But that did not change the fact that I agreed with him politically and philosophically. I surely was not going to fall in line with another political group whose views on life and politics I did not share. He had fallen for another woman yet had a wife that had a life-threatening illness at the time (he would later say, Elizabeth was in remission when it happened.) He got Elizabeth to basically lie as well. It doesn't get much worse than that, but the thing that made it the most disgusting was how he continued to present himself as this idealistic family man who, for instance, made a big deal about always celebrating their wedding anniversary at Wendy's like they did when they got married. Governor Sanford had some sympathy from me until he said, "the other woman was his soulmate" in his efforts to show he wasn't just screwing around. Then he said he was "trying to fall back in love with his wife." That should not have been for public consumption when you are a governor of a state trying to save your neck.
