I’d have to vote for #1: I feel pretty!

Comment by felizarte | 2009-10-06 00:11:02

I Feel Pretty was also used with John Edwards and combing his hair. Obama and Edwards do belong together.

Then I’ll get on my knees and pray

Of the three suggestions, “You’re So Vain” describes it for me and since I adore Carly Simon! Has Carly ever revealed who that song was written about? It has been a well guarded secret.

But this is the song that I want to be 0’s ASAP!:

I don’t know if she ever directly confirmed it, hinted around the edges that it was true without specifically confirming it or if she has flat out denied it, but I heard the song is about Warren Beatty.

Also rumored to be about Mick Jagger.

Comment by Docelder | 2009-10-05 23:06:18

This one comes up for some reason on the sidebar of the land of hope and glory. The New American Anthem. He might just fancy this one as well. Kind of twisted, so it fits strangely enough. Strange days these are.

I think Debbie Boone’s ‘you light up my life’ is appropriate because it has the word “hope” in it.

However, I think when he looks in the mirror, he practices Shaggy’s “It wasn’t me”.

Rev Wright: You sat in that church for how long? It wasn’t me.

Didn’t you start your career in Bill Ayers house? It wasn’t me.

You hired all those tax cheats? It wasn’t me.

You let a self proclaimed commie in the WH as a Czar? It wasn’t me.

Comment by Ship out Obama | 2009-10-06 01:39:34

Had McCain jumped on the opportunity and made an ad playing the song “How Long Has This Been Going On?” while showing Obama sitting in his church applauding Wright during his rants it may have been enough to finish off Obama.

Comment by ImaLlindatoo | 2009-10-05 23:16:14

On your list, “You’re so Vain”

Or,a new song

I’m A Loser
(Lennon/McCartney)

I’m a loser
I’m a loser
And I’m not what I appear to be

Of all the love I have won or have lost
There is one love I should never have crossed
She was a girl in a million, my friend
I should have known she would win in the end

I’m a loser
And I lost someone who’s near to me
I’m a loser
And I’m not what I appear to be

Although I laugh and I act like a clown
Beneath this mask I am wearing a frown
My tears are falling like rain from the sky
Is it for her or myself that I cry

I’m a loser
And I lost someone who’s near to me
I’m a loser
And I’m not what I appear to be

What have I done to deserve such a fate
I realize I have left it too late
And so it’s true, pride comes before a fall
I’m telling you so that you won’t lose all

I’m a loser
And I lost someone who’s near to me
I’m a loser
And I’m not what I appear to be

Appropriately from “Chicago”

Razzle Dazzle

Give ‘em the old razzle dazzle
Razzle dazzle ‘em
Give ‘em an act with lots of flash in it
And the reaction will be passionate
Give ‘em the old hocus pocus
Bread and feather ‘em
How can they see with sequins in their eyes?
Long as you keep ‘em way off balance
How can they spot you got no talents?
Razzle dazzle ‘em
And they’ll never catch wise!

Give ‘em the old razzle dazzle
Razzle dazzle ‘em
Back since the days of old Methuselah
Everyone loves the big bambooz-a-ler

Give ‘em the old
Double whammy
When you’re in trouble, go into your dance
Though you are stiffer than a girder
They let ya get away with a murder
Razzle dazzle ‘em
Razzle dazzle ‘em
Razzle dazzle ‘em
And you’ve got a romance

George Strait sings a spanish song called “El Rey”.
Meaning the King. The lyrics go something like this..

“I have no throne nor queen/Nor anyone who understands me/But I continue being king.”

Showing my age here – but how about “I believe in you” from the movie “How to succeed in business without really trying”. Robert Morse was fantastic (and he sings it to his face in the mirror of the mens’ restroom!)

Comment by jwrjr | 2009-10-05 23:36:01

Of the three, I vote for #1. For Ozero to pick “You Light Up My Life” it would have to be re-titled “I Light Up My Life”.

I used You’re so Vain on my blog last night to make a point about Barry….an anonymous poster rewrote the lyrics…which i love:

Well you flew Our Big Jet up to Copenhagen, you ran fourth to the Rising Sun

Then you met with some General just to prove who is boss and shanked him on Air Force One

Well you’re never where you should be and when you’re not you’re with some corrupted pol or you’re playing some b-ball, playing some b-ball, cause,

You’re so vain, I bet you think this rhyme is about you, you’re so vain,
The planets must revolve around you, don’t they, don’t they!!!!

Comment by FranSC | 2009-10-06 02:33:27

John, I would love to hear those lyrics sung to the ‘You’re So Vain’ music. Fred Landau does parody lyrics and vocal – maybe you should send those lyrics to him. Landau did this great one about Gov Sanford:

“Big Time” Peter Gabriel.

Although, the bass lines are WAY out of BO’s league.

My parties all have big names
And I greet them with the widest smile
Tell them how my life is one big adventure^
And always theyre amazed
When I show them round my house, to my bed
I had it made like a mountain range
With a snow-white pillow for my big fat head
And my heaven will be a big heaven
And I will walk through the front door

(I skipped some lines to shorten the post)

Look in my eyes, what do you see?
the Cult of Personality
I know your anger, I know your dreams
I’ve been everything you wanna be ohhh…
I’m the Cult of Personality

Like Mussolini and Kennedy
I’m the Cult of Personality

I’m the Cult of Personality

I exploit you; still you love me
I tell you one and one makes three ohh…
I’m the Cult of Personality

Like Joseph Stalin and Gandhi ohh…
I’m the Cult of Personality

I have to say that it would be You’re so Vain.

You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye on the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they’d be your partner
They’d be your partner, and…

Yup, all those Obaot chicks (and Chris “tingle up my leg” Matthews) dreaming of being Obama’s girl…perfect.

I like all these suggestions, but I have to go with my generation and be a little serious about this. So, I think about the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil.”

Please allow me to introduce myself
Im a man of wealth and taste
Ive been around for a long, long year
Stole many a mans soul and faith
And I was round when jesus christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around st. petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a generals rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
I shouted out,
Who killed the kennedys?
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
Im a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But whats confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me lucifer
cause Im in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or Ill lay your soul to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
Tell me baby, whats my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, whats my name
I tell you one time, youre to blame

Nah, the spirit of the song is right, but there is no way Obummer is going to get off his ass and do that much work..starting revolutions is work, so is war. Work isn’t something Obummer seems to feel comfortable doing. Say what you will about the devil, the guy works hard for his souls. Obummer, not so much.

Comment by FranSC | 2009-10-07 02:57:04

FLDem, I agree. B0 is allergic to the heavy lifting. His idea of success is to swoop in at the end, steal the credit and take the bows. At least that is what was reported from his IL legislature buds and what I have observed so far.

I’m finishing up reading “Left Behind”, and am convinced Obama is NOT the anti-Christ.

1. Everybody said the anti-Christ came across as modest.

2. The anti-Christ would have gotten the world to give Chicago the Olympics.

My next book is “The Emperor’s New Clothes”.

Mirror in the Bathroom-The English Beat

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTNpaaPHENE

Lyrics:
rror in the bathroom
please talk free
The door is locked
just you and me.
Can I take you to a restaurant
that’s got glass tables
You can watch yourself
while you are eating.
Mirror in the bathroom
I just can’t stop it,
Every Saturday you see me
window shopping.
Find no interest in the
racks and shelves
Just a thousand reflections
of my own sweet self, self, self…
Mirror in the bathroom
You’re my mirror in the bathroom
You’re my mirror in the bathroom
You’re my mirror in the bathroom…
Mirror in the bathroom
recompense
For all my crimes
of self defense.
Cures you whisper
make no sense
Drift gently into
mental illness.

Mirror in the bathroom
please talk free
The door is locked
just you and me.
Can I take you to a restaurant
that’s got glass tables
You can watch yourself
while you are eating.
Mirror in the bathroom
Mirror in the bathroom…

Musetta’s Waltz, from La Boheme:

When I walk alone in the street
People stop and stare at me
And everyone looks at my beauty,
Looks at me,
From head to foot…
And then I relish the sly yearning
which escapes from their eyes
and which is able to perceive
my most hidden beauties.
Thus the scent of desire is all around me,
and it makes me happy, makes me happy!
And you who know, who remember and yearn
you shrink from me?
I know it very well:
you do not want to express your anguish,
I know so well that you do not want to express it
but you feel as if you are dying!

Obama’s morning exercise is to wake up, stare in the mirror and sing:

Well, here are a couple of verses from a song called “King of Everything” (by metal band “Anarchy Club”):

I am the king of everything
and I do as I please
I walk on clouds before the crowds
and bring them to their knees
A child of Heaven and of Earth
The one and only son
My staff in hand I rule the land
I’ve only just begun

Bring on your armies and your gods
I’ll kill them one by one
It’s all a game and just the same
I’m only having fun
Behind a water curtain
sitting on my mighty throne
a child of Heaven and of Earth
The great sage born of stone

I am the king of everything
As strong as I am proud
With staff in hand I rule the land
atop a mighty cloud
I am divine, revealed in time
Immortal and eternal
The wrath of God, they all applaud
my fire-eyed inferno

I’m walking on the sky For all to see
I know the secret of eternity
Make all the devils cry and angels sing
Because I am the king of everything

Ahem and amen and mmmm mmm mm:

The Best by Tina Turner
“You come to me, give me everything I need.
Give me a lifetime of promises and a lifetime of dreams.
Speak the language of love like you know what it means.
It can’t be wrong,
Take my heart and make it strong, Babe.
You’re simply the best, better than all the rest,
better than anyone, anyone I ever met,
I’m stuck on you hard, I hang on every word you say.
Tear us apart, Baby, I would rather be dead.
In your heart I see the start of every night and every day; in your eyes I get lost, I get washed away….”

There’s a song from the musical HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING – which fits Obama perfectly even without this song. Please note that the main character – J. Pierpont Finch sang it to himself while looking in a mirror. It’s called “I Believe in You.”

Now there you are.
Yes, there’s that face.
That face that somehow I trust.
It may embrace you, too.
Here me say it.
But say it I must,
Say it I must

You have the cool clear
Eyes of a seeker of wisdom and truth,

Yet, there’s that up turned chin
And the grin of impetuous youth.

Oh, I believe in you,
I believe in you.

I hear the sound of good
Solid judgment whenever you talk.

Yet, there’s the bold, brave spring
Of the tiger that quickens your walk.
(roar, roar!)

Oh, I believe in you,
I believe in you.

And when my faith in my fellow man
Oh but falls apart,
I’ve but to feel your hand grasping mine
And I take heart,
I take heart.

To see the cool clear
Eyes of a seeker of wisdom and truth,

Yet with the slam, bang, tang
Reminiscent of gin and vermouth.

Oh, I believe in you,
I believe in you.

This could be the rest of us:

MALE ENSEMBLE:
Gotta stop that man.
Gotta stop that man.

Or he’ll stop me.

Big will, big beaver
For we won’t live in front of this fever

Gotta stop, gotta stop.
Gotta stop that man.

FINCH:
Oh, I believe in you…

COMPANY:
Don’t let it be such a hero

FINCH:
(ha, ha, ha)
You…
(ha, ha, ha)
You…
You!

COMPANY:
Gotta stop that man!
Gotta stop him!
Stop that man!
Gotta stop him!
Gotta stop that man!

You’ve got the cool clear eyes of a seeker of wisdom and truth.
And there’s that upturned chin and that grin of impeccable youth.
Oh, I believe in you. I believe in you.

The perfect song for Obama is “You’re So Vain”. It is great because the name of the song describes him along with the lyrics.

It’s also perfect because across the generations, people “know” the song.

Many of the songs suggested are not familiar to all of us.

Only Obama could surpass Manilow’s love for himself.

Rats, sorry I missed the contest!
My entry would be an old “doo-wop” song:

You’ve Got Personality

Cause you’ve got person-ality, person-ality
Personality, walk, personality
Personality, talk, personality
Plus you’ve got a great, big smile
So over and over, I’ll be a fool for you
So over and over, what more can I do?

Obama’s view of himself? First person, here and now, I vote for the old Sam & Dave song, I Can’t Stand Up for Falling Down.

Simple though love is, still it confused me
Why I’m not loved the way I should be.

The perfect music to describe Obama? I’m surprised that nobody has suggested:

The Imperial March (Star Wars, etc.)

Obama’s view on himself??? “You Are So Beautiful” -You are so beautiful to me
You are so beautiful to me
Can’t you see
Your everything I hoped for
Your everything I need
You are so beautiful to me

Such joy and happiness you bring
Such joy and happiness you bring
Like a dream
A guiding light that shines in the night
Heavens gift to me
You are so beautiful to me

My song to Obama?
“A Farewell To Kings” by Rush

When they turn the pages of history
When these days have passed long ago
Will they read of us with sadness
For the seeds that we let grow?
We turned our gaze
From the castles in the distance
Eyes cast down
On the path of least resistance

Cities full of hatred, fear and lies
Withered hearts and cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude and
Scoffing at the wise

The hypocrites are slandering
The sacred Halls of Truth
Ancient nobles showering
Their bitterness on youth
Can’t we find the minds that made us strong?
Can’t we learn to feel what’s right
And what’s wrong?
What’s wrong?

Cities full of hatred, fear and lies
Withered hearts and cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude and
Scoffing at the wise
Can’t we raise our eyes and make a start?
Can’t we find the minds to lead us
Closer to the heart?
