. And afterall, the naysayers have no alternative to offer. So, obviously throwing taxpayer money up in the air, hoping something sticks is the best and most wonderful plan we can expect. Mission Accomplished!
And unemployment? So, they were a little off. The economy is turning around; we’re awash in green shoots [although to my knowledge no one has really spotted one]. Maybe they’re in that multi-dimension world where the Obama folks are playing chess and sprouts are abundant.
Broken promises, don’t believe your lying eyes and follow us down the rabbit hole. It’s same old, same old.
Maddow may have underlined this awkward Obama sidestep but until she and her cheerleading press pals start reporting the unvarnished truth instead of these soft-padded blips on the radar, they’ll receive no respect from me. Frankly, they deserve none from any of us.
Why do I have the feeling that you weren’t so harsh on the “cheerleading press” when they were doing the old “rah-rah” for Dubya & Cheney and when Maddow was one of the few who weren’t on the cheerleading squad then?
Because you’d be wrong, JozefAl. I have said repeatedly that this is the same press that were major cheerleaders for the Republican maddess when it first started. Which begs the question: why would anyone believe them in questioning the power brokers of the day? You’ll note that Maddow is not particularly infuriated with these broken promises, the needle exchange program being one on a growing list. She ends the piece by saying “The Left” will not go gently into that good night, all 18 of them.
The spin continues as do the lies. I happen to believe needle exchange is a good idea if it can in any way limit the spread of AIDS, an unquestionable scourge. But please, concentrating on the ripples, whether or not this issue is dear and near, but not admitting to or pretending blindness about the hurricane that’s headed our way is disingenuous [I'm being very polite here].
Fiasco Bush will become Fiasco Obama in short order. I happen to be a Democrat, but just because the fiasco has a “D” painted on its butt doesn’t mean it will be less damaging.
So, your assumptions are dead wrong.
It seems the press always pushes the candidate most under corporate control. This time out is no different.
Maddow should be ashamed for her unquestioning support of the One last year. She is a Rhodes’ Scholar for crying out loud. She should be capable of critical thought but her criticism was reserved only for Hillary. Obama could do no wrong by her last year it seems.
She’s just trying to stay ahead of the curve now and save her flagging show. Nothing more.
Apparently her education was in something other than Philosophy and Logic as she bought the pig in the poke, lipstick and all.
Yup she started really dissing Hillary the last year on her talk show..everyone on Air America did. They all went at first either for Edwards (yuk, and I always thought yuk!) or Obama. It was total group think. Then lo and behold they got their own talk show on MSNBC! Now they are so surprised that they are disappointed.
These are the same types who are surprised when the monster gets them, while they were running and screaming hysterically in high heeled shoes. they knew the monster was coming, they knew it would “get” them, but for some reason they thought running away would save them.
When will you get over your obama and anyone who ever said a good thing about him hate?? Excuse rachel maddow and her colleagues for going for Obama! They have a right to vote for whoever they want and if she disagreed with Hillary, so what? anyone who ever doubted Hillary is given the finger by you Hillary lovers - its incredible. Last time I checked, this is a free country - we can vote for whoever we want.
The Obats (as you continue to call them) were NEVER half as bad against Hillary as you guys are towards Obama. Seriously, it is unbelievable that you can continue to carry this hate of all things Obama.
I worked for Hillary’s campaign until I realized how disorganized it was and how disengenuous SHE was. Obama’s operation was refreshing after that experience, listening to Hillary’s supporters voice their hate every day day in day out.
as if Hillary would have done things differently - that is something you do not know. your drooling Hillary fascination is frankly disturbing. she is competent and doing a great job. she might even get along with Obama - but in your eyes she will continue to be the poor victim. yukkk, even she would cringe at that portrayal.
Silly Obot twit!
You doofus Ellen! The whole point is we KNEW Hillary was an experienced, stand-up person who would do a great job as POTUS in keeping what she promised during the campaign. We DID NOT know Obama being such a blank slate, as he put it, ‘everyone interprets me as they wish’. Why rush to the shiny, new but completely unproven person over the experienced ready one non-thinker?
Agree Ani !!
It’s all about the D or the R for JozefAl. The shining example of what is wrong with this country. JozefAl could care less what their agenda is, or what they’re doing to this country as long as there is a D behind that name. See the country itself isn’t important to that type of person. The job the people in that party are doing. The individual. It’s all about party to them, they could care less if they’re wrong or right. Bringing about the destruction of the country. Harming the citizens…
Don’t worry there are many of us here that know you were not cheerleading for Bush.
Thanks, Diana! :0)
Most of the regulars here are centrists–we didn’t like shrub and don’t like That One. Better you ask (and why don’t you?) the real perpetrators of the election of the last two dim-bulbs–namely the bushbots and obamabots. As for me, I can’t fathom why anyone in their right mind would have voted for either. The first was a stupid lackey and the second a somewhat smarter lackey–a distinction lacking any substantive difference.
Buck the foth of them.
PS, no, RM said, the ban on federal funding for a needle exchange program is still intact in the budget proposal. (In other words, states that want federal funds for local programs cannot get these funds if local programs include provisions for needle exchange.)
I stand corrected, jbjd. So no worry about solving a contradiction that apparently never existed, beyond “just words.”
And now we know how important words truly are. Almost as important as unflattering numbers [so we massage them], unspeakable financial loss and theft [so we hide both from public view] and the nonstop happy talk about turning corners and, my favorite: green shoots. Lollipops will be next.
I’ve had it with all these pundits. They’re liars.
none from me.
There has been a news story the last couple of days about a surgical nurse or technician in Colorado who was addicted to some painkiller and injected the painkiller intended for post-surgical patients into her own system and substituted saline into the dose and returned it with the used needle to the patients. That nurse had Hepatitis C and exposed as many as 6,000 patients to Hepatitis C, a chronic, debilitating, and potentially deadly disease. The liability attorneys are going hog wild. So, based on that story alone, I have to assume that needle exchange programs would be effective in preventing AIDS and cost-effective as far as the resources needed to prevent vs treat an AIDS infection. Unless, of course, the Obama administration will either refuse treatment to AIDS patients or refuse treatment to patients with other conditions so that the swollen numbers of AIDS patients can be treated. Doesn’t make sense, Messrs Emmanual and Summers and Orszag and all the other little Obama puppeteers. Obama, no doubt, is doing as he is told to do. But being in Africa, I would think it would be a little difficult for him to pretend that AIDS doesn’t exist.
Why is everyone so surprised?
Raygun was backtrack’s hero. How far did the aids epidemic spread before raygun even admitted it was a problem?
WOMEN WITH INTELLIGENCE AND EXPERIENCE,MEN WHO SUPPORT THEM AND COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS
PUMAS,BUBBAS,EQUALISTS AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE
Helenk I’m not surprised at all but resigned. After the WaPo attempted an outright bribery scheme to get access nothing surprises me anymore.
When Helen Thomas, who has seen many a President come and go, says that even Nixon didn’t attempt to to control the press to this degree, I’m not surprised.
I’ve defended Obama on the rare occasions I thought he did something right. I’ve tried to be fair. But what bothers me the most is that the American public seems not to be on Obama’s radar anymore than we were on Bush’s radar.
Obama’s international trips, and I understand he must do some overseas traveling, seem to be little more than photo-ops. My grandmother had a saying: “Charity begins at home and spreads abroad”.
Just amazing, isn’t it? I think we can finally, offically, call Obama what he is, a LYING slick chicago hustler.
Why do all these media puppets keep saying ‘first term’? It will be his only term. The American people sure seem stupid sometimes, but they wake up and pay attention when attention is the only thing they can pay. Check out the Obama widget, it’s a fact. No more, no less.
It is their seduction method, repeat same over and over and regardless of fact, as the media doth say, it will be so.
Don’t be surprised if he gets a second term. I never would have believed anyone would re-elect George Bush and look what happened. The only difference is that with the debacle of the Iraq war, it was not front and center in most people’s lives — the sacrifices were localized to the military and their families. With the economy, that is front and center for everyone — what they feel in their pocketbooks, they will vote about and complain about — that is the only possibility of his having a waterloo.
By the same token, I want our country back on track as soon as possible so I cannot wish ill just so he is not re-elected. It would be nice if somebody at the head of the line started giving a damn about Main Street instead of themselves.
I won’t forgive Maddow until she admits on air that Hillary wouln’t have made promises to get votes without intending to keep those promises. Maddow ans her buddy Keith O were so vicious ro Hillary that I still can’t stand to look at them.
Agreed. I feel the same way, I HATE Olbermann, he was so hateful to Hillary, that special comment was the biggest piece of crap I ever heard. He and Mathews were two sexist pigs making up crap about Hillary, two totally insecure men. Rachel played along, no integrity there at all. Totally made up lies. Rachel got quite hateful too, she likes to say she was fair and balanced, but that is totally bull.
The day will never come when Ms. Maddow admits her wrongheaded decisions or apologizes to Hillary.
Amen!
It was when she was having her “magical” thinking moments; now she complains? A day late and a few bricks short. Damned media ass kissers.
Birthers???…Tin Foil Hat wearers???…I think not!!
“Eyes Wide Open Patriots”, as Sarah would say, “You betcha”!!!
This is the beginning of the end for Barry…Checkmate!!!
Watch closely as it all unfolds in the coming weeks.

Liberal Rapture is doing a terrific expose on “30 broken promises”. They’re at #7 now. This guy is a liar.
Thanks Bronwyn’s Harbor, for pointing this out. I too give Maddow kudos for doing her job on this issue and others.
Keeping Obama Accountable is what journalists are supposed to do. Maddow is doing a stellar job on that so far, and I appreciate her integrity on it. I also appreciate having the info Maddow provides on the tracking site she names, so I can keep up myself.
Thanks much for the info!
No rational person following the news during the primary campaign could have believed BO was telling the truth. Take, for example, his evolving description of the relationship between him and convicted felon Tony Rezko. When questions first arose about the relationship between these men, he said the scope of their relationship is this: he had done about 5 (five) hours of legal work for Mr. Rezko, through the Davis Law Firm. Then, when it came out that, Rezko had done with walk-thru before BO bought his house, he claimed, since Rezko was so knowledgeable about real estate, he asked him to take a look. Then, it was discovered that, BO and his wife visited Mr. and Mrs. Rezko at their vacation home. By then, reporters had stopped asking questions. And, when Rezko was indicted and, headlines announced that Rezko had raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for BO’s campaigns, BO eventually returned those ‘donations,’ bit by uncovered bit.
If I remember correctly ,after Retsko was in court ,the judge forbid the pres’s name to be brought up in the courtroom.
She gets no credit from me. It’s not a sudden revelation that he’s a flip flopper. He couldn’t keep his lies straight during the campaign.
It’s EASY AFTER the fact to take a stand on “principle” but when he was at the height of his popularity, she was a coward like all the rest.
Worthless.
