It’s Been a [BLANK] Year

webnytimes-word_edited-1

It’s been exactly a year since Barack Obama was elected President. In only one word, describe how you feel today.

A whole year? In some ways it seems like forever, I guess because I have been waiting for this Democratic Congress and President to show they really care for us rather than only those who have far more than they would ever need. In other ways it seems like yesterday for the same reason—too little has been done, too few promises kept.

The
New York Times
has given us all an opportunity to characterize in a single word how we are feeling about the election one year later. (I bet you can guess what one I selected!)

Go in and make our little voices heard–lots of little voices are about all we have to work with. There is only a small window of time to participate here. (I suggest selecting one from their list as these are more likely to show up in the final talley.)

Regardless of whether you get into the NY Times, what’s YOUR word?

This YEAR has been a WAKE UP CALL!

Like a SHOT of Expresso on an EMPTY stomach!

ps. Dear Laura, I’d like to apologize to you for all of the bad things I have said about your husband! I had no idea it could be this much worse. And YOU are a class act.

Comment by Mary | 2009-11-06 01:25:38

I agree, one thing is apparent, Laura is a lady - and made George a better man — she was good for America, all of us.

Depressed.

Bush= Doesn’t know why he started a war.
Obama = Doesn’t know how to end a war.

Two faces of the same coin.

exactly waht I was thinking. VINDICATED.

Or if I can’t have that work, then — Validated.

I knew from the get-go there was nothing to Obama. And I was right.

Comment by Hillary or Bust | 2009-11-04 17:54:19

I also feel vindicated.

But for the NY Times, I chose “disgusted” as there’s no way to explain how or why I feel vindicated.

Comment by Lana | 2009-11-04 20:41:00

I’ll go with vindicated-ish. I knew what we were getting, but I want to see a whole lot more waking up from the KADs in this country.

I choose, “Heavy” year.

Obama’s new word for not accomplishing anything is that he is “weighing” his options. Why hasn’t Obama filled all these job opennings? He’s “weighing” his options. Why hasn’t Obama replied on McChrystals request? “He’s weighing” his options.

Why is obama losing weight? Because he just keeps adding more weight on to his plate and not accomplshing getting a thing off of it.

And yes, we feel the weight of Obama’s heavy weighing.

Times are Heavy as we wait Obama’s weighing.

We will all become alcoholics if “weighing” becomes the new word.

Comment by Mary | 2009-11-06 01:29:54

Losing weight? No, it something else… but then, there are no medical records, only a letter from his doctor saying ‘he’s ok to run for Pres’ — where are the records? smoke & mirrors

Comment by jbjd | 2009-11-04 14:28:20

Challenging…

…the D’s submission of BO’s name to state election officials to print on the general election ballot; and voters to understand the fraud - eliminating the floor roll call vote at the Convention to bury the votes from vote binding states - that got him there.

I am still challenging the voters to confront this fraud.

It has to be “vindicated”. And also “angry”

I had little to no expectation that Obama had what it takes to do a good job, and I knew he was lying all along, so I can’t feel “betrayed”.

“Angry” because we were so close to having so much more with Hillary.

Comment by Katmoon | 2009-11-04 15:52:03

Weary (as in weary over worry of our soldiers).

Obamaphile-ophobic- as in having an aversion to over zealous O supporters.

Stuck (as in the Middle with you, waiting for another 3 years to pass, and knowing we had better get the balance back in the political system, where the people have a voice again.)

Unemployed (so happy I went to college this late in life)

Invisible (as in a woman over 50)

Educated (I now unfortunately know what the term “tea-bagging” means)

Comment by Lana | 2009-11-04 20:57:22

Great choices, Katmoon. Well done. And I, too, could have gone the rest of my lifetime without knowing what tea-bagging was! That’s just another reason it was a loss-of-innocence year for me. Lost my faith that the election process would work the way it should, that people would do the right thing, that nobody could really cheat their way into the White House, that my party was the one that was compassionate, that Ds had respect for women, that my voice mattered, that I could reason with bots. The list goes on, but I’m sure you understand.

Comment by TeakWoodKite | 2009-11-04 18:06:53

latin for “hidden, concealed”, Like Yodi on the planet Dagobah.

In the Star Wars storyline, after the near-extermination of the Jedi and his subsequent failure to defeat Darth Sidious and save the Republic, a devastated Jedi Master Yoda went into voluntary exile on Dagobah. Here, Yoda lived near a cave strong with the dark side of the Force which balanced out his light side and kept him from detection by Emperor Palpatine.

I used that word on the banner that we had on our Rugby team’s homecoming float (A big red truck with a keg on board) when our football team was going to play the Citadel Bulldogs. “Defenestrate The Dogs” it read, and it caused much head scratching from the crowd. They didn’t know whether to be offended or to feign understanding. That was 30 years ago.

I put “disgusted” on the NYT page.

I was reading about Obummer’s half-brother this morning. Now HE is the sort of person that one could vote for..seriously. Here are his academic creds..described amusingly by the Post as “as lofty as his brother’s”…

Ndesandjo, who is a U.S. citizen, also has an academic pedigree as lofty as his half-brother’s, with bachelor’s degrees in physics and math from Brown University, a master’s degree in physics from Stanford and an MBA from Emory. He is also an accomplished pianist, does Chinese calligraphy and he has just finished reading the Chinese epic “The Dream of Red Mansions” — in Mandarin.

Now those degrees look to me to be a lot more than Obummer ever managed to do in school. And I bet his brother didn’t get the help he did either. And this is what he has been doing with his life..MUCH more than “community organizer”.

After working in telecommunications and marketing in the United States and then losing his job, he relocated to China just after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. In Shenzhen, the booming city bordering Hong Kong in southern China, he began teaching English, giving piano lessons, learning Chinese and dedicating himself to helping orphans and underprivileged children –

Too bad he isn’t a natural born citizen…he would have made a better president than his half-brother. Actually seems to give a damn about someone other than himself. Here is the story link.

no one seems to be discussing the fact that this election only covers the

Owens will have to run for this seat again in 2010, and I am not alone in hoping Hoffman will remain on board.
