My state has pretty high unemployment – close to 12%. Hence the joy abt Boening coming here.

Docelder, I was thinking abt that this morning, too. Over HALF A MILLION new claims in one week is pretty significant.

That meeting has been canceled now by both Clinton and Bush. They were not happy abt the way it was being promoted. Apparently, the publicity was supposed to be run by both of them, and it wasn’t. It wasn’t supposed to be a “debate,” as it turns out.

I admit, I am disappointed. I would have loved to see Bush square off against Bill Clinton!!

well, and even the stated figures are not real figures: small businesses do not have to pay unemployment: all those people let go from small businesses that don’t pay unemployment aren’t included in these figures.

I share your concerns. I saw a map a couple of days ago that had many states already at 10% and higher unemployment.
The biggest issue is that many of these jobs are gone forever.
Wherever we are going, we are moving fast!

We are headed for a “couch money” economy it looks like. But onto the fun stuff… When is the next trip to Copenhagen? I wonder what the Obama’s will be wearing? Which celebrities will fly with Obama to the climate change summit? I nominate Bono, because he is not a rapper… you know diversity and all that. We don’t need no stinkin’ jobs. Jobs are for people who don’t have an entertaining President. Besides if everybody was working, who would watch the press conferences?

The job numbers just came out and it was painted as improving because there were just 511K people becoming unemployed last week. 511K is about the population of Atlanta. But then on thinking about it… in Atlanta there aren’t 511K employed persons. A good part of the population is school kids, retired people etc. So, I am wondering what this number is really like? If 511K people lost their jobs last week… How big a city would that really effectively translate into? 1M, 1.5M… It is probably 2-3 times higher than the 511K figure. For how many weeks has this been going on while the Presidents men and women spend “stimulus” money on field mice type of projects. Something has to give, because this can’t go on much longer… can it?

The “Blame Czar” would have been perfect for Rev. Wright…too bad about the spat with BO!
The debate mentioned upthread between Bush and Clinton has been canceled by Bill.
It was supposed to be a respectful discussion, much like those of the past among former Presidents.
I’m also concerned that Clinton does not appear as vital and alert now. He looked rather vague at the appearance with Corzine.

Why would Clinton want to debate Bush? Bush already is painted the fool by the media and the President’s machine. There is nothing to gain for Clinton. All that will happen is it will bring new life to the discussion of the Clinton closet.

In his more self-regarding moments, such as his speech to the United Nations, he gives the strong impression that the “long years of drift” began in 1776.

That is the overwhelming tone to this man’s Presidency. He is the first U.S. President whose speeches could have been written by the speech writers of Chavez or Ajad. But wait, those guys probably write their own material. But heck, he is ever so elegant while he tours the world as an anti-American idol and beats us down for being born Americans. What did we ever do to deserve this? Ask the President. No, ask his speech writer. Our President is made of anarchist putty.
