Life Has A Way…

Of letting you know when it is time to be still and just be. I say this not just from being a bit bleary eyed after staying up late to watch my beloved Yankees. No, I got up Sunday morning as always, thinking about what I was going to write today, then I walked outside. This is what I saw:

It just blew me away. So, I took my coffee, went and sat on the end of the dock, and looked out at this beautiful view. The wind was blowing in from the marsh, ruffling my hair, and rustling the trees behind me. There was nothing to be done for it but to close my eyes and let the breeze wash over me, smelling that beautiful combination of ocean and marshland. Acorns would drop from the live oak tree overhanging the dock, where they would hit the dock, then bounce into the marsh. Fish jumped up into the air, their silvery bodies catching the rising sunlight, then, *PLOP* back into the water they would go. Birds are singing all around me, and squirrels are chattering away. The snowy white egrets were flying overhead, and off in the distance, I could hear the great blue herons. Unbelievably beautiful, majestic birds they are, but possessors of a grating call - I guess that was the universe’s way of keeping things balanced.

As I looked over the marshland, the grasses taking on their Fall golden hue, I noticed a couple of blades of marsh grass standing tall and straight, along with the ripples in the water from the wind:

How cute are they stretching up to meet the sun? They looked like they were reaching up to catch the first glimpse.

And then, I turned to go back into the home, the air a little cool at 65 degrees (hey - that’s cold for us), and looked up at the house my partner and I long dreamed about building, a dream that beacme reality 3 12 years ago. This is my home, looking back from the dock:

Waiting inside was my espresso machine, ready for me to make another cappuccino to have while looking out at this beautiful view. On this day, thanking the universe for this beautiful marshland, and the place I call home, was what Life had in mind for me. I was all too willing to oblige…

What a great picture. I saved it on my computer. What state is this? (I’m sure you’ve said in the past, but I can’t remember!)

Wow, that’s really beautiful Amy. I woke up this morning and saw the office building across from me.

Thanks, J - and we missed you this weekend!

And, um, uh - I hope it’s a nice office building…
At least it’s in NYC, right? So there’s that…

Georgia, of course! C’mon over for a cappuccino (or latte, or tea, or hot chocolate - whatever it is you drink)! :-D

Wow…….. so lovely! Can I visit! :)

How beautiful! Your house is lovely, and oh to have that scenery to look at and be a part of. That is my dream - to live on land in a rural area so I can have lots of animals and do horse rescue. My husband wants to do dachshund rescue! How’s that for a combo?

Your house looks just the right size, too. Where I live NW of Denver, they build monstrocities on postage stamp size lots. I want small house, big land.

As my knees (and other joints) have continued to decline, we have downsized our homes. So now, we have this one - abt 1,800 sf - perfect for two people, and we have a guest room, too. :-)

I don’t get the whole zero-lot line thing. I do NOT want to spend that kind of money on a house, and then have my neighbors right on top of me. Makes no sense to me!

That sounds like a FUN combo!! You know how much I love the horses, and dachshunds are SO cute. I do hope your dream is fulfilled, carr50!

“I do hope your dream is fulfilled, carr50!”

Thank you, we are working on it, however, my husband has been out of work for almost 2 years now, so, just trying to keep up and not completely raid the retirement funds.

My husband grew up on a farm in southern Illinois and believes “if you can see your neighbors, they’re too close”. He is really looking forward to moving to some land!

LOL - I can really appreciate his POV. I grew up where my great-grandfather had his dairy farm, and watched a huge shopping mall get built on one of his old pastures. Where once there were cows ended up being a parking lot, a la Joni Mitchell’s song…After having lived in several big cities, I was all too ready to have the space I had when I was a kid.

Best of luck to you and your husband!

I am driving down to Florida for Thanksgiving by “Le chemin des ecoliers” to find a warmer spot I would relocate to. NJ is really too COLD. I want to be a half-back.

Can I visit?….

Simply beautiful. So which room is the Yankee viewing room? To the right or left of the back door? Tonight I will picture you in your peaceful haven watching our guys try to wrap up this Series. Have yourself another espresso in preparation for another late night.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-11-02 14:35:35

Thanks, AL! The Yankee viewing area is to the left of the door (to the right is the dining room and aforementioned cappuccino machine).

And YEAH, another espresso will be in order! :-) Hopefully, it will be a celebratory espresso!

Thanks, Tricia! I appreciate it!

I woke up to warm temps and finally full sun after a month of cold, rainy weather.
The sun was sparkling on the lake like diamonds from my bedroom french doors. I just let it be this weekend and soaked in the sun, and the sounds of nature. Magical.

I too thought how wonderful to live in this place by the water, finally realized my dream!

Oh, layla, that sounds just so lovely! I can see it all. So glad you were able to realize your dream!

Amy, it takes my breath away! :-) And, yes, you are so right. Life just has a way of making you stop. look. listen. breathe.

Those are the moments that remind us to be grateful for our blessings.

Beautiful, Amy, thanks so much for sharing it. I loved it.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-11-02 17:44:58

Thanks, mountainaires! And thank heavens for it, you know?

I tell you, living here really helped during the most difficult times of the election - huh, I guess that was most of it (the highlights, obviously, all of Hillary’s big wins). Being able to go outside, breathe deeply, watch the birds soaring, and sometimes walking near the house (if you haven’t seen a great egret up close, they are TALL, maybe 4 ft? They like to hunt for the little lizards around here), listening to the sounds of the marsh, all of that soothed my soul.

It does so now, too.

FoxyLady, glad you could join me!

Such a beautiful place! Even without the pix I could imagine it from your wonderful descriptions. It sounds like paradise. I’m grateful you shared it with us. Thanks!

You mentioned how it helped when you had to deal with last year’s insanity. Well, I’d like to remind everyone that we’ve survived a year that I personally never thought I could. In spite of what happened we haven’t lost our ability to see the light at the end of that Dem tunnel.

Thank you, Amy.
That photo is absolutely beautiful.
So calming.
So quiet.
Feels like I’m there.
You have a lot to be grateful for….

I meant to look at this all day and just got a chance now. This is wonderful. You are blessed!

Thanks for the pics RRR Amy! I can hear the soft gush of pluff mud as I venture out for oysters, I smell the sulfur, and I can see the slight grey tuft of fur on the back of a racoon asleep in the crown of a palmetto. I can also hear the resonance of the drink buying bell at the Paris Island officers club, and the pleasing thwack of a golf ball on the sweet spot of a four iron at Sea Pines. And I can taste a tall cool Bloody Maria while swinging in a hammock on Pawleys Is.

Hey RRR Amy, does it sound like I’m familiar with your neighborhood?
