Regrets, Anybody? Oh, Just a Few …

Ani e-mailed this Politico story to our NoQuarter writers’ mailing list: “Poll: Clinton approval soars [while Obama's sink].” Eastan McNeal wrote back, suggesting that we post this poll:
We have TWO more polls for you to take below. And I’ve posted a segue on the SEXISM that is alive and well in this country.
By the way, to his suggestion about the poll, Eastan added, “I think we could create a new phrase: Revisionist Opinion Polling. Because I bet Hillary would win.” Uh, yeah:
A new poll of avid news watchers shows that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has a much higher approval rating than the man she once campaigned against and now works for, President Barack Obama.
In the poll of 800 registered voters who are self-identified “news watchers,” Clinton had a 75 percent approval rating and a 21 percent disapproval rating overall. Obama, in contrast, had a 51 percent approval and a 45 percent disapproval rating. …
So, we couple more polls for you to take:
Be sure to explain your votes in the Comments section:
THIS next section of the Politico story is fascinating:
Clarus president Ron Faucheux said one reason for Clinton’s high poll numbers is her high approval among Republicans – numbers he said position her well to run for president again in the future, if she chooses. Clinton had 96 percent approval among Democrats, a healthy 57 percent approval among Republicans, and 65 percent approval among Independents. Obama was nearly as popular among Democrats – 93 percent – but his numbers among Republicans and Independents fell off dramatically, at 19 percent and 33 percent respectively.
Clinton’s Republican numbers are striking, given how intensely disliked she has been in the past among GOP voters. In fact, part of Obama’s appeal to Democratic primary voters in 2008 was that he was more likely to be able to bridge the partisan divide than Clinton, who was by then a well-known figure dating to her time as first lady in the 1990s. …
The sad reality, of course, is that had Hillary Clinton been elected President, as she should have been because she actually won the Democratic primary, the Republicans would have been all over her at every opportunity, as would the MSM which has never treated either Clinton fairly.
Still, this surge in her popularity makes me feel even more confident about my somewhat fanciful desire that Hillary run for president at the next opportunity. The past impediments she faced, including the damage done by a constant onslaught of the right-wing and MSM media, have dissipated.
However, it must be noted, not all has been overcome. Just the other day, I saw an ad at Drudge Report for the Hillary nut cracker.
I tried posting a pre-configured Amazon search widget here a few months ago. I inserted “Hillary Clinton” as a sample search term. Guess what product showed up first? Not her books, not the books by other authors. Yup. It was the Hillary nut cracker.
18,000,000 cracks in the glass ceiling aside, Hillary would still face a daunting challenge if she became a candidate again.
Foremost among the challenges is that sexism is alive and well in this country. I was at Costco with a neighbor last week. He and I browsed the book section, and looked at the new Sarah Palin book. My neighbor made it clear that he really likes Sarah. So I asked him the inevitable question, “Would you support Sarah Palin for president?” He replied, “No.” Why, I asked. “Because she’s a woman.” Then, he added, “But she’s hot.” (I wanted to scream, “You sexist pig neanderthal,” but managed to contain myself.)
OF NOTE: The Politico story has much more on how news junkies view ALL the members of Obama’s cabinet.
