Obama Don’t Know Much About ACORN? [UPDATED[

Barack Obama is our first Jewish President. How do I know? He’s the master of Chutzpah. Check out what he said on “This Week With George Stephanopolous when asked about ACORN:

Click here to watch. http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=8620668

Now take a look here.

And then there is this tasty morsel:

If that is true then why did his campaign give ACORN almost $1 million dollars? He “doesn’t need ACORNS help.” Really? Then what did the $832,000 buy? Is Barack in the habit of spending almost one million dollars on a group that can’t help?

But hey, why take my word. Let’s read what Toni Foulkes, an ACORN official wrote about her buddy Barack back in the Spring of 2004 in the Journal of Social Policy (note, you must register to access the site. I’m excerpting a major portion of the piece):

ACORN is active in experimenting with methods of increasing voter participation in our low and moderate income communities in virtually every election. But in some elections we get to have our cake and eat it too: work on nonpartisan voter registration and GOTV, which also turns out to benefit the candidate that we hold dear.

The March primary was not particularly important for the presidential race, as Kerry was just in the process of clinching the Dem presidential nomination. But it was critical in the U.S. Senate race. On March 16th, State Senator Barack Obama won the right to represent the Democratic Party in the U.S. Senate campaign. Jack Ryan won the Republican nomination that day, but went on to self-destruct over sex club revelations in his divorce papers. Sen. Obama went on to keynote the Democratic Convention in July and was catapulted to the national stage. As Sen. Obama puts it, how did a skinny kid with a funny name become the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, with 53% of the statewide Democratic vote in a seven-person field?

Obama started building the base years before. For instance, ACORN noticed him when he was organizing on the far south side of the city with the Developing Communities Project. He was a very good organizer. When he returned from law school, we asked him to help us with a lawsuit to challenge the state of Illinois’ refusal to abide by the National Voting Rights Act, also known as motor voter. Allied only with the state of Mississippi, Illinois had been refusing to allow mass-based voter registration according to the new law. Obama took the case, known as ACORN vs. Edgar (the name of the Republican governor at the time) and we won. Obama then went on to run a voter registration project with Project VOTE in 1992 that made it possible for Carol Moseley Braun to win the Senate that year. Project VOTE delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5000 of them).

Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus, it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for State Senate and then his failed bid for U.S. Congress in 1996. By the time he ran for U.S. Senate, we were old friends. And along about early March, we started to see that the African-American community had made its move: when Sen. Obama’s name was mentioned at our Southside Summit meeting with 700 people in attendance from three southside communities, the crowd went crazy. With about a week to go before the election, it was very clear how the African-American community would vote. But would they vote in high enough numbers?

It seemed to us that what Obama needed in the March primary was what we always work to deliver anyway: increased turnout in our ACORN communities. ACORN is active on the south and west sides of Chicago, in the south suburbs and on the east side of Springfield, the state capital. Most of the turf where we organize in is African American, with a growing Latino presence in Chicago’s Little Village and the suburbs.

ACORN members were involved in three activities around the primary:

1) Block captains were identified, as early as the summer before the March primary, and provided with lists of registered and unregistered voters and voter registration materials. We attended trainings and accountability meetings to receive our materials and make plans to get the people registered. Then we came back to report on our progress. We also hired voter registrars in the final three weeks to work the supermarkets in our communities. By the February 17 voter registration deadline for the primary, ACORN had registered 12,984 new voters. This was an organizational best for us. (As of this writing, we have added over 27,000 new voters).

2) Block captains then went to work to turn out the vote. They were all volunteers until the last few days, when we received funding to pay some of our block captains in some precincts of the 24th ward (North Lawndale) and the 15th ward (West Englewood) to get out the vote on the last Saturday before the election and on election day.

3) In some precincts in the 15th ward, we were able to hire canvassers to work on voter turnout for a full two weeks before the election. Each canvasser worked two to three precincts during that time.

The results of this activity were very interesting, and mirror what Professor Donald Green of Yale University has found about voter turnout work: where we were able to run a crew of paid and supervised canvassers for two weeks before the election, we did very well. In those targeted ACORN precincts in the 15th ward, voter turnout improved by an average of 50% over the previous year’s city election (the only other election since the redistricting). Citywide turnout increased by only 14% over the same election. . . ,

None of this is rocket science, but it is important. Good door-knocking by community residents for even two half days can impact turnout. Good door-knocking by paid and supervised canvassers for two weeks can have dramatic impact. And a combination of the two, especially with experienced community leaders working with the paid canvassers, can make a huge difference.

As it turned out, Obama won the primary handily, pulling white wards as well as African American. But no one knew that that would be the case. In each election we must act as if our work is critical for our communities. That is what we did in the primary, and we learned something in the process.

Toni Foulkes is a Chicago ACORN leader and a member of ACORN’s National Association Board.

To recap, Barack provided regular and extensive training to ACORN on mass voter registration. When Barack ran for President he hired ACORN (but used a cut out) for “get out the vote” efforts. And now Obama wants us to believe he don’t know much about ACORN? Sure.

Thanks, Larry, great as always.

Related to this topic, does anyone have a clue about the “blockbuster from left field” that Breitbart & Co. plan to release this week on ACORN Secret Squirrel “Barry” Hussein? Any guesses? Supposedly it is big and not another ACORN story.

I was out of the country last week when the ACORN story was just beginning. Now that I’m back I feel like there’s been a sea change in US politics as a result. Is everyone as excited as I am about what Giles and O’Keefe have done for American journalism? Wow.

Chutzpah? Jewish? This is our New Year, Larry. Better you should you should wish us Hag Sameach than in the midst of our celebration try to unload BO as ‘one of us.’

Once again we see that Joe Wilson is right: Obama is a liar.

His campaign was a lie, his bio is a lie, and his policy motives and intent are lies.

What is troubling is that he Obama believes that the CIA are bad guys and that the New Black Panthers and ACORN are good guys.

Comment by tek | 2009-09-21 08:44:45

hokma: You make a very good point. Obama lied right out of the gate in his “biography.” Then he thought nothing of admitting he lied. Oh, wait, his editor did it. His editor thought the book would be more interesting if he lied about his life. So, Barry went right along with it. Hmm.

Shape the agenda of Community values like pimping, underage prostitution and tax evation?

I think the fact he can sit there and say ACORN corruption is “not the biggest issue facing the country” shows what kind of person he really is and what values (lack of) he really has. Does this guy seriously think enslaving children in brothels is not a big issue? Slavery was certainly a big issue for him in the elections of 2008. I guess slavery is only serious if it’s Africans brought to the U. S. to do manual labor, right? (I know, the kids were only fictional, but obviously this is a scenario that has gone by the ACORN people before).

This man is so inept. Wrong thing to say! He should have said well this is certainly a serious matter and if Congress has chosen to cut off funding–since I haven’t been following the subject closely–I approve.

This is Obama’s Achilles heel. He embraced all these corrupt groups to get into office and now he can’t respond to pubic outrage where they are involved.

Comment by Diana L. C. | 2009-09-21 09:57:06

You are absolutely right. I really do wish someone would stand up and ask Obama why the enslavement of young girls in the sex trade is not as important an issue as his healthcare debate. Was not the issue of the slavery of Blacks a big enough issue to cause many hundreds of thousands to fight and die in our Civil War? Are young girls just not that important?

I feel the left, because–as you pointed out–O’Keefe and Giles did not really have thirteen El Salvadoran girls, feels that this whole issue of ACORN is just a joke. They do not want to have to change their small hopey, changey minds so I bet they couldn’t be bothered to watch the videos because they might just have to change–a horrible thing if you believe in hope and change, afterall.

And besides, Obama followers, in my mind, tend to be the type for which money has always been a non-issue. Their daddies and mommies or their government has always provided for whatever they needed, so they just expect it to come magically to their rescue. They don’t worry about the absolute waste of money going to ACORN, and they surely wouldn’t be able to guess how repugnant it is for us who have worked hard and valued our American freedoms and ideals to see our own hard-earned money used to subsidize these criminal offices.

And O/T, but it’s the same issue as the COLB to me. I am absolutely convinced now that bots and leftists know as well as we do that Obama has lots to hide as evidenced by his refusal to release a COLB or his medical and educational transcripts. They just don’t care and they like to laugh at us because they know his refusal allowed him to be “selected.” I am pissed at them that they didn’t think it was right in a democratic republic to have the information out there so the majority could make a decision about his background. They stole the right each of us has to be informed because they feel their desires are so much more important than anyone else’s desires.

It brings up this question in my mind: Maybe the best thing we can do in regard to healthcare reform right now is to focus only on mental and ethical health care reform.

I agree Diana, they all know.

They all know he’s a total fraud and puppet.

They’re just enjoying the power trip, while they’ve destroyed the Constitutional Republic in the process, at least they think they have power for now.

“ACORN corruption is “not the biggest issue facing the country”

He is amazing, isn’t he? I thought making housing loans to people who couldn’t pay back caused the financial meltdown. If that kid had really been a pimp, he’d have the ‘life expectancy of a housefly.’ How long did Acorn think before he’d get arrested–or killed–and the brothel defaulted?

So the criminal use of billions from his ‘historic’ stimulus bill to repeat the mistakes that triggered the meltdown in the first place–there’s a bigger issue facing the country? God help us!

FOX news just nailed it. Obama has time to pay attention and comment on Kanye West and Jeters, but not ACORN, whom he worked for/with and hired, and promised to have them at his policy making table. A man whose priorities obvioiusly are not in check if we are to believe him.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-09-21 10:03:17

And he doesn’t know abt any Fed. Stimulus money they may be getting? So, he’s a liar AND Incompetent! He shoved that bill down everyone’s throat, and now he claims he didn’t know what the hell was in it? Spare me.

Comment by ImaLlindatoo | 2009-09-21 12:46:11

Exactly. Like I’ve been saying, the question should now be “When is Obama being honest?”

Yeah, he didn’t know they were receiving Federal money. This coming out of the mouth of the man who represented ACORN? This from a guy who worked with them on both sides and elected to the US Senate.

And, don’t you think he would have paid attention when he was pushing the Bailout Funds (TARP) when Pelosi was adding a clause that would have redirected 20 percent of all returned monies, we the taxpayers spent, over to ACORN!!!?!!!

And finally, he is the President, the one signing all those bills and legislation, including the most recent with them being hired for the Census and getting money from the Housing and Stimulus bills.

So, which are we to believe? Obama is a liar or not actually doing his job and has someone else reading, writing …even though it is still him SIGNING the bills.

I’m not surprised that Oblahblah didn’t/doesn’t know much about ACORN even though his campaign gave them $832,000. After all he sat in Reverand Wright’s church for 20 years and didn’t hear anything radical that the good Rev was saying.

He doesn’t seem to pay much attention, does he?

Either that, or he’s just a liar.

I think he’s just a liar.

Comment by DAB | 2009-09-21 09:27:45

Obama obviously doesn’t want to get too harsh on Acorn because if he did, they could turn against him and make loads more trouble. That is why he is dancing so gingerly around the subject by his milquetoast response to the videotapes in calling them “inappropriate” rather than “outrageous” or “shocking”.

Would like to see that body language lady that regularly appears on O’Reilly’s show assess his expressions. To me, he looks like the cat who swallowed the canary.

Comment by yttik | 2009-09-21 11:23:54

As to body language, Obama looked self rightious and stabbed the air with his finger when accused of lying. Unfortunately it reminded many people of President Clinton when he stabbed the air with his finger, trying so hard to tell us he “did not have sex with that woman.” I thought Clinton was a marvelous president, but I couldn’t deny the similarities in body language.

Obama is a compulsive liar, and always has been.

I saw the Matt Damon movie, The Informant, yesterday. Damon plays a compulsive liar–a scam artist who sucked in the FBI, the Justice Department, and a major corporation, not to mention their extensive, worldwide corporate contacts. It’s based on a true story, an amazing story, about a con man extraordinare. The Damon character reminds me of Barack Obama. Every word out of his mouth is a lie. There’s a personality disorder in there–I say NPD, but that’s just my personal “diagnosis.” You can pick from any number of Personality Disorders, every one of which involves compulsive lying.

Larry, amen to your comments about the nexus between Acorn and Obama.

FYI, Cong. Michelle Bachmann said that votes to defund Acorn were “amendments” to different bills but still have far to go before they reach the President to sign into law.

Bachmann stated the quickest way to defund Acorn now is through a federal suspension and debarment process. Obama and the Democrats could easily finesse their way to keep Acorn funding through backdoor amendments.

We need to urge members of Congress to immediately stop Acorn funding through this debarment process. F

Oh, come on!

Obama don’t know much about being President either, but he’ll give it the old college try!
What’s to lose? A couple of wars, jobs, health care, banks, and a buck or two.
I’m not worried!

Maybe ACORN will unlock the door to the corruption that surrounds Barry O. It would appear that he has many “Monica moments” to answer for.

Comment by EWard | 2009-09-21 12:50:54

If Acorn isn’t on Obama’s radar, why send out Acorn and SEIU operatives to Town Hall meetings? These people were bused in from all over the country and paid. The regular Town Hall attendees came because they are scared of Obamacare.

Reading these threads on NQ and other sites, Obama acts like a dictator rather than a president. This is surreal. Americans have to constantly be vigilant and protect themselves from their own President. That old saying…we get the President we deserve is true…I blame the criminal media complex, the extreme radical wing of the Democratic party, and the people that voted for him.

I heard that when Obama was an attorney working for ACORN he got “sub-prime loans” to people in the Chicago low-income communities, thereby helping to implement to housing crisis we faced last year, which he said was all George Bush’s fault. I sure hope someone can connect the dots where Obama is concerned. (Is there a journalist out there who is willing to do it?) Thanks Larry for this great article.

Comment by barry bums a ciggie | 2009-09-21 15:37:04

He didn’t know about Ayers or Rev. Wright, or Jones, or all his tax cheats so why would he know about that little organization ACORN. Silly George, doesn’t he know there are more pressing issues for Barry like, oh, doing a media blitz to save our country and economy?

Comment by TeakWoodKite | 2009-09-21 15:43:11

They were all volunteers until the last few days, when we received funding to pay some of our block captains

This bothers me, because in Philly and in many other places the local BO /DNC captians where complaining that they had no “walk around” money AND that paid BO reps were being brought in to run the show.

He did know his charges were freezing.
He doesn’t know about ACORN, when he gioves speeches and renders legal services.

How can one seperate “well intentioned” from “he lies”?
