CONGRATULATIONS, TOTUS!

(Bumped up from Friday afternoon.)
You too Favreau! Oh, the Absurdity of it all.
For winning the Nobel peace prize with your cliches and words, just words.
They have given the Nobel peace prize to a man who could not turn around poverty or violence in his own district or the city for however long he was the state senator. What you see in this video is Obama’s grand accomplishment to date (HT Flineo’s Video).
They have given the Nobel peace prize to a man who was forced to enact his anti-war speech on a make believe set during his campaign because nobody had heard it the first time he gave it — (there is no record of that speech other than one or two eye witness accounts). He did not lead anti-war marches and was a nobody until his campaign decided that the anti-war stance would sell well against Hillary in the Democratic primary. He did not even stop funding for it once he got to the US Senate. He did not conduct hearings while in the US senate on how best to act in Afghanistan in spite of chairing the committee on NATO and Afghanistan.
He did not convince the Palestinians to come to the table even after his overt and in some people’s view, lopsided support of those people. He did not convince Muslim extremists to give up their terrorism in spite of his overt plea to them and their sympathizers (Taliban are as destructive as ever and Al Queda are lying in wait). He did not convince the North Koreans to stop their missile launches nor the Iranians to give up their nuke dream.
What he has done though is to continue many of the Bush/Cheney war time policies. As far as I recall the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have not been turned into peace missions nor have there been talks of nation building to help those war ravaged populations. We don’t really know what he will do with the two wars he is presiding over.
A war time commander-in-chief getting the Nobel peace prize! There in lies the profound incongruence and the absurdity of this award. Is this all a joke?
But he gave speeches and lectures to everyone and everywhere.
He was nominated for this award less than two weeks after he was inaugurated (the deadline was February 1, 2009) when the only concrete thing he had to show for was his performance as a state senator and you see the results of it in Flineo’s video above the fold. I am discounting getting elected as US senator because he does not have anything to show for it. Getting elected as president was no biggie either because he and his cronies stole the nomination during the Democratic primary and a dog with a Democrat label would have got elected in the general election. And what has he accomplished since his inauguration or nomination? No breakthroughs there. Nothing.
Essentially they have given the Nobel peace prize to this man who has done NOTHING.
I am sad and sorry for the tens and hundreds of activists around the world who work hard and crave the attention for their cause (and not for themselves, mind you) to make world a better place. They could certainly have used the money too.
Obama should have turned it down or at least in a grand gesture shared it with other nominees. Maybe we should be satisfied if this does not inflate further his already over-inflated ego.

Below are two of the nominees who got passed over. What’s a little prison time in China vs. marketing words of Barack. Fighting for human rights? That’s such a downer.
“Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for ‘inciting subversion of state power.’”
“Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China’s communist system.
You can see the full list here:

“War is peace” has just become a reality.
We can only hope it will inflate until it explodes…
Great post! The Nobel already was absurd but today was the nail in the coffin. Check out reactions from Joe, Mika & Cramer last year when Krugman won it for economics: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelstein/2008/10/13/krugman-nobel-cause-morning-joe-mirth (And you should have seen what actual economists said!)
Here’s something funny–check out the first comment from that story last year:
Nobel = absurdity
Wow, that comment is pretty good. I have to agree that it is a major FU to Bush and co. One could argue it is a major FU to Obama too — it is a dare. Show us what you are made of.
and an FU to Bill & Hillary – who have thus far been silent
What the hell do you expect them to say? Your anger should be directed at the voters who elected this do-nothing, and to the people who voted for this idiot to get the Nobel Peace Prize.
I hope people will remember this . why do some want to attack and blame the Clintons for anything that goes wrong while ignoring their good works.just look at what Hillary has been doing ,latest being with Turkey and Armenia, her work in africa and other dangerous countries for womens and childrens rights.
there is a long list for SOS CLINTON and Pres.Clinton ,even CNN mentioned his world wide works for people all over the world fighting disease, poverty and economic issues .WHAT is wrong with these people. Yet OB gets an award for thinking and giving unproductive speeches.
It pisses me off to no end!! There are other also that would deserve the award . the thing is they must really envy President Clinton and SOS Clinton for what they accomplish, so they will not acknowledge anything they do.
Obama was nominate for the Nobel Peace Prize just 11 days after he took office. Something’s rotten in Oslo.
Where is Dave D now? I want his crystal ball.
Great post, even if it makes me want to spit nails.
Flineo is a genius–wish he would make lots more videos.
Thanks pm 317 for cleverly fitting these strands of yarn together, even if the result is an ugly knot!
Agreed – thanks for putting this together! it really shows how ridiculous this is. It is so good, i am going to read it again. :O)
Yes, I miss Flineo’s videos….
Ijust had to share this from the Repuplican Party of Texas:
President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for, in the words of the Nobel Commitee, intending to promote nuclear disarmament and world peace. In announcing the award, the Committee acknowledged that he hasn’t actually achieved anything on either of these subjects. Or much of anything else.
The Nobel Committee gave the president its most prestigious award for what he wants to do, not what he’s done. That made us wonder, what other prestigious award will the president win next? Surely the Nobel is only the first of many accolades.
He loves NCAA basketall. Perhaps he’ll be awarded a national championship. Or maybe the NBA will name him this year’s MVP. He drives a car. Perhaps Motor Trend will name him Car of the Year.
He has actually written two books. Perhaps a Pulizter, or a Nobel for literature, will come his way.
The president is known to like pie. Perhaps he’ll win a blue ribbon at the Illinois State Fair.
He did host the “beer summit.” Perhaps he’ll be named a Real Man of Genius.
Surely a Cy Young, a Heisman, a Vince Lombardi trophy, and the America’s Cup will take their places on the president’s mantle soon. And his Tour de France shirt and US Open blazer must be in the mail by now.
He could be awarded the NASCAR Sprint Cup, because no one turns left like President Obama….
pm317, perfect. I had forgotten about that re-enacted speech. (Do you suppose the Nobel Committee thought, this retroactive display was for real?)
Actually ‘Obama’s Forgotten People’ video needs to be UPDATED – you know, the beating injuries/death of those school kids in Chicago these past TWO weeks.
Yes, Obama won the “Peace” prize, yet he hails – and is/WAS responsible from the distrist that is the most violent (not including poverty-stricken) in the nation. How’s that for ‘irony’?
I would like to remind everyone of a quote, made by someone very close to Obama-”He ain’t done anything yet!” Thank you Michelle Obama. This is as ridiculous as it can get. (I hope)
I like this quote by Gibbs upon being awakened by a reporter with the news of the Nobel Peace Prize. IS THIS AN APRIL FOOL JOKE?
[My post has gone to the spam black hole ... please rescue it.]
AIG.
LOL
Wufff!
No pigs ears for you BO.
This award reminds me so much of the primaries in that whenever BO lost a state to HRC he would trot out a big endorsement to change the narrative. In this case, the Nobel Prize appears to be operating in the same way with regard to BO’s humiliating smack down by the IOC last week.
Prizes for being the biggest screwup — YES WE CAN.
So much hate! Pop!
PM317, You can’t say any better than you did. Thanks
Crazy world.
I get a chuckle out of the sequence of frames (events) that happen with this comic strip call BO.
What if President Obama did give the money and award to the other runner-ups? (I followed the link of “barry bums a ciggie”. Thanks)
It seems that the runner-ups come from parts of the world where only a portion of the prize money would go a long way. More importantly Obama could draw the eyes of the world to these courageous people who have put their lives on the line for human rights. It’s a win-win situation for everyone concerned. Obama looks magnanimous and these very deserving people get needed recognition for what they have done and are doing.

.
Hey BO, hellloooo?
Oslo BO and Miss Congeniality may need Rangel’s accountant to handle that prize money!
It’s rich that they are supposed to “redistribute the wealth”!
pm317,
I remember the video from the primaries. I couldn’t understand how no one seemed to want to know anything about the lack of credentials of this man they were so enamored with then. Now, after this Nobel prize, I am totally convinced I am having a really, really, really long nightmare.
why this unceasing negativity about anything related to President Obama? Don’t you see that this is not constructive at all?
Au contraire!
This exercise in extreme irony is most cathartic. Those of us who saw early on that BO had no resume are now able to revel in the world’s awakening to his failure to measure up to any kind of accomplishment at all. The thrill of it is dazzling!
Thanks to bettyann over at TOTUS.com…I couldn’t resist.
Let’s take a look at the president’s first 12 days in the White House according to his public schedule to see what he did to deserve a Nobel Peace Prize:
January 20: Sworn in as president. Went to a parade. Partied.
January 21: Asked bureaucrats to re-write guidelines for information requests. Held an “open house” party at the White House.
January 22: Signed Executive Orders: Executive Branch workers to take ethics pledge; re-affirmed Army Field Manual techniques for interrogations; expressed desire to close Gitmo (how’s that working out?)
January 23: Ordered the release of federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries. Lunch with Joe Biden; met with Tim Geithner.
January 24: Budget meeting with economic team.
January 25: Skipped church.
January 26: Gave speech about jobs and energy. Met with Hillary Clinton. Attended Geithner’s swearing in ceremony.
January 27: Met with Republicans. Spoke at a clock tower in Ohio.
January 28: Economic meetings in the morning, met with Defense secretary in the afternoon.
January 29: Signed Ledbetter Bill overturning Supreme Court decision on lawsuits over wages. Party in the State Room. Met with Biden.
January 30: Met economic advisers. Gave speech on Middle Class Working Families Task Force. Met with senior enlisted military officials.
January 31: Took the day off.
February 1: Skipped church. Threw a Super Bowl party.
So there you have it. The short path to the Nobel Peace Prize: Party, go to meetings, skip church, release federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries, party some more.
Come on now, you can’t slight him from skipping church. It must be exceedingly difficult to find the kind of racist, hate filled, Marxist, and venomous congregation that he and Michelle had grown accustomed to for over 20 years. That particular brand of evil focal point must be hard to locate. Cut him some slack!
I created a video during the primaries.
I had hoped to warm voters of what Obama did while in the state senate in Chicago.

“why this unceasing negativity about anything related to President Obama? Don’t you see that this is not constructive at all?”
It will be constructive if the country gets rid of him in 2012.
But to quote Stevie Wonder, “tell me something good.” Tell us what Obama’s done besides ‘altering the mood’ of the Obot universe.
Well, he did unify the world for at least one day. It was true global harmony. Everyone on the planet was thinking the same thought yesterday. ‘For What?’
I admit I’m not privy to much pro-Obama media because the stench of horseshit and flagrant bias is unbearable. The only positive stuff I read about Obama is on Pat Buchanan’s blog. Also, Larry sometimes give Obama credit. Pat’s an intellectually honest conservative. I don’t share Pat’s views on Israel and Afghanistan, so what good Pat sees in Obama I see as ‘feh.’
