Feeling The Love?

One just has to wonder what prompted the child in the video below to ask Obama the question he did. Maybe people in his household were decrying the lack of it, or maybe this child was picking up on the animosity in the air, or maybe he just wanted to share the good news of God’s love for all. I don’t know, but all I can say is, out of the mouths of babes, as this article makes clear (H/T to Bronwyn’s Harbor):

ABC News’ Matthew Jaffe reports: President Obama, like any other President, has his fair share of critics. Even fourth-graders have noticed.

“Why do people hate you?”, a fourth-grade boy asked Obama at a town hall event in New Orleans today. “They’re supposed to love you. And God is love.”

“That’s what I’m talking about,” replied the President.

Here’s the video of the exchange, though the transcript is below if you’d prefer:

Um, what the hell was he talking about BEFORE the little boy asked his question? Wasn’t he saying, “It’s a man’s turn. Isn’t it? It’s a guy’s turn.” That’s what it sounded like to me, anyway…So, just what came BEFORE that?? Curious.

Obama continued his response to the child:

“First of all, I did get elected president, so not everybody hates me,” Obama noted, before adding, “What is true is if you were watching TV lately, it seems like everybody’s just getting mad all the time. And I — you know, I think that you’ve got to take it with a grain of salt. Some of it is just what’s called politics where, you know, once one party wins, then the other party kind of gets — feels like it needs to poke you a little bit to keep you on your toes.”

“And so you shouldn’t take it too seriously,” Obama told the boy. “And then, sometimes, as I said before, people just — I think they’re worried about their own lives. A lot of people are losing their jobs right now. A lot of people are losing their health care or they’ve lost their homes to foreclosure, and they’re feeling frustrated. And when you’re president of the United States, you know, you’ve got to deal with all of that.”

So, um, not to quibble or anything, but just when do you think you are going to get around to dealing with job loss, home loss, and losing health care? Hey, just asking:

“You get some of the credit when things go good. And when things are going tough, then, you know, you’re going to get some of the blame, and that’s part of the job,” he continued. “But, you know, I’m a pretty tough guy.”

“You’ve just got to keep on going, even when folks are criticizing you, because — as long as you know that you’re doing it for other people, all right?” Obama concluded.

The boy’s question was the last one the President fielded at his event at the University of New Orleans, his first trip to the city since being elected to the Oval Office.

Well, there is a good reason the child asked that question. While Obama did get elected, the latest Fox Poll shows that he wouldn’t if the election was held today, as this article highlights, Fox News Poll: 43 Percent Would Vote To Re-Elect President Obama:If the election were held today, 43 percent of American voters would back Barack Obama for president, according to a new Fox News poll.

Oh dear. I guess that’s some of the “blame” Obama is getting for not fulfilling his campaign promises, for starters, not to mention his continued constant campaigning instead of working thing he’s got going on. Here are the results of this poll:

In what may be the ultimate job rating, 43 percent of voters say that they would vote to re-elect President Obama if the 2012 election were held today, down from 52 percent six months ago, from April 22-23, 2009.

Obama’s job approval rating comes in at 49 percent this week. (Emphasis mine.) That’s down just one percentage point from late September, but it marks a new low approval for the president — and the first time the Fox News poll has measured his approval below 50 percent.

Moreover, the number of Americans saying they would vote to re-elect President Obama has dropped. If the election were held today the poll finds more voters say they would back someone else in the 2012 election than would back the president.

Despite winning the Nobel Peace Prize last Friday, the latest Fox News poll finds the president’s ratings on foreign issues are lower than his overall job ratings. All in all, 49 percent of Americans say they approve of the job President Obama is doing and 45 percent disapprove. His average approval for the term so far is 58 percent.

Yep, Obama’s approval numbers are below 50% for the first time at 49%. How about on some of the issues:

On Afghanistan, 41 percent of Americans say they approve of the job Obama is doing and 43 percent disapprove. For his handling of Iran, 44 percent approve and 43 percent disapprove.

On the president’s handling of the economy, voters are almost equally split: 48 percent approve and 49 percent disapprove. On health care, some 42 percent approve of the president’s performance and half disapprove, 50 percent.

Among Democrats, 78 percent say they would vote to re-elect President Obama, down from 87 percent in April. For 2008 Obama voters, 81 percent say they would vote to re-elect him — that’s a slight up tick from the 79 percent who said so previously.

Six in 10 Americans — 60 percent — think Obama is a strong and decisive leader.
And while 38 percent think President Obama is getting good advice from his advisors, a larger number — 45 percent — think he is “listening to the wrong people.” (Opinion Dynamics Corp. conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from October 13 to October 14. The poll has a 3-point error margin.)

Like Rahm Emmanuel, or David Axelrod, or Nancy Pelosi, or Harry Reid? Yeah, I’d say he’s listening to the wrong people.

And about that whole Nobel Peace Prize thing:

Did He Deserve It?

Upon winning the Nobel Peace Prize, Barack Obama said, “To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many transformational figures.” Most Americans agree with the president — 65 percent say he did not deserve to win, while 29 percent say he did.

Furthermore, a slim 54 percent majority of Democrats think Obama did deserve to win, while 38 percent disagree. For independents, 19 percent think he deserved it, while nearly three-quarters, 74 percent, say he did not. Among Republicans, almost all — 91 percent — say he did not deserve it.

When asked why the Nobel Committee gave the president the prize, about a third of Americans, 32 percent, say because he deserved it, while the largest number — 44 percent — think the committee hoped the prize would make Obama “think twice before using military force in the future.”

About that whole Nobel Peace Prize thing. Remember how we were all told the Committee Was unanimous in their decision to give it to Obama? Turns out that 3 out of 5 of them did NOT want to give it to him. Golly gee, I guess truth really DOES will out! Evidently, their reaction was the same as many of ours - he hasn’t DONE anything yet but speechify, for cryin’ out loud!

The poll also address how Congress was doing:

Most Americans are unhappy with Congress these days — 66 percent disapprove, including 45 percent of Democrats, 77 percent of independents and 84 percent of Republicans. Overall, less than one of four Americans, 24 percent, approve of the job Congress is doing.

Looking ahead to the 2010 Congressional election, for the first time this year the Republicans have the advantage: 42 percent of voters say they are more likely to back the Republicans to provide a check on President Obama’s power, while 38 percent say they would vote for the Democrat to help the president pass his policies.

Finally, in a rare example of bipartisan agreement, majorities of Democrats, 53 percent, Republicans, 78 percent, and Independents, 61 percent, agree the country is more divided these days. All in all, 64 percent of Americans think the country is more politically divided today — that’s more than twice the number who say it is not more divided, 31 percent.

Click here for the raw data.

What a bang-up job Obama has done in uniting us, just like he said he would. Blech. Can’t believe people fell for THAT line again, can you? Great - so glad there is one area that is truly bipartisan. Ahem.

And while President Obama is still feeling the love, the numbers of those who love him seem to be decreasing the more they open their eyes to see and their ears to hear. Such a shame they couldn’t muster that BEFORE the election, isn’t it? Now, his daily tracking poll continues to go down; Secretary Clinton’s approval numbers are higher than his (no big surprise to ME there); and his overall rating is at 49%. COngress doesn’t fare much better. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving guy, or more deserving Congress, could it?

Whoever fed this question to the innocent, unknowing child( was Axelrod within a hundred yards?) unwittingly gave a clear look into the narcissistic nature of BO–the country is going to hell and you know the only thing he’s worrying about is why Fox news, Beck and the rest of them hate him. This is beyond any thing I’ve ever seen from the leader of the free world–I wish we could all laugh at this insanity but he’s working so hard for a complete government takeover of our republic that the fact that someone allowed this kid to ask such a question means we are all in big trouble.

Comment by Scout | 2009-10-16 21:18:59

The willingness of him and his admin to manipulate kids is really unnerving and offensive to me.

Okay–and now that I can actually watch the exchange with the child, the obviousness of the plant is incredibly apparent–a bad job! Do you remember the famous Coke commercial when a little boy stops a weary Pittsburgh Steeler Mean Joe Green in the tunnel on his way to the locker room? The little boy gives him a Coke and Mean Joe tosses him his jersey–well, that was cute, but nobody believed it wasn’t carefully staged. This Obama encounter is in the same category of phoniness–except it isn’t cute–it is very manipulative and insulting to the intelligence of the American people. And Thee One is tough–just like Mean Joe Green!

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-10-17 11:46:51

Excellent comparison, oowawa - yes, I remember that commercial very well. And yes, it is evident this poor child is being used by The One. Pathetic…

Oh, gag me. I won’t watch this latest photo op. I have enough I’m forced to take from Obama, I draw the line at his marketing, even though it was such an important question to be asked from a child no less.(snark).

And I guess I have to remind our media and voters, it is not a requirement to hate Obama to know he is inexperienced, lied, is over his head and can’t do his job elected and marketed for. However, it is easy to see how the hate can come when you see how he is selfishly racking up our debt and hurting us, because he ego was so big that he agreed to be the Corporate’s whore, even though he was not qualified for the job, as even he admitted.

Comment by sowsear | 2009-10-16 19:20:01

The child was a plant and it was just another opportunity for BO to say, “I won”.
Note that the child was Afro-American. Maybe that was a subtle reminder that there is a racial component to the hate. The black child cannot understand it because God is love…

But of course this boy was a plant, just like the little girl whose mother was an Obama staffer in the primaries.

His question follows so closely on the WH narrative of dissing Fox News and Anita Dunn making a fool of herself in public, that whether this child was a plant or not is easily figured out by Americans watching.

So, basically, his visit to New Orleans was about politics, and he was there only 4 hours. Then he jetted off to the millionaire fundraiser in San Francisco—same millionaire group he told that “regular” people in PA were bitter clingers.

Obama is still campaigning, while our boys in Afghanistan are dying.

The reason people “hate” Mr. Obama is clear: he will sink this country and its future. Whether he does so as part of a contrived plan or through sheer negligence is not material. I could make the case for either proposition. The proposition I cannot make is that we will get through it safely with this man at the helm. That is why many of us wanted Hillary. Even if she does run in 2012 it will not be the same country or the same party. The Obama bots who continue to worship Obama and defend him are not worth paying attention to. All their false claims of racism which began in South Carolina and screams bush did it which is yesterdays news are like that line from Shakespeare are like about a tale told by an idiot signifying nothing. Their day will come too. In 1946 every Parisianne remembered that during the war they were part of the Resistance.

In case my last post does not show up here is the condensed statement of what I said:

1. the reason people hate obama is because they believe he will ruin this country and their future.

2. whether he does so as part of some nefarious scheme or by inexperience + poor judgment is hardly the point.

3. I could make a case for either or both. The evidence is in the public domain.

4. I have three problems with people who defend him:

a. first, he is a serial liar.

b. second, it is not racism to criticize his improvident policies and actions.

c. third, the answer to every criticism must be more than Bush did it. That is no defense.

Comment by lorac | 2009-10-17 01:56:38

I wish that everytime the inevitable response of “racism” comes after a criticism of Obama, the person would turn it back on the Obot and demand they give ONE example of what criticism of Obama would NOT be “racist” - making it plainly obvious that their “racism” response is an automatic reaction to everything, and not a considered response. If we all started doing that, maybe their ability to play the race card would diminish….

But then again…. since most of the obots I’ve encountered seem to have only started paying attention to politics (regardless of age) this last election, they probably think Obama is the first president to ever be criticized….

Comment by lorac | 2009-10-17 01:58:12

I know some people who now make it clear that they’re criticizing his WHITE half, so they can’t be being racist lol

5. But the biggest disappointment of all is we could have had Hillary.

a. the change she advocated was to solve problems, and she had the experience to deliver.

b. with her at the helm we would have tightened out belt and gotten though this mess.

c. the world we see around us is vanishing before our eyes. Too many people have been bamboozled.

d. Machiavelli asked is it better to be loved or feared. If you cannot have both the he must at least be feared.

e. Obama is not feared. He is an international joke. As a result our enemies are taking advantage of the situation, and our allies are looking elsewhere.

f. this is not a defense of Bush.

Here’s another, I could have had a V-8 moment from Lame Cherry:
http://lamecherry.blogspot.com/

This means that a palace coup can very well take place when that 57% number inflates a few more points and that is what Hillary Clinton and her elitists have been preparing for.
None of this is by accident. It is deliberate and Obama is being pounded by Woodward and Rose all for the purpose of getting what leftist policies they can get done out of him, blame him and then discard him, so a tasty new clean candidate can look forlorn at the mess and in Harry Truman fashion say, “I told you I didn’t want to be here, but here I am”.

That person is Hillary Clinton and the patricians desperately want Mike Huckabee to be the 2012 candidate from balding Arkansas who couldn’t even beat John McCain to be the GOP nomination so Mrs. Clinton can wipe the floor with him

And then there’s the people I hang with, a guy named Ayers who blew up buildings, laughed about getting away with it and now teaches college kids to hate the United States; and then they hate me because my lovely wife wasn’t proud of her country before I got elected and now has 26 servants to wait on her; and then they hate me cause of the color of my skin, they’re all racists, all those taxpayers who I just want to get with the program and spread their hard earned money to people who sit on a couch all day because they’ve been victimized;they hate me because I sat and listened to a man named Rev Wright who taught me about the evils this country’s founding fathers perpetrated and because I’m a Marxist who just wants to fundamentally transform this country into a communist utopia where no one owns anything except for me and my Chicago pals and where everyone will volunteer and if they don’t ‘ll confiscate any meager salaries they have left. That’s why they hate me, son.”

The inside dope was he made fine opening statements, but was lost in the details of the case. The opening statement is not evidence it is simply an explanation of what you intend to do. Direct examination and cross examination is where you get the job done. During that phase of a trial he was anxious to settle. Not surprisingly, the opposing lawyers always played him that way. Nunc pro tunc–now as then. Except now he is dealing with people like Putin, and that Richie Valens wannabe HughoIStay Chavez. Most presidents incur some degree of hate. Ike was an exception because he was a proven leader in war, and a father figure to the people in that generation. Kennedy was glamorous but he had many detractors. Johnson was hated for the Viet Nam War. Nixon was hated for Watergate. Ford was hated for pardoning Nixon. Carter was hated for showing weakness in the face of provocation and high interest rates. Reagan was mostly liked during his first term and his second term was marred by Iran Contra and for initiating some of the economic policies that led us to where we are today. Bush 41 broke his promise on taxes and was hated for that lie. Bill Clinton was liked by most people other than the media and the right wing. Bush 43 was hated and many left the party because of it, present company included. Wha all this means is that being hated is common if you happen to be president. Most people know these are realize these are tough times and wanted to give Obama a chance. But in the final analysis it is like the Hippocratic Oath–first do no harm. Many people are now saying that he inherited a recession and is well on the way to turning it into a depression.

I agree. That planted kid is damned near as bad as that great softball pitcher Jake The Snake Taper. He worships the ground Obama walks on. He should be covering the Society page. Shadow boxing like Gentleman Jim Corbett and never landing a punch.

He saves his moxy for Gibbs, who reminds me of a retarded version of Columbo. When he and the snake go at it neither takes any prisoners. They are enough to make a bad vaudville act. Or, where is that have a vaudville hook. We have seen more that enough of this sordid comedy routine.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2009-10-16 21:32:47

Oh, I don’t Obama is dumb. I think he’s sly like a fox with a great [but now faltering PR team]. That speech in New Orleans was awful. I heard part of it on the radio and the man was rambling all the over the place with his peacher man’s voice on. Since I didn’t see it, I assume TOTUS was out of service or lost en route. But he played the crowd, made empty promises, told them what brave, courageous soldiers they were to keep on, keeping on. And the crowd? They went nuts cheering and clapping.

I was shaking my head on the drive home. Because in the end? The man said nothing substantial. This was a poor rendition of campaign speak. Why there are any people left who still suck this nonsense up is beyond me.

But even the most koolaide addicted will have a Come to Jesus moment when they realize the rainbows and unicorns were illusions at best, but in the end cruel mirages.

He is too busy working the room.As for working hard to improve the lives of the American people he’s got about as much time for that as he did for holding meetings while chair of the committee overseeing Afghanistan.

Is it just me or does it seem Tyra Banks, Oprah and Obama all have that same affected sermon voice?

Comment by catherine | 2009-10-16 23:18:20

Yes, God IS love but Obama is NOT God, no matter what he and his lemmings think!

Oh, SNAP!! Perfect, Catherine!!! :-D

Does anybody know how many trips he’s taken in Airforce One since his coronation/inauguration?
If it cost us, the tax payers $450,000 to take his wife on a date to Chicago, what has it cost us for his campaigning, junkets to Stockholm, flits around New York for his kids etc.etc?
Then wonder why he’s hated. I lost my job because of the economic downturn, but I’m still taxed on any unemployment I get. For what?

Comment by Martha Washington Collier | 2009-10-17 00:47:23

Yep, and I’ll bet that’s what the generous $250 for seniors is about too. It will be taxed.

Comment by Ginger | 2009-10-17 01:23:30

Oh. Barf.

I remember there was a handwritten, uploaded post on Obama’s campaign site that said “Obama is God”.

Well, knowing this full well, they used that child.

Obama = God
God = Love
Obama = Love

It is right up there with the school children singing. Exploiting our nation’s children for personal gain is pretty low.

Comment by jwrjr | 2009-10-17 02:01:43

In the real world Obama = Nausea.

Comment by TeakWoodKite | 2009-10-17 02:21:34

he continued. “But, you know, I’m a pretty tough guy.”

.

That is what a wimp would say. Tough guys don’t speak of it. No need to.

Obama’s job approval rating comes in at 49 percent this week.

Rasmussen seems to be the only major national poll showing a higer disapproval number than approval. The RCP average shows approval by a 11.3 point margin.

Sounds like a planted question to me!

Wonder why this kid would think Obama is hated? It sounds like a strange question to me. Evidently his parents are teaching him that an objection to a policy is hating the person promoting the policy. Seems like child abuse to me.

Comment by Martha Washington Collier | 2009-10-17 13:47:33

Yes, it was an adult question. We know that the kid goes to a school where 0zer0 is not hated but worshiped. How confusing that must be for him.

Comment by ziggy | 2009-10-17 14:44:04

Maybe he was surfing channels after school and ran across Glenn Beck.

Kids that age don’t understand the content of a lot of adult discussion, but they’re quick to pick up on anger and hostility.

Maybe you’ll win the Publishers Clearing House millions, too. Maybe…

LOL!

There’s some swamp land in Florida with your name on it, Ziggy.

Comment by ziggy | 2009-10-17 16:29:26

Not much chance of that. I’ve got a finely-tuned BS detector that’s sensitive across the entire economic and political spectrum.

Of course the kid was a plant. It was television. But that doesn’t mean the question wasn’t valid. Political theater is part of the media landscape.

Comment by Ferd Berfle | 2009-10-17 17:07:33

So that constant din from your bs detector going off when you think or speak or write must be getting to you by now, zippy.

I think there should be a law passed disallowing a sitting President to make fundraising and campaign trips, costing taxpayer dollars. He is not being paid to campaign or to raise funds for his party!

Comment by getfitnow | 2009-10-17 08:00:30

Yep, I agree. He was in SF later for fund raising. BTW, there were tea party protesters in Union Square. I heard nothing in the local msm about the protesters–a couple of thousand–in Pelosi’s backyard. Nope, nothing happening here…move along.

Comment by Katmoon | 2009-10-17 09:36:14

Or have tax payer money pay for the birthday party for the first dog. I love my animals, but in this economy, with the no COLA for seniors, this is just plain insulting. And hey, I never knew the White House had a facebook page.

The White House Every family member deserves a birthday party—even if the one celebrating is a four-legged member. Here, Bo’s brother Cappy sneaks a treat from a table in the White House Rose Garden.

Obama: “Lets er, ah, give uh, um… chance.”

Audience member: “What did he say?”

Another audience member: “He said, ‘Lets ah, um, give er, uh… chance.’”

Audience member: “No, I distinctly remembered him saying, ‘Lets er, ah, give uh, um… chance.’” “What in the hell does that mean?”
