They use a lot of the ransom money to buy more machine guns and fast boats for the next strikes. The kids leaving the US are said to be leaving for Jihad - in their minds, to wage battle for their god, not for personal riches. Then the family can demand by what actions Obama acted or failed to act. This can be the shot across Obama's bow, that even he will not be able to ignore or pass away. Up north on the coast, the pirates have created a thriving economy. They drive big cars; have built homes along the coast; others have followed and set up small businesses. He said women swarm to the sea ports hoping to marry a pirate (how romantic). They are not rag tag operators.
