Why Is the White House Targeting Fox News?
By Bronwyn's Harbor on October 14, 2009 at 11:55 PM in Current Affairs
(bumped up from this morning)
You may have heard recently that the White House has been targeting Fox News. No doubt, in their minds, they have their reasons for it. Why that might be is a mystery to me and, critically, I find it utterly antithetical to the Constitution that protects the Fourth Estate.
One analyst I heard thinks that the White House knows that FNC (Fox News Channel) has a core constituency of viewers who will always watch FNC. But, the analyst says, the White House is worried about the large number of Independent and Democratic voters who also enjoy watching FNC. (We can count most of the NQ writers in that group; two years ago, we avoided FNC, and then we saw that FNC was the ONLY network that treated Hillary Clinton with respect.) The analyst claims that the White House’s attacks on FNC are designed to make both Independents and Democrats feel uncomfortable about watching a news channel that it claims is wholly biased.
Another analyst noted, with some shock, that the WH attacks are on the hard news reporting, not just the Glenn Beck, Hannity and other opinion-oriented shows. That is entirely unfair. Reporters like Jim Angle and Carl Cameron deliver in-depth reports on the news unlike few others in the news business.
Bret Baier pointed out that every single request by all Fox News programs to interview President Obama has been rejected. Why is unclear to me. I recall Obama’s interview by Bill O’Reilly during the campaign; O’Reilly was firm but gentlemanly. Obama cannot claim that he’s had bad experiences on the network, so why is he afraid to face FNC interviewers now?
Here are two excellent FNC videos that discuss the attempts to marginalize and stigmatize the network — I particularly recommend the second video featuring a SANE Democrat who thinks the White House’s attacks are “disturbing”:
When Washington Attacks (featuring Glenn Beck and guest Pat Caddell, one of the more sane, and extremely knowledgeable, Democratic analysts)
Bottom line, perhaps the White House doesn’t appreciate that there is one news outlet that does NOT portray President Obama in constantly rosy, glowing terms at all times? Or that they are actually looking into the cost of the Obama policies? What do you think their reasons are?

An American would never seek to control the press and the flow of information. But George Soros is not an American.
For Obama to succeed the delivery of controlled information (including slanted viewpoints, half truths, and outright lies)is imperative. This healthcare debate was not intended to be a debate until those town hall meetings over the summer exposed the giant holes in Obamacare as well as the deceptions being perpetrated by the White House.
They never wanted a debate, but now that they have one they must control the debate rather than seek the truth or some compromise that is acceptable by a majority of Americans.
This is all about converting this country into a European socialist country and part of one world which has been the vision of George Soros.
FoxNews is in the way of that vision.
“This is all about converting this country into a European socialist country and part of one world which has been the vision of George Soros.
FoxNews is in the way of that vision.”
I agree about the converting of this country, but it is less about FoxNews and more about the growing bands of Americans (Tea Party Patriots, Town Hallers, etc.) who are standing up and speaking out. Even if you silence Fox, these groups will continue to grow. You cannot put that genie back into the bottle. This whole effort by the White House is an attack on the First Amendment with the goal of dismanteling and destroying the Constitution, repealing key Amendments and selling this country out.
You are right, but FoxNews was initially the only network that gave the Tea Party and Town Halls coverage. had it not been for Fox News I am not sure people would have been informed and people like Van Jones and organizations like ACORN would still be in full power.
I agree! Our Constitution does not apply to this current adminstration and I fear it will become too late to recover when they accomplish any part of their plans that seemingly keep on taking place for them.
You bet they are afraid of The Fox Nation. It’s self explanatroy why.
You young(er) one’s have take over for we the elderly; we need you desperately like you may need your youth’s some day if we still have an America not an “Amerika.”
Didn’t Obama run from more debates with Hillary during the campagin? Obviously, he is frightened of making the mistakes he continues to make when he is without a teleprompter. He feared he would have been shown to have been unqualified and ill equipped for the job. And so he is.
If people across the country don’t see by now that this man (whom I think is nothing more than a front man for a very dangerous group bent on destroying democracy) is in over his head, with his procrastinating (I’ll make a decision on Afghanistan in a ‘few weeks’…while Americans die daily, in the meantime), his inability to make and stick to a decision, they are willfully deciding not to see. Their self-interests must be greater than the good of the country.
Pitiful, pitiful, pitiful.
May FOX get stronger, larger and louder!
He was the only candidate to run from debates, after bombastically exclaiming “Bring it on!”
Hillary never ran, McCain never ran.
Out of three candidates, we ended up with the only coward in the bunch.
the only coward in the bunch.
look who brung ‘em. True that.
Isn’t it time to kick non-Americans out of our political decision making processes? Might be a good idea to restrict their ability to own companies here, as well, and if not that, certainly to oversee their business decisions as they relate to our government.
What did we fight for during the Revolution, if not to be able to rule ourselves without European interference?
It is hard to see a American President winning about a news organization (FOX) why is one of the most powerful men in the world afraid of FOX news? What does that say? How does that look? Obama has never liked being challenged and if Chris Wallace or Neil Cavuto were to sit down with Obama he would be exposed.

CHRIS WALLACE – CRY BABIES
Politely, you all have it wrong. The tactic is not to put Fox to shame, but to put liberal critics of Obama to shame by making their criticism seem equal to the rabidly hated Fox. This is not the first time it happened. It goes back to winning the primary then changing positions that made liberals angry, then also Obama used the implied “you’re just like Fox”.
Watch again when another upswell of liberal criticism or doubts about Obama comes again, like last week. The “Fox News” ruse will come out again, even though this present attack is not working as well in the past. Although I believe Obama jumped the shark during his primaries, his hard-core believers needed the Nobel Prize to realize the Enigma of Chicago.
I agree with your astute observation. I think that only part of it is about putting FOX to shame. Mostly it’s all about using the duality to drive behavior. If some liberals can be lumped in with Fox, then maybe they’ll behave, or at least be shamed into shutting up. Obama has nothing to lose with people who are already inclined to dislike him. It’s the ones who should like him that don’t that are the problem. It’s another version of GWB’s if you’re not with us, then you’re against us mentality. How little some things change.
I think it’s about something much deeper. It’s not that those inclined to dislike him will lose him nothing. Instead, this group is becoming a catalyst for further investigation into who he is, what his ideologies are, and in the process, they are exposing Obama’s considerable negatives in ways that have little to do with Republican or Democrat, and exposing it across every corner of this country. It is about preserving and safeguarding democracy.
So now they have two cards:
1 – the race card
2 – the Fox card
Whip the card out to squelch any discussion or dissent.
MSM has to be destroyed and reformed. They are not doing their job??? Where have all of the truly great honest investigative reporters gone??? Corporate controlled MSM! Collecting their fat big pay warrents! Trying to look cool and hip! Blow-drying their hair and getting airbrushed… Sad situation.
MSM needs to be reformed and the large corporations kicked out of the news-making business. Perhaps making media companies non-profit would make them honest and truly investigative? Today’s lazy media stars are a joke and have lost all credibility.
Steve, making anything non-profit will ensure it becomes unmotivated and lazy. The problem with MSM isn’t the profit motive, but the industry is an oligopoly.
BS. What makes people unmotivated an lazy are politicians like your bot-in-chief that promises everyone everything. You certainly bought into it, which only serves to demonstrate my point.
Freedumb:
Like NPR?
Damn man stop the stupid fest!
Care to make another prediction FF?
“making anything non-profit will ensure it becomes unmotivated and lazy”.
Like the government we have now with BO.
Changing your tax code doesnt make you honest. Really.
Well, my personal opinion is that O administration is made up mostly of people who are all vampires who might crumble into dust if they have to face the light of day.
Of course I was being facetious.
Trying to lighten the discussion a little. The point is that narcissists can’t take criticism of any kind. They really do strike back when they aren’t being treated as if they were perfect.
I know the feeling, were I going to be facetious I would have made the nephilim though. Because they walk around in the sun just fine… inherently evil as they are.
Reporters like Jim Angle and Carl Cameron? Hard news? Angle is pretty good I do admit, Cameron? Please that man’s favorite song is “I love Me” and is as partisan as they get, he is just not as obvious as the rest. Though not as bad as Jim Rosen who who really has a ego problem. Bret Baier is holding his own so far and has not lost his objectivity yet, but the day’s of Brit Hume are over and now the brakes are off.. As far as I am concerned both MSNBC and FNC are a waste of time.
John Moody is still a problem at News Corp his editorial skills SUCK!
Dems need a distraction right about now. Nothing is going well for Obama. Even his “winning” the Nobel peace prize brought him intense criticism. 9 months into his term and he has literally done nothing. The economy is no better and unemployment at an all time high. So the stragey is to bring people together around a common enemy. Fox News is now the scapegoat (in Germany it was the Jews). All democrats can now unite against the awful Fox News. And when they unite, perhaps they will all unite to buy into Obama’s nefaroius health care plan, the one that has yet to be written but which he wants to pass by Friday at 1:00 P.M. If it doesn’t, the world may come to an end…
This is STAGED! Do not fall for it .. FOX is also owned by Bilderberg Group member and world order enthusiast Rupert Murdoch. FOX was designated to be the “counter” to the other stations to make it appear as if there are two sides. The fact is, the entire US media is controlled from the top down by the Bilderberg group and their recruits placed in power at the top.
The goal here is to passify you, because if you knew there was no opposition, you’d be forced to do something!
Can you supply more facts or links regarding this info???
I think more facts or links would be useful too.
Along these lines, one thing that struck me as curious is this story about Al Sharpton getting involved in a bid by Rush Limbaugh and others to buy an NFL team.
Nothing unusual there, but this is: one of the other men in the investment group is George Soros.
If those two are diametrically opposed, isn’t a bit curious that they are both members of a small investment group? Is there any difference in the agendas of the people at the top?
Yes, Carmen, belly up to the bar with links. I’m willing to entertain you hypothesis (because just about anything is possible these days), but give me substance.
Hi btintaos, here is a wikipedia link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilderberg_Group
To truly understand this situation, you will need to have a minimal knowledge of how fractional reserve banking and central banks work. This is a group of people who control the levers of power and money worldwide.
I know about The Bilderberg Group. I was looking for something akin to proof, rather than allegations.
carmen
you have nailed it.
there are many members and affiliates of this group that are in power today. on both sides of the aisle. it’s about thesis / anti- thesis and being in a position of power to manipulate the desired outcome. olbermann, maddow and company are thrown into the ring with glenn beck, bill o’reilly and co.. the other stations are lined up behind both in some way since they are all owned by the same ilk.
and the populace is manipulated by fear, anger, misinformation and half truths….watch what happens next. and then again next, ad infinitum…if chess is your game, and if it wasn’t so nefarious a chessboard, one might be amused.
carry on good people.
I am most impressed by Fox’s refusal to fall victim to the left-wing race-baiting.
They continue to deal with the issues in the same manner as with preceding presidents.
Secondly, conservative women have a real voice on Fox. That is a very effective draw for independent thinkers!
Remember when he told the repubs to stop listening to Rush L? Who does he think he is?
Although it seems very difficult for a woman with dark hair to get a job in front of the Fox cameras! I like most of the Fox women, but it cracks me up that minority blondes are the vast majority on Fox.
I would think you’ld be glad that it helps to dispel the dumb blonde stereotype. There’s no pleasing some people, maybe they should dye thier hair black; would that make them more credible? Perhaps Fox has all the blondes because all of the other networks either never hired them, or let them go because THEY were guilty of stereotyping. Their loss is Fox’s gain.
Also, do you think it might be possible that the blond women on Fox had to have worked much harder as proffesionals BECAUSE they’ve been trying to overcome the dumb blonde bias?
I’d say that’s more than likely correct. With all the dumb blonde jokes around, they must have to work overtime to dispel that myth with everyone they come into contact with. It’s the same as the South being populated only by racists and hicks and San Francisco by gays. It’s all part of the same set of diversionary tactics used by those of any persuasion who haven’t a clue to change the subject.
I agree 100% with samb if you don’t praise him you are a racist and Chris Wallace is right on he is such a cry baby and doesn’t become the president of the US.
I agree 100% with samb if you don’t praise him you are a racist and Chris Wallace is right on he is such a cry baby and it doesn’t become the president of the US.
The White House targets Fox because it isn’t a Goat F…… Network like CNN and MSNBC.
Obama shows he’s a rank Hustler and lying narcissist that allows his ego to over step and break law and any promise he ever made to try to further himself.
Pat Caddell is a mensch. BTW, Rupert Murdoch expressed interest in NBC. Now that would make White House heads spin, let alone Keith Overbite.
But it may give the White House ammo saying that the organization has become a monopoly and therefore needs to be censored. Maybe it’s a trap and just a way to bail out both NBC and GE while not really losing NBC as a state mouthpiece. At the same time, maybe forcing Fox to be a mouthpiece for the state. One thing is for certain, this administration doesn’t hold it’s cards above the table.
Earth to the 0zer0 WH: First of all, you won’t take down Fox news. #2, if you should, we still won’t watch your toadies. #3, even if we have to get our news solely on the interenet, we won’t get it from your toadies. #4 Even if we have to get it on a short-wave radio in our closets like the European resistance in WWII, we will defeat any attempt to shut down the press. 2010 can’t come soon enough.
internet…you know what I mean. I’m calm but my fingers get out of control when I read this Dim crap.
I, for one am just as happy that obumo wont appear on fox. im sick of seeing his face 24/7 (which always has an expression like he’s smelling a fart but since he always looks like that, it must be from himself). i watch fox just to get away from him. can anyone imagine if he continues bloviating on tv 24/7 for the next 3 years, how disgusted eveyone will be when he starts campaigning for 2012? (or is he already doing that?)
I don’t watch any cable news. I had to scale back and cut the fat..and that included cable. I get most of my news on radio and here on NQ.
Something terrible is happening. Obama isn’t Hitler, but something is amiss. This must have been what Germans felt during the early 30’s. There is a change and it’s not good.
The disturbing changes I’ve noticed are increasing levels of anger, extremism, and acting out on the right. Since Obama’s election, democrats in general have actually moved a bit toward the middle.
Consider the possibility that you may be worrying about the wrong people.
Since no one can go after FOX for deliberately distorting reality, maybe somebody should look into the parent corporation’s dodgy tax practices.
The parent corporation is Rupert Murdoch’s holding company, Newscorp Investments. During the four years ending with June 1999, by making use of offshore tax shelters, Newscorp managed to pay corporate taxes of only 6% on profits totaling $5.4 billion.
Here’s a different comparison point: Disney–another multinational–paid taxes of 31% on its total profits for the same period.

I thought the Sedition Act of 14 Jul 1798 was outlawed. Wasn’t it because of the arrest of Benjamin Franklin’s grandson, Benjamin Bache, editor of the Philadelphia Democrat-Republican that the public became outraged against all parts of the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798?
Wasn’t it because of these acts that a Republican (Thomas Jefferson) was then elected President?
Is BO and his administration resurrecting their form of the Sedition Act?
Just saying….
The first Republican President was Lincoln, not Jefferson.
It’s certainly a “poor political move” on the part of the White House to attack Fox Cable News. You don’t make a martyr out of your enemy particularly when they command a significant portion of the audience that watches cable news programs. The White House’s arrogance is only exceeded by their stupidity. Does the White House really think people like myself are going to turn off FNC because the White House doesn’t like it.
This is what happens when you have a bunch of thin-skinned newbies who feel they’re entitled to a 100% love fest from the MSM. As for the Constitution protecting the rights of the Fourth Estate? The Constitution might as well roll it’s corners in because the Fourth Estate for all practical purposes is DOA.
Attack Fox News? Like a bunch of petulant children. If anything Fox News serves as a counterbalance to the nonsense of the Far Left on most venues. But still the Far Left moans and groans, gnashes its teeth over Beck, O’Reilly and Hannity.
But hello? How about Olbermann, Maddow and Matthews [Mr. tringle up my leg]?
Please, this is a non-winning argument. So-called “Liberals” should be ashamed of themselves. The only reason they’re ticked is that Fox News and Right Wing radio is getting huge ratings.
And hint, hint: it’s not just Republicans tuning in. Check out the Independent numbers
Pretty alarming for anyone with the same old, same old progressive/regressive message.
Btw, most folks take exception to leaning on Free Speech and Freedom of the Press guarantees.
This is not a winning position!
As a lifetime Dem myself, I find this whole approach ridiculous.
It is has been very hip and trendy to be down on Fox News among the urban left (I used to be very suspicious of it myself).
If you actually watch the news shows objectively you can’t cast Fox News as the spawn of Satan like many uber-leftists do.
What I can’t figure out is if the White House is really filled with a bunch of silly young leftists who actually buy into the anti-Fox propaganda…and that’s why they are responding in this manner…or if this is some calculation on the part of Axelrod to keep the liberal/progressive base whipped up.
Considering the WH just insulted a lot of leftist bloggers with their latest comments, it doesn’t seem to make much sense. I can’t tell if the WH is just arrogant, naive, incompetent, scheming or all of the above.
The attack on Fox News is unbelievable. This administration has 95% of the media in its back pocket, but they can’t tolerate one bit of dissent. Their Chicago mob tactics are WORSE than Nixonian. Look at how many times Obama has personally mentioned Fox, Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity.
They are going after the First Amendment in many ways. Obama has appointed an FCC czar who applauds Hugo Chavez’s control of the media in Venezuela, and has openly discussed his plan to go after talk radio using diversity and localization rules.
We should be thankful for Fox. Without them, talk radio, and the internet, most Americans would be unaware of so many stories (like Acorn) and much of what is going in this country right now.
Perhaps, going forward, it should be illegal to have anyone under 40 serve anywhere near the White House. The idea of Jon Favreau, in his 20’s in charge of crafting Obama’s speeches is pretty horrifying. Shouldn’t we at least have someone with some experience on the world’s stage?
Fire that puppy!
It’s especially irritating given the deep disrespect he showed Hillary Clinton in the groping photo.
With Fox’s ratings, it’s political suicide to attack Fox. Attacking Fox is like attacking all the Americans – Dems, Indies, and GOP – that watch Fox.
But what can we expect from this seriously flawed administration?
Very strange….most of the Fox News website is down right now…
OT but this is too funny to pass up…

Pat Caddell has not worked on a national Democratic campaign since 1988 when he worked for, ironically, Joe Biden who crashed and burned over plagiarizing UK Labor leader Neil Kinnock. Anybody who takes Caddell seriously ought to check this out:
http://mediamatters.org/research/200409160005
I will only excerpt the following:
“Caddell’s harsh criticism of Democrats and questionable allegiance to the Democratic Party have been evident for more than a decade. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times on April 5, 1992, Caddell claimed: ‘Democratic corruption is much worse than the Republican corruption,’ and that ‘[i]n 1976, the [Democratic] party was still a good party. It had not become what it is today. … My party [the Democrats] is standing at the verge of following the Whigs into history, of disappearing overnight if they keep this up.’ As Salon.com opinion columnist Michelle Goldberg noted on November 18, 2003, Caddell ‘loathed’ former President Bill Clinton ‘as intensely as [conservative author and columnist] Christopher Hitchens did.’
“During the 2000 presidential election, Wall Street Journal columnist John Fund noted that Caddell supported Green Party candidate Ralph Nader, not former Vice President Al Gore. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Caddell contributed $1,000 to the Nader-LaDuke 2000 campaign. In 2001, Caddell was hired — along with Susan Estrich, another FOX News political analyst and putative Democrat who routinely sides with conservatives — to work on the 2002 California gubernatorial campaign of former Los Angeles mayor Richard Riordan, a Republican opposing Governor Gray Davis (D-CA) [Los Angeles Times, 10/21/01, 10/27/01].”
And, believe me, he hates Hillary just as much. Caddell is about as credible a Democrat spokesman as Zell Miller who at least is not a Fox News whore.
It is all about rallying the base against Fox news.
They can always try to no avail.
He’s such a thin skinned ninny. He was thin skinned when he publicly turned his back to Hillary while Ted Kennedy next to him greeted Hillary after Kennedy publicly endorsed the ninny. What a contrast.
Many guys at the top, be it dictators, kings, emperors, army generals, whatever met their falls by only listening to people who say things they want to hear. Well when this one (pun intended) falls I won’t shed no tear. Ninny.
The more the WH cowards scream about Fox News, the more people will watch. bho the fraud is the Soros/Rockefeller/Islamic extremist puppet. He lets them push him and the USA around and that includes having him and his thugs whine/lie about Fox News.
Don’t know if I got spam-filtered or my comment deemed unacceptable but could someone answer why we should listen to a washed-up so-called Democratic pollster and consultant who hasn’t polled or consulted for any public office-seeker in 20 years, who has done nothing in that time but viciously bash Democratic leaders like the Clintons, Al Gore, John Kerry, as well as Obama? No wonder Fox News loves him, just like Susan Estrich and Dick Morris.
Though this is being portrayed as whining… I think it is really worse than that. The administration needs a boogeyman to
uniteorganize against. It started as Bush, was Limbaugh for a time, it was also Palin. It has been institutions such as banks, doctors, insurance companies, etc. The thing is this administration isn’t about hope at all. It is all about fear. That is the secret that is being hidden behind the whining mantra.Fox succeeded in nailing ACORN, Van the man Jones, Geithner, Rangel, and are hot on the trail of Valerie Jarrett.
The truth hurts when BO and MO are propped up by such subversive characters.
The “oh come let us adore him” media can’t measure up, and Fox’s ratings are soaring!
I am grateful that BO won’t be polluting the atmosphere there, and his supporters can tune out, and go to hell!
I divide my time equally between all the cable news outlets, PBS, and the BBC. IMHO that’s the only way to get any understanding of what’s really going on in the world.
Of all the outlets I watch, I find FOX the most biased. While they’ve got good people who provide objective coverage, FOX as a whole has a very strong anti-Obama, pro-conservative slant.
My main gripe is that they shamelessly deny any such bias. When pressed on the point they respond that their slant is confined to the opinions and commentary of obvious right-wing propagandists such as Hannity, or their resident borderline lunatic Glenn Beck. In reality, much of FOX’s “straight” news coverage is also slanted. Content is carefully selected and stories are subtly worded to get the same biased message across. They’ve got their outright, easily identified propaganda approach, and they’ve also got their nearly-subliminal slow indoctrination approach.
Watch these guys exclusively for long enough, and you may eventually buy into the idea that FOX reality is centerist and baseline, while all other outlets are the leftist MSM. That’s a very self-serving message. It’s great for ratings.
You may also start worrying that anyone not with you is against you and part of the dangerous leftist extremist consipiracy out to ruin the country. If you’re thinking along those lines, please consider this apparent paradox for a moment: Since Obama’s election, the thinking of a majority of democrats has actually shifted toward the middle ground. It’s the right that’s becoming increasingly radicalized, angry, and drifting farther and farther from the center.
So where does that suggest the real danger is?
Interesting article, “Whiner-in-Chief” by John Nichols in the very liberal magazine, The Nation.
Here’s a small sample:
“The willingness to take the hits suggests that a commander-in-chief is not afraid to engage with his critics. It also reminds presidents, who tend to be cloistered, that there are a lot of Americans who get their information from sources that do not buy what the White House press office is selling”

According to the Forbes Rich List, George Soros is now the 28th most wealthy man in the World.
However Soros would not be a multi-billionaire if it were not for the international language Esperanto.
Born in Hungary in 1930 as Gyorgy Schwartz, the family changed its name in 1936 to Soros, which in Esperanto means “to soar.” The deliberate Esperanto name-change was an effort to protect the Jewish family from the rise of fascist rulers and the whole family spoke this language at home.
George Soros used Esperanto to defect to the West in 1946, by attending an Esperanto youth meeting in Ipswich, England.
Esperanto enabled Soros both to defect, and to become a multi-billionaire.

Ah, FOX. You’ve got to love their thoughtful messages!
Glenn Beck just now told his afternoon viewers that the redistribution of wealth is Marxism, and that Obama is a Marxist.
The richest 5% of the U.S. population now own over 95% of the nation’s total wealth. This is a big change since 2004, when the richest 5% owned a mere 60% of the total wealth.
I wonder what Glenn Beck calls that?
Capitalism, dypshytzzzzzzzz(snore)iggy.
Now get out there and make something of yourself. Nothing like relying on your own wits than on your fat azz waiting for those ‘Obama Loves You’ checks that haven’t shown up yet.
You evidently haven’t yet noticed that the central mechanisms that once made free enterprise work so well have been coopted by pirates.
No, troll, the ideas of Mao and others of his ilk have been co-opted by the “progressives”, repackaged as it were, to hide the rotten core. That you buy that sh*t speaks more about your gullibility than anything else.
By pirates, do you mean Obama and Co?
The term pirates leaves it wide open to interpretation as to who is the real enemy.
What we’re supposed to believe, of course, is that the democrats–the dastardly liberals, the leftists–are plotting to take away the wealth of regular, hardworking Americans.
Pardon me, but we’ve been robbed already? The great majority of us are no longer holding all that much wealth. We’re lucky to be holding onto our houses, our jobs, and our health insurance. Where did it all go?
We’re supposed to believe that the democrats–the dastardly liberals, the leftists–are extremists, and a threat to our very democracy.
Has anyone noticed that since the election of Obama, the opinions of democrats in general have actually moved toward the middle ground?
It’s the conservative right that’s becoming increasingly angry and radicalized.
Well, for your information, zippy, I didn’t like Shrub taking money out of my right pocket to redistribute upwards. At the same time, I don’t like That One taking money out of my left pocket to redistribute downwards.
That the Democrats are no better is the point, i.e., they rob the middle class blind, too.
As to the issue of radical–the progressives are that and in addition, really ignorant and dogmatic, too.
Your point?
If you think that America is going to look the other way at what your dear leader is trying to pull, go have another double mocha and kiss the Dems power good-bye. Call it a course correction. A much needed course correction.
My point?
My point is that something was pulled a long time before Obama arrived on the scene. Wealth seems to have “trickled” up until it’s nearly all concentrated at the very top. Societies that become that top-heavy have always been notable for their tendency to suddenly fall over.
I’m of the opinion that a reasonable amount of wealth from the top should be used to increase opportunities for advancement lower down the pyramid. It’s better for the long-term health of the entire system.
This makes me a Marxist?
This makes me a Marxist?
Yes.
The stimulus scam was the biggest rape of the American taxpayer in history – and was pure redistribution of wealth. Pull $787 out of the private sector and use it primarily to grow and empower government.
Nationalizing Chrysler and GM was redistributive as well. In each case the senior private sector investors, who are supposed to be paid first, were kicked to the bottom and the government-owned UAW was rewarded. Once again, taking from the private sector and rewarding government. Obama just imposed his own bankruptcy in each case – and to hell with bankruptcy and contract law.
Yeah, it’s called creating jobs. The trouble with that is you have to be willing to show up to work.
And yup: That little panacea otherwise named “distribution of wealth” in Obama terms is Marxism. The capitalist idea of distribution of wealth is called getting your azz out of bed and going to work. It requires that you actually do and produce in order tap into that wealth. But, hey, it’s your soul you’re discounting if you can’t be bothered.
Hint: You’re really wasting your time here if you think that you’ll convince anyone other than yourself that your opinion has any merit.
Indeed. I would add that it is also called getting off the crack and meth and actually doing something to better oneself and stop feeling either entitled or, on the other hand, put upon. There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of pulling one’s own-self up by the bootstraps. Of course, that requires the type of ambition that goes beyond expecting a handout or a free ride.
I don’t believe that drug abuse or general laziness account for the fact that 95% of the population can only lay claim to 5% of the total wealth of the nation.
Nor do I believe that the work and creativity of 5% are responsible for creating 95% of the nation’s total wealth.
The dream is that work, effort, and thrift will lead to wealth. These days–if you work long and hard and are also lucky–they’ll lead to a bigger share of the crumbs. The greater portion of the wealth and security most people produce are destined for a different table.
Then, obviously, you’re not motivated to find out.
I’ve seen capitalism in action my whole life and whining is only marketable to those who have a welfare mentality. Successful money makers don’t have time to whine or listen to anyone who does. Those that whined usually just got fired and told to move on.
Your choice. Live and thrive in a capitalist society or find another one in another part of the world that will regulate your lazy azz and pay you crumbs from the collective. If that’s attractive to you – pack up!
Please be more specific.
Do you mean I should pack up and go to one of the places where the hardest working and most creative 5% have sent our jobs?
Or do you mean that I should go to one of the places where they’ve allowed all of the dirt-cheap labor to migrate from, to fill the jobs that remain here?
I don’t know which one you would prefer. How idiotic of you to ask.
I hear Cuba is looking for idiots. The cane fields are calling your name. Perhaps you can pick up a nice 1957 Chevy to drive to work in.
You can become Fidel and Raoul’s poster person for clueless communists everywhere.
They’ll all be saying: “Christo, we claw and steal to get out of this country and this idiot Americano/a comes here because he/she is too ignorant to understand freedom”
Your call.
Cuba is looking for you.
I’ll keep that in mind. Cuba will probably provide many serious small business and investment opportunities, once we finally get around those pro-capitalist, anti-regulation, free-market conservatives who have pretty much blocked U.S. citizens from traveling or doing any business there.
That is such patent b u l l s h i t, zippy and you know it. I didn’t get where I am by blaming everyone else for my problems. I didn’t have the help of thousands of drooling lackeys. No–I went in the service (Army) and spent three years on a rock two miles from the former East Germany when it wasn’t cool to do so. I served my country and received the GI Bill, a mere $342.00 per month for going to college in the late 70s and early 80s. While in college I also worked as a garbage collector one summer, with all the “benefits” and walked soy beans cutting weeds with a machete the other two summers to make enough to augment the money I was getting to pay for college and eat. I graduated with honors in 3 1/2 years with a degree in Chemistry and Philosophy. No small achievement. I’ve been working ever since, to include 4 moves and 5 temporary assignments away from my family. So I don’t want to hear about your whiny, guilt-trip laden poppycock about how the American dream is over. It’s only over if you expect a handout or preferential treatment. I should also add that you are truly a douche-bag if you think that the fulfilling of the American dream should only require a suspension of disbelief and merely necessitates a belief in That One. You’re a truly delusional. You want the dream, a-hole–WORK for it.
Why don’t you just shut up, troll. Frankly I’m sick of your woe-is-me hand wringing over situations that are primarily the fault of those
Laziness does account for a lot of it and you know it. I know a great many lazy people who just do enough to get by where I work. Tell me I’m wrong, naive one and I’ll send them your way for their future employment as they aren’t doing anything of value for my company. You can see to their needs.
You also didn’t respond to my comment about the self-evident sense of entitlement many of these bozos have because you don’t have an answer, DO YOU?
Great piece. And yuo are right. I always watched CNN and MSNBC until the primaries. Now I occasionally watch CNN (never MSNBC), but mostly have Fox in the background. Sometimes it’s too much for me, but I do believe that I get more of what is really going on from Fox.
