[Image/Video Update] Join Us To Live Blog Obama’s Health Scare Speech!

UPDATE: Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), via Allahpundit + Rep. Wilson’s later apology:

The culprit was South Carolina rep Joe Wilson … when The One told what was, in fact, a lie. … Where this jackass gets off lecturing Americans on civility after his cretinous cronies spent a month demagoging the hell out of every protester in sight is beyond me. You’re Mr. Clean, aren’t you, champ? And bottom-feeders like Harry Reid are your hatchet men. …

I’m told that his magic number of “47 million” uninsured Americans magically dropped to 30 million uninsured in this speech, presumably to omit the illegal immigrants who were inflating the tally. …

Update: When do Obama and Reid apologize for their month of jackassery?

“This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”

Below, ORIGINAL POST + video of Rep. Wilson’s “LIE!”:

We’re posting this open thread aka “live blog” thread early so that you can begin to weigh in on any leaks you’ve heard about what Obama’s speech will focus on as well as what the pundits are predicting.

Besides what Obama says, we’ll all be on the lookout as the cameras pan the members of Congress to check out their reactions. Also: If needed, we will add new threads, and we may start a new thread for the speech to be delivered by the Republican minority.

Boy, oh, boy, you’re the last people we need to say this to, but what the heck: DON’T BE SHY! TELL US WHAT YOU REALLY FEEL! Ha!

________________________________________

CONTINUATION OF UPDATE:

Bronwyn’s Note: I’m a bit let down that Rep. Wilson had to apologize, but I do recognize that his quickly-issued apology should help keep the Obamedia from an all-out blitz attack.

Mark Levin is reading pre-released portions of it on the air, and there’s really nothing new in it. But basically, the world is gonna end if his plan (which plan?) isn’t passed.

Comment by Bronwyn's Harbor | 2009-09-09 19:52:02

That is truly amazing. But, now that I think of it, it’s not surprising.

For some reason, those inside the White House bubble still believe that Obama’s rhetoric alone will sway people. They don’t realize that people have been so overexposed to Obama speaking that he has lost that “messiah” effect with which he once thrilled millions.

(He never once thrilled me, but I always assumed I was an odd duck, maybe allergic to Kool-Aid. Even his 2004 convention speech bored me because it was so vacuous and devoid of specifics and an action-oriented agenda.)

Comment by Benjamin | 2009-09-09 20:00:22

Yep, this speech is the same utopia he’s been peddling. You know, everybody will be covered for everything, nobody will be denied anything, his plan will cut costs and be more efficient, if you like you coverage and your doctor you can keep it, and everybody will get a lollipop.

Comment by sowsear | 2009-09-09 20:28:25

Sorry–I’m not with you on your video. I dislike completely the way O has messed up this chance to reform the way healthcare is paid for in this country, but I will not take the stance that the healthcare should not be provided through public funding.

The video starts out by saying our American Revolution was different because it didn’t just change one leader for another; it changed an entire form of government.

The socialism-comes-through-medicine scare tactic doesn’t work for me. That may be what O and his group of 60’s radical wannabees would like to try. But how about trying what our founders did when they decided to put in a public school system. Do you think they were being socialistic or just trying to educate future voters. Well, voters need to be healthly also.

There has to be an entire paradigm shift (to use a sociopsychology babble term). We need to allow doctors and nurses, etc., to use their training as they’ve been taught without having to consider anything other than what is best for patients, pretty much the way teachers are supposed to do with students. And the buildings and equipment and supplies need to be provided by the community and the state with some federal assistance.

If you don’t like the public medicine in your area, go to a private medical facility. There will be similar problems as with the problems with public education. But ultimately it will be controlled by the voters of that state.

There should be absolutely NO profit considerations regarding public medicine. And, then the options, just as with public education, can also exist for those people unhappy with public medicine who can and are willing to pay for something else.

Comment by kgirl1028 | 2009-09-09 22:37:36

I can think of serveral countries in the western hemisphere who could make your government health care a reality just move there. Voila. Until then let me pay for elderly people, handicapped, and childrens health care cause i refuse to pay for an abled body adults heath care. I don’t know about socialsim but i do know you have no right to my or any one elses money. Period.

Comment by Elizabeth | 2009-09-09 23:23:26

I support any insurance system that control costs through incentives for chronic disease prevention and other wellness services. Universal coverage and free treatment for children are great but only if they use reimbursement schemes that encourages eveyone to get off the sofa to get exercise and stops morbidly fat people from eating a whole bag of potato chips.

If obesity screening and required counseling on exercise and diet aren’t enough, make people with unhealthy life choices pay more in health, as well as life, insurance.

Comment by kgirl1028 | 2009-09-10 00:33:26

sounds good, but let’s not forget tort reform and competition. If we simply did health insurance the way we do car insurance we might start seeing some changes.

Comment by felizarte | 2009-09-10 08:55:49

I wonder when Health Care became synonymous with Health Insurance. It seems that today, the two are constantly being interchanged. I personally, object vehemently to the idea of being required to buy health insurance from anyone. It almost seems like being required to pay, just for living.

It is only fair to pay for the services I need, and I have. But I feel I can’t understand why health services rates are different for insurance companies and individuals. Why are drugstores not allowed to negotiate drug purchases so they can pass on the savings to consumers; and so many other elements that contribute to the high cost of health services today.

Your yearly salary will be raped by insurance companies by congression law. Obama will get 1 billion dollars to run for office in 2012 and Insurance companies will make winfall profit.

Good luck america, youre in deep corrupted shit.

Well, for O there has been noting but jetting around the world, flying to NY for dates, eating expensive Japanese beef, buying ridiculously expensive shoes for MO’s stint at a soup kitchen, providing her with makeup artists and personal trainers. How in the heck would he know if the economy is recovering or not; it’s never been a problem for him. Just as it’s never been a problem for anyone in Congress. Why should anyone belive any of those people?

FROM DRUDGE, in BIG RED LETTERS:

“WHIP COUNT: DEMS LACK THE VOTES”

WHIP COUNT: DEMS LACK THE VOTES
Wed Sep 09 2009 17:03:37 ET

At least 44 more moderate Members of the Democrat Caucus have gone on the record in opposition to the current health care bill in the House, a Hill source claims. Likewise, at least 57 liberal Members of the Democrat Caucus have gone on the record saying they will vote against a health care bill without a strong public option.

Unless multiple Democrats flip on their stated position on health care, Speaker Pelosi lacks the votes to pass a bill through the House on the strength of Democrat votes alone.

WHIP COUNT

44 Democrats Opposed

THE NAMES of the Democrats opposed are listed here.

Comment by Diana L. C. | 2009-09-09 20:44:45

Thanks for the list. I will have to write and thank my rep, whom I did campaign for. He is a guy who did take time to sit and really listen to people almost one-on-one for some time.

One thing I haven’t heard asked regards health care for those here illegally. As a health care provider, I know that they are treated in certain circumstances, without question. Without health care coverage, they keep going to the ER when necessary and they are seen. They come in during labor and they deliver. I’m not advocating denial of care and I’m not advocating insurance coverage for other than legal residents. It is simply a fact that the expense of ER visits for them will not stop.

Why can’t their country of origin be billed for expense?

Most excellent question. Takes a treaty. Why not? This sounds like a State Department function.

I have a friend (an illegal) here in New Jersey-who was stricken with testicular cancer. He went to the emergency room at St Joe’s Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey. They ran tests to diagnose the cancer. He was operated on and spent at least a week in the Hospital. New Jersey charity care picked up the ENTIRE hospital bill. To his credit he did arrange payment for the professional services (hospital doc visits and lab work) that were not covered through the charity care and paid those himself.

But I gaurantee: he will dump it for a bill, any bill to save his own political ass. And I say that not knowing whether the public option is truly the answer. I’m not sure it really is.

Too bad out of the hundreds….only one had the nerve to call a lie a lie. I will also send Rep Wilson a note of thanks if his website hasn’t been hacked by Obamatrons. So many of the MSM are totally aghast that Wilson had the nerve to call out. There is a sight that reports the Dems had a field day booing Bush when he made various addresses to Congress:

http://www.audacityofhypocrisy.com/

On Joe Wilson:FLASHBACK: Dems booed Bush during State of the Union Speech…

September 10, 2009

Many hosts and pundits suggested the Democrats’ reaction was the first of its kind:

* TED KOPPEL (ABC host): When the president talked about the bankruptcy of Social Security, there were clearly some Democrats on the floor who thought that that was taking it too far. And they did something that, apparently, no one at this table has ever heard before. They booed. [ABC, Nightline, 2/2/05; Koppel’s panel consisted of former Bush adviser Mary Matalin, former Reagan chief of staff Ken Duberstein, and former Clinton speechwriter Michael Waldman]
* JOHN ROBERTS (CBS White House correspondent): At a couple points in this address, it looked more like the British Parliament than the United States Congress. I’ve never heard the minority party shout at the president during the State of the Union address. [CBS, post-speech coverage, 2/2/05]
* JOE SCARBOROUGH (former U.S. representative (R-FL) and MSNBC host): After the Democrats booed and hissed, Republicans were on the floor saying, you know, we never once did that to Clinton. So every time he would talk about Social Security, the roars got a little louder. And they got behind their president. [MSNBC, Hardball, 2/2/05]

Obama just shined the light on Medicare andMedicaid fraud. While these models could be expanded, who would sign onto this without tackling the fraud issue first?

Comment by Fran | 2009-09-09 21:45:15

The fraud is mostly HMOs (ie insurance companies) overbilling.

Comment by Martha Washington Collier | 2009-09-09 21:52:21

Why not cut out the fraud and waste now and show us they’re already saving money and have no need for rationing…which they are already doing.

Comment by Anne | 2009-09-09 22:52:26

Is that additional fraud as in Medicare part b? Or outside of Medicare and a separate fraud issue? Sounds like we got fraud problems regardless that are adding to our current premium costs. Fixing this should be job one. How’d the SEC do on Madoff?

Comment by Anne | 2009-09-09 23:22:28

Fran - what I dislike is the reporting of statistics to support one pov
I did not mean to imply that govt health program are the only ones suffering from fraud. Fraud, private or public, costs all payers into the system. Apparently, it is significant and huge savings could be found right here.

Comment by tango | 2009-09-10 00:28:41

Oh don’t forget, we had a gentleman here in the Houston area who managed to get something like $30 million paid in fraudulent claims over 5 years by paying people to sign forms he’d then submit for reimbursement.

So it’s not just HMO’s. It’s individuals or small businesses.

In the l960s Canada’s Healthcare system–run by insurance companies in same way it’s now functioning in the U.S.–was dysfunctional and more than a third of the country’s population was suffering.

Tommy Douglas, a Baptist minister from a Third Party (Independent–NDP) pushed the Liberal (minority) government of Lester Pearson to enact a SINGLE-PAYER NATIONAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.

It has worked tremendously well for the past 40 years and in recent survey 92% of Canadians are happy with it. Why wouldn’t they be? The administrative costs are 3% and the U.S. costs of insurance-run plans are 33%!!

Meantime the GDP share of healthcare in Canada is 8% while in the U.S. it’s almost 18%!!

Obummer has been fishy, slippery and timid from the time of the Campaign of Lies and Fraud when he distributed (his promo-thugs, the same jerks who were knocking signs off elderly women and making obscene comments to young girls holding Hillary signs!remember?) the phony brochures of Harry and Louise to misrepresent Hillary’s views. She had shouted: “SHAME ON YOU, BARACK” and the idiot McCafferty of CNN’s Obummer News had called Hillary “a Scolding mother” –a compliment, really!!!

Anyway, Obama never had nor willl he ever produce enough starch to stiffen his weakly, EUNUCH’S SPINE (one of his former ultra-left fans wrote this in OpEd News!) and adopt a Single Payer system. It would take guts that he never had!

Instead, he will be screwing up the current dysfunctional system making it worse for everyone. He should have explained himself 3 months earlier. Instead, his young thugs (at school and too young to be interested in Healthcare Reform and more likely to be incarcerated by now!) were absent as Obummer has always been in the passion department.

Yah, the Teleprompter gave a good rehearsal for the Director. But we all know he’s just an incompetent Understudy….
Ready for your close-up, Mr. Rahmbo (Ballerina) Emanuel?

Comment by mary | 2009-09-10 15:04:55

In the 60s, Canada’s Healthcare system was run by insurance companies and was proving dysfunctional. This is the state of the current insurance-run dysfunctional U.S. system.

A third Independent party politican (Baptist minister) pushed the minority Liberal government of Lester Pearson in 1965 to enact a NATIONAL SINGLE-PAYER HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.

It has worked beautifully, and ask some REAL Canadians about this, nor paid hacks out there in the pockets of the vultures of the INSURANCE LOBBYISTS RUNNING THE OBUMMER WHITE HOUSE!

In a recent poll, 92% Canadians love their system and wouldn’t trade it for the inefficient expensive American system the ends up buying congressmen by lobbyists. It’s only 8% of the GDP while the U.S. helathcare share of its GDP is 18%~~~
Meantime, only 3% of Canada’s medicare for all goes to administration costs. Over 33% is the American cost. You want efficiency, fairness and avoid bankrutpcies due to Medical Bills, Obumer should have kept his Campaign promise for Single Payer.
But he’s been bought by the vultures of the Insurers who spent half a billion to buy him and his cohorts.

Remember when Obummer misrepresneted HIllary’s much more mature and efficient Plan in the Campaign? His thugs were passing around brochures misrepresenting HIllary’s views. Hillary shouted: SHAME ON YOU, BARACK’! And the idiot McCafferty @ CNN for Obama News called her (as if it were an insult!) a “SCOLDING MOTHER”!!!

A former lefty pro-Obummer journalist in Oped News called Obama: “AN INEFFECTUAL, WEAK-SPINED EUNUCH”……and, yes, Joe Wilson spoke the Truth!

So who’s going to pay for this massive health care spending? They bankrupted Social Security and Medicare..how are they supposed to manage a nationwide healthcare modeled after UK? Pie in the sky. And if they manage to pass this monstrosity, who’s got their fingers in the profit pie? Obama, Pelosi, Reid and more..won’t mention who…she is too loved here even though she takes orders from the Council on Foriegn Relations.
