Yep, really big eggs on these two faces. And, hey, I’m also embarrassed. We elected a President who thinks his campaign style that bamboozled over half the American voters will play forever all over the world.
Will this fall from grace, this “sacrifice” the First Couple endured to pimp for holding the 2016 Olympics in Chicago (on our dime) wake up anybody in the White House?
Obama blew off his failure to stun the Olympic Committee into weepy submission with the cheeky response, “You can play a great game and not win.”
Is he freaking kidding me? It was a stupid game—rolling out celebrity to compensate for substance. Oh yeah. I forgot. It worked before. But that is when too many people trusted all the hype (without looking for any backup evidence), before our path was strewn with broken promises, before the indecisions and inactions, before our treasure was raided, and before spending more time TV-station hopping and globe-trotting than strategizing with General McChrystal on how to resolve the neverending War in Afghanistan.
Earth to Administration. Wipe off your faces and smell the coffee! We have real problems here at home. Deal with them!

Great cartoon in the Washington Post this morning showing BO running through various Olympic events: High dive off WallStreet into Housing pool, over Health highbar, around the Foreign Policy track, under the Jobs barbell, around the Climate Change Hurdle, and ending up in Denmark, dripping with sweat, and saying, We’ve been preparing.
Ha! Ha! Pat!
Two over-easy!
Did the Obamas leave a tip? LOL!
Ouch! The US was the first to be eliminated!
They misread the politics of the IOC. Theu thought for sure Europe would go for Madrid, Asia for Tokyo, South America for Rio and they thought for sure by bringing up Obama’s daddy was African that would get them past round 1. Then they thought they could pickup votes to compete with Rio each time somebody was eliminated. Fail. I guess the rest of the world isn’t buying the fairy tale… or the guilt bit. The rest of the world saw the pitch as the tawdry pitch it was. Good for them and good for Rio. The best city won. Chicago style politics lost. Appreciating that is about as American as it gets.
Obama thinks that America is still buying the fairy tale. So I suppose that it is only natural that he thinks that the rest of the world remain bamboozled.
Pat:
You are definitely “spot on” on this topic!!!
“You can play a great game and not win.” Too bad he won the great game he played in the last campaign. The American people lost also….we knew he was all mouth with no substance, but the voters couldn’t see the past the rhetoric.
It makes my blood pressure rise every time I see him on the boob tube….EVERY day, day and night, with repeats. Who’s paying for Airforce One to fly him and his family on these vacations/junkets???? He needs to stay in the Oval office and run the government (if he knew how) instead of campaigning the world over.
WE, the taxpayers paid for this 1MILLION plus fiasco. Just so he and Michelle could go over there and make our country look like idiots.
The liberals won’t get their free health care and we will still be in Iraq and Afghanistan. I wonder how many are disillusioned already?
One million for Air Force One, but much more for Air Force Two (michelle’s ride) and for the cargo planes, bringing the limos, the fuel etc… And even more for all the entourage and secret service travel and lodging. What an outrage!!!
Think of the payoff they were anticipating!
uh, correction…you mean Michelle’s “sacrifice” no? After all she went through you call it just a “ride?” And what poor Oprah had to go through too? Geesch. That racist IOC!!!
I’m giving more thought to that Oval Office assignment and I have concluded that having O junketing around the world in AF 1 giving speeches might be the best way to use up his time for the next 3 years.
I agreed. He’s not a commander nor does he have the knowledge to get the job done. Keep him busy with bs. Let the professionals do the work, we’ll all be better off for it, and when elections times comes….let the corrupt dems know how they have failed the electorate by stealing Hillary’s nomination.

… rolling out celebrity to compensate for substance. … “
Perfect headline. Perfect copy. Perfect artwork. You’re three for three, Pat!
i second that! brava!!
Thank you kindly, Mandeley (and Sara too)
Yes, Pat, this shows the world what others think about our POWER.
Delusions of Grandeur- a delusion (common in paranoia) that you are much greater and more powerful and influential than you really are.
Yes We Can ! !
Round One of the voting begins:
Madrid 28 votes; Rio de Janeiro 26 Votes; Tokyo 22 votes; and the Big Dog’s City of Chicago 18 votes.
So 18 members voted for Chicago in Round One, and 76 members voted for another city. Chicago and the Big Dog fail miserably. The trouble is, they thought they were going to win.
That is the status of thinking in the White House. It is all going to be good. We are going to win. We will win. Delusions of Grandeur: We can win in Afghanistan (what about Iraq, do we win there?) and Pakistan will rid themselves of all the Taliban; we can have Universal Health Care for All, everyone will be covered. Yes We Can.
It is not about the President, it is about American Foreign and Domestic Policy. We have never recovered from the economic impact or the mental anguish of September 11, 2001 and its aftermath.
The Olympic vote is a wake-up call. The world is not as our American Eyes and Press see it. We are not in sync with world reality. We do not rule the Planet Earth. Our power is not as strong as we think.
Great picture Pat (as always) and of course people like Rev Jackson are already blaming…yep Bush http://www.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/2009-10-02-3993461789_x.htm
I wish there was video of the scene on the plane when they were celebrating how wonderful they are and Michelle talking about when she was a small child of 6 foot 20 years sitting on her daddys lap watching Carl Lewis win the gold, and THEN they found out they got the very least amount of votes. I bet things were flying (beside the plane)
I can’t believe they didn’t think Obama’s reason of wanting to be able to walk to the Olympics from his house, was good enough to just give him the Olympics…damn rascists.
Hahaha. According to MOTUS (Mirror of the United States at http://michellesmirror.blogspot.com), FLOTUS was throwing a lot of “F” bombs around the plane on the trip back to her least favorite country. And I don’t doubt it at all.
I love it, thanks needed a chuckle this morning.
Have you read “Up to here in Election Fraud in SC,
from the Chair of the 2008 DNC Convention to the Chair of the DNC”? See how many envolved with this one. If your from SC file a complaint. Find this article at: http://jbjd.wordpress.com
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Team BOMO’s loss is our gain. One less bailout for the American taxpayer to worry about.
Emerson. We have plenty to worry about without worrying about Chicago graft and how that will affect our image out there in the world. Plenty being the President.
That’s for sure. The sky is only falling in Obamaland.
Funny cartoon, Pat. It reminds me of the days when it was a fad to reward a pompous public figure with a pie-in-the-face. Of course, in this instance the hyperinflated public figures did it to themselves . . . no pie necessary. The message from the Obamas to the IOC: “If you love me, and I know you do, you’ll send the Olympics to Chicago.” Message from the IOC to the Obamas: “You know we all love you both deeply, and Oprah too, but when it comes to choosing between the Cesspool of American Politics and Rio de Janeiro, well, we’ll send you a postcard from the beach at Ipanema.”
LOL! Nailed it, oowawa.
IOC is quite particular about sportsmanship and honest games. Who knows, they voted one for HILLARY?
Works for me!
Another GREAT toon, Pat! PERFECT!
Big LOL!
When you have kids like Derrion Albert being BEATEN TO DEATH in front of a Chicago public school …
and the hundreds of youth who inexplicably die and no one comes forward to report the perpetrators…
and a city who’s murder rate is #1 in the nation, even beating NYC…
when you have 1/2 a city living in squalor thanks to President Obama’s friends who usurped public funds to manage public housing…
How the hell does President Obama (who did NOTHING as a Senator or Rep for the district) expect the world to listen?
Good for Rio & Brazil who’ve really worked their asses off this past decade for energy independence & boosting their economy ON THEIR OWN.
The idea of actually performing work towards a meaningful end is lost on those like That One, who expect to have something handed to them simply on their own say so. Such a sense of entitlement That One and his minions possess.
“and a city who’s murder rate is #1 in the nation, even beating NYC…”
Oh, Tampa! As a New Yorker, I simply must speak in defense of my “peeps”. Among the 10 largest cities in the U.S., NYC’s crime rate has been the lowest for the last 5 years, and it’s still declining.
My uncle, who was born and raised in NY, has lived in Chicago for more than 45 years. He said it best. “Crime trickles from the top down. We’ve got to clean up the government before we can clean up the city.” Blago’s indictment was a good first step, but the corruption is still rampant.
Exactly! A lot of my family live in the Bronx so I know NYC’s crime is waaaay down.
Your uncle is right, Chicago’s problem is the Daley Machine, of which Obama Administraton (except for Hillary) is a card carrying member.
Paraphrasing Michelle Obama’s words: If Chicago can’t keep their own house in order, how can Chicago expect to be the host of the Olympics?
And if Obama was really interested in getting the Olympics for Chicago, why didn’t he do a more effective job as a state senator and US Senator to help his state/Chicago?
Oh yeah….
Tampa, literally everything BO did prior to Nov. ‘08 was geared towards paving his way to the White House. Every move was carefully designed with one objective in mind; he sought to make connections NOT a difference. His record number of “Present” votes in the State Senate presaged his absence from 20% of the votes taken during his 5 minutes on the Hill – i.e., why confront a tough decision if you can avoid it? And this seems to be his philosophy even now. By the same token, he sold himself as “a man of faith” until his choice of a church came under attack; but, for those who believe that he joined Rev. Wright’s congregation for any purpose other than what he could gain by this affiliation, you’ve got to wonder why he and Michelle have not attended a service since he launched his campaign in 2007. In short, this country has elected a self-seeker not a public servant.
Bingo. When will the lemmings wake up, and make it impossible for him to run for re-election? Please.
Haven’t been here in a while due to being super busy at work, but wondering if you all have taken note of Gore Vidal’s comments on the absolute disappoinment of the Obama administration this far. He says he has great rhetoric which has amounted to nothing, and basically is clueless about how to be a commander in chief to the military (my paraphrase). Let more of the great liberal minds start saying the same and maybe we can be rid of this turkey in a few years.

i used to like gore vidal, but i’m afraid he was blinded by Zero’s manly “charisma,” and he, like so many of the kool-aid drinkers, was simply infatuated with the idea of a black male president, but one who was “elegant” and not “too black.” sheesh. america gets what it deserves.
i agree that crime in chicago and many of america’s big cities is outrageously out of control, but i disagree that it trickles from the top down; i think that governments reflect the general state of their constituents, so if anything, it trickles up. it does go both ways, but there is no way in heck that a general population that is lacking in ethics itself is going to put in place an ethical government. it would be a lot easier to fix the problem if this were not true.
The unfortunate thing is the scenario you present could be applied to every city in the U. S. This country is drenched in mindless, senseless crime. I do not understand how it can be that our government can police the whole world and turn a blind eye to huge crime problems right here at home.
Excellent cartoon, Pat. However, the eggs should have been scrambled like his any-way-the-wind-blows policies and not “sunny-side up” as these two boobs have no sunny side to them. As a matter of fact, they are a depressing pair.
LOL Ferd–decidedly scrambled–or maybe soft-boiled. I’m waiting for the grand Humpty-Dumpty finale.
LMAO. All The One’s Bots and all The One’s asses couldn’t put Barky together again.
Soft-boiled and half-baked, indeed.
Obama prefers poached?
Nah, he likes eggs Benedict (Arnold)
Good one oowawa!
I believe Gen. McChrystal did the pie-throws!
He is not backing down! Good for him!
Support our troops!
Funny cartoon and great drawing. It seems odd that the President (and subsequently the news) give equal attention to the Olympics and Iran talks.
This was a good loss and one that was needed.
Love the ‘toon, Pat. I’ll have to be catty here, but I almost lost it when I saw MO’s get-up at the IOC meeting. Was that Big Bird with a MEshelle mask on, or Tweety Bird? What’s with the big bow in the ftont that just accentuates the bubble in the rear of the dress? Who is dressing that woman?
I’m meeeeooooowing too, Clara. That sparkly (metalic?)fabric with the bow and the ill fitting skirt (bubbled in back and front), too short, lit her up like a Christmas tree…not to mention the earlier unfortunate dress that she adorned with three brooches.
She just doesn’t learn does she? Sadly, she didn’t top it all off with the addition of one of her many rubber-looking rib belts. That would have really made her iconic look complete.
BTW, Pat. Love the cartoon. Next time I do believe MEchille deserves multiple brooches though.
brooches wow I thought those were medals?
You could be right…or awards for fashion disaster of the decade.
that’s it awards for fashion disaster of the decade. LOL
I agree that woman’s outfits are one more hidious than the other. The ouside does match the inside. L’habit fait le moine.
Pat,
Very reminiscent of an early ’70’s “National Lampoon” cover that had the iconic picture of Che Guevera with an egg on his face. The theme of that issue; “Is nothing sacred?”. Thankfully, in the entire history of American politics, nothing IS sacred, and regardless of the protective shield of phony racial sensitivity that the MSM has thrown over the Obamas, their very actions have punched holes in that shield through which our well aimed ridicule and mockery can penetrate. The Obama’s own buffoonery and tawdriness is beginning to dissolve their teflon coats, and as I predicted, when it becomes accepted and popular to yank them off of their styrofoam pillars, they will become ineffectual in their efforts to drag this country into a Fascist sewer. The American birthright to ridicule our leaders is the best weapon we have for halting the most radical and destructive move to the ultra left that this country has ever faced.
How do you remember that? Well done.
Nothing like having a degree from Haaarvard and ending up as a short order cook.
ahhhh I love the smell of egg on the oblahma’s face in the morning. Its a beautiful stench indeed.
I am especially glad it happened to michelle with that pugnacious look on her face 24/7 it definitely rivals dick cheneys. Can you imagine them in a face off?
oh and lets not forget satan’s barmaid oprah!! will she ever go away?
She’s considering whether to do another season. Maybe this will do it. Note to Oprah: You only have three more years (Allah, willing) to continue dipping your toes into the WH Pot of Gold. What’ll it be Ophey? Czar of Fashion? Czar of Books (and their burning)? Palin’s got one coming out you know. So many choices, so little time to figure how to prop up your fortunes on the backs of the American people. But hey, you’re in the two most corrupt cities in the USA so maybe there’s all the time in the world.
I stopped watching ohpra a long time ago. Despise her and her condescending attitude. She is a disgusting pig IMO.
I am so glad she got jerk slapped into reality just like in South Africa.
Yeah, Tex. I stopped watching her after she revealed what a racist she is. I heard through the entertainment grapevine that she might call it a day. Enuf already.
I’m surprised she didn’t adopt one of those orphan girls in S. Africa to groom as the first Black African President…oh, sorry, second.
I quited watching O too a long time ago. This God complex she has is repulsive. And now what we see is that you can get O out of Chicago, but you can’t get Chicago out of O. Corrupted to the core, like her dear friends.
LOL! Indeed!
I bet it was “hard boiled” egg with MO last night, especially after her telling the entire world that as a 20 yr old she sat on her fathers lap watching the olympics, the gruelness of the world not lapping up such an endearing story as that……….rotflmao
Haa, haa, great cartoon!
The Danish news headline:
Rio Won, Obama lose.
They went on to say how pompous and “American” it was for Obama to just fly in for a few hours to do the pitch, like it was some pow wow business deal. Tony Blair spent 3 days to pitch for England for the 2012 games. Barack showed poor form.
Yes, they are the New “Ugly American” Democrats in every way…ignorant of how others see them, condescending, arrogant, patronizing from above. Just like their followers.
MEchille’s nouveau-riche un-fashion combined with the benevolent tone in her ridiculous speech was sickeningly un-representative of the American people. 0zer0 did no better. How amateurishly written and delivered. One report said that MEchille declared that after her speech there wouldn’t be a dry eye in the place. Emotion is what you feed your bots, MEchille. Intelligent professionals who deal with varied cultures internationally demand more than a soppy, smarmy “presentation”. A junior advertising account exec would never have been allowed to give that presentation to a domestic client, much less in front of the world.
An embarrassing display of their incompetence…and the whole world might have actually seen it this time. The veil is lifted; the genie’s out of the bottle. No going back now! They outed themselves. It was bound to happen. How could those false ego’s get any more absurd without exploding around the globe?
Her Hackness even managed to work “hope” and “change” into the same sentence. I suppose she has been convinced that anyone hearing these magic words will become her adoring fan. Nyet, Comrade MEchille.
How about “Me-shill” instead of MEchille…. since they’re always both shilling for themselves!
I like it! ME-shill it is. Perfect companion for the Chi-town Flim-Flam man.
There are tipping points in politics. I think this Olympic fiasco may be the tipping point for the Messiah. Just think about it. The timing for Barack and his handlers could scarcely be worse. With health care mess in shambles, with crap and trade on the rocks, with the stimulus plan not working, with continuing unemployment, with his desperate attempts to campaign through the presidency, with the exposure of ACORN and his Czars, with the birth certificate issue working its way through congress, with tea parties growing, with the race card not working, with NATO confidence waning, with Hobson’s Choice in Afghanistan, with influential elites questioning their choice of him over Hillary, with the hope and change message becoming trite and his blaming Bush for his elimination in the first round sounding absurd, things are not going swimmingly for the would be American Idol. At some point, the political grandees who supported Obama, the spinners who promoted him, and the media mouth pieces who lied for him will be persona non grata.
Ha, Good one, Pat!
reminds me of that ad…This is your brain; this is your brain on drugs.
This is your ego…
This is your ego on steroids…
The Ego has Landed–SPLAT!*****
Hahaha. Remember the cartoon of Bambi and Godzilla? Again, splat. In this case, Godzilla speaks Portuguese.
birth certificate working its way through the COURTS specifically the federal court in California, as I recall.
OOPS, obviously someone forgot to give the IOC the Obama knee pads, or AF1 wasn’t carrying big enough incentives. Actually they’re probably just racists.
Ha Ha……cartoon…..funny! God-Damn MSM, attacking Hillary so that controlled, blackmailed puppet….robot can be put into WH. Clinton, 2012!
Palin 2012
“
OK….But, I will put my EGGS with HILLARY!
Clinton 2012. Sarah Palin is turning into a corporate shill.
How could you when she stumped for Oasshole? It’s time for an American once again.
I suppose you’d rather have Kerry as SoS. Someone has to actually do some work and HRC is it, apparently. This isn’t about HIM or about HER–it is about how WE are best served. She represents the best in this sorry administration and I’m glad she’s there. She’s no better and no worse than any politician before her.
Think of the alternatives prior to criticizing her. She could have left the country in a lurch by leaving in a huff. No, HRC is made of far sterner stuff and she’s out there protecting OUR interests against HIS interests in the only way she knows how–by actually serving.
My only hope is that at some point this will bring an end to the HRC is bad because she works for That One malarkey.
Glib, Tek, but empty.
NBC Universal might get sold to Comcast. That should remove the GE agenda and revert to viewership as the standard. In this case, Mathews et al should be nervous about their ratings.
Got eggs?
BIG ONES!
The puppet travels thousands of miles, on tax-payer’s money! The blackmailed puppet can only confer with his own general for only 30 minutes? SHIT!
And the General didn’t look like he was ready to do the happy dance either. That’s the problem having a boss who is more empathetic with your enemy than your troops. His agenda becomes more clear every day.
Turns out he doesn’t have quite the star power he thought he did.
If Bush were in office, I’d say it was Bush League; a similar comment about Precious might construed as racist.
Great cartoon and wonderful comments.
Pat, I totally agree with what you said. The president needs to remember that he won and that now he is the president of the U.S. and his job is to represent and take care of the country and not just Chicago.
This reminds me that there is a difference between buying a company and having the skills to successfully run a company. Many may be able to buy a business, but few can run one successfully, especially if the business was in trouble to start with. We know that Obama and his people knew how to buy the business. When are they going to show us that they can run the country successfully? I, for one, hope they start soon and that they are successful or we all lose, even those who did not vote for Obama. Yes, I think that our government is a business and Obama is supposed to take care of the peoples’ business.
Rich
Looks like we know where the chickens roosted! You know someone mentioned the one would be even more difficult after being told no. I just read at http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=aoastX4gPbFM -that, o is more or less going to hold jobs hostage for the passage of the health care reform bill:
He isn’t done with us by a long stretch and he does intend to get his way no matter what regarding the health care reform bill. I believe this man will let people continue to go without jobs and funds and an ability to have either to get that bill passed. If he turned a blind eye as a community organizer to those slums his “friend” Valerie J. was more than happy to receive compensation on; regardless of the filthy conditions and who was being harmed, it wouldn’t be that hard to continue the blaming other’s game while he hammers on the need to pass his health care plan as a bamboozlement to (wink wink)to create jobs. This on its own should scare the hell out of anybody in support of that plan. If he cannot be honest for one moment when addressing the need for the plan, blaming the unemployment rates on the lack of it, there needs to be a call to the WH shrink for a very quick mentally fit eval. He is losing it, and the more he doesn’t get what he wants the more the American people will suffer.
Just like That One to compare everything to a game, irrespective of its relevant importance. The Olympics should have been the last thing put on his plate.
As far as I’m concerned he only talks the game and not very well at that but, moreover, he lacks the intestinal fortitude to actually work at it. He really is shallow and shiftless but at the same time far too “busy” to get a single thing right. The only thing he’ll be remembered for is
Even promoting Chicago was way over his pay grade…
Trouble is Ferd, the IOC was playing International Soccer and Flim Flam man and MEshill were playing Candyland.
Yeah, That One is never on the same page as anyone else. The bots chalk it up to his “greatness; I chalk it up to intellectual laziness.
Or just plain vapidness.
Yep, play a great game and you are still a LOSER. I guess Barack thought he was competing for the Special Olympics. That is not a knock on the Special Olympics, but I thought Barack was the smartest “evah.” Maybe he needs some special advantages in order to “compete.”
Agreed, LJ. These analogies he makes to sports hide the real truth which is that he is no competitor at all. My take on him, gathered through independently-verifiable and objective evidence gathered since he started others on the process of selecting and electing HIM for President, is that he really does expect those to whom he speaks (lectures) to have a sudden and life-changing epiphany and become a supporter. He is quite delusional.
He obviously has not read Sun Tzu.
How many wars has America fought where politics over took good sense?
I’ve read on the AP that there are “divisions” with in the “inner circle” of Obama’s administration, with having to chose between the combatants on the Pakistani border as apposed to the Taliban.
Biden and Jones is for the Pakistani option; Crystal, the SOS, joint chiefs are backing McCrystal.
It is difficult to achieve a policy that takes the regional overview and incorporates co-ordinated movement. While we are in Iraq in a major way Afghanistan will continue on it’s current path.
Iran can create problems for us in Afghanistan and Iraq, leaving Pakistan as a drone problem.
How long will it take the ME to go at this rate?
Is this Obama’s Vietnam?
Danish newspapers have said how the Brazilians came a couple of weeks, were warm, met with people. Gee–they didn’t blow in and out and talk about sitting on daddy’s lap and what a sacrifice it was to schlep in on AF 1. As for the whole coterie–how embarrassing, how transparent, and what bad form to use the W H as a Chicago lobby. Yet, like the rest of you hear, I cover my …uh…embarrassment with laughter.
In other words, the Brazilians allowed the IOC to see and interact with their committee rather than being educated by the pompous asses from AF1 about their ancestors.
I also wonder what Ophrey’s function was on this trip? Drumming up biz? Standing next to MEshill to make her look smaller? Don’t worry Ophrey, she managed to make herself look small enough. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
Yes its crazy every time they speak Mom and Dad are in the mix somewhere or the hard upbringing they had. Did their parents not set them on the straight and narrow to go out and build a life for themselves and to act on life skills accordingly? as individuals.
This is a country he chose to run not some mixed up family circle magazine.
I am sure there are many who do not want this country built/modeled on the foundations from some parents way back when!
It’s time to stop this sob story its getting really old
Sitting here, tapping my foot, waiting for someone to ultimately charge the Olympic committee with…..what else? Racism.
Great toon, as always, Tricia.
the eggs have landed
The regular folks here in Chicago, you know, the ones who are not part of the inner circle of the Combine graft machine, couldn’t be more excited about these results. We did not want this mess, cost and aggravation to visit our city.
Now maybe the mayor will start taking care of the problems he was elected for, and get this city in control.
THANK YOU, IOC!!!!!!!
…and thank you, God.
AMEN!!!!!!
Unless those eggs were brown, this post is racist.
/lefty sockpuppet off.
Can one of the NQ writers do a post on this? The idea has been floating around since last year, promoted by Jack Cashill. Now there is some corroboration of sorts with the Anderson book.
But I have seen this nowhere except on American Thinker. When Oprah got duped by James Frey, it was headlined across the world.
We need to find out if this is true.
http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/10/media_malpractice_ayers_dreams_1.html
Sorry, forgot the link.
Yea, there is but a singular That One and Ayers is his prophet.
To be fair, I think there are three important reasons Brazil won the right to host the Olympics:
First, South America has never hosted an Olympic Games.
Second, Brazil doesn’t live in fear of international terrorism, and the chances that terrorists would want to disrupt the games there are lessened somewhat. Also, people around the world aren’t clamouring to emigrate to Brazil and neither is Brazil particularly worried about guests ‘overstaying’ their visas. Both these things mean that Olympic officials, athletes and tourists will have an easier time getting visas to attend the games.
Third, when you think about a city known for celebrations and partying, where the IOC officials can be guaranteed to have a good time, Chicago isn’t even in the same league as Rio de Janeiro and Copacabana beach. The fact that the American president and his darling family would have easy access to attend the games, and the First Lady’s teary and sentimental sales pitch couldn’t conjure up dollar signs quite the way the presentation of Brazil as a nation of 400 million sports-mad spectators could.
Every regular here agrees with you. So why did our resident neophyte and the Lady Me-Chelle actually think they could make a difference, given these self-evident circumstances? Are they that clueless or out of touch or too self-absorbed to understand those circumstances?
Whether breezing in and out was arrogrance or realizing you’d been dealt a bad hand with Chicago but not wanting to be the only leader not to show, all is well that ends well. Obama didn’t invest more time and the US was spared another Olympic-sized boondoggle.
But the pressure to pull out all stops to personally lobby voters was ridiculously intense for every bid country. The Japanese delegation even tried desperately to get their Crown Prince and Princess a trip to Copenhagen in addition to Tokyo mayor and the Prime Minister. Fortunately that didn’t work out…on the other hand, at least they got to the 3rd round.
Don’t make excuses……so the the Japanese royal famil has better sense! We all know that…Berry Soetoro-loser!
Don’t make excuses……so the Japanese royal famil has better sense! We all know that…Berry Soetoro-loser!
True enough but it still doesn’t answer the question I asked which was, “Why did he even attempt such a presentation given that it wasn’t going to come to Chicago in the first place?” Hell bells, if they didn’t know THIS, then we are in trouble and if they did know THIS, then they are fools of the first order. Either way, we’re in for a really bumpy ride with Mr. Neophyte and the Lady Curmudgeon.
And I honestly don’t care a tinker’s cuss what the other countries did–that smacks of the common practice fallacy and besides, that’s their cross to bear.
LDW, the issue is not Chicago vs Rio, it is Chicago vs Rio, vs Madrid, vs Tokyo. Chicago came in LAST.
The final round was not Rio vs Chicago, it was Rio vs Madrid.
LOL! I love that cartoon. Priceless.
I saw high fashion model last year with a giant fried egg sewn to her dress and burst out laughing. But hey, those designers try to predict what the high and mighty will be wearing in the coming season, so I think they nailed it. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if the first lady started modeling the fried egg dress.

This from a Chicago sports columnist you may recognize from Sports Illustrated.
Top 10 Reasons Chicago Didn’t Get the Olympics per The National Review:
10. Dead people can’t vote at IOC meetings
9. Obama distracted by 25 min meeting with Gen. McChrystal
8. Who cares if Obama couldn’t talk the IOC into Chicago? He’ll be able to talk Iran out of nukes.
7. The impediment is Israel still building settlements.
6. Obviously no president would have been able to acomplish it.
5. We’ve been quite clear and said all along that we didn’t want the Olympics.
4. This isn’t about the number of Olympics “lost”, it’s about the number of Olympics “saved” or “created”.
3. Clearly not enough wise Latina judges on the committee
2. Because the IOC is racist.
1. It’s George Bush’s fault.

Before leaving Washington, Mrs. Obama made clear how seriously the first couple took the matter, saying “the gloves are off” and they would “take no prisoners.”
That’s your Chicago-style First Lady.
Can you imgine Laura Bush, or for that matter, any other First Lady, speaking that way ~ “the gloves are off” ?
The New York Slimes published this?!!! Wow!
He thinks he played a great game?
The worst or the best part of flying back was watching it on CNN. LOL!!

Great toon, Pat. And comments.
Obama and team clearly didn’t do their homework or they wouldn’t have even applied to bring the summer Olympics to Chicago. They should have realized that the Olympic committee reads and sees the news and are aware that crime-ridden Chicago is not a suitable site for the Olympics.
Unfortunately, the egg on their faces no doubt spills over to spell disrespect for our country. Seems Obama is good at taking on losing projects. This likely includes dealing with Iran and Afghanistan. And probably health care reform.
“Yes We Can” is fast becoming “No We Can’t”.
Love that cartoon, Pat!
The Obama’s outfitted for Halloween in Copenhagen.

Pat,
This is perhaps my favorite now of all your cartoons. Please publish a book!
Thank You Diana L C. I wish there was a way to print the illustrations on paper so that they looked liked they do on a bright monitor screen.
Diana L C know a publisher? Go for it Pat. You and Donna should collaberate. LOL.
