The official said Capt. Richard Phillips is uninjured and in good condition, and that three of the four pirates were killed. The fourth pirate is in custody. Phillips was taken aboard the USS Bainbridge, a nearby naval warship.

Earlier Sunday afternoon Maersk Line Limited, owner of the Maersk Alabama, said the U.S. Navy informed the company that it had sighted Phillips in a lifeboat where pirates are holding him.

Phillips was spotted another time earlier in the day, the Navy said.

A man who answered the door at Phillips’ home in Underhill, Vermont, told CNN’s Stephanie Elam that the family has known the news for hours. He said details would have to come from Virginia, apparently referring to the home base of Maersk Line Limited, based in Norfolk, which owns the ship.

Capt. Phillips jumped overboard again and that’s when the Navy Seals moved in to rescue him. What a brave man! The Navy Seals are the best.

Great news. Well this is interesting. The Pirates promise that if the Americans kill any of the ones holding the Captain, they will kill the other hostages from 15 other nations.

If the pirates kill the other hostages, the Navy should stand off-shore and reduce that pirate area to small pieces. Remove their infrastructure, sink their boats and set fire to the whole mess. That will keep them from continuing to take hostages and pirate ships. And before you start in about “civilian casualties” let me remind you that the people who are there are there, apart from the hostages, by their own choice. Apparently, women have been flocking to the area to marry up with a pirate. Since the pirates make such a good living and all. So anyone who is there is in with them and should share in their fate.

He remains a politician with all the warts characteristic of politicians,just maybe a few less. If you want to criticize him for policy, go ahead. There is room for that. There have been times when his administration has suggested ill conceived changes, such as the changes suggested in dealing witn veterans’ insurance. What I saw was an administration that initiated dialogue and when confronted with appropriate evidence that the suggestion was bad, backed off of it. I am not happy about the claim that the administration is shielded from law suit. What will happen with that remains to be seen. Having said that, I like it immensely that he changed the Bush policy on secrecy. I like it A LOT that our government is no longer being directed by religion instead of science. I have no idea how he is going to get our troops out of the quagmire that is Iraq and we cannot win a war with armed forces in Afghanistan. But going weird over a slip of the tongue and using THAT as a reason to express hatred for a President qualifies for my friend’s little statement: “These people are idiots. They have always been idiots. If they work hard and study diligently, they may, someday, reach the state of being imbeciles. They will, however, never be able to reach the exalted state of being regarded as morons.”
