Juan Williams Calls Out the Race Baiters…This Is Must See TV!

Bumped up from Saturday night.

Whatever one may think of Rush Limbaugh, the controversy surrounding his attempts to participate in a consortium buying the Rams has made for some strange bedfellows. Apparently Limbaugh was falsely accused of making racist statements he did not make. Juan Williams of FOX News stood up for the truth and was told he should “get back on the porch.” Understandably, Mr. Williams was furious. While he has at times been critical of President Obama, it is not his habit. Imagine his horror when he realized that if he dares for once to tell a truth that is not “politically correct,” he too will be thrown under the bus by race baiters.

Mr. Williams interviews commentator Tammy Bruce and the Rev. Ken Hutcherson, PhD, a former NFL player, conservative pastor and African American who is close friends with Mr. Limbaugh. This 7:45 video is well worth your time…*

Wow. I’ve never seen Juan that mad–and he had a right to be. The left has no more arguments–they only have race cards, which they pull at every opportunity.

Comment by Tex-Mex Soup | 2009-10-17 21:36:33

not only is the left using and re-using the race card, now its black on black racism?? How stupid and moronic is that?

I watched an interview with jamie foxx today and he was going on about how he wanted to kick society in the nuts with a steal toe boot because society has gotten so uptight about humor and he brings up david letterman and his vile jokes about Sarah Palin as his example. Of course he brings up that reference. Why didn’t he bring up the obama jokes as just that…..jokes. Because the tired old meme of racism would have been shoved down or throats.

Sorry it doesn’t work that way jamie. You can’t condone sexist jokes about a woman because she is a woman and she is white and get your panties in a wad when a joke is made about your president because you in your twisted millionare mind think its racism because he’s black. Deal with the reality that obama sucks period and it has got nothing to do with his race.

Comment by Ferd Berfle | 2009-10-17 21:42:16

Their selective indignation is appalling, at best. When I start hearing blacks make jokes about their own hypocrisy, I’ll stop criticizing them for it.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-10-17 22:02:01

Jamie Foxx is another one for whom I have lost all respect after this past election, and this doesn’t help.

The immediate resort to name calling by the Obama supporters is very telling. If they were thoroughly convinced of Obama’s magnificence, why do the feel the need to demean and belittle anyone who questions him in the least?

Comment by Katmoon | 2009-10-17 22:08:30

RRA-It is how it is done now, with a “Paris Hilton” mentality. There haven’t been adults in the room for a very long time now. Their name calling and instant defensiveness show just how fragile and unsure of themselves they are. Every move and action is telegraphed-and if one should speak about how they caught onto the game, then it is time to ruin their life, by libel, slander and whatever means necessary.

Makes me wish for the days of the dunking stool, stocks and pillories.

Comment by trixta | 2009-10-17 22:18:52

This is the new McCarthyism. If you disagree with their policies or agendas you’re a racist, pure and simple. GWB called us unpatriotic and unAmerican when we objected to his war, and now BO is using the same tactics. Despicable!

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-10-17 22:28:06

Good points, Katmoon and trixta. It is really disturbing, though, and that so much of this vitriol is coming from the very party that claims to speak for the little people, and all of that “feel good” stuff.

And Ani, you said it - it is unfortunate that Juan couldn’t take off his blinders before having that incredibly loaded, offensive, epithet hurled at him.

Too bad Juan had to be on the receiving end of what so many others of us have had to suffer for the crime of wanting to vet our president, or hold him accountable for his promises, or thoroughly review his policies…

Comment by Scout | 2009-10-18 00:57:33

Juan was a Hillary supporter initially, one of the few African Americans who treated her fairly during the primary and who called the Obama campaign on it’s sexism and race baiting back then.

I’ve never thought of him as having blinders on about Obama, though he has been supportive of him since the primary ended. I’ve never seen him so angry and so personally offended. Ouch!!

It is amazing to me how many folks, like Tammy Bruce, now say things like “my time on the left,” or “when I was a Democrat,” or “as an ex-Dem/leftie/progressive”

People are disassociating from those groups as we see how sanctimonious, rigid, and willing to destroy opponents they are.

Comment by Ani | 2009-10-18 01:02:12

Very good point about Tammy Bruce’s statements. I understand exactly how she feels.

And thanks for the info about Juan - I didn’t realize he supported Hillary during the primaries. At least that tells me he had some good sense.

Comment by getfitnow | 2009-10-18 07:35:38

Speaking of the primaries, do you recall how Tavis Smiley was “taken to the wood shed” for his support of Hillary–by black callers to his co-hosted urban radio program? He finally stopped doing the show.

Comment by Portia Elizabeth | 2009-10-18 11:58:37

I remember they even threatened his mother!

Comment by Ani | 2009-10-18 13:14:57

Tavis Smiley was thrown under the bus and threatened because he dared to ask why Barack Obama could not be bothered to attend the State of the Black Union event in Louisiana, when he was just over in the neighboring state of Texas campaigning. Hillary attending and despite a cool reception, was open and gracious, answered questions and made her case to the audience.

Since Mr. Obama already had their votes, he did not find it necessary to bother. I think Katrina victims, seeing his lackadaisical, all talk no walk speech to them the other day, now know where his priorities are.

Imagine the audactity of Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. who said that “Hillary did not cry for Katrina victims.” I guess we know now who DID NOT CRY for them.

Comment by Lyn | 2009-10-18 18:01:31

and then JJ was boohooing for HIMSELF when he got trying to buy Obama or Rahms seat

The NEW McCarthyism? You don’t know the HALF of what it’s like to be conservative working in the entertainment business.
I have actor friends who have been BANNED from theater work just because they disagreed on politics. And these were exceptional actors with long reputations spanning from Broadway to the Guthrie theater.

If you don’t walk in lock step with these Marxists, you are destroyed.

Juan Williams is a fake liberal, but that’s all right, he’s found his niche in FOX.
The Rev. Hutcherson, on the other hand if you do a quick research you’ll find he is one of the most prominent anti-gay bigots in the state of Washington, if not on the whole West Coast.
This is the guy who told his flock that “God hates effeminate men”.
He also headed up an initiative to legalize anti-gay discrimination in Washington state (and failed miserably).
He is heavily involved in promoting a virulent and violent anti-gay organization called ‘Watchmen on the Walls’. This is a global Evangelical-Christian outfit that, elsewhere in the world and particularly in Eastern Europe is associated with violent anti-gay hate crimes.

Comment by Ferd Berfle | 2009-10-18 10:00:43

No–it means you’re a hypocrite for condemning one and not the other. Apparently you can cry foul on others but when called on your own side’s foibles, you project the blame back on us, like every good obamabot does. You best be careful in that glass house of yours when throwing stones.

Comment by Nellie | 2009-10-18 18:02:44

Good point on the Hypocrisy.

Ferd, Don’r forget that James Meeks is getting OUR tax dollars for being part of the Faith Based whatever in the WH!

And Obama has done what for gays, Zoom? Looks to me like BO has done more harm to race and gender relations than any preacher or politician before him. He lent his voice out to those robo calls campaigning for Prop 8 in California. Remember that? As a result, many of BO’s constituents voted for Prop 8.

Comment by Scout | 2009-10-18 01:02:55

Yes, he is very actively anti-gay. It made for an interesting juxtaposition to have him and Tammy Bruce on at the same time.

Bruce rocked, imho.

Comment by getfitnow | 2009-10-18 07:55:07

I would disagree with the Rev on his anti-gay stance/views, if true, but that does not make him wrong in this matter.

I agree with Rush L on practically nothing; however, to be charged as a racist by using “quotes” that have not been sourced, and seemingly made up, I find this despicable. But it’s part of the ongoing race baiting that has been elevated with the election of BO?And what saddens me, is how quickly people will “believe”.

During the summer, Hillary made a statement about Robt. Kennedy. The msm, blogs, BO’s campaign–somehow her statement was twisted to comparing Robt K’s murder to what could happen to BO. Blogs that even supported Hillary at the time jumped on board with how could she say such a thing. The reporter that did the interview and Robt K jr. came out and said that she didn’t say it. It wasn’t until the taped interview was played–and it was obvious she didn’t say anything like that that her supporters came back to their senses. BO’s comment was that he knew she wished she had worded it little better. Please!!

Do you mean it took you this long to reach a character conclusion about J. Foxx? This POS racist stood behind Michael Vick, telling us, before, to mind our own business. That was well over 2 years ago. He had the audacity then to pout like a wittle boy when he appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show because of the treatment given to Vick. How could anyone put stock into that kind of barbaric mind on any issue. Kimmel’s audience is so fucking dumb that it went right past them. Foxx can take comfort in knowing that the vast majority of his race sided with him, a tremendous embarrassment to the rest of the blacks…and don’t hand me that “culture” justification. It is what it is no matter where your ancestors came from.

Comment by Ani | 2009-10-17 22:12:19

You’re right about that.

He was correct to be angry. The unfortunate part is that it took this race card nonsense to be directed at him for Juan to finally wake up to what this administration and its surrogates are doing on a daily basis to all those with any sort of criticism or opposing viewpoints.

Comment by ImaLlindatoo | 2009-10-17 23:30:03

Agreed. The so-called “left”…now the New Left, Communism, has become worse than anything they could ever claim of others. And our media is dead. If there are any journalists left working on those former “News” outlets, they should resign in embarrassment that they have become nothing but a political arm of this administration and further driving us in to his Communism.

Democratic politicians should be embarrassed. And if they don’t speak out, they are part of the problem. That’s pretty low.

Comment by getfitnow | 2009-10-18 07:57:30

I agree–anyone who would let this stand is part of the problem. This is one of many reasons I will never support BO.

One term and out. Keep talking, Ballantine.

Holy smokes, Ani - this is astonishing. Tammy Bruce makes some great points, too. They ARE trying to destroy people - all the while singing “KumByeYah…”

And Juan has every reason in the world to be FURIOUS with how that man treated him. Reprehensible.

Comment by Lyn | 2009-10-17 21:47:09

They’ve tried to destroy anyone that told the truth about Obama all along. Look what the did to Bill Clinton and they tried their hardest to destroy Joe the Plumber, just because the answer Obama gave made him look bad, all Joe did was be in his own front yard playing with his son and Obama came to him, but because Obama didn’t have his teleprompter and slipped up and told the truth about wanted to spread the wealth, his records were released, they went after his job…

Comment by Portia Elizabeth | 2009-10-18 12:05:09

I’m no fan of Lush Rumball’s, but I don’t think the sports world should be manipulated by politicians. If Lush wants to buy a sports team, who cares? He has tons of $ and would probably inject much needed $ and energy into the team.

Juan Williams is my favorite newsman of today. He has class and intelligence and doesn’t see things thru “race-tinted glasses”.

Mr uniter my foot. The number of Americans who think racial division has intensified since B0 took office is increasing. And ask Democrats how strong our party (or ex party?) is looking since B0 took over. He is tearing us apart, literally.

Comment by leslie | 2009-10-18 12:46:24

Here in Chicago, a group of AA ministers has joined together asking the several AAs who are attempting to run for election to the position of the president of the Cook County Board - to step down and allow the current crooked man who “serves” as the president of the board (Todd Stroger) to remain in place. This group of black ministers has said that the AA community must not be divided and allow a white person to fill the position. They have said “It is our time” and they intend for the AA community to remain “in charge” .

So much for post-racial America. Or at least, so much for post-racial Chicago.

Obama spends 4 hours so far in New Orleans since “becoming” president.Yet he has his minions fanning out calling anyone who says anything in dissent to his line a racist. If he cares about African Americans who voted for him to the tune of 90% then show some respect. Rush isn’t the issue whatever his views. The smokescreen is always up but nothing of substance is ever done by him. It is absolutely surreal.

Comment by old one | 2009-10-17 22:00:11

This little reparte between Juan Williams and the BO crowd, via Ballatine, is significant and will have repurcations (sp?) for a great time. Little ripples go a long way. Juan has been thinking he was inured to BO’s true political, heavy feelings, we shall see more ahead from him and others.

Comment by jbjd | 2009-10-17 23:42:18

What is most significant is that, JW was clarifying the attribution of the phrase, ‘BO the magic Negro,’ which was wrongly being attributed to RL. Someone so long associated with the ‘news’ business could naturally be expected to want to get the facts straight. But because clarifying the facts would tend to ‘exonerate’ RL, the object of the BO jihad, for repeating that same phrase, JW was charged with being a ‘house nigger.’

Poor JW. He cried when BO became the D nominee, mistakenly thinking he had actually won the nomination.

Comment by Portia Elizabeth | 2009-10-18 12:09:46

I have a great deal of respect for Juan Williams. He may not always manage, but he does strive to be objective. For him to be insulted in this way is tragic. I only hope the incident will open the eyes of those others who thought they were immune to such attacks.

It can happen to anyone. Yes it can!

Comment by Scout | 2009-10-18 01:12:40

I wonder if B0 is chilling some beer in the cooler for a summit between Juan and Ballantine. Oh never mind, there was no white person involved so it couldn’t possibly be a teachable moment requiring the great master Obama.

Comment by Cathy in Ks. | 2009-10-17 22:26:14

Excellent interview and discussion. Thanks. I missed this one although I did see the first interview where Juan Williams was insulted by Ballentine. I have to admit, I did not understand how truly repugnant the statement was meant to be to Williams.
BTW, I happened to catch Rush Limbaugh’s radio show when the Reverend Hutcherson called in. This man was angry then and he’s still angry about what happened to his friend - Rush. Quite frankly, I don’t blame him.
I wish Rush would sue all those “faux media outlets” who have perpetuated the false statements about him. And I agree with previous commenters, that the race baiters, and Obamabots are only hurting Obama. They are also hurting many democrats in public office everywhere. Maybe people like Sharpton are really “closet conservatives”. They are doing more harm than good by their meddling and false accusations.

Comment by getfitnow | 2009-10-18 08:10:03

Sharpton and Jackson are in the race business–keeping things stirred up and being paid to do so. Jackson has gone way of track from his “good works” so many years ago. I hope that innocent, accused individuals will not let these accusations stand and call these “baiters” out. It takes courage. This needs to be nipped in the bud right now.

Comment by candymarl | 2009-10-17 22:33:55

I remember when Juan Williams was semi-defending these kind of tactics by Obama and his supporters. He even implied, at least IMHO, that perhaps the criticism directed at Obama and his administration did have an element of racism.

Like every other Obot that dared to disagree he didn’t realize what he was up against. Juan Williams thought he was “safe”. Guess not.

Comment by thinker | 2009-10-17 23:17:15

I too was disappointed recently when Juan seemed to agree with Carter’s comments that critism of Obama was racist. I also agree with Lyn that Juan is in tizzy right now because the derogatory accusations are being levelled at him directly, however he mananged to igore when people like Geraldine Ferraro was villified for making a comment that Obama himself had made and when a regular American citizen, Joe the Plumber was derogated and vilified, by the left and his personal information was “leaked” in order to discredit him when all that he had done was ask an innocent question - he was crucified because Obama gave the wrong answer. Where was Juan’s indignation and passion then? I guess that it is a lot different when you become the target of the attacks.

Comment by getfitnow | 2009-10-18 08:11:46

Juan is not just an Obot. He initially supported Hillary, as I recall, and he moved over to Obama support after the primary but he has not been a giant cheerleader like most of the MSM. His position, especially as a black man, has been somewhat moderate toward B0.

Comment by candymarl | 2009-10-18 12:32:56

I meant Juan was an Obot in the sense that he thought his being black would somehow insulate him from “racist” criticism.

However, you are correct that he has not been as vocal a cheerleader as many on the “left” in the MSM.

Comment by stodgie | 2009-10-18 19:55:27

This administration can’t do anything without the “boogeyman” to campaign against. It was Bush, Limbaugh, Palin, Fox, racism. name it… his supporters are apologists for him and use every excuse as a crutch for why he doesn’t do anything. He is “Plastic Jesus” a false messiah that can be stretched into anything to match the crowd… he can speak with a southern drawl in New Orleans with the cadence of a TV preacher and is just as smarmy as when the TV preachers are going for the money. I almost expect him to start doing miracles on TV… somebody in the audience has three kids and just lost their job and lost their insurance… you are getting a better job tomorrow… praise Barack all mighty. Then ask for volunteer hours. I doubt he was any better a community organizer than he was a senator or that he is a President… just false hope.

I read today that it is not racist for a black person to use racist a slur against another black. Kind of like it is not sexist for a woman to use a sexist slur against another woman. Great post, thank you. This is all just unbelievable, that the Democrats are shutting their eyes to this NeoCommunism brought about by Obama.

The Right may not have to do much, but what is clear is the Left own actions are burying themselves. They so deserve to lose their power. Not only that, Fitzgerald better be investigating Obama as he has on too many occasions abused and overreached his powers.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2009-10-17 23:51:09

The comment made to Juan Williams was outrageously insulting. He was basically called a “house negro” for not agreeing with the nonstop attacks that have been coming out of so-called “liberal” mouths. If you’re white, you’re a racist. If you’re black, you’re an Uncle Tom. And if you’re a woman who opposes the liberal spin you can be called every filthy name in the book.

If this is the “New” Democratic Party, they should all rot in hell. The hyprocrisy alone is enough to make you gag.

Btw, Williams has been called out before for simply being on Fox News. And though he has defended the Obama Administration, he’s even-handed and fair. Not to the mention the man has had a distinquished journalistic career.

He didn’t deserve this. None of us do.

All of us involved in the primary for Hillary knew the kind of dirty politics the Obama gang was willing to play; so none of this is a surprise to us. How many AA Hillary supporters were called Uncle Toms? No one seemed to care then; perhaps everyone thought they deserved it because they were campaigning for a white women (though not at all a “typical white woman”).

I guess a snake is a snake and a leopard can’t change its spots. It will come out more and more as this lame excuse for an administration faces push back from the public.

I am just waiting for the incident that will finally be the one to blow up in their faces. Where is our new Deep Throat? I am hoping indeed that it is an impeachable offense, one that causes a resignation. This time there won’t be a Ford to grant a pardon, or at least I can hope for that change.

Comment by Lyn | 2009-10-18 12:01:12

I agree with everything you wrote. I keep hoping someone he used and then tossed aside when he was done with them, gets so pissed they tell all his secrets, I think it would be great if it was Ayers. You KNOW he knows everything about Obama and I’m sure he has proof.

Comment by Lana | 2009-10-18 21:06:52

I think he has committed an impeachable offense and it is documented. He cheated and stole this election. The whole world watched. We have the real numbers of who won the election. We have videotaped evidence of Obama reps cheating at the caucuses. We have testimony from the delegates about what happened in Denver when they wanted to vote for Hillary. We have Dr. Lynette Long’s excellent work. It’s all there, but who is going to do anything about it??

I particularly enjoyed this awakening. Thank you FOX for showing that there are AA conservatives and gay/lesbian conservatives. If anyone is stereotyping, its the Democrats. Like Michelle, I was one at one time also. I’m not particularly conservative, but I am definitely no longer a Democrat. I’ve never witnessed a party implode so fast. They are jettisoning people right and left. Thats what happens when you lie so much. You can’t defend the lies, so you attack. Soon, nobody will be left. Its obvious and they’re not that good at it so its gonna bite them in the ass.

Williams is often on Bret Beier’s evening news segment. He should not be surprised to be targeted.
In my opinion, he goes just so far in critizing BO, and I sense that he dislikes Krauthammer, and definitely Kristol. His eyes get round, and he gets defensive.
As to race, do we see Native Americans, Asians, or even Hispanics daily lambasting everyone in sight about discrimination? Not!
Those who choose to blame any and all, for their own short-comings are THEIR own worst enemy!

Spot on, Sassy. The Native Americans aren’t whiners but if any group has a reason to feel bitter, it is the Native Americans who to this day are still treated as second-class citizens. This country has continually failed to live up to treaty obligations but you seldom hear any whining about it. They’re slowly but steadily working out their own problems, e.g., casinos, in spite of the roadblocks thrown their way.

You know I really hate when these discussions come around cause it always turns into an “Oppression Olympics” argument.
Who are you to decide which group had it worse off? For me any form of oppression is evil. I don’t believe in varying degrees of injustice.
Maybe Jews don’t complain about the injustice as often because Hollywood makes a movie every other day about the Holocaust/WWII.
Maybe Native Americans do complain but they pretty much ignored by society since they’re on the reservations and can be easily dismissed.
As for Latinos they’ve had large marches across this country and seem to be better organized than African-Americans. They’re already integrated into our society faster…you can see the evidence of that at any ATM or phone prompt when you press “1″. For English.
Just because the so called “black leadership” is a fraud…doesn’t mean the concerns of the black folks are phoney or a trifle. I would say be careful of what you are implying

Comment by Jillie | 2009-10-18 12:45:51

how about the biggest ‘minority’ of them all..the one that is still the target of jokes, discrimination, nasty attitudes that are considered ‘de rigeur.’ the one that is subject to institutionalized abuse supported by culture, courts, government.

you know…women…that minority.

Dr. David Manning in one of his pre-election you-tube clips said to the effect that ….blacks aren’t ready to hold high levels of power because they had not progressed themselves into being all embracing of differences…

Dr. Manning is black and he is a strong opponent of Obama. His observations appear to be true.

There’s always a whole lotta hypocrisy to go around, if we’re honest with ourselves and others.

For example, some people will excuse anything because someone’s black; others have selective attention about Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton; still others are amazingly selective when it comes to Barack Obama’s administration’s actions. Putting people up on pedestals is never a good idea; few people are saints, er, or messiah’s either.

I really hate hypocrisy, when I’m confronted with it in myself, and when I see other’s blatantly pushing their own version.

But, at least, the British High Court, in this ruling, showed they are not hypocrites, when it comes to ruling against secrecy by both Obama and Brown. A very important column on this significant court ruling; those who hate hypocrisy will want to read the entire column.

That’s a really disturbing article, mountainaires. I wish Hillary Clinton hadn’t been involved in this but according to this article she not only reiterated Bush policy-same-as-Obama-policy and extended the threats on disclosure but her Department expressed displeasure with the High Court’s ultimate ruling.

Ugly stuff!

Wasn’t there a few years back (like 20) a really very racist woman who owned either an NFL or MBA team? SHe owned teh team outright and had full control over decisions. CAnnot remember her name, but although everyone hated her, she was allowed to own a team.

Tehre are all kinds and I do not like Limbaugh, but I do object to this notion of anyone telling someone else they cannot buy something on the open market. They need to worry about bigger issues than ruining anyone who criticizes Obama.Maybe get to work and fix a few things.

Very thought-provoking article, Ani–thank you. Back in April (after Thee One’s bowing incident before the Saudi King), Larry Johnson published an article centered on the idea of the “house negro.” The second video in this article features Malcolm X explaining the meaning of the term. This elucidates why Juan Williams was so upset about being accused of “sitting on the porch.”

Wow. This video is powerful. Regardless of all the other factors mentioned by NQ contributors involved, I think if you look at the key theme in this video, we may be living through a turning point. My understanding is that there have been a lot of compelling reasons for black Americans to support Obama: historical factors, social pressures from various communities, and sociological pressures resulting from the unfortunate tendency in U.S. educational policies and linguistic trends in the last decade to treat “black Americans” as a group more separate from than united with all “Americans.”

This video, in exposing the hypocrisy and lies surrouding the Obama camp, may encourage those black Americans who supported Obama for reasons other than
his qualifications (or lack thereof) or who felt pressure to support him as part of a feeling of “black American solidarity” to start treating Obama and the Democrats as politicians who should be judged on their politics and not their skin color. I look forward to the day when Americans are divided by a healthy competition of political ideas and not by race. I think that this video is one small step in what is hopefully a big leap in that direction.

While I am no fan of Limbaugh and find him uncivilized, he has a right to speak. And simply because Limbaugh often engages in what I would characterize as Neanderthal commentary does not give the left carte blanche to do the same.

As he is being “judged” so are you far-left goofballs who criticize everyone else for their foibles but turn a blind eye towards your own. Your hypocrisy belies your pious words.

Juan Williams’s problem is that he’s still a real Democrat (moderate to conservative, despite considering himself to be a “liberal”) in a day and age when that party doesn’t exist except as a name that has been hijacked by a cynical bunch of statist kleptocrats. He’s been wavering for a while because he really wanted to believe the best about and expect the best from the first black President. He’s having a hard time accepting the fact that that the terms “Democrat” and “Republican”, “liberal” and “conservative”, just don’t mean anything, just don’t stand for anything, in today’s political reality.

Ballantine just sent Williams a wake-up call similar to the one that caused the most excellent Tammy Bruce to shift her political thinking. In fact, I think the excesses of the present administration and the party that used to be “democratic” represent (unintentionally on their part) a wake-up call for America. The party that used to be “republican”, never to be left out of a good case of stupid “me, too-ism”, has chimed in on that call–and don’t even get me started about how what happens when you examine the platform of the party that calls itself “Libertarian” through an actual “libertarian” viewpoint.

I’m hoping that this wake-up call will inspire Americans (of whatever basic personal/political philosophy) to approach politics in a new way. Having worked in both major parties, and having seen the “sausage-making” process for myself, I’ve decided that the best political philosophy is, to quote someone wiser than myself, “Put not your trust in princes.”

First corollary: All politicians are either entrenched princes, or potential princes, or wanna-be princes; their condition/state depends on how long they’ve held office, how much they’ve been corrupted by power politics, or if they were ever less than corrupt; good intentions don’t matter–we know what road is paved with that substance, don’t we?

Second corollary: All political parties are primarily organized to create princes of their own line, to put them into positions power and maintain them there, and to share in and direct their influence to the enrichment of the party and its aristocracy, always at the cost of the citizens who support the political system.

Third corollary: Even the best of politicians tell lies for a living until lying gets to the point of being compulsive. They’re like spies and fiction writers in that regard, but they’re not as honest about it as spies and writers are, not even to themselves … and lying to oneself is the ultimate corruption.

Fourth corollary: The age-old strategy of “divide and conquer” still works quite for our modern political aristocrats. The supposedly positive effect of “diversity” is a cover for the negative effect of “division”. Political correctness is a poison that politicians use in much the same way that farmers use targeted herbicides. If you disagree with a prince, you’re a weed.

Conclusion: No matter how much you agree with the stated positions of a political party, no matter how much you like or or are drawn to a politician’s public persona, you are mistaken if you believe that you can trust any political party or any politician any farther than you can throw a cheesecake under water.

Best shorthand description of this precis: A quote from Lord John Worfin/Dr. Emilio Lizzardo (see “Buckaroo Banzai”), “Character is what you do in the dark.”
In fact, our self-appointed princes have become so arrogant that they’re not even bothering to wait for the cover of darkness.

And as for trusting news organizations, pundits, op/ed writers, celebrities, radio talk show hosts, or even someone who posts a reply to a blog site (yes, talking about myself, here) not to lie to you in order to achieve political advantage, don’t trust anyone until you verify.

Before she died, I used to look forward to reading Molly Ivans’s columns. I’ve always found both her and Rush quite entertaining and valuable. I’d use Molly’s work (excellent op/ed writing) to balance Rush’s radio shows, and vice-versa. That worked because each of them was correct/factual/telling the truth half about the time. I could always trust Molly always to tell me pretty truthfully just how bad the Republicans were, and I could always trust Rush to tell pretty truthfully just how bad the Democrats were. Between the two of them, they provided a reality check by which I could triangulate (verify) an actual point of fact, or even a point of view. I miss Molly, but I can still triangulate by using her point of view. Too bad there isn’t anyone to match her in today’s crop of pundits on the left

In short, verify everything, create your own reality check, and put not your trust in princes, or any analogue of such.

Comment by susan h | 2009-10-19 11:43:20

Under the new Obama administration, race-baiting is a national sport. They should put a new word-phrase in Webster: Race-baiting = to call someone a racist soley because they oppose Mr. Obama or any of his policies; trying to make others think that someone is a racist in order for Mr. Obama to get power, retain power, or look as if poor Mr. Obama is being maligned in some way because of his color; a strategy, calling out what someone does, feels or thinks, without facts, because those who follow Obama cannot support his candidacy/policies except by making others feel guilt or shame, whether real or imagined, in order to obtain their support.

P.S. Earlier this year, Juan Williams wrote a beautiful article saying that Obama should be judged for what he does the same as every other president and not be given a “Pass” like so many wanted to do just because he is the first African American president. He was widely criticized by many for this stance, as at that point, everyone was walking on eggshells where Mr. Obama was concerned, afraid to “make him look bad”, or question anything he did or said.

Comment by Ani | 2009-10-19 14:20:57

Thank you for pointing this out, Susan.

While one would think it was neither brave nor outlandish for Juan Williams to ask that the President be judged solely on the merits, the fact that he was criticized just show what a senseless environment we are in. More enabling.

I watched the whole interview on youtube — for most of the segment, O’Reilley says the race card knocked out RL. Ballantine keeps saying it was not about race (because he knows the race card is maxed out). Instead, he says ‘Limbaugh is ‘polarizing and divisive’ — all true, by the way. They had all the ammo they needed to block RL without the race card.

But ‘Mr. Race’ can’t help himself. After saying it’s not about race, Ballantine drops his mask and makes the whole thing about race. He forgets he’s not on his slanted radio show and calls JW an Uncle Tom. Worse, he drags in the President with the ‘Magic Negro’ trivia.

As payback, Juan linked the White House to the Limbaugh dust-up, saying the campaign was orchestrated from the White House as part of Team Obama’s race war on dissenting opinion. Ouch!

Look at Obama’s numbers, 56% ‘favorable impression’ but 43% would vote to re-elect. That tells me people don’t blame Obama, but they think this whole ‘black President’ experiment is not working, perhaps because of race leeches like Ballantine.

This control freak Anita Dunn thinks Fox is the problem. She needs to stop worrying about Fox and start worrying about people like Ballantine and Jimmy Carter.
