What a Guy, What a Policeman, What an Example

This is Sgt. Crowley’s press conference following the “Beer Summit” at the White House:

Nothing by me needs to be added. Sgt. Crowley is just the kind of policeman we’d all like to have if and when we ever need help.
There are more related videos here.

Sgt. Crowley has demonstrated real class. Professor Gates and BO could learn a lot from this man, unfortunately they think they are the ones to do the teaching.
Gates is quoted as saying that Crowley “is a nice guy when he’s not arresting someone”. How’s that for a backhanded compliment!
Gates won’t change from a white hating angry and unwarrantedly arrogant black man, but you’d think he’d at least be able to hold his tongue in an effort to not escalate the bad feeling. Guess that was asking too much of him!
Read this contemptuous, bitter, defense of her father by his daughter Elizabeth Gates at DailyBeast! I cannot believe how cruel she is to Crowley’s 14-year-old daughter, and how contemptuous she is toward Sgt Crowley–calling him “infamous!”
What a bitch!
Elizabeth Gates and her father Professor Gates’ excuses and bitter refusal to take responsibility for their own behavior, look more and more pathetic while Sgt. James James Crowley continues to inspire respect and admiration for his professional and respectful.
Stay classy, Ms. Gates!

Right….

Honestly, the officer is spinning this into some story of how hard it is to be a policeman. So, the professor wants to spin it into something about race. Both men have an agenda at this point. Neither are addressing what this was really about… social class and the way we interact to each other based on that class. The beer event was a bust, because there is no predetermined common ground. Obama may learn something from this, and it may help us in the long run. Things happen for a reason. He needs to learn, having a beer and a get together won’t do any good unless there is a predetermined common ground.
Sgt James Crowley is a 16-year-veteran of the police force, with no record of discrimination based on race; for the past 5 years, he’s worked to teach police officers to respect all cultures and races and to avoid racial profiling.
That means: Sgt. Gates knows how to be respectful and professional, and to avoid racial profiling, right?!
Yet, Gates expects us to believe that suddenly, out of the blue, for the first time in his entire career Sgt. Gates was a racist?
Only the stupid and the credulous would believe Professor Gates.

Yes, To me personally, I see the most important issue here as being individual rights in your own home. Speaking for these two players, I wonder if either of them even knows or cares much for that. These two players I think conflicted because of social class. The officer thought the professor didn’t mind him because he was an elite professor… and the professor assumed the policeman was harassing him due to race. In the end, the one with the most authority won as he just arrested the other. But, I think the conflict was mostly about class. The professor would rather it be race, and at this point the officer is playing up how hard it is to be a cop bit to keep support from the department and union. It’s the he’s not white, he’s blue bit. The side story of the separate officer and the email really highlights the abuse of power issue fully.
Crowley is spinning nothing. He’s been as straightforward about the events as he can be. I am not at all about to condemn him for misstating that the caller mentioned 2 black men. It’s possible that in the midst of all the confusion and arguing going on, that he mkstakenly put down ‘black’. Big deal!Did you ever make a mistake…which did not affect what happened nor the outcome?
Gate’s daughter just showed herself to be the same angry, arrogant black person her father is. He certainly taught her well, didn’t he? What role models they are for the black community. Message to Harvard: You can do better. Your students deserve better. Fire Gates!
Obama also needs to learn that this same ploy (having a beer and ‘talking it over’) are nothing without having knowledge of the facts and the depth and experience to understand what’s at stake, who the players are and what the possible outcomes are…much like his approach to dealing with world leaders should have been, but wasn’t. That’s why his foreign trips have been nothing more than photo ops. Nothing accomplished because he is too ignorant and too shallow. He’s out of his depth.
I would feel alot better about Crowley if he had not written in his report that Ms Whalen had stated that she saw “two black men” breaking into the house.
If this was human error, then he should have immediately corrected it, since his report was the reason why the media went after Ms. Whalen and then she was attacked as a racist and even threatened. He threw her under the bus to make himself look like the perfect officer. He wouldn’t have been at the WH without her intervention as a good citizen. In fact, she is the only one who deserves an apology from obama, gates and crowley.
I don’t say he’s not a good guy, but I do believe a really good guy would never have let this woman be the victim of these kinds of attacks against her integrity and character while knowing all the time that she never stated anything about two black men. It seems now to me by his silence that he used the “two black guys” reference in the report in order to cover his ass. Without the tapes to vindicate her, she would probably have never been believed and Crowley’s report would have been viewed as the truth.
Since the democratic primary and the treatment of Hillary and then Sarah Palin, I can no longer give the guys a free pass and let the woman take the hit for the guys acting “stupidly”.
And now everyone is racing around willy-nilly trying to say that his possible misspeak about ‘two black men’ shows that he is a racist! You people who believe this rubbish are just undereducated fools who will always see whites as oppressors in any situation involving blacks.
The reason the majority in prison are black is because they commit the most crimes! Try to rewrite history all you want, facts are facts.
Crowley’s record is out there vis a vis race and efforts by biased little fools like Gate’s daughter (the ‘infamous’ Crowley), only show how ignorant they are.
I’ve had enough of this pussyfooting around blacks. It’s time we call them like we see them…good, bad or ugly.
Yeah, I don’t agree with some people that if the color is obvious and they identify it, then that identification is racist. If I want a cop to help me, I’m going to give them all the information I have. It’s information, it’s not something racist!
“As my father said on the plane yesterday morning on our way to the White House, “there are approximately 800,000 black men in prison and on July 16, 2009, I simply became one of them.””
The above quote is from Gates’ daughter’s essay. I just shook my head when I read that. She’s totally implying that they’re all in jail because of the police, not because of their own actions.
Why, oh why, has everyone left MLK behind? Judging someone on their character (which can be observed through behavior)…..!
Crowley ought to run for president…very diplomatic…
His energy is so calm and grounded…I can’t possibly imagine him flipping out on Gates in any fashion.
Sgt. Crowley exemplifies the Law Enforcement Creed.
TO PROTECT AND SERVE..
His conduct here was exemplary. Clearly someone who is calm under pressure and knows how to do his job.
With all the has been happening to Crowley he has maintained a calm and cool demeanor.
Now Gates who has sought the limelight and interviews has at times looked like he was going to lose it at any time. The anger seems ready to come out at any moment.
Actually I think Gates hurt his case with all his media attention, much of it his lawyer and him sought.
Unlike O-ineligible.
Sgt. Crowley is a class act, who unlike me and I bet a lot of other people, chose to go to bho the fraud vs. telling this usurper and his snobby friends to either shut up or come to the precinct where the real people live and work.
Good for you, Sgt. Crowley. You’re a better person than I would be at this point–and I still think that snake oil salesman squatting in OUR WH tried to slither out of this mess HE created with his, as usual, highly publicized and to me very condescenging “let’s have a beer” fake moment.
I’m with Hillary is 44 blog–Obama simply cannot be trusted.
BHO has created another Joe-the-plumber type hero.
A black sergeant who was at the home of Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. when he was arrested says he’s been maligned as an “Uncle Tom” for supporting the actions of the white arresting officer.
Cambridge Sgt. Leon Lashley gave a letter to Sgt. James Crowley to give to President Barack Obama during their so-called beer summit with Gates on Thursday night at the White House.
In the letter, which was also sent to CNN, Lashley says Gates “may have caused grave and potentially irreparable harm to the struggle for racial harmony.”
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/07/30/wow-black-cop-in-gates-arrest-sends-letter-to-obama-about-being-called-an-uncle-tom/
I also love the way he had representatives with him and wasn’t going to allow himnself to be made into anyone’s patsy.
This is a letter from Sgt Leon Lashley one of the officers with Crowley and who spoke up for Crowley. Looks like he is now considered an “Uncle Tom” , betrayer and other things due to his support for Crowley.
Its about 1min 10 secs into the video.

Ok Crowley is a “Racists” and Lashley is an “Uncle Tom”. So I wonder how Figuroa is doing in the eyes of people.
I am so glad that everyone has seen how Crowley has shown how cool he is under many pressures.
Most of us would not have done what he did today.
Actually most of would not want his job.
I called and emailed the day of the press conference as many did with a vote of thanks for Crowley and all the other offiers..
Wow.
Someone had to try and reach into Gates’ thick prejudiced skull. Lashley’s letter was very much needed and to the point.
MalcolmX hate is no longer a reason to act disrespectfully…to ANYONE.
Once again we turn the other cheek!
Someday we may not.
You got to hand it to Obama though, he managed to turn a local brouhaha into a national brew ha ha, and by doing so, again deflected attention from the primary culprit in stupidity and racism, himself, and imply that it is the rest of us who were needing a teachable moment. He did the same thing during the Rev. Wright controversy. Where would we be without His wisdom and instruction to keep us on the path of shining human virtue? Maybe we would be stoned out of our minds, holding hands and sharing a smoke with a Pakistani room-mate while trashing American ideals, and dreaming of the day when Americans would become so stupid that they would elect a filthy, brain scrambled, smooth talking POS for President. Thank you Messiah, pass the pretzels!
Worthy of framing. This amateur weisenheimer is in awe.
You did hear him say that perhaps he and Gates will get together the next time and have some Kool-Aid didn’t you?
Oh my God…that’s right…he did say that! It totally went over my head when I heard it! Now I REALLY like Crowley! Rock on!
Yes, he said that meeting somewhere for another beer might send the wrong message, so “maybe a Kool-Aid or Ice Tea . . .” LOL!–He obviously wasn’t aware that for many who would watch the press-conference. that Kool-Aid pitcher has a skull-and-crossbones on it.
I was also amused by how adept Sgt. Crowley was at handling the press conference, cutting off some questioners, signaling to others to come ahead–just like a skillful traffic cop controlling a busy intersection! Good job: totally in control.
maybe he was sending support to those who know kool aid helps to tolerate Obama (and probably gates) and he supports the tea party efforts. That would be really cool and sly. Maybe he really thinks Obama and Biden are slimey and behaved stupidly so he diplomatically met them for beer so as not to keep the controversy going, but the kool aid and tea remarks were because he doesn’t really think they’re very cool deep down.
Crowley chose his words very carefully, and I’m sure that his lawyer reviewed it to prevent any more uninvited controversy. The Kool-aid and tea references were clearly chosen on purpose. Crowley claimed that he didn’t vote for Obama, and I believe him. I’m sure he wants this whole affair to be put behind him, and if he had used very explicit language to describe the Obamafest as the despicable photo-op that it was, he would be in the headlines tomorrow. He was very crafty with his use of words, he downplayed it. Yet he gave us all a wonderful signal that he realized that he was being used like a pawn by a manipulitive and cynical group of political architects that work 24/7 designing an acceptable persona for a man-child that couldn’t run a car wash let alone the most powerful country in the world. I also think that Crowley was more amazed that such an unremarkable twerp like Obama is the President, than he was by the invitation to the Whitehouse for a brewsky.
How sad that we’ve come to this level of Obama ego indulgence during a time when monumental problems are staring us down. The best course we could take at this moment is to do the opposite of the wishes of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid, and take back the reigns of this country, before they run it off a cliff.
Or a subtle salute to the “Tea Parties”?
Rock on Mr. Crowley, America toasts you with our glasses of tea. We will, we will rock them.
He also said, “we agreed to disagree about the past.”
That was a very classy, professional presentation from Crowley. It was measured, thoughtful and very respectful.
He makes his case by who is is: authoritative but not rude, knowledgeable but not arrogant. Overall, a skilled professional and a man who knows who he is.
Congrats, Sargeant. You’re a credit to the public you serve and men who serve with you!
That guy has a career in politics if he wants it. And he exemplifies what our politicians should be, real people with real jobs who bring their life experience to Washington. As the founding fathers had intended.
BH, perhaps you can update this post with the tape of this interview with these two items.
1) Interview between Sargent Leon Lashley, the black officer standing in front of the porch when Gates was in handcuffs; and CNN.
LASHLEY CNN INTERVIEW
2) Sargent Lashley’s letter to OC, asking him to pass on his sentiments to BO.
LASHLEY LETTER
Here is a sample from that letter.
I knew Leon many years ago, when he was new to the force. He was a good man then; and, based on what I see, nothing has changed.
Your LASHLEY LETTER link is not working. Here is the one posted by CA from above
Its about 1min 10 secs into the video.

Gates (and Ozero) will be unable to believe that either of them bear any responsibility for Gates acting like an a** and Ozero taking the “blame whitey” way out of the mess.
The Teaching Moment
The cop who teaches sensitivity training and the professesor who teaches victimization and hate. The black sargent who backed the cop at racial peril to himself and his family. Where was the white support for Gates. And I’m not talking about Lawrence O’Donnel.
Sgt Crowley is willing to move on while Prof Gates still believes it was a case of racial profiling. Pres Obama did not apologize. He brought VP Biden because he doesn’t know how to handle the situation.
Mission UNACCOMPLISHED !
I’d vote for that guy for any office.
At least Obama is attempting to build bridges with this meeting - how is that a bad thing?
http://www.commongroundpolitics.net/discussion/showthread.php?t=47668
Are you kidding? Obama is to busy burning bridges behind him.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A3F8v_APhw&feature=related
To the extent that it was a learning experience for Obama–not bad at all. He certainly could have learned a few things from Sgt. Crowley on how to behave in a press conference.
As far as Gates is concerned, he couldn’t possibly have learned anything more–he acts as if he already knows everything. Funny how learning for some people seem to stop after a PhD.
No he isn’t. He’s just trying to get his tail out of the publicity mess he created. It has always been about him and always will be. Don’t delude yourself!
I think this can be a new precendent for Obama.
This can be the first of many beerfests at the White House. Obama can use the beerfest to resolve problems over automobile accidents, gang wars, matrimonial disputes, disagreements over promotions, etc.
Obama can sit as Solomon over ALL the countries petty disputes whilte drinking himself under the table.
Both Gates and Obama screwed up by shooting their mouths off, and neither is man enough to admit they made a mistake. The beer-fest is just a face-saving device for them…end of story.
Go Sgt. Crowley!
Bronwyn..
Nice Title for this Article BTW..
You must be a Class Act Too..
Why is it that Obama is just about the only prominent black man that realizes Gates blew it with his temper tantrum.
Colin Powell, Cosby, Juan Williams and I think a few of you can add to the list. There seems to be a lack of prominent black men speaking for Gates.
Even Sharpton and Jackson seem to be staying the H3LL out of this. WHY? Hey those two seem to get involved when there is just a whisper of racism.
Because the “O,” like his predecessor, GWB, cannot ever be wrong. When you are deep into being an imposter, you can never admit your flaws or mistakes, lest you be found out.
Yesterday my heart went out to Lucia Whalen during her press conference. It was evident to me that she’s a good, kind and thoughtful person. Today, Sgt. Crowley exhibited the characteristics that explain why his colleagues have a high opinion of his professionalism.
These are 2 people who’ve shown an enviable humanity and diplomacy when facing the media and essentially addressing the world. I can’t help but think they did nothing on that fateful day to warrant criticism and scorn.
Wow! What a professional! An outstanding police officer who stands and speaks confidently with an air of intelligence, goodness, fairness and a nice speaking voice that delivers intelligent, fluid answers WITHOUT a teleprompter. Notice that the officer spoke decently and non-critical of Obummer or Gates. Wonder if the ‘other guy’ (Gates) will give an interview?
This interview should show the world that Sgt. Crowley is a decent man and was just doing the job he was/is paid for doing.
I wonder why Gates didn’t stand for an interview after the beerfest, as Crowley did.
The man is a loudmouth, racist coward. I hope Harvard fires his miserable butt. If I were paying tuition for a child of mine to be in one of his classes, I would pull him or her out of that class! The man doesn’t deserve a public forum. He’s set back race relations more than he can know and he can’t feel the anger in the white community which exists as a result of his irresponsible charges and actions.
Sgt Crowley was great but this idea of a beer summit or meeting or whatever is the most ridiculous idea of all time, I thought I have heard it all but this one takes the cake.
It reminds me of some schoolyard fight when the teacher comes out and shouts break it while now you two shake hands and say sorry.
I wonder if Obama is now going to try having a beer with world leaders to sort out some differences.
That was his plan with Ahmajinedad wasn’t it?
Sgt. Crowley is indeed impressive.
But did he have to taze Obama?
A proud moment for law enforcement officers everywhere.
And a real teaching moment for all of us.
Maybe Obama will learn something?? Not likely, I realize. But we can hope.
SYD
“and this crap affects me how?”
I ain’t a cop, an oppressed minority, a gifted harvard alumni, or president.
I don’t even make the floggin’ beer.
two white men and two half white/half black men drink a beer for photo ops.
no apoligies, no meeting of the minds, no progress and overall it’s only a political play about “we all came together in peace.”
I call it bullshit.
I would call it that too. But I think maybe Obama learned something about himself yesterday. He can’t meet two people and will a resolution to their differences. Maybe he didn’t know that before yesterday.
OMG.
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2009/07/obamas_revealing_body_language.html
If Obama is going to have a “beer summit” every time he puts his foot in his overly large mouth…he should invite George Bush Jr. back to be his sponsor at the AA meetings they should attend.
