did obama joker poster cross the line?

Newsbusters: MSNBC Picks Up WaPo Article Claiming Obama Joker Poster Racist
CONTESSA BREWER: Is a poster of the President as the Joker racist? The posters in Los Angeles and elsewhere show the President as The Dark Knight version of the Joker above the word ‘socialism,’ you see it there. Except nobody seems to know who came up with this Obama image, face painted white, lipstick in the shape of an extended grin, he’s got the dark eye shadow. And no one seems to know who’s hanging them up. Phillip Kennicott is a style reporter for The Washington Post. Phillip, have you been able to get any further in finding out who’s behind it?

PHILLIP KENNICOTT: Last I checked, we still don’t know who’s done it, and I’m not sure that we will find out anytime soon.
BREWER: Alright, in your article on The Washington Post, you say – let me just give the title: ‘Obama as the Joker: Racial Fears, Ugly Face.’ Explain what you mean.
KENNICOTT: Well, I go back to the original context of the Joker in the Batman films. And these films have always been about urban fears, and quite simply, those fears code in many ways, black. They play into anti-African-American stereotypes. Which is one of the reasons I think they chose this particular comic book villain, instead of some other, to superimpose over the face of the President.
BREWER: But we – and we just put it up there – we saw George W. Bush on Vanity Fair as the Joker. I mean, then why would this be racially motivated?
KENNICOTT: Well, I mean, for the obvious reason that George Bush wasn’t black. I mean in this case, I think what they’re doing is finding an image that actually has undercurrents when applied to Obama that it simply didn’t have when it applied to Bush.
BREWER: You know, it’s interesting, because we’re seeing a lot of these trends, a lot of these questions about whether some of the attacks against Obama are really about the color of his skin. For instance, not just this Joker poster, but also, the whole birther movement. Do you think that maybe there’s not enough attention being paid to how many of the attacks really still are about the color of our President’s skin?
KENNICOTT: I think we’re going to be having two conversations in this country about the President for a long time. There’s going to be a political conversation and then there’s going to be a racial conversation, which we obviously haven’t about any previous president, because he’s the first African-American president. And it’s very difficult to separate those two conversations. And there’s a lot of sensitivity when people feel the other side in a debate crosses the line. But I think, absolutely, we need to continue looking at what are the legitimate political arguments and where – where racially coded arguments are coming in. And that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re racist arguments, but being aware of how race is playing into imagery.
BREWER: Alright, Phillip, thanks.
In the 4PM hour, anchor David Shuster teased an upcoming discussion about the posters:

“Meanwhile, conservative sites are posting this image of President Obama. Where is the bashing going to lead?” A still shot of the poster was shown on screen with the headline: “Right-Wing Hate?” During the later segment, Shuster asked Democratic strategist Julian Epstein: “A lot of conservative websites have been running essentially a shot of President Obama where he looks like Heath Ledger, the Joker from ‘Batman,’ and it says ‘Socialism’ underneath it. He’s got sort of a white scary face. Is that appropriate? Does that cross the line?”
Hmmm…Appropriate? I don’t know, Shuster? Where exactly IS the line?
Is this over the line:
Or this: Is Sarah Palin a poster girl for racism?
Or this: Town Meeting Protestors ‘Taking a Page Right Out of a Nazi Playbook?
Or this:
Maybe this was over the line? Sarah Palin getting divorced.
Or any one of the images I added above? Why the fuss over one anonymous poster?
Racist? I don’t think so…

Of course the Obama Joker poster is not racist - that’s why the Dems are so intent on demonizing the poster as racist.
Odd that they say it is about raciam, but don’t say it isn’t so about the Socialist.
Great point!
So off target, FASCISM not socialism should be under this clown’s face. Political naivete rules the American landscape. That is how that poseur got into the WH, the willingness of uninformed voters especially white liberals to claim redemption by putting a fake “progressive” in the WH. You don’t always get what you want but you always get what you asked for! FASCISM is what he is about. Controlling media and autocratic capitalism.
3 1/2 more years — ugh!
Think of the political continuum as a straight line. Now place the ends together. That One resides at the meeting point between the extreme left and extreme right. He is neither and both.
Of course it’s not racist! But I wish they had made the face half black and half white, stright down from the forehead to the chin. He is after all, half white and half black. My question for Obama is this: where is the half white of you?
White or black, whatever the base color of the joker makeup applied to Obama’s face, it would be played from the race angle. IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER.
It will be played as race no matter the motive. EVERYTHING will be.
Exactly.
That’s classic Obama.
Blame everything on racism.
Liberal hypocrisy, that is what it is.
yep.
Great collages, AGI. It makes me sick to look at Palin’s with all the sexual overtones. This is the other side of sexism, demonizing and using sex to make women sexual objects and nothing more.
We intend to give as good as we get! Don’t like Obama in whiteface? We didn’t like it when Bush was painted as the Joker, but you did it anyway. So now you call it racism. What did you call it when you did it to him? (And I don’t even like Bush).
What I find so ironic is that the very methods Obama taught for years as a community organizer (get in their faces, etc.), is being put to very good use by many who oppose Obama’s policies and actions and those of congress, and yet they are complaining as if they didn’t do even more outrageous and vile things against anti-Obama people.
We are and will continue to employ whatever tactics it takes, legally, to rid this country of this unqualified, unvetted phony and his doggie congress. We will not stop until we spell out for everyone the corruption, the behind the scenes schemes and deals (see the drug company ‘deal’ Obama made). That’s transparency you can believe in!
Do any of them have a soul? Can they sleep at night or look at themselves in the mirror without wanting to throw up? They are just completely full of it.
AGI! This is so brilliant. The collages tell the whole story. Congrats on a classic post.
This whole poster thing is a summing up of the entire election and how we got the inexperienced President we now have to try to live with. If you aren’t for Obama, you are a RACIST.
The unfortunate thing is that “racism” has no meaning now beyond not being in lock-step with Obama. And that smells of oppression of a new kind.
THANKS! :O) I am so glad my hours of googling and assembling paid off. Although, I must say, it is QUITE easy to find all those images.
Yep, they have destroyed the term racist. They use that card waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much.
Yes, but, someone had to put these images together. Thank you. (I would imagine that many of these images were already in your head, and you just went looking for them.)
i actually found a few i had never seen, surprisingly! it was worse than I thought.
and you are mighty welcome.
Amazing collages — tremendous job — and I know it was a huge amount of work to put together!
Thanks Ani!
Well done, AGII.
File this under the “they can dish it out but they can’t take it” category.
I had seen some of the others images of Bush, Hillary and Palin — but did not know the majority of those horrid tasteless images existed. Some people have to be truly off to do such a thing, to say the least.
Everyone is entitled to be treated with equal respect. Not just this President. Didn’t he know the honeymoon would end once he got to the WH. We tried to tell him.
Your collages are the bomb and completely spectacular. They deserve widespread dissemination to dispel the complete BS about the racism charge.
The art was great! And I loved the above quote.
By the time we get through the Obama presidency everyone non-black is going to be so jumpy that they will exclude black people for fear that equal treatment for all will get them accused of being racist.
And by excluding blacks, they’ll be accused of being racist.
Catch 22 anyone?
I heartily agree. The collage is super. The posting is indeed classic.
Grazie Mille!
ABSOLUTELY!!!!
just heard Tingle Matthews a couple days ago suggest that opposition to the health care bill was really just about people being mad about having a black president. un-freaking-believable.
bill maher said the same thing on his latest show, something to the effect of people who say they want their country back are really having an issue with having a colored guy in the office.
Its not working anymore, this sick tired meme of racism. A**holes come in all colors, thats a fact of life.
Funny, the country wasn’t so mad about having a black president when they were voting him into office in the first place. Now there is supposedly a problem with the color of his skin? I guess people can only be ‘not racist’ for a few months, tops. If someone is losing popularity that they once had, that is indicative of their ACTIONS.
We should start addressing every insult against Bush, Palin, or Hillary with “you’re just saying that because he/she is WHITE!!! RAAAAACCCIIISST” and see how far that goes.
What transgression on Obama’s part would be necessary before some people stop seeing him as black before anything else? I mean if he killed someone for instance, would we be racist for calling him out on it? Just wondering where color ends and personal responsibility begins???
“We should start addressing every insult against Bush, Palin, or Hillary with “you’re just saying that because he/she is WHITE!!! RAAAAACCCIIISST” and see how far that goes.”
The more I think about that, the better I like it. I’m going to try it the next time I get a chance. The reaction should be interesting.
I, too, was struck by this:
KENNICOTT: Well, I mean, for the obvious reason that George Bush wasn’t black.
There you have it. It’s all about racism. Logic be d@mned.
Thanks for the collages they said so much in just one picture.
There was a thread on another site where people kept trying to say that the Obama joker was so overboard for someone to do to our President.
The Bush collage pretty much shut them up, then when the Palin and Hillary was added in I think most of them became speechless.
The “controversy” about the posters is the biggest load of contrived crap that I’ve seen since the Repubs smeared President Clinton. It is just another example of how any criticism of Ozero is instantly branded “racism”. All of those evil things that the Obots (repeated by the MSM) said and posted about HRC and Palin are okay, but the commandment reads “thou shalt not use Obama’s name in vain”. Yeah, right.
agreed.
hmmmmmmmm wonder if the poster was staged like I think the Gates gate was. It was put in LA. Remember Watts? Another odd thing is that it wasn’t torn down or vandalized. Were the residents of LA told hands off? Did the residents hope that the world sees it because they are so over Barry?
I have had two correctional officers say that the blacks in prison, dispise him. Maybe they know that when he hit Chicago he was told he wasn’t black enough. Which is why he started going to a black church, became a “get in their face” organizer and maybe why he married an angry black. All that to give him street creed?
Or do they know that he along with his neighbors pay a security force to keep people from the surrounding neighborhood out?
How can any claims be made against whites for racism. The man is half WHITE. So tell you black racists what, you critize his black side and leave the white side to whitey. Deal?
wow!
Great post.
And you raise some very great points. Just last summer, overzealous Obama fans would have torn those posters down…
things that make you go hmmm.
I loved how the guy tripped all over himself trying to explain why it IS racist when it’s Obama depicted as the Joker, and how it ISN’T racist that Dubya was depicted as the Joker over and over and over again (not that I am defending Dubya in any way, mind you). Really astonishing.
We knew this was going to happen, though - Obama was supposed to be OFF LIMITS because he is bi-racial - Axelrove made damn sure of that.
Great post, AGII - the collage work is outstanding!
i know, they are ridiculous.
Thanks Amy! :O)
“I loved how the guy tripped all over himself trying to explain why it IS racist when it’s Obama depicted as the Joker, and how it ISN’T racist that Dubya was depicted as the Joker over and over and over again (not that I am defending Dubya in any way, mind you). Really astonishing.”
This whole new brouhaha smaks of the ongoing campaign to label anyone racist who disagrees with the Obama agenda. It is their only true talking point; all else gets diffused as truth
catches up to the invented leftist narrative.
Racism is actually a cover and diversion.
The Infowarriors are exploiting it, allowing the image to metastastize throughout the country. This is bound to drive the Obamobots nuts. It’s a war of words and symbols.
I would have used the tag “globalist” instead of “socialism,” however. Think that is closer to
the mark. We are really entering a phase known as “neoliberalism.” A perfectly skewed Orwellian
term. In realpolitiks, that defines a fusion of
fascism and totalitarian communism. AKA, Hitler’s
dreamscape.
There’s also the image of George Bush from the Vanity Fair piece. He is also depicted as The Joker in an image straight out of a horror movie. See:
http://imgur.com/pTvVj.jpg
It’s too bad we’ve entered the era of trashing politics, politicians, demonstrators, anyone who speaks out, and even the right to assemble. I don’t know how we will ever get past this name calling, and assault via planted news stories, graphics, talk shows, “pressers” etc.
Well, it’s all free speech, like it or not, isn’t it? But they just keep “kickin’ it up a notch.” If you’ve ever been in a family where everyone is using verbal assaults, name calling, and non-stop shouting, you know it can end in violence or in people walking away forever. What happens to a country in this coast-to-coast climate?
One of the by-products is an ongoing lack of trust and an inability to “pull together.” It can poison generations. Barack Obama has a talent for using these tactics. His remark last June at a Philadelphia fundraiser — ” “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” –and the positive reaction to that by his supporters, put the official seal on the “anything goes” atmosphere that continues to spread itself all over the country. Now there are plenty of verbal knives and guns out there in our political universe. Even if we are not nudged into a civil war with real knives and guns, we will be fighting each other for years to come.
As for the Obama joker poster, Obama himself again set up a graphics war with his amazing use of a personal logo that has infected the imagery of the Office of the President of the United States. To see an individual take office and supplant the Seal of the United States with variations of his own campaign advertising logo (the latest version for the health care issue) accompanied by tailored slogans is something we’ve only seen with dictators in totalitarian states.
The ubiquitous “O” with the red and blue within is an inescapable reminder of the Obama Universe. It is displayed more than the flag itself. For those who support him, it’s a reassuring sign that “the leader” is everywhere. And it has a psychological impact that fuels the “them vs. us” warfare. For those who oppose him it grows more frightening as it continues to spread.
The Vanity Fair Joker is part of the collage piece I did above. That, and many more!
I agree about them kicking it up a notch. People are sick and tired of being called teabaggers and racists, and mobs, etc. It’s getting ugly because people are being trashed by the MSM and Obama administration.
I know. Part of me is in shock. I’ve got several friends who no longer speak to me simply because I defended Gov. Sarah Palin and, during the primary, Senator Clinton from what I perceived as dangerous labeling by the Obama supporters. I was amazed that women were picking up verbal rocks and hurling them at Palin and also getting pretty rabid until Clinton started campaigning with Obama. My own brother continues to hint in our very heated discussions that I need to “give him a chance.” Yet my bro, who offers himself up as a model of open-mindedness, was thrilled to see someone like Dave Letterman use a t.v. show to extend the senseless bashing to the children of a political figure. At this point I no longer care what my “friends” or even my own brother think. But my 92-year-old mother, who is usually quietly listening without joining the verbal fray, looked up at me last week as we were watching the news and said “You better be careful what you say and to whom you say it because it looks like you don’t know who is really listening.” She said she did not like what she was seeing and that it reminded her of what we fought against in WWII. That shocked me even more.
I was young and shouting in the streets in ‘68, ‘69 etc. Not only did we not end “the war” — Nixon ended it on his timetable — we also participated, along with Spiro Agnew, et al, in the division of the generations.
Last year some things seemed so odd to me when I compared those days of ‘68 to the campaign of 2008. For the first time in my lifetime, I started seeing politicos of left and right bending low to tell soldiers “We thank you for your service.” Both sides using the soldiers in a new way. Prior to that, one side waved the flag (some even wore hardhats) , and the other did not treat the soldiers (who were drafted!) too kindly. In my big town of NYC, there were no parades or thank yous. Only in the small towns where the “silent majority” lived. Forty years ago it was and now the shouting has started again. I hope it works out better this time.
wozers!
well, if anything good comes of this, it will be to reinvigorate the people, and get more people involved, and awake.
Well, take a bow because your wonderful collage work here and your always interesting/provocative postings at NQ are surely enough to reinvigorate the people and then some! Keep it up!
Larry Johnson or someone else may know the answers to these things.
1) Can a TV transmit both ways?
2) Can a phone that is on the hook be used as a
listening device?
3) What is and what is not HARRP in Alaska? Is it still in operation?
The US military will begin recruiting immigrants with special skills who are in the United States on temporary visas, offering a chance to become citizens in as little as six months, The New York Times reported.
A report on the newspaper’s website on Saturday said it would be the first time since the Vietnam War that the armed forces would be open to temporary immigrants, provided they have lived in the US for at least two years.
Immigrants with permanent resident status, or “green cards,” are eligible to enlist in the US military.
A Pentagon spokesman said he knew of the programme but had no details.

For July, immigrant numbers in the Diversity Visa category are available to qualified DV-2009 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as listed below:
Africa 48,700
Except: Egypt 21,600 [includes "Palestinians"]
Ethiopia 21,100 [includes Somalia]
Nigeria 14,400
This does not include the arrival in the US of Palestinian Iraqis.

What I cant figure out is why they are so all fired scared.
What is happening lately has been a definite sign of fear on the part of the Obama administration. Maybe its unraveling more than we know or realize.
I sure as the H3LL hope so…
Great Job AGI — Keep It Up.
Mandelay, your comment needs repeating.
He puts the “official seal” on the conduct, whether it’s inveigling supporters to physically intimidate the opposition into submission; or to marginalize them entirely, with a wave of his middle finger.
American Girl in Italy——First of all, come on back home. We need more people like you over here!
Thanks for posting an excellent assessment of what’s going on, i.e. blatant and sickening hypocrisy.
Ciao!
:O) hehe Thanks!
Does obama cross the line telling people to get in other people’s face? Does obama cross the line with ACORN and SEIU?
In order to have an opinion on this I would actually have to care about what the MSM think. Which I don`t.
The racial charge is from the Alinsky playbook. Find a false enemy-racism to divert attention from Obama and the Democrats failed policies.
-Bankrupting the country
-Health care - diverting at least 1 trillion dollars from Medicare to fund part of their health care plan
-declaring war on the American people by tagging them as racists or GOP hacks
The bottom line is Obama is responsible. There is a real arrogance which starts from the top that they are not accountable to the American people.
IMPEACH OBAMA - IMPEACH OBAMA - IMPEACH OBAMA!
If Amazon Wants To Maximize The Irony…

Will Fahrenheit 451 be next?
Only books that don’t support Ozero.
I agree. Isn’t it funny how every time Obama starts to lose popularity on an issue out comes something supposedly racial. Would not be surprised if his people put the posters up themselves to distract from the real issues. I am Blk and Obama has done our community and this entire country a diservice. Voted for HRC in the primary and grandpa and the hot chick (which I respect HER immensely) HE WILL NEVER BE RE-ELECTED BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF HIS POLICIES, RECKLESS SPENDING AND EVERYTHING BEING ABOUT RACE WHEN IT COMES TO HIM. I HOPE HRC FINDS A WAY SHE CAN RUN AGAINST THE FRAUD IN ‘12
Remember, that “Hot chick” is also a grandma.
Yes, I completely agree. Am I the only one getting a sickening feeling that our free elections are in serious jeopardy? I already had a rigged voting machine during the last election and was asked to leave when I loudly let the whole room (and down the hall) know about it. Now that they have total power, what will it be like in 2010 and 2012? Iran?
Black Panthers and union workers staffing the polls? Seriously, tell me if I’m going too far here because this does not sound that farfetched to me after his first 6 months in office. Someone, please tell me I’m wrong. I want to be wrong.
Remember when Nancy Phew said “I am 100% sure that Obama will win the election”
O also had as a Super Delegate someone who was formerly with Diebold who would know the ins and outs of voting machines. Electrontic voting machines have been proven to be “hackable”.
The shock and awe of Racism died a couple of weeks ago wehn Obama ran his inexperienced and unknowledge mouth in the Gates affair.
How stupid does this race card pumping POTUS think people are, from using it on the Clinton’s to saving his ass in the Rev Wright affair, he ran out when thumping it with the pre-set question during his healthcare news conference.
Stripping Obama of the Race Card leaves him as a person and what is shining through is that his formulas on everything are failures and his excuses are not holding water anymore. His blaming having stepped into the WH with the economy in tatters doesn’t fly since this selective minded POTUS forgets he sat in the Senate passing Bill after Bill that lead to the failures.
So bottom line is MSM forget the race card, it is a dead issue poorly used by your selected POTUS, and the focus on the person you chose is proving to be a total failure just as your reporting has become!
Obama isn’t a joker, he is just a JOKE!
Yes! Yes! Yes! A really nasty joke on the people.
Yes, he’s a joke, but what’s the punch line?
You ain’t getting that 40 acres and mule promised.
While the ignorant media keep manufacturing racism, the clock keeps ticking.
Check it out !!

Great post Harp.
The biggest load of contrived crap is the information coming out of the White House.
Oh boy, HARP, thanks! That’s more fun than watching the numbers go round at the gas pump! It makes me feel like I’m at the center of what’s happening! I know how I’m going to be spending my Saturday evenings from now on . . .
You’ve been Post’d!
After their little Mouthpiece Theater calling Hillary a mad bitch, nothing surprises me.
It should be said that this piece did not run as Op-Ed, it ran (I believe, I dont have the paper here) in the Arts/Style section. Not news, but not opinion.
The only thing I liked about the WAPO article was the reader comments - they ran 99% against the authors hypothesis that the posters are a racist attack on Obama. This is amazing for Post commenters, who love Obama all day long and seem to find just about everything racist, or the fault of Bush, or both.
So, maybe the article was another straw dog, to draw out the reaction before BO gives his next race speech.
Obama IS a socialist. Can’t argue facts. We have seen enough evidence of this and we will continue to see more as we progress. Why would such a poster cross a line? Because he’s in white-face? I think white people should be insulted by this, not black. Because he is being portrayed as something other than what he claims to be? Hard to cross that factual line.
Pulling the race card is getting really, really old. It’s like crying wolf and I’ve grown deaf to these sobbing moans.
While I do think that a lot of what’s been done over the past few years has gone over the line I don’t believe the Joker poster did.
If something like that is too much then he doesn’t belong in the political arena at all. Nor do his whiney little supporters that see everything as an attack on his skin color and not on him.
I do think that what Mike Malloy said about Glenn Beck was so far over the line that he has earned a permanent place at the top of the list of asshats that are not worth listening too and that are taking up valueable air time that other more worthy, or decent human beings, might use.
I don’t like Glenn Beck. But to wish that he would die is something that no one should wish for. Let alone that he would do it on television. If I were as rotten as Malloy I would wish that he do what he wishes for Beck. But I’m better than that. I don’t want him dead, I just want him silent.
But it doesn’t really matter to me because I wouldn’t listen to him anyway. It’s quite obvisous that he’s nuts. Sorry Garafalo, Mike is now officially crazier than you.
What Malloy did was disgusting! Especially what he said about Beck’s family history. And the gross thing is Malloy backed up his statements again, repeating them.
People: ” who came up with this Obama image, face painted white, lipstick in the shape of an extended grin”
Obama: “you can put lipstick on a pig and it will still be a pig”
Talking about lipsticks… Every pig gets what he deserves.
When I look at Obama I see a sneeky little liar. I see a person that works laboriously trying to conceal his true thoughts and his mysterious past. I see an angry and mischievous little bot trapped in a man’s body. I see a Narcissist struggling to gather worshippers to buttress up his huge, but fragile ego. I see a man that is embittered from being abandoned by both parents. I see a socialist, bred in the same America hating atmosphere that created Ayers, Wright, and most of his administration. I see a shallow pond that thinks it’s an ocean. I see the possible destruction of the Constitution, and the Republic held together by that document.
I DON’T see a black man.
I’ll tell you what racism is. It’s Obama’s beloved policies that will continue to oppress and keep lower income, urban African-Americans from raising themselves up out of their present circumstances to enjoy a better life.
Socialistic ideas promulgate financial and social equality through “spreading the wealth”. In reality, it reduces the masses to the same kind of dreary existence, while the few elites reap the benefits.
Read up on the former USSR - The United Soviet Socialist Republic, ie Russia. It was far from the utopia proclaimed by the communists.
I really can’t say if its racist or not; because:
1. I have become immune to the constant use of the word. Too many uses with too many definitions; therefore I don’t know what the term means anymore.
2. I am female and older, so probably I am too looney according to popular politics to have a valid opinion.
3. If I have an opinion it may make me a “Republican” sympathizer; worse yet a “Nazi-Tea__gg__-Type; therefore I am again invalid.
4. Yes it is a racist photo ( a photo of a Racist), as in the person in the photo is the biggest racist in our country.
5. I don’t care anymore, if it is or isn’t.
Nice!
Katmoon - so funny! My sentiments exactly - thank you for the good laugh!
What does cross the line are the language and tactics of Obama’s people.
From Pelosi to Bill Press to Brian Baird, there is a coordinated effort to label the Americans who do not want socialized Obamacare as Nazis. For those who ate that reckless and abusive , they deserve whatever punishment can be handed out.
Then there are the thugs in the Obama White House who unleashed Teamster thugs to beat up people opposed to Obamacare.
Then there is Obama’s own words telling those who oppose him to shut up and get out of the way. THOSE are the words of a demagogue who seeks to silence free speech ad freedom of assembly. Those are the words of an outright dictator like Hugo Chavez.
Obama is a very dangerous man - not just an incompetent President. He has already broken the law more than once and needs to be impeached.
Totally agree, and his words and attitude absolutely shocked me. I have never seen an
American president act like this. I am truly in fear that we’ll have a dictator whether we like it or not.
American Girl, in my opinion this is your best post ever. As Tricia mentions above, the collages are brilliant, and they will take some time to really sink in: beautiful work.
And as for all of this “racist” crap. Enough. Enough. I thought O’s mother was “white”? He’s ridden the “black” horse so far that the poor thing is nearly dead. Give it a rest, Oh Holy O. The Joker is a clown caricature and has nothing to do with race. It has to do with inner malevolence so intense that it breaks through and distorts a costume that is normally associated with happiness, benevolence, and good times. It’s a demonic visage, quite unlike the haloed image Thee One prefers (as shown again on the cover of the new Rolling Stone):
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2009/08/05/2009-08-05_president_obama_rolling_stone.html
thanks oowawa!
it brought back a lot of bad memories… But, I think they show the massive hypocrisy coming from the Obots.
MY GOD oowawa, how shameless and obvious can Rolling Stone be? This sort of Obama (jack)bootlicking by the media has got to stop! I’m aware of the old adage that you shouldn’t pick fights with someone who buys ink by the barrel, but lately I think those barrels have been filled with Kool-aid.
I know, Onofre’s arm. The cover of the Rolling Stone can only be fully appreciated by considering the long trail of Holy O artwork with halos, as collected on this site (which I have posted before):
http://obamamessiah.blogspot.com/
And, to me, the demonic Joker-Obama motif can only be fully understood by juxtaposing it with these over-the-top Obama-as-Messiah images, which are at the core of his campaign. To put it bluntly, should we regard him as Christ or Anti-christ? By presenting himself as Christ, he invites the invocation of the opposite.
O-blasphemy.
A rolling stone might gather no moss, but if it rolls through a cow patty, the shit sticks.
onofre—that’s a scream! And being a Texas rancher, I gotta tell ya you speak the truth.
Hey Cindy,
If you want to know what I’m most proud of in regards to Texas
The Treaty Oak.
Even though it was poisoned ten times over the hard work of Texans saved that Tree.
I thought for sure that it was a goner.
The Treaty Oak represents survival and endurance in the face of tremendous odds..
We are all now the Treaty Oak fighting back against the poison that the democrats and Obama are inflicting on this great republic.

Yea and I think he has been on the Times cover 12 times? Follow the money they say? Let them who back him, follow the money that is leaving their pockets as we quit watching, reading or buying their products. If you have AARP, give them the heave ho pun intended.
My wife and I have left that useless organization. They caved in to Shrub and then caved in to That One. Who needs them?
Wow! When you say something about Obama then that’s racism but when you say something about Hillary or Palin, etc then that’s NO sexism that’s about the individual
now you’re learning.

Off topic, but there’s no open thread anywhere in sight.
This is stunning:
Dodd cleared in ethics probe on mortgages
I am so sick of the race baiting. How come blacks only view racism as coming from the outside toward them and never from their side toward whites or others? Obama was racist in his remarks about the Professor Gates incident. However, no one in the media dared to admit that. We do have racism in this country, but some of it is manufactured as with Al Sharpton (Towana Brawly) and now Mr. Obama (Gates). Not EVERYTHING has to do with race. It can actually have to do with character or bad behavior.
Blacks are constantly looking back in history and this generation is not responsible for what happened 200 years ago. They will forever be stuck in the state of slavery and racism until they start looking forward. Blacks have to join the ranks with the Whites/Asians/Latinos/Indians as ordinary citizens. Maybe that’s what’s got them freaked - maybe they don’t want to be ordinary - like the rest of the us. Pick yourself up and carry your load - just like everybody else. Life is not fair - deal with it!
The race card isn’t just coming from African Americans. There are plenty of white people willing to throw in the card whenever someone opposes Obama, like Krugman, Olby, Tingles, etc. And I do think there are many black people who realize racism goes both ways, and there are some who are NOT happy about all these cards a flying.
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/amy-ridenour/2009/08/07/black-group-condemns-krugman-race-comments
But, sadly, there are plenty who think it all comes down to skin color, and those are the real racists. If something is racist, we need to call it out. But, there are too many now that are just way to willing to toss that word around.
But, just as I don’t want to be called racist for the actions of a few, I don’t think we should blame all AA’s for the actions of some, too.
This lady, however, is a hack:

Yes, many AAs support/ed Obama, but let’s not paint one community with a broad brush. There are AAs who see this BO for what he is — a fraud. He’s set race relations and gender issues back 5o years.
or more.
yes, with the help of his kool-aide drinking minions and the whore-MSM.
Yes, and we thank the 8% of blacks that did not vote for him.
Keep in mind that there has been black on black “cleansing” or like Obama cousin his supporters in Kenya outright murder from one tribe against another. There are “clubs” which is just another name for tribes. They have no qualms about killing each other. So I have no doubt some blacks are just as leary of him as other sectors of the USA. (Watch these gut wrenching videos)

Maybe the joker was an effort to stir up conservative blacks. Maybe Gates was too? Maybe Obama NAACP speach was too? Maybe the NYT making a page for African American is to try and enrage whites?
Conservative blacks must understand that conservative whites will help them if they are attacked. Let the Patriotic Conservatives in St Louis be our guide.
Long live the United STATES of America which it is our duty to protect and insure that our Constitution is not trampled on.

Before backtrack the president of the USA represented all the people of the country. You did not have to question it, it just was.
Since backtrack the president of the USA represents the corporations and the chosen few rich people that he can use for a while. The people have no representation.
For the good of the country the congress has to be replaced in 2010 so that the people have some level of representation again.
As far as racism backtrack uses that term because he has never had to account for his failures and it is an excuse he has been taught. Backtrack is of both black and white races and does nothing for either.
Ask the people in the apartment house in Chicago, or the people hurt by his all talk and no action on the environmental waste in Chicago.

Thank you for doing this post American Girl. I don’t see anything racist about that Obama Joker poster. It is the Heath Ledger version of the Joker’s makeup and not the Cesar Romero version from the T.V. show, when I was a kid. It is creepier than the old style makeup, but racist….absolutely not!
The obot Democrats seem to see racism in everything these days. The Joker is a character that is up to no good, with his pranks and sinister deeds. I think that whoever did this poster was trying to say that Obama is “up to no good”, plain and simple.
As for that Malloy guy wishing that Glen Beck would commit suicide…..he better be careful, because Karma is a b*tch. I believe that what you put out into the world comes back to you, so wishing something like that on someone, is just too heinous for words and will backfire on Malloy in a big way.
I suspect that smart individuals like Kennicott and Krugman don’t actually see racism in things like the Joker poster. They’re USING race like a scarecrow to keep dissenters out of the precious Obama garden. The whole race issue truly is a strawman argument.
Exactly so, Onofre’s arm. Scarecrow–strawman–the Joker–”the precious Obama garden”–”my precious” (Gollum, Golem)–Joker: the images circle and interconnect in a network of associations.
That is a darn good way to look at the racism component… a scarecrow. Because, the term racism is so loosely used now and it is hard to defend against without appearing inherently racist by doing so. Race as a weapon is ultimately poison though. The trick is not to return in kind with racial retorts. Actually, there is no need to do this. This administration can be adequately ridiculed with truth.
Ridicule is the best weapon against a Narcissist like Obama. It enrages him and begins to crack his well practiced pacific facade, and reveal the nasty little twerp within. When people begin to witness his true personality, and it’s beginning to happen, his popularity will evaporate. When it becomes POPULAR to poke fun at him, then we’ll witness a very bloody MSM feeding frenzy. It may be the best way to shut him down.
I picture the day–an army of dedicated weisenheimers like myself, marching on DC going “nyah nyah nyah,” holding up O-Joker posters, stopping every now and then to bow reverently (backwards and with drawers dropped) towards the White House, ah, the spirit overwhelms . . .
Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!
Yes, must have that WMD’s(white mooning derriers)! Ahaa
Ah Katmoon–I always wondered what WMD stood for. But just so as not to be racist, BMD’s are also encouraged to participate.
Ahh, the dark side of the moon. Pink Floyd would be honored.
ROFLMAO!! Perfecto; you two are cards, I tell ya!
I’ll be there too but I can’t march (I’m just an arm), but I CAN hold an O-joker poster, as long as someone holds me.
As far as “mooning” goes, I’m a little deficient there as well, but I DO have all of my fingers.
Show’em your bow plucking finger!

Very apt discription.
Krugman has perfectly fine health insurance as a professor at Princeton.Just how does that help him understand the concerns of people not under his or the plan all our representatives enjoy?
I totally believe in Karma.
I am tired of hearing racist everytime someone disagrees with this administration. The day comes you cried wolf to many times and nobody will believe. Enough with the racist slur. This is a Marxist and has nothing to do with race. This was America with freedom of speech. Liberals can not stand truth, so they decide to use race as an issue.
“Don’t let a good crisis go to waste” …When in doubt..whip it out.(the race card that is)
hahaa
I’ve read Detective Comics (the original Batman) and Batman for years. Seen all the movies and even enjoyed the silly 60s TV series…
Funny, I never realized the Joker was black… I guess I really am color blind…
Nocturnal Warrior, I believe the unspoken insinuation behind the racist-Joker charges is that the image is somehow a re-expression of the “blackface” costuming once used to caricature blacks:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackface
BTW–I love to read those comics too!

thanks for adding. there were SO many things that came to my mind (pimping chelsea, etc.) if I would have started, I never would have finished….
Thanks Am. G. in It. Much appreciated, and special applause to the montages. The MSM is now very pathetic, and the Race Card is in their stacked deck, so easy to play.
It’s a pity that the “geniuses” who create some of these posters aren’t as cleverly proactive as they are basically reactive. I wholeheartedly encourage people to voice their concerns and opinions but
I simply cannot approve of any disrespectful and at times terribly vulgar displays. It does nothing to raise the level of debate or discourse.
Americans are better than this.
Honestly, I wouldn’t put it past this administrations supporters manufacturing things like this just to keep “that card” in play. Always playing the victim isn’t becoming a President of the U.S. It just makes him appear pathetic. People who play this card over and over are damaging this administration. So, play on.
Clearly, MSNBC has not watched any of the Batman movies w/ the Joker. If they had, they may have realized that Joker Psychology 101 - The joker is perceived as an insane madman on a mission.
” …An insane madman on a mission” with no line that he will not cross. That’s Ozero described perfectly.
bho the fraud is quite thin skinned for being such a bully from the Chicago bully boys club. That’s the thing about bullies–they dish it out but can’t take it.
No, the Joker poster is not racist. It is satire. After what Bill, Hillary and Sarah have gone through and still choose to serve America, this weenie bho whiner crowd, led by the weenie whiner in grief, is looking and sounding more spoiled and selfish by the day.
Let the impeachment proceedings begin.
Now this is racist.
Why doesn’t the MSM or the current congress address these remarks?
Because That One is as pure as the
drivensnow he blows and can’t possibly be racist.I think it does cross a line because Barack Obama’s original facial color is first completely altered, then additional changes are made on top of that.
It is the identical reverse of what Al Jolson did almost a hundred years ago, and that is now considered racist even if it wasn’t back then.
We cannot know the motivation of the anonymous artiest but I imagine, the purpose of the work was not to make BO look white but to make him look like Heath Ledger, who was white, as the Joker. Otherwise, what would be the point of using that particular ‘literary’ reference in relation to BO?
(Whoopi Goldberg persuaded her then boyfriend Ted Danson, who is white, to perform in black face at the Friar’s Club. She wrote the jokes but the act did not go over too well.)
http://www.pulitzer.org/archives/5666
artiest=artist
Well then, would any caricature repainting Obama as a clown “cross a line” and be considered racist, even if such treatment would be legitimate satire for a “white” politician? Clown make-up changes everybody’s color to clown colors. The figure of The Joker is itself a caricature of a clown’s makeup. Equating a clown’s makeup with blackface is really a stretch, though I think that’s exactly what is motivating the joker-racist insinuations. Does O’s darker complexion make him off-limits to clown satire?
Now, oowawa, you know you can’t criticize Obamacus–he’s destined for Olympus. He’ll be the one pulling the chariot.
That’s a crock of manure. Spread that shit on your garden and not here.
Then the movie “White Chicks” is racism? And like the cops are men, is it sexism? Maybe in the future this will be considered sexist even if it isn’t considered now
See? You had no problem with the Socialist tag did you? You must be a racist if you have a problem with Obama having a white face. He is half white or maybe more.
Could have been a black person put it up and painted on a white face…..
I think the white face was to show him as a clown with the Jokers face. Black face white face it projected evil. It is what it is.
I think the funniest thing will be if it is some kid who did it just to make Obama look like the Joker, as in a clown, and people are spending all this time analyzing it.
Like my montage showed of Bush, he was CONSTANTLY portrayed as the Joker, or a clown. Nothing racial there, heck, no one even cared in the media.
Personally, I think that is all it is. Obama = a joker.
If people are going to hold the same standards for Bush in clown face, then there is NOTHING they can say here. Treating Obama ANY differently is being racist, isn’t it?
We owe you a great big “Thank you” for the time and effort spent on the collages. What a story they tell. Great work.
Thanks, my pleasure!

somewhat OT but how come there has been no mention of the NATIONAL REPORT CARD done by cnn thurs? tho most every state gave obama D’s and F’s, his overall rating was C-. (cnn math?). hillary got high marks almost everywhere but her overall rating was C+ (more of cnn’s kind of math?). still in the end hillary scored higher than obama. i think cnn was shocked by the results and is probably sorry they did this whole reportcard thing because when the show was over, there was no mention of the results anywhere!
b mathews — thanks for mentioning this! I’m out searching for furthers on the web. Here’s one:

The polls over at aol have been running about 72 to 80% against the current adminstration and their policies.

Sounds like Texas primary/caucus “scoring”….
David B. Brown the attorney for Kenneth Gladney, the young African-American man brutally beaten by at least three SEIU members at Russ Carnahan’s town hall meeting in St. Louis, has called on President Obama, the SEIU and Rep. Carnahan to condemn the union thugs’ racist actions.
While Mr. Brown says “the SEIU member used a racial slur against Kenneth, then punched him in the face” Mr. Gladney has so far failed to receive the same attention from the White House that Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates received after getting in the face of a police officer in Cambridge.
Let’s see. Two union members yell racial slurs at a black man and then punch him in the face, and so far neither President Obama, nor Rep. Carnahan or the SEIU has condemned the union thugs for “acting stupidly.”
In these hyper-partisan times nothing will fester more than a perceived double standard.
The charge of RAAAAACISM does not mean $hit any longer. I`d say Dumb-0 shot his wad during the election. Nobody listens to this BS racist garbage any more but people who work for media divisions of GE (government electric) who would be broke if we, the great unwashed, weren`t funding them with our tax dollars against our will.
Maybe he looks too much like the voodoo character, Baron Samedi for people to be comfortable. Any attack on the bastard in the white house produces shouts of racism. All this is is another attempt to distract public attention from the policies he’s backing.
Was Baron Samedi the big voodoo guy in the Bond movie “Live and Let Die”? That guy’s face was all white except for blackened eyes, he was meant to look like a skull. Is the Jolly Roger (skull and crossbones) a slur against whites?
Obama’s skin tone doesn’t qualify or disqualify him for anything.
This is what I can’t stand about the liberals - and I counted myself as one until May 31, 2008 - they live in a perpetual state of adolescence. They want to be grown-ups but they still don’t have the mental maturity to pull it off. Therefore, just like parents, the rest of us catch on to them very quickly. **It’s okay for us to make nasty posters but you can’t ‘cuz that’s mean, racist…fill in the blank…**
What I find ironic is that the liberal 2012ers with their idea of the world being one have foisted upon the land the most divisive and dangerous loon they could have ever rummaged out of the closet of crazies - Obama.
For God’s sake. That One’s color is only skin deep and is inconsequential. What concerns me is his content, i.e., character. He has none because he is corrupt beyond redemption. If that’s racist, then call me racist.
As an NQ poster named Marilyn Rouse once commented before the election:
Good morning, oowawa.
Now THAT is a keeper. LMAO
Good morning, Ferd. Yep, that slogan should have made it to bumper stickers back in the middle of September, ‘08. But then it didn’t, and then Thee One finagled the election, and then, oh well, you know the rest of the sad story . . .
I ultimately agree with NomNomNom’s statement downthread:
Yeah, but the trouble with NomNomNom’s comment is that he thinks it is solely about politics and party. Actually it is about the sense of entitlement, which comes from the base and works its way up. I have been around the block one too many times to think in such terms.
Oops–that sounded a little terse–sorry. I do think you have a point.
actually, I think it’s fascism which is directed through media of politics,(pseudo)party, social engineering, information channel manipulation, education manipulation…essentially any handle available; and one ought to fight back on all fronts.
Imo everyone probably has a sense of entitlement: but what it encompasses can be far different: a living wage, or life among the masters of the universe.
I am not sure what you mean by “comes from the base and works its way up”, maybe you would elaborate?
I think of it like the oligarchs are at the surface and we’re the vast array of little creatures below the thermocline waiting for little scraps to fall through to us. We really need to learn how to use some H2S.
How SHOULD we use hydrogen sulfide?
lol, metaphorically.
I wasn’t commenting to you but, “elaborate”?
Please. The sense of entitlement is there for all to see. I’ve worked far too long for a government contractor and have witnessed first-hand the cries of racism and prejudice that were never there and only created a lot of heat but very little light. Merit knows no color and should be the only criterion against which people are evaluated. As for politics, I didn’t see 90+ percent of whites voting for McCain. Methinks the prejudice lies in entirely the opposite direction. I only state the obvious. The Democrats used this to beat up on HRC, steal the nomination, and win the election. They don’t make decisions in a vacuum, your protestations to the contrary.
Moreover, there are nuances aplenty that I haven’t even touched upon. I will be called a racist and frankly I don’t give a damn. That One wanted the f-ing job and he’ll just have to grow up and deal with the satire and derision coming his way. As wrong-headed as Bush was, at least he took it like a man.
I don’t recall a single time when Bush took a shot at, or had a nasty remark about his detractors, at least no more than a humorous quip. Since Obama has taken office, he has targetted an endless parade of groups and individuals for his verbal, sometimes petulent, negative assessment. Currently, the upset town hall participants have become the target of his tantrum like protestations. Essentially, he has called them the creators of the health care problem, and as such, they should STFU.
His well concealed contempt and disgust for the average American was somewhat exposed with the bitter, gun toting, bible thumping comments, but it strangely made little difference. Now that he’s the POTUS, and things aren’t going quite the way he wants, his elitist and condescending true self is beginning to show. I picture a chain smoking juvenile delinquent stomping around the WH bawling indignantly “Why don’t they love me?” My next image is one of men dressed in white carrying butterfly nets entering the WH. Somehow, it’s both a disturbing and comforting vision.
Thank you.
He is a narcissistic, spoiled brat of a POTUS who then has the temerity to lecture US. He really ought to shut his flapping jib before he does any more damage.
I do have problems with the phrase “we need to stop blabbing about racism on cue” and would rather see something like “We can’t let them lead us to dance to their tune . . . ” After all, do I “blab”? Do you “blab”? Does Katmoon “blab”? Does American Girl in Italy “blab”? No way! We are non-blabbers all!
when I see another thread on racism, BHO’s favorite topic, I feel like we are the blab leading the blab.
But I do apologize for the insult, because I don’t really think y’all are blabbers.
Sorry!!!
And now, one more blab: I really don’t feel like this article with its comments is about racism per se, but about the uses and misuses of imagery, focussing on the O-Joker anti-icon. As such, I think it is more than a thread, but a rich and meaningful tapestry, a dialectic that enriches my understanding. And your comments are part of this tapestry/mosaic, as are American Girl’s labor-intensive collages. /Blab.
Blabber mouth!
It’s true–my brain keeps thinking thoughts to me, and the next thing I know I’m posting them here on NQ . . .
Agree oowawa. I mean what arguement is going to be heard on being called racist anyway-
You are a racist!
And?
We spend precious time trying to convince anyone who either doesn’t care or is baiting to distract anyway.
Nazi, racist, I really don’t care; I mean afterall I’ve even been called a ‘mere woman”, with all the prejudice and bullying that is meant when trying to minimize women.
So for the msm; kiss my unwashed ass, call me what you want. Those who believe you never had an independent thought in their lives. I am displeased with my government and I will express it my vocalizing my displeasure.
For the politicians; call me names on all you want; your insecurity and clumsily held, ham fisted big stick is showing. Smack me down if you want, I will get back up and yell at your foolish ass again-not because you will listen, because I have a RIGHT to!
Yes Katmoon and Ferd, I don’t want to try to speak for NomNomNom, but I believe what is being expressed is that we can’t let them dictate where the battle lines are being drawn. They want to draw a line at racist-nonracist and have us use up our energy fighting across that phony battle-line while their main energies are used elsewhere: for example, in draining the US treasury and enriching their cronies. We are fighting the straw-man, the scarecrow, the joker, that they have thrown out there to distract everyone, while they are robbing the mint.
And still, as I ask NNN below, “If charges of racism are used as a weapon against us, how are we to counter these attacks if we do not directly debunk them and ridicule them?” I don’t know the answer.
And, I see NNN has provided an interestin answer to this question downthread. I gotta think some on all this!
“What concerns me is his content, i.e., character. He has none because he is corrupt beyond redemption. If that’s racist, then call me racist.”
I think MLK’s sentiments got left by the wayside after Malcolm X and his black power took over. So, I think every single time they start throwing manufactured charges of racism at us if we dare comment on BO’s behavior or character, we have to immediately start talking about MLK, to keep the focus on BO.
Circular reasoning
Ah, so a clown isn’t just a clown unless it is a white clown. Where do they get these morons?
Hey Ferd, good morning. Good to hear from you! A clown by any other name is still a clown–unless it’s a mime! Are there any black mimes? Is it racist to even think about black mimes? Somebody needs to write a dissertation about racism in the Clown and Mime communities. Actually, I think clowns are bigoted against mimes–witness the movie “Shakes the Clown” with Bobcat Goldthwait.
Good afternoon to you oowawa.
Black mimes?—LMAO. I would love to see that, for obvious reasons.
oowa—speaking of Bobcat Goldthwait, one of the funniest movie scenes ever is when Bobcat’s cahracter in “Burglar” is arrested and hauled down to police station. When they guestion him, he starts yelling that they’re harrassing him because he’s black…… and then he yells at them: “I’m just a black man living in a white man’s world!” At which point the officer (John Goodman?) tells him he’s white.
It’s hilarious!
I’ll look that up, Cindy, thanks! I usually can’t stand much of Bobcat, but I loved “Shakes the Clown.” The scene you mention reminds me of Steve Martin in The Jerk, who is left on a poor black family’s doorstep when he is a baby and grows up thinking he is black.
The backtrack bunch remind me of the SNL skits about the Whiners. Remember Wendy Whiner and her husband.
They were annoying and after awhile people avoided them when ever they could.
Backtrack whines about racism over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
WOMEN WITH INTELLIGENCE AND EXPERIENCE,MEN WHO SUPPORT THEM AND COUNTY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
The next thing you know the Capaed Crusader himself will be called a racist for wearing a blackhood-type mask over a white(gasp) face. The humanity.
I am in the rinse cycle; I used the words black and white.
Those of you who have followed my posts know I do not now, nor have I ever drunk the Kool Aide. I am also offended by the assertion that people questioning Obama’s secrecy about his birth or objecting to the healthcare plan are racists.
But……
I do think posters of the President in whiteface are racially charged, just as it would be had Bush been depicted in blackface
This is real political satire, unlike some the crap that came (and continues to come) from the obamabot camp. As such, it is protected under the first Amendment. Too bad the obamaslugs didn’t see this one coming. You can only poke a tiger so many time before you get mauled.
It is indeed protected under the First Amendment, as it should be. Whether it was in good taste is a different matter.
Taste? I have no time for such luxuries of thought, especially since poor taste is in the eye of the beholder. That One is a side-show freak who belongs in a f-ing circus.
It could also be an experiment by someone who has watched the often false cries of racism.
Do people see the joker?
Do people see bait for the racism catch as catch can?
It think its politically charged with the intention to see where it goes in the racism discussions. A toe in the water, as it were.
It might be, but who did it? It looked like a pretty good poster too me. Right Wing crazies do home made signs, ACORN gets the best that money can buy.
But it’s not simply “white-face” - it’s the make-up of The Joker. If the distinction isn’t acknowledged, then it prevents anyone from comparing Obama to ANY one who happens to be white - that would really handicap people (which of course is what the race card is designed to do). And also if the distinction isn’t acknowledged, then all the pictures which make BO out to be some kind of Jesus would also be racist - Jesus was some kind of light Arab, wasn’t he?
If there is no distinction between white face and a painted similarity to anyone white, then people are letting themselves get stuck at the race level, IMO. He is being compared to the *character* of those he is being “painted as”, he isn’t being compared to their color….
but of course, comparing obama to anyone black is racist, too. Remember Bill’s comment about Obama and Jesse Jackson?
You’re right! It’s just very clear - if you say anything but praise for The One, you are racist. Oh, and a republican. Because, all dems and independents are strongly in favor of whatever he does - there’s no dissent in the ranks! None whatsoever!! LOL
Sigh. Here we go again. Anytime Obama starts to slip in the polls or he sticks his foot in his mouth, it’s time to whip out the big fat race card. This is truly old tired trick and unoriginal to boot. Obama should insert himself into this conversion and advise his peeps/followers to calm down and step away from the race card for once. Good grief, it’s a play and visual on Obama being a joke is all.
Spot on. He is a joke and belongs in a circus as a clown or a carnival as a side-show barker and not in the WH.
Actually I think the poster is an insult to the heath ledger joker who was down right brilliant. Where as Obama without TOTUS is not. Heath Ledger is dead and doesn’t deserve these insults the artist shoul have had more respect than to compare him with te looser in the white house.
Hold up didn’t the first TOTUS kill itself. I’m starting to see the symbolism. Heath Leger/ TOTUS both Brilliant both gone to soon. Hmmmmmm

Great article AGI and the do up on the posters outstanding too. I am so proud to be part of NQ. The quality of the readers and writers posts here are suburb.

“circular reasoning”
That’s what BO’s thugs use–I mean face it, this guy wouldn’t have gotten past the first speech in December 07 if he didn’t use his race to get elected–now he wants to use the race card every time one more American wakes up to the fact that he has no experience, no leadership qualities, no speaking abilities without a teleprompter and that he wants to “remake America”in his and Michelle’s image.
And where was Contessa or whatever the hell her name is when Palin was hung in effigy, when misogynistic lingo was on BO’s followers’ t-shirts, when Clinton was called a racist? BO’s orgs and thugs really think they can still play the race card? It’s over, Americans have shown they are not afraid of exercising their first amendment rights. It’s not your color, you fraud, it’s the content of your character(or lack of) that is making people turn against you.
“Some men just want to watch the world burn” offers the best explanation I have found for why Obama and leftists in general want to convert America into some dystopian socialist nightmare.
It is very possible that the creator of the poster had that particular thought to inspire that image.
Bottom line; I want one of the posters.
that was fast:

What was fast? Me going to work? I had my fingers crossed when I wrote that.
I like the “why so socialist” one
We are supposed to judge Ozero by his skin color and not by his actions? I guess that makes Martin Luther King Jr. a racist, too.
I honestly don’t get what’s racist about it.
If a white man wears blackface paint, it’s interpreted as a slight against blacks; so conversely if a black (or mulatto) man wears whiteface paint it should be construed as a maligning of typical white honkey acting stupidly crackers.
Excellent bho hoo. If a white man wears a black face, it’s a racial slur against blacks. If a black man wears a white face, it’s a racial slur….against…….blacks. I get it now.
I didn’t see Batman, but it was explained to me that Keith Ledger as the Joker acted much in the same way to change Gotham as BO does with the USA.

Nicely done.

Well this is OT but on it too, besides AIG has the hotest diary going right now
To stay sorta more on topic I will say this have the elitists crossed the line into an Oligarchy?
Democracy vs. Republic - Is There Really a Difference?
Every one should read this article and watch the video. Dr Kate has good article on the internet too regarding the Constitution. “We the People” need to get educated on our rights. We need to donate to sites like NQ and ones that can hire “We the People” a lawyer to push back on what is happening. It cannot go on any longer. When ACON takes over the census, when that National Citizen Army gets organized and the military takes in all those immigrants from countries who don’t like us much, we are going to be in a world of problems. How do you spell Oligarchy and does it sound like any elitists we know?

GA Congressman Acting Stupidly
The arrogant, elitist response of the Congressman to one of his constituents clearly demonstrates his mindset in regard to his office and the people who elected him to serve.
This sort of arrogance and “in your face” attitude is doing nothing to dissuade the opponents of ObamaCare. It only strengthens their resolve and determination.

Brilliant!
Great work, AGI. Love your posts.
Clowns? Sounds like he is part of the posse of insane clowns.
WHY SO SERIOUS?
AGI,
In between my posts I should have much earlier, said thank you for your great article: it was hard to look at som of those images again. To see so many, that were so cruel with only a few voices (No Quarter, River Daughter, Puma)expressing outrage over the content and obvious intent.
You wove a great thread, and pulled so much together. You know here at NQ, we understand, and appreciate the nuiances. Brava! Grazie.

Thanks for a great piece and for those incredible collages. A picture sure is worth a thousand words. I love the image of Obama as the joker, if the shoe fits…
The Obamabot lexicon:
Racism-any comment or discussion of any issue, which does not support either That One or the views of That One.
Racist-a person who makes a comment or participates in a discussion of any issue, which does not support either That One or the views of That One or his lock-step bots.
i for one hope the bots continue crossing the line and the average american gets totally disgusted with them.
I couldn’t get thru the transcript of Brewer and Kennicott.
This is the same WaPo that lied about Al Gore and John Kerry and gave us 911 and Katrina deaths in New Orleans.
Why anybody would give these hacks any recognition is beyond me.
mike, the media lies about everything. your choices of what to complain about is interesting.
uh… did you read it? i don’t believe i am giving them praise. the whole point is what hacks they indeed are.
Thanks ya’ll! I appreciate all the good vibes and comments!
Bush as Hitler;Bush as the Joker.
General Petraeus as “betrayus”
Now somebody mocks the “dear leader.”
Who do they think they are??
Next, they’ll want the names of anyone opposing Obamacare.
Oh wait, they already ARE collecting those names.
Give me a fucking break……
So this would make your point of view fictional?
This ain’t Gothem City fool.
BHO is run by the exact same people who ran Bush: war contractors, financial isntitutions, energy, oligarchs. They do not think the BHO as Joker poster is racist. They do not think anyone being told the poster is racist will believe it is racist. They are saying it is racist to antagonize whites and blacks into believing that the other group is filled with thoroughgoing racists so that they will mistakenly focus on each other rather than our Dear Fascists. It worked so well during the primaries, and here it is again.
The only place you hear that this crap is racist is in the media and online. Your friends are not saying it, your neighbors are not saying it, your classmates are not saying it, your families are not saying it. Only the f#cking media and politicians are saying it.
Average income Americans of all colors have a lot more in common with each other than with these fascist goons running our country. We need to stand together and not swallow the bait every time it is offered like little mindless drones. There are no Democrats and Republicans. It’s one big Political Cartel. We need to stop blabbing about racism on cue and start talking about how to eliminate these bastards who’ve taken over our country.
Obama is the tool of the powers in the Democratic Party hierarchy born and bred in the corrupt Chicago Political Machine. The DNC is controled by old rich political dynastys and for that matter the Republicans are not far behind.
Black man in white face is just a new revelation, pure voodoo, Baron Samedi.
The Democratic Party no longer represents the wishes of the registered voters. That message was made clear last year when Obama was the declared winner before the convention was held. Today’s independent thinking down ticket candidates are being pressured to toe the line and spout the dogma.
Hopefully the candidates that are being pressured will start to come forward. Unfortunately, when you are running for office, you need all of the help that you can get. Individual thought is not encouraged in the DNC.
NomNomNom, I basically agree with your eloquent statement and applaud the spirit expressed, but must ask this question: If charges of racism are used as a weapon against us, how are we to counter these attacks if we do not directly debunk them and ridicule them?
imo It should be outed as a strategy of oligarchism wherever it is seen, and should never be addressed as if it has merit.
Direct all hostiliies to the real source: those who run the media and the politicians: our dear fascist oligarchs.
Point out the discrepancy in what one is told exists and what one sees exists wherever possible.
Because they are not really charging us with racism: they are directing our actions with a piece of meat hung on a stick and fomenting a mob mentality among us that is directable. Say as loudly as possible that one won’t freaking go.
Tell people: I don’t believe that you think we are racists, I think you are trying to stir up trouble, so we won’t look too closely at you.
Okay, NNN–thanks for the thoughtful response. Isn’t this article basically doing just that–”pointing out the discrepancy” between the “racism” that we are told exists in the O-Joker image, and the reality of what we see as existing in the image? If they are trying to set up a racist-nonracist battle-line, can’t this article be seen as an attempt to challenge the validity of that battle-line? If they are holding out a piece of meat on a stick, which is the statement that the O-Joker image is a racist image, isn’t this article saying, wait a minute, that isn’t a piece of meat, it’s a piece of crap! You’re making me think.
I think the meat on the stick is both that the Ojoker is a racist image (therefore the Republicans blamed for it are racists) and that Democrats are claiming that the image is racist when in fact it is not (therefore the Democrats are reverse racists). It is our allowing ourselves to be drawn up into 2 sides that is harmful.
Furthermore, who is really claiming that the image is racist/not racist? Imo it is primarily the media who is putting this story out there, then there is this kneejerk response to it that keeps it going: talking points for one side and the other.
This is the point where we should say: I don’t believe this, it is another manufactured incident: move on to the real news, but instead we sit around arguing the merits of planted talking points.
Meanwhile, real news is occurring in an unreported vacuum: Dyncorp has some of the patents on swine flu, the Military Commissions Act of 2009 has passed, Holder now says the scope of enquiry into CIA crimes will be narrow, Chris Dodd is cleared (thanks TWP), Georgia is again shelling South Ossetia, the UK National
IDDatabase card was cloned 12 minutes, the Honduran military coup has killed more people including a 6 year old child and arrested one of the presidential candidates, yet is being promoted in Washington by Lanny Davis’ firm and Clinton is being advised by death squad leader Negroponte.I don’t want to hear about some f#cking picture, and I’m betting most everyone agrees.
I largely agree with this statement, except for the final line:
I for one, am a person who believes images and their use/misuse are crucial to manipulating public mindsets, and they must be addressed. We have been barraged with images of Thee One as Messiah or Saviour. Look at the cover of the new Rolling Stone! This is in the public’s face, all the time, and it sinks in. Debunking these kinds of images has been an ongoing process. The O-Joker image is an anti-O image, of O as a Diabolical figure, that runs counter to that fascist image of O as Messiah, and so the O forces felt a need to impugn the image as “racist.” If O is going to saturate the media with images of Himself with halos, then counter-images must be used to counteract the Myth of Himself as Earth Angel. I believe this battle will be lost or won as a struggle of images warring for the public heart and soul, and not merely as a rational discourse of competing ideologies.
And so, I think this has been a very meaningful discussion of imagery, and has been invaluable.
hmm, you make an excellent point: imagery is an integral part of social manipulation and absolutely must be debunked: I emphatically agree with you. But I think discussing it under the header of racism rather than manipulation is a trap.
imo the spotlight needs to be put on these goons’ actions against us and indeed their crimes worldwide that are financed with our money: the creeping curtailment of our rights especially of privacy within our homes and the growing militarization of our industry without and now within our borders and its corruption of our ideals, and I would include in that how imagery is manipulated to promote their desired outcomes.
I see no advantage in fighting image with image: we need to be a people who can see through that or any freedom we get will be temporary.
Consider how powerful a single ubiquitous picture has been to completely reverse the perception of a person. I’m talking about the famous Che Guevara picture that turned a mass murdering Marxist monster into a folk hero. The images that we frequently witness can be very influential in shaping the zeitgeist of the culture. Since the O-joker image has gone viral, due mostly to the hyped up negative over-reaction to it, it may well be one of the more memorable icons that we’ll associate with the Obama disministration. It IS important.
Exactly, Onofre’s arm. And indeed, this is what this is all about–iconography. How would Christianity have advanced without its icons? And now that Thee One is promoting himself through literal iconography–images of his beatific puss surrounded by a glowing halo, we would have to be blind to ignore it. And so, we must be iconoclasts, people who smash icons. And we don’t have much to fight with–our wit, a few websites. He’s got the MSM sewn up. Yeah, bring on the O-Joker, the anti-icon and plaster it all over tenement walls everywhere.
yes, the Che representation has been influential: but it’s far more powerful against those not armed with the facts about Che against it. I am on the left end of the political spectrum but I do not feel any revolutionary fervor looking at Che!
Imo it is effective only when one is not armed with facts against it: therefore the spreading of facts is the essential need, not counterimagery. I don’t care for the idea of leading anyone, much less fellow citizens of my nation by their emotions rather than their intellect.
If one political faction is armed with images and icons and controls the media, and the other political faction engages in rational discourse about the issues and has very little control over the MSM, which faction do you think will prevail? If we fight that kind of battle, I believe we will lose. Their Achilles heel, it seems to me, is in the phoniness of their images, and these are very laughable and can be debunked through visual ridicule. This is not to say that the war of ideas isn’t important, but it is not the only front.
One of the things that did hurt Thee One: the IMAGE of him bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia. Another one: the IMAGE of O walking in front while Sgt. Crowley helped Professor Gates down the steps of the White House. One more: O doing the power handshake with Chavez.
I don’t know who made the OJoker. I don’t know that it is anti-BHO, by which I mean it is obviously negative towards BHO, but I don’t think that assures it was made by someone opposed to BHO. At a guess, I would say it is not. It serves him very very well: it has refocused people’s attention where he wants it to go, back on the bogus topic of racism.
Then there’s that socialism tag at the bottom: BHO is not a socialist, he is a fascist. Socialism and fascism are near opposites. Socialists want universal healthcare, tax revenue to be spent on education and infrastructure rather than war, environmental protections; they do not support FISA, militarism, indefinite detention without trial…
Socialism, anything that smacks of leftism, is the new/old boogeyman.
That’s not unintentional: those are the ideologies opposed to the corporatist oligarchs behind BHO and behind Bush before him.
A socialist will tell you that poisoning people’s groundwater mining uranium for nuclear weaponry is evil; a fascist will spew about markets and jobs and ignore that the market doesn’t serve those who are being poisoned and the jobs are lethal. BHO is a fascist.
The only industrial sector in America that is expanding is the military. We are on the wrong road. OJoker is an abbatis. pt 1
The picture of BHO bowing to the Saudi king is fact: it is not iconography. I am glad to see it used.
Chavez is not an ally of BHO: Chavez is opposed to our expanding militarism in South and Central America. He expelled our ambassador under Bush and has refused to replace him with another under BHO; he has withdrawn his ambassador to Columbia in the wake our acquiring the use of 5 more military bases in Columbia (we already had use of 2, I believe).
“If one political faction is armed with images… If we fight that kind of battle, I believe we will lose.”
We have lost that battle already. We have no control over the media. The bigger problem is that we have also no control of the army. I do not imagine that our dear oligarchs are going to go peaceably away in any event. They will either be made to go away, which will necessitate our gaining the support of the military and police upon our behalf, or they will not go away.
They do not at present have an Achilles heel except for our hatred of them. But our hatred focused on the wrong targets and the wrong goals is hatred wasted. imo our hatred should be focused on the loss of our liberties and the evils being committed in our name and with our money and thereby our tacit consent.
We must somehow devise strategies to cut off their monies and their armies from serving them. I do not think arguing about racism in posters is the means to do so. pt 2
News images can become iconic. Just happened on by Huffpo, where the following image was posted. Note that it is an AP photo. Much like the Rolling Stone cover? Just coincidence, I’m sure:
http://images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/97694/thumbs/s-OBAMA-large.jpg
What I really would like to see as an anti-icon is Thee One drawn with a halo of flies.
I agree that the Rolling Stone cover appears based upon the photograph, even as Shepard Fairey’s BHO poster is based upon a photograph (which incidentally has now gotten him sued by the photographer, lol). Both artworks appear staged and have an intent to persuade through emotion that I find repulsive.
I do not see similar propaganda in the unaltered unscripted photo of BHO bowing to the Saudi king; I do see manipulation in the staged photos of BHO as well and I also mislike them. Obviously many photos are staged and not natural: I only find fault with those whose intentions I find lacking in honor, where I believe they attempt to convey a false reality. This is also obviously a subjective decision on my part, I do not deny.
I believe propaganda is wrong inherently because it trains people to be weak-minded fools who cannot be trusted to make decisions on factual material. I’d rather live in a nation where rationalism prevailed: to that end I will not myself engage in propaganda, nor will I promote it in any guise.
I’m far from sure the Ojoker belongs to your side in any event. Why has no one claimed it?

American Girl, please rescue my spaminated reply to this comment. Thanks.
admin: Still in Spaminator. I can haz rescue?
Everythings racist to HObots. Well, that’s not true, I actually realize now that they know it’s not racism, they just claim it and feel they are allowd to, because the end result is all it’s about for them.
When I had one of my husbands co workers, at a BBQ, bring up Palin’s resignation and he started going through all the talking points and ended with the SNL mock, when I went to correct him, he said “I know she didn’t really say it”. That’s not what matters to them. They are fine LYING. I’m hsppy I’m not them.
But I do take exception with the slogan “Socialism”. It should read Communism. After all, that is what Obama is trying to do.
Kennicott is the racist here. He says, if you see a criminal in a movie, it’s really code for black people — even if the criminal is white, because we all know whites aren’t criminals, blacks are. He says criminal = black. The Godfather = black. Hannibal Lector = black. Son of Sam = black. The Penguin = black.
But comic villains are about insanity, not crime. They are all loons or megalomaniacs. I think the Ledger Joker is a good metaphor for Obama’s exploding deficit. The nation is under the thumb of a spending maniac. Fiscal anarchy — that’s just how I feel right now. The poster is a brilliant political critique.
I am appalled by the talk show personality that longs to see Glenn Beck commit suicide on air. Maddow is equally disgusting. I watched a wee bit of her show yesterday and found her feigned outrage at the things being said at Town Hall meetings really laughable. After watching the video of her show embedded in this post, last night’s program seems even more like an incredible farce. Smug, contemptous, and deliberately misleading, Maddow reveals herself to be nothing more than a hack for Oblahblah without a shred of integrity left - if she ever had any. Great post, AGI. It got my blood boiling…again.
and Beck’s joke about poisoning Pelosi? What is the difference? Beck is just as loathesome.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0809/25906.html
When Beck does a stupid skit - outrage in the media.
When Malloy actually draws on tragedy in Beck’s family, and wishes Beck to commit suicide live on TV - crickets.
THAT is the difference.
I will agree that the link to actual events in Beck’s history make the Malloy comment more personally malicious, but I don’t ultimately see much distinction. They are both media talking head dispensing hatred towards their “opposition”, and they are both disinformation sources to which rational people won’t listen (unless it’s to keep an eye on them).
Ah, the old two-wrongs-make-a-right argument, aka common practice. This isn’t an argument but a weak attempt at justification.
I don’t attempt to justify what either of them said: they are both trying to cause trouble by polarizing us into separate camps that exist only in our delusion that we have a two party system. I think their masters are on the same f#cking team, and its even possible that Beck and Malloy know they are on the same team.
I couldn’t care less if Beck and Malloy both dropped dead.
AG in Italy,
This is one of the best threads you have done as it clearly shows beyond a doubt the hypocrisy of both the attacks on the right and Hillary.
As Chicago says..This needs to fly around the internet.
yes american girl, i hope this gets some play. hard work here!
The ignorance and selectiveness of Brewer and Kennicott is only matched by the stupidity of a voter who said God picked Obumble and it says so in the Bible.
The only thing wrong with the poster is that it says socialist when it should have said anarchist.
Now that the charge of racism is being devalued to the point it means nothing, will those that wanted a black president for the inconsequential reasons - a black historical milestone or to absolve themselves of guilt - take a second look at Obama and move away from him?
As race moves out of the picture, the cost of this presidency becomes more apparent. The people who push race to the forefront may see that if they continue to link themselves to a train wreck, they may not get another black president for a hundred years.
God you peole are ignorant….but I digress…
On the contrary–you’re just a flunky and obamabot stooge. Run along, twit.
Ferd, sure am glad you’re around as you never fail to get to the point and in the process be quite entertaining-laughter is good medicine-hope they don’t outlaw it in this HC bill.
They won’t outlaw it, but as it is in the French system, you will need to go to a provider for a prescription. It’s on page 1789 of the bill. (I so hope this is reported to the fishy police)
