DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS IN THE FOOD YOUR PET EATS?

Join Host Paulie Abeles on NoQuarter Radio’s Sins of Omission this Monday, July 13th at 9 pm (ET), as she talks with author Ann N. Martin. Martin has been researching the billion dollar pet food industry since 1990. Her groundbreaking book Foods Pets Die For: Shocking Facts About Pet Food revealed how a few large conglomerates (under dozens of different brand names) now control the functionally unregulated industry.food-pets-die-for

Even so called ‘high quality’ pet food–some sold through veterinarians–contains euthanized domestic pets, road kill, restaurant & supermarket waste, and diseased animals and their inedible parts (feathers, beaks, feet etc.) as the source of its ‘protein’.

But that’s only part of the problem–the ‘parts’ require a toxic brew of chemicals and solvents so they can be re-constituted into those tasty looking meat ‘chunks’.

Bio:

ANN N. MARTIN is internationally recognized as an authority on the commercial pet food controversy. Since 1990, Martin has continued to investigate and to question exactly what goes into commercial pet food and to discover more unsavory practices of the pet food industry.

The original edition of Food Pets Die For: Shocking Facts About Pet Food, first published in 1997, was among the first books to expose the hazards of commercial pet food. Ms. Martin’s investigative reporting of the pet food industry was selected for special recognition as “one of the most censored news stories of 1997″ by Sonoma State University’s Project Censored, which focuses on important news events that are largely ignored by mainstream media. Since then, she has been on numerous television and radio shows, internationally, discussing the problems with commercial pet foods and the great health advantages of cooking for your animal companions. Food Pets Die For has been translated into Japanese.

In her second book, Protect Your Pet: More Shocking Facts, Ann Martin continues her investigation of commercial pet food as well as other controversial, pet-related issues, including over-vaccination, the raw meat diet, Rimadyl, bloat, and more.

Ms. Martin also is a pet columnist for “Better Nutrition” magazine where she writes a column of pet health issues. Ann Martin graduated with a B.A. in business from the University of Western Ontario, and worked in a tax office for several years before retiring. She lives in Ontario, Canada with her animal companions – three cats and a dog – where she continues to question, research, and write about pet-related issues
