If these old boys want to get into the gambling business, they might look at Harrah's, MGM-Mirage and Las Vegas Sands Corp, all of whose stock is pretty cheap right now.

Adelson could REALLY use a bail-out!

Thanks for the essay, Larry. Another depressing piece of evidence of the Great Con, soon to be a movie!

I'd like to know what the "original" Geithner plan was, the one he stalled on in January, took back to the drawing room to rework and tweak because "it was too risky to the American taxpayer." Must have been a beaut!

Creative accounting is just another way of saying "cooking the books." This is such an outrageous scam, bundled up with a pretty bow. I can not believe that the Govenment gave a nod to these "new accounting rules." It's a wink, wink game. The only difference is that now they're playing in broad daylight, instead of the shadows.

Geithner and the whole crew need to be fired! And when is anyone going to stand up to these thieves?

I recently went to Las Vegas for a weekend. It seemed there was a scam artist around every corner. This banking situation has the same feel to it. The financiers have been playing fast and loose with other people's money for so long, they don't seem to know any other way of doing business, and it seems they aren't ready to quit. In fact, it seems they need to be put on a 12-step program for gambling addiction.

i have never heard such high falutin' three-card-monte banter in my life. In my opinion, the street husters with their battered deck of cards spread out on an overturned milk crate, sound a lot better than the people you quoted here.

A hustle is a hustle. I don't believe a word that "analysts" write. It's their job to make things lookd like "opportunities" instead of disasters.

I'll trust a street hustler over an analyst any day. At least the street hustler won't take my retirement savings. All he can do is take whatever money I have in my coat pocket.

That was a good article, LD, thanks.

<em>"there was a constant need for new players with new money to keep the game alive."</em>

Didn't I read somewhere yesterday that the Feds took in 30% less in revenues in March? Maybe I'm remembering the report erroneously, but the combination of more money going out the door and less money coming in the door is a bad sign, isn't it? ;-)

The constant revisions, cronyism and mind-boggling recklessness of all of these plans are <strong>increasing</strong> the doubts and anxieties of taxpayers. TARP is now revised to include insurers. The Congressional Oversight Panel on TARP--Elizabeth Warren--says Treasury's plan may not be the best way to get our financial house in order. And, now, Treasury is revising PPIP due to low participation.

Does anyone know what they're going up there in DC? I have serious doubts about these people.
