The Plan to Swift-Boat Obama

Even as Democratic bigwigs Pelosi, Kerry, Leahy, and others try to force Hillary out of the race before 10 states have voted and Michigan and Florida remain uncounted, shadowy Republican operatives and 527 groups are putting their finishing touches on plans to destroy Obama:

The Boston Globe reports that these operatives

are busy arming for the general election, in a year that could see record activity by such outside entities. They are plotting strategy, crafting ad campaigns, and raising millions in “soft money” – largely unrestricted contributions from wealthy individuals, corporations, and labor unions…

One Republican strategist familiar with the plans said Republicans expect Senator Barack Obama, who leads rival Hillary Clinton in the Democratic race, to be their opponent and have begun assembling material to turn voters against him. “They’re beginning to put the book together on Obama,” said the strategist, who discussed the effort on condition of anonymity.

Many of these operatives honed their skills with the 527 Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT), a group which ran the slanderous but effective campaign against Senator John F. Kerry, which many credit with derailing his campaign.

John Kerry’s participation in protests against the Vietnam War was small potatoes next to the anti-American, anti-white rants of Obama’s mentor of 20 years, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. These racially charged sermons give the Republicans a gift beyond their wildest dreams, and the damage may have already been done.

Jerome Armstrong already sees the Reverend Wright fallout having fatally wounded Obama in the swing state of Missouri:

In a month, a 1 point McCain lead over Clinton is now 9, and a lead of 2 by McCain over Obama has become 15 percent. It gets worse in MO. McCain’s favorable/unfavorable rating is at 59/40. If McCain already has MO locked up by April, we are in deep trouble.

Obama’s strength in the caucuses has been his ability to attract moderates, independents and a few Republicans. John McCain has spent months shoring up his support with the conservative base of the Republican Party and he is now reaching out to moderates, the very group who will decide this election and who are most offended by Reverend Wright’s sermons.

It’s easy to imagine the Republicans and their 527 groups carpet bombing the electorate in swing states with blistering ads of the Reverend Wright’s rants juxtaposed with a smiling Obama, while disgruntled supporters of Hillary reluctantly pull lever for Obama or simply stay home. It’s important to remember that John Kerry, after the SBVT were finished with him, won the state of Pennsylvania by less that 2% points, and he only won 12 out of 67 counties. Pennsylvania is a must-win for Democrats. John McCain must be feeling very good right now.

The Democratic leaders who are trying short-circuit the nominating process should review the electoral map and decide if a tsunami of red is really the best outcome for the Party and their own jobs. The one thing that is for certain is that the Republican 527s are going to do their best to make sure that happens, particularly if Obama is the nominee. And they already have their battle plans drafted.

If Clinton loses the nomination without Florida and Michigan being resolved, I will gladly contribute to these 527′s!

Republicans are totally lacking in morals and values. They would swift-boat ANY Democrat which is why it is imperative that we stay united.

  • Melissa

We know and have known for quite some time that Obama is unelectable. Why does the DNC not see this???? Or rather, why will they not admit it?

  • scott

If Obama gets the nomination let him take the heat then write Hillary Clinton in on the ballot.

One presumes Pelosi, Kerry and Leahy reads these same articles or at least to expect this swift boating–what is up with them? Are they so out of touch or do they think Obama can endure what Kerry couldn’t?

An Obama supporter said “our side has their own electoral college metric that
makes it possible for him to win?” What do you think this means?

  • yikes

If you must write in Hillary then so be it. It’s not productive, but it’s a whole lot better than voting for a misogynist like John McCain like some have threatened. If I were to write someone in I would choose someone like Feingold or Boxer.

  • Mike Howell

    A McCain Presidency.

  • barbh

Has the thought occurred to anyone that maybe they don’t WANT or care if Obama wins the GE if he is the nominee. They think he will drive up voter turn out and protect and enlarge the overall Dem standing.

Problem with that, in Texas a lot of the BO voters didn’t vote downticket, just voted for Obama.

  • Deke

Thats the hole point to the Clinton campaign. We all know everything about them they have been getting this kind of scrutiny for 20 years and they still win elections.

  • Deke

When the republicans get finished sliming Obama the youth vote will leave him and go on to the next fad.

  • Strawberrybitch

I said it before and I’ll say it again, my republican female family members will vote for Hillary, they will never vote for Obama. I would have voted for Obama, if his minions had not attacked me, and called me a racist when all I asked was “No dem on dem violence” or after we got booed at our own Democratic caucus.

  • OldCoastie

Obama supporters BELIEVE that Obama will win the general.

    I think they are delusional.

  • yikes

Ross Perot was a big factor in both presidential runs. I don’t think that 20 years of scrutiny is necessarily a benefit, I wouldn’t particularly relish a rehash of Monica in the media. I’ve also seen articles about the slew of research and preparations the Republicans completed to take Hillary down.

These Republicans are creeps without scruples. They will do anything to keep control.

  • yttik

I think about that too, barbh. I look at what the democrats are doing and I’m completely baffled. Are they deliberately trying to loose the general election? After a while you start to wonder.

  • yttik

He could win the general election….if Republicans are willing to just lay down and die so it can happen.

Delusional is right. Today someone informed me that Republicans hate McCain so much they will all be voting for Obama in the general if he’s nominated. So that’s how he’s going to win. Ahhh..

I don’t know where this party thinks it’s going, but somebody stop the ride, I want off!

  • jes

It’s double-speak and means they’re full of BS.

  • beachnan

The Wright “situation”, is not going away. Republicans, and Independents are not going to give Obama’s pastor a “free pass”, like the Dems did. Add to that, a pissed off group of Democrats, if Florida and Michigan are not dealt with in a fair manner, and you have “big” trouble in the fall for the Dems, if Obama is the candidate.

  • Susan

I think it’s going to be very ugly. The right leaning radio shows in my area have been connecting the Wright controversy to the controversial Michelle Obama remarks for a while, blaming him for giving her the “for the first time in her adult life she’s proud of her country” and the “America has a hole in it’s soul” comments – if you thought they had alot to say about Theresa Kerry, look out. Also, I’ve noticed over the past few days that even CNN and the Obama-infatuated MSNBC have been throwing around the words “arrogant” and “aloof” – two of the many problems that sank Kerry (no pun intended).

  • Hope

    Yikes,

You can forget it. As a lifelong Democrat, if Hillary doesn’t get the nomination, I will not support Obama. I’d rather sit out the next four years then see him in office. PERIOD! And we don’t have to stick together anymore because the Democratic Party has made its intentions perfectly clear by lambasting Hillary over the coals, thereby insulting and hurting her supporters. Why then stick together? For a party that doesn’t respect and honour part of its membership?

  • street_parade

Yikes, you must understand they many of us view Obama as sexist (at least) and possibly even misogynist. So your argument on McCain is not going to hold much water.

I actually voted for Obama in the California primary, not because I ever drank the Kool-Aide – I lived in Chicago for 8 years and KNEW that anybody that came out of that political sewer was FAR from a “transformative” candidate – but because I bought into the ‘electability’ meme. I will say that on the night of Super Tuesday, Clinton’s supposed lack of electability took a serious blow because of her strong performance in the states a Dem HAS to win.

But in the time since I have gone from ‘okay with Obama’ to unable to vote for him. The race-baiting, barely contained sexism of his (pretty abhorrent) followers and Chicago-style politics was the start — but Rev. Wright and FL/MI were the final nails in the coffin.

I knew the minute I saw the video that any chance BO had in the GE died right there. Clinton is too concerned about being called racist/devisive & the MSM too much in the tank (for the moment) to keep it on the front page. The Rethugs suffer from no such pangs of conscience — the commercials write themselves. “The chickens come home to roost” and the planes will be hitting the towers. FDNY firefighters in the rubble, ‘have you seen this person’ pictures littering the street.

Remember these people take disabled war heroes and morph them into Osama Bin Laden — don’t believe me, ask Max Cleland. BO has more baggage than they could have ever DREAMED of and THEY don’t CARE if you call them racist.

I want a Dem for President, and though the fight will be tough for Clinton she has a shot — Obama has none. His chances ended when he sat in that pew for 20 years — the Republicans will not let you, me or anyone forget that he did.

  • Hope

Yes Mary Joe they are COMPLETELY out of touch, but I suppose there is more to it then we will ever know.

  • bert

I would vote for Cynthia McKinney. I can vote for a black woman who is anti war. If Hillary is not the nominee I cannot vote for McCain.
After all Obama has pulled I doubt I could vote for Obama. Writing Hillary in is an option. But unless Hillary is the nominee I fear McCain is the next President elect. It would be a tough campaign for Hillary before Wright. But looks like he is tearing the entire party down. What a mess Obama has made of a sure win for Dems in ’08. If Obama is the nominee the new slogan for the dem party should be “Nominating the Unelectable since 1840.”

  • yikes

I’m sorry that you feel that way, but I hope that you do not vote for McCain. He is a horrible misogynist with a temper who clearly has no understanding of the situation in Iraq. It would be very dangerous to have him as a president.

  • bert

That’s becasue they were Republicans and only wanted to vote for Obama. By GE time they will be back to being R’s.

  • Andy

An Obama supporter said “our side has their own electoral college metric that
makes it possible for him to win?” What do you think this means?

    Baloney

  • jwrjr

Obama has no chance in the general election, and the Obama supporters are so deluded that they cannot see this. Even if the repubs would restrict themselves to the truth (When is the last time they have done that?) there are enough skeletons in Obama’s closet to make him unelectable. At least Clinton has been “investigated” enough since 1991 that anything new the repubs come out with will obvoiusly be a lie.

  • bert

That’s because they were probably Republican Democrats for a day and just voted for Obama.

  • flyarm

If Florida and Mi are not counted for the nominee, i will be voting by write in for Mickey Mouse..as a protest vote..since i live and vote in a disney state..and Dean and Brazile and Obama have made this election and nomination nothing but a fake illusion.

It will be Mickey Mouse 08 for me!!

I am so over these damn cheats!

  • Deke

Yikes get your history correct Perot was no factor in 1996. Hillary won 2 state wide elections easily with the first one agains a very strong candidate Rick Lazelo. Dying allegence to a party is a remenant of the old USSR. The democratic party has had a number of candidates who did not deserve our support, Elliot Spitzer, William Jefferson, to a name a few. When a party systematically slimes one of their own particularily when that person is a former first lady and respect senator who has aided and raised a great deal of money for that party and their candidates it doesn’t deserve our support.

  • simon

Clinton is too concerned about being called racist/devisive

It is, ultimately bad strategy for the republicans to campaign this way.

Clinton is doing the right thing, in the better interests of the country, and , if she were to be elected, in the better interests of her Presidency.

Any fight with Obama on this issue, at this time, would be taking the bait, and ultimately internecine.

Think of Israel, and Palestine, when Israel went to violence at the exclusion of diplomacy, it lost.

    Same with the neocons.

It’s up to the people of this country, and the powers that be, to demand change, and fairness, integrity, rule of law. A fair press, which is germane to America’s health, would have knocked out Obama months ago. The press needs to be fixed, and the corporations, and the people need to demand it. Clinton alone cannot do it, by attacking Obama.

GE could just as easily say “we will not support any candidate who acts against the US in the manner Obama does. But they don’t, because they want the money, the access, and they’re driven by fear. And in the end, they’ll destroy themselves anyway. They all want to be Rezko, their boy in the Oval Office.

And if those stupid wall street types keep putting a gun to their head, so be it, they won’t take the rest of us down with them.

  • pm317

Obama has also shot himself in the foot about FL and MI. I just can’t imagine how he will win those states in the GE given his current stance (Obama supporters, don’t given me that bs about rules). In fact, it feels like a third world country where they are afraid to count votes because they fear they may not win — heck, Pakistan perhaps had a better election this time around throwing Musharaff out. His stance on those two states must disqualify him from further consideration now.

I saw a video clip of Oprah with Eckart(?) Tolle discussing Wright and their spin is: that the black race experiences tremendous collective pain because of their past and the pastor was only reflecting that pain (paraphrasing). This spin will work with latte liberals but the republicans don’t give a hoot. Like I heard from Pat Buchanan once they are expecting gratitude from the AA community for all the governmental laws and programs and they won’t be driven to guilt. They won’t fall for all the usual race-baiting shenanigans either. And they also want to win — it is all about power. If we are sending Obama to GE, we have a badly damaged candidate — mostly with self-inflicted woes, Wright and FL and MI. We democrats know how to lose (but you know what, I am not going to be party to losing here this time — we’re warned in 2000 and 2004 and we are repeating the same mistakes) — I am leaving the party the day he becomes the nominee.

the obamanuts think that we’ll just go along, because he’s a dem. they’re kidding themselves. not only will the repubs and indies not vote for him, but many dems won’t either. and that’s before the 527s even get started.

obama and his crowd will scream “swiftboat.” i beg to differ. it’s not swiftboating to inform people of the truth, such as the wright business. obama has had such a free ride, with the media conspiring to hide the truth, that he thinks revealing the truth is somehow unfair. he’s wrong.

i see so many posts, here and elsewhere, basically saying go along with obama, we can’t have mccain. sorry, i’d much rather have mccain. i’d vote for the dead nixon (dick or pat) before i’d vote for obama. and i’ll vote for mccain to do my part to ensure that obama isn’t elected.

obama frightens the dickens out of me. i think civil liberties will be seriously endangered if he wins. we’ve already seen any criticism be termed racist. we’ve already seen the media be turned into an obama propaganda machine. we’ve already seen pro-hillary bloggers be banished from the net. it will only get worse.

orwell got it right, just got the year wrong.

  • simon

He is a horrible misogynist with a temper who clearly has no understanding of the situation in Iraq. It would be very dangerous to have him as a president.

How is he different from Obama, then?

Business, and money people don’t often know what they’re doing, when they put these incompetents in, it doesn’t quite work out they way they hoped.

Put Bush in office, and admire Republican tactics?

But Bush lost an asymmetric war in less than seven years, and this affected Wall Street, too, the fallout hasn’t begun to start, despite what they think they see.

So, why was it a good idea for rich people to support sub par candidates, concentrating the media in the hands of the wealthy, allowing all these dirty tricks?

You put in an unpatriotic moron, and you give someone else control, and don’t mean the people who put him there.

  • simon

It’s like a childish, magical thinking, “despite these fatal flaws, it will all work out, I will ignore the reality, and something will happen, people will come around, they’re SICK of republicans, right? So,it will work out…”

Like Cheney and Bush in Iraq, they really thought they could take control, all the year zero, Straussian, Pinochet crap would work, throwing the culture into chaos, and then taking what they wanted, while the population struggled to survive.

Must of looked great on paper.

But the neocons only project intellect.

    heh.

Kennedy said people have to want freedom, no one can do it for them.

That goes for Americans, as well as Iraqis.

We need a functioning press, and better laws about who can access elections.

When the DNC — Dean & DB decided to strip Fl an MI of their votes — the damage was done to the Democratic Party.

Obama has run one of the most deliberately sexist campaigns in memory.

Yes Obama will be Swift Boated — they don’t have to make up anything.

That church Obama went to and the videos of Rev. Wright will yield plenty — and then there’s that fancy house that Obama and Mrs. Obama bought. She is as dirty as he is.

Whereas the smart choice would be to go with Senator Clinton — she is still standing and so much smarter (with solutions for the problems) then either of the candidates with willies.

So concerned Trolls — stop with the unity crap. Us old farts will NOT vote for the swift boat target. He is not qualified to even be a Senator — he hasn’t done THAT job yet.

  • pm317

Larry, what do we know about his trip to Pakistan which he mentioned in that fundraiser? It was a passing comment, it looked like. He also went to Hyderabad, India. That is an odd place to go to if you are a tourist. Incidentally, Hyderabad has a large (Indian) Muslim population. I want to know why we are being told about this now — Jake Tapper actually is surprised that nobody knew about this trip so far. So much for the reporters, journalists, vetting…

  • lifelong dem leaving party

yikes, you seem to be expending quite a lot of energy trying to convince us to either vote for obama or write in someone (i.e., throw away our votes).

looks like fear has set in. looks like the paid obama bloggers have been told to try to stop the bleeding and if they can’t to at least try to prevent us from voting for mccain.

obama knows that us voting for mccain hurts him twice as much as us just not voting or writing in someone or voting for nader or whatever. he thinks if he can convince us not to vote for mccain he’ll find a way to get more votes than mccain, even without us, and still win. that’s why i’m determined to vote for mccain. obama must not be elected.

    bye troll.

  • Cello

Yeah, Obama is the antichrist. The devil. He’s evil. He’d kill your children in their sleep. He hates women. And white people. I’ve heard he drinks the blood of kittens. And when he’s done doing that, he sticks needles in Hillary voodoo dolls.

Don’t you people realize how unhinged you sound? You’re no better than the “Obamatrons” who bash Hillary in exactly the same way.

  • Nancy H. Armstrong

This is my take on the Republicans….they will kneecao Obama…I have watched An American President a few times in the last few weeks. I am reminded of Richard Dreyfus’ character….He says we did run the camapign we wanted because his wife had just died from cancer…He goes on to say excuse my friend he has been away on a hunting trip. He holds up the paper and says the president has a girlfriend. The question of the presidents character is called into question and his approval rank tanks by more than 20 points in just a week.

Well Richard Dreyfus’ character is the Republican Party of today. I know what they will do to Obama. But Obama will not be blamed for the Democrats for losing the election, they will say it is because Hillary divided the party!

  • yttik

Something the DNC should consider (if they ever find their brains) is the impact Obama is going to have on all the other Dem elections. Senators,Reps,Governors. If the Democratic party goes down in history as the ones who tried to get Obama elected, they’ll be loosing elections for years to come. They didn’t even bother to run a background check on the man they wanted to put in the presidency?

  • JM

Depending on the outcome of the Democratic nominating process, I just might become “A Democrat for McCain” while I vote a straight Republican ticket as a protest vote to what I believe to be the DNC’s non-neutral stance in this nominating process. Way to go DNC. Turn your back on the true long time Democratic base so that you may gain some new party members who may leave the Democratic party as quickly as they came.

Just one correction — BO won caucuses because he trained an army of militant thugs to intimidate and berate Hillary supporters…plus they are young, unencumbered and able to attend the caucus for a really footstomping good time.

  • Cello

What’s with all this fear of Republicans? They’re losers. McCain is yet another Bob Dole, and he’ll lose to any Democrat, whether it’s Hillary or Obama.

The right wing wackos will attempt to swift boat whoever the Democratic nominee is. If you think Hillary’s somehow going to be any less smeared than Obama, you’re clueless. The only difference is that with Hillary, the smears will have a lot more to stick to: her negatives are way higher.

But you know what? It won’t matter. Hillary or Obama: either one of them will beat this weak, pro-war, pro-Bush, anti-health-care Republican this time around.

  • lifelong dem leaving party

yttik, i know what you mean. i’ve always voted straight dem, but not only will vote mccain but will also vote for whoever is running AGAINST anyone who supports obama. if they support obama, i don’t trust their judgment. so whoever’s on my ballot, for mayor, city council, school board, senator, governor, congressperson, whatever, if they backed obama i vote for their opponent. and i won’t forget in future years either. if they want us to stay in the party, they need to learn that we are the party, not them. and they need to learn that we expect our party “leaders” to do their job, not just play some kind of game with our lives.

  • yikes

When did Obama call his wife a prostitute (trollop to be exact) and the disgusting “c” word? McCain did both to his own wife Cindy. If he’s willing to call his own wife a word that rhymes with punt in a fit of rage, what on earth will he do when he gets upset with foreign leaders? He is a loose cannon who should not have control of our national security.

As for Iraq, McCain needs to have Lieberman by his side all of the time to give him a quick jab in the ribs every time he forgets who is fighting who.

Say what you want about Obama, no matter how angry you are towards him, he is nowhere near as repulsive as McCain.

If you actually knew your history, Ross Perot was more of a detriment to Bill Clinton in the 1992 election; it was George HW Bush who wanted Perot back in the race. As far as 1996, Clinton smashed Dole and Perot was not that big of a factor.

    Caution! racist statement to follow:

The entire African American population of the United States is about twelve per cent. That is not a count of registered, likely-to-vote African Americans, not even a count of African Americans of voting age.

All. Less than 12 per cent.

Women represent 54 per cent of the voting age population.

Some of those women are African American. Let us lop off a very generous 8 percent. Still leaves 49 plus percent.

Some of those women are Republicans. Let us lop off a very generous 40 per cent.

Hmm. Still leaves 30 per cent of the voting age population. Or almost three times the entire African American population. Women who are very angry at Obama’s arrogant, snarky dismissal of Clinton and all women.

And, unlike Obama and Howard Dean, I do not believe that EVERY African American is going to vote for Obama.

There are even more complications to an Obama general election campaign.

People of both genders and all ethnic backgrounds in Florida and Michigan are going to be very very angry at Obama’s continued efforts to discount their votes.

Catholics (the Bob Casey cynical endorsement notwithstanding) are not going to be happy with Obama and his stance on abortion and babies as “problems.”

Italians and Jews are not going to be happy with Obama’s ties to Wright, Khalidi, Ferrakhan, et al.

People of both genders and all ethnic backgrounds are going to be very very angry at Obama’s plans for Social Security.

Gays are not going to be happy with Obama’s duplicitous stances on GLBT issues.

Latinos (the cynical Bill Richardson endorsement notwithstanding) are going to be very very angry at Obama’s attempts to disenfranchise Puerto Rico, his machinations to keep them from voting in Nevada, his disrespect of women, etc.

Well now. Just who is who is going to vote for Obama? The Democratic Party leaders? The TV pundits? Republicans in Idaho and Wyoming? Maybe those kids who think he is the Pied Piper really will ask their parents for the car keys so that the can go vote. Or maybe not. Too busy voting for the new American Idol sensation.

Do not for a moment believe the Democratic leadership who confidently declare that all loyal dems will return to the fold in November.

We are angry. Very very angry.

So nice of you to comment on my post, Cello. My answer to you is “I don’t care.” Why should I care about this when I see the horrible way that Hillary Clinton has be maligned by fellow Democrats? As they say, payback is a bitch.

  • Percy

I don’t understand. Those who will not vote for Obama and will write in a random name or stay home …. why? Are you really ok that Obama wins … and that is why you will not cast a vote for the one most likely to beat him .. McCain?

Maybe without your vote for McCain, Obama would win. Is that ok for some of you? passive agressive behavior… that you will not assert a vote for Obama, yet passively want him to win over McCain.

I know that I do not want Obama near the White House, period. I think he is the worst of the 3. Hillary being the best. Therefore, if Hillary is not the nominee I clearly vote for McCain … I do not want Obama in the White House.

Also… if it was Hillary and Obama… I would vote for McCain … that is how strongly positioned I am against Obama.

Please explain the “I will not vote” or “I will write in someone” instead of voting for Obama.

    please explain.

speaking of kennedy, where’s caroline been lately? too embarrassed to show her face after letting her children con her into supporting a racist, sexist, america hating, lying, arrogant, clueless, jerk? maybe she got tired of michelle trying to pretend she’s jackie by wearing that pink suit. if she is still on obama’s side, i’m concerned for her sanity.

  • JM

    Further,

    1) I am not particulary fond of abortion. In fact, I think it is evil. But if a female wants to kill an unborn baby in such a horrific way, she’s the one that will have to answer for it.

    2) Affirmative action? Still talking about something that companyies already do on their own. Give me a break.

    3) As for consumer rights, I don’t think there would be much of a difference.

    4) Freedom of speech? If it prevents the filth that I see on youtube or the random acts of unkindness that I have witnessed in blogs, if that is what it takes for people to be civil to eachother, than maybe a little less freedom of speech is necessary to get the country back on track morally.

if april polls were accurate, president kerry would be running for reelection.

and national polls are meaningless – remember popular vote vs. electoral college? see state by state, e.g. ohio, pennsylvania, and florida, necessary states to win a general – hillary does better than obama in all 3.

and obama’s not getting those red states he won caucuses in. and wright sunk him in missouri, where he beat hillary by a nose. another hugely necessary state.

and btw, even if your polls were useful, they don’t take into account the so-called swiftboating.

  • JM

    Cello,

How are you so certain that true Democrats answering the poll questions? The way I see it is that the pollsters can not verify with certainty if someone is a Democrat, Independent or Republican. So when I see a poll that indicates Democratic voter preference, I take it with a grain of salt.

Not sure why you’re a Hillary supporter, JM. You sound like a standard issue right winger to me. Hillary doesn’t share your beliefs on abortion, affirmative action, or free speech. So why are you voting for her?

  • JM

    To the contrary,

I care about Hillary because I care about America. Obama has an underlying belief system that I think will harm America. Additionally, I don’t appreciate thuggery, which contrary to your post about not witnessing it for yourself, there was a lot of it occurring. If mob intimidation is the way that one chooses to win an election, then don’t expect my support.

Hillary looks, talks, thinks, presents herself presidential. Barack does not.

I finally grew up. There is a reason why progressives never win elections. It’s because a majority of Americans see through so much of their bs. So if you think that calling me a rightwinger hurts my feelings, it doesn’t.

The Republicans don’t anticipate trouble winning a racist campaign. They did in 1980 and 1984. Recall that the “optimistic” Reagan campaign Obama so admires tellingly began in Philadelphia, MS.

  • http://www.gallup.com/poll/106336/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Maintains-Lead-Democratic-Race.aspx Cello

That doesn’t explain why you’re voting for someone you disagree with on so many important issues. Do you not think that Hillary is a progressive?

  • JM

Abortion is a personal choice. I personally would NEVER choose it. As I wrote before, if a female wants to put herself through a horrific experience, then she will have to answer for it. Yes, I believe in God. I hope that doesn’t offend your Democratic sensibilities.

My statement about affirmative action did not indicate that I was against it. From my personal experience, many companies already take it upon themselves to promote diversity in the workplace. I don’t believe that John McCain would greatly affect affirmative action.

And since I question why you keep mentioning “freedom of speech”, maybe you should clarify your statement. I don’t see how John McCain’s election would hurt freedom of speech.

Good riddance. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

  • JM

I do think that Hillary has some progressive credentials. I consider myself a moderate Democrat with some progressive and conservative viewpoints. I am not willing to pigeonhole myself.

  • yikes

Actually I learned of this site when someone was attacking you all on another blog. People were saying that you all were spewing racist remarks, and that you are Republicans trying to make it seem like you’re for Hillary while undermining the party. I argued that people shouldn’t call you racists and wanted to see for myself.

I was shocked to see so many self-proclaimed Democrats actively advocating a McCain presidency. I understand being angry, I understand feeling frustrated at the other candidate, I understand wanting to write someone else in, I was at that point in the opposite direction. I can not understand how any Democrat could actually vote for McCain. It makes no sense.

Why do I come here? It’s kind of like watching a train wreck…I want to look away, but it makes me so sad to see this level of anger that I just can’t help it. The poll that showed the division in the party really hit me hard. I feel like we’ve lost our reason for fighting in the first place – the horrible situation Bush has placed us in. Perhaps I feel guilty for ever thinking and saying that I wouldn’t vote for Hillary. I haven’t been told to do anything, and frankly prefer seeing people with differing viewpoints than sitting in an echo chamber.

Maybe some of you are Republican plants like the folks on other blogs are saying, I hope not, but I honestly don’t know how else to explain how people can continuously laud Hillary and never discuss the unscrupulous actions of the Republicans. The pro-Obama sites may be nauseating at times, but at least they stop once in a while to address other issues relevant to progressives.

  • JM

Now I have a comment for you.

If you are so concerned about basic freedoms in our country, then maybe you should have a better understanding of Barack Obama’s belief that Islamic law is a postive thing. No, I am not calling him a Muslim with that statement, although I believe that he probably was a Muslim at some point in his life. How could you support someone who has actually verbalized his admiration for Islamic law?

Islamic law is contrary to much of what Americans hold dear.

  • jimbo

    Hey boys and girls,

Here’s a way out for everybody.

Everyone take the pledge, let Howard Dean know:

We can put a stop to the FL – MI problem. Take the pledge:

“If MI and FL are not brought into the national picture immediately and their votes counted, and if Obama is the Democratic nominee, I will not vote for president in November. If MI and FL are returned to the national picture immediately and their votes counted, then I will vote for the Democratic nominee whomever it is”.

If enough of us take the pledge then Dean has few choices. If he makes the wrong choice then Obama will have no chance to be President. Period. The only chance for Obama and choice for Dean is to bring FL and MI into the equation, now.

Level the playing field the way it should, then we can live with the results. But if Dean doesn’t then fuck them and their hopes.

This is why it is so hard to engage with some Obama supporters. In reading through this string of comments I mentioned that many view Obama as “sexist (at least)” based on yikes comment describing McCain as a misogynist. Then suddenly you equate that statement with saying Obama is “the anti-Christ.” Quite a leap, there…don’t you think?

I think that Obama is a deeply flawed candidate to field in a general election. This is especially true when we know the Rethugs will fight this election (like they ALWAYS do) on patriotism. What else have they got? Do I think that Obama is anti-American? No. I think he went to that Church to get some street-cred for the world of Chicago politics. That shows very bad judgement, but there you have it.

He’s not trying to get elected from Hyde Park anymore, he’s going to go against a guy who spent 5 years in a POW camp for the Presidency. The Republicans have more than enough (much of it true for a change) to weave a very negative narrative about Obama and it is naive to believe that they won’t hit him like a train over and over…ITS THEIR NATURE.

This primary is not just about the Obama/Dean/ MoveOn/DNC coalition’s efforts to “crush” and deny Sen. clinton’s campaign, aided by an in the tank media. It is about “control” of the Democratic party now and for years to come.

They want a “controllable, owned” President, just as the R’s have had with GW Bush. They know “a Clinton” is not controllable and therefore seek to destroy them.

The “Far-left wing” of the Democratic party , an element that I thought had abated with the demise of Howard Dean’s run, is hell bent to “transform” the party to fit their agenda, now and forever.

They found them a new candidate, “their half-black Lincoln” and will stop at nothing in trying to force him on all of us.( *to verify the previous, please go to “Burning at the Grass Roots. com—explore and read all, esp sample chapter on Kerry. The author Dana Dunnan relates how he as an operative for the “Dean/MoveOn movement” tried to “swift-boat” Kerry before RNC did. Dean’s movement ironically used race as their trap for Kerry!) It is hard to believe that the Kerry’s(J. 0r T.) have ever seen this book, otherwise how could they support the same Democratic group that tried to “destroy” them. Perhaps “the white liberal guilt” factor is at work?

They chose Obama before he even became a Senator and helped elect him. The Senate was to be, just as it has been, merely a “jumping off point”.

The “far-left’s” vitriole and pernicious attacks completely turn me off. I have never seen anything like this from Democrats, and thought such vile individuals only inhabited the “far-right”! To me they are a mirror image of the extreme far-right.

I have been a voting Democrat for 46 years and have never witnessed such behavior. I naively thought we were “the good guys”, and were above such.

I have never made ad-hominem attacks on Obama or his supporters. I never will. I have suffered through 8 years of GW bush without making such attacks on him. I have certainly “attacked” his policies, I know what they are and find them despicable. I do not “know” Bush, so expressions of personal “hatred” or personal attacks would only reflect on me, denoting a lack of civility and rationality.

The “far-right, swiftboating”, Rovian element of the Bush supporters is my nemesis because of their lack of civility, and their willingness to wage ad-hominem, political “warfare”. I now feel the same way about the “far-left” of my party. I will never coalesce with them under any circumstance.

This is my last year as a voting, donating Democrat. I will continue to donate to, and support HRC as my personal choice, not for HRC as “a Democratic candidate”.

By the GE I will become an independent, and unless HRC is the nominee I will hold my vote, or cast it for McCain and hope he will govern moderately. Neither I, nor the Democratic party have any further “need” for each other. The “far-left wingers” now control the party, and it shall be my goal henceforth to try to “tear” the party down. starting at the top with Dean, Brazile, Shrum, Soros, MoveOn, DailyKos, ad infinitum!

I apologize to all for this example of “typed verbosity. I certainly hope it makes “a bit of” sense, and shall cause others to dig deeper as to whom we HRC supporters are truly “fighting”!

agree, jm. am still contributing to and supporting hillary all the way. but will vote mccain if she doesn’t get the nomination.

sadly, given the state of our so-called journalists and so-called leaders, it will be very hard for hillary to overcome all the obstacles they keep putting in her way. a lesser candidate would’ve folded long ago. but she’s amazingly strong and keeps hanging in there. i think our primary hope is that somehow, despite the msm’s desperate efforts to prevent it, the truth about obama becomes known to the majority of americans.

  • TeakWoodKite

It is because I care about america that I agree with JM.

  • street_parade

Yikes, we have a Democratic candidate who’s positions are similar to Obama’s — but much more thorough IMO, who has withstood years of attack from the Rethugs and their MSM enablers (proving she can take anything they dish out) and seems to have complete control of her temper (or she would have kicked Keith Oblubberhead’s a** by now).

I believe when the dust has settled she will be the winner of the nomination, so I’ll be voting for Hillary in November. I hope you will consider it as well.

  • JM

Yes, but the biggest factor may very well be Obama himself. The more he opens his mouth, the more stupid things comes out of it. His wife doesn’t help much, either, and I am very thankful for that!

  • blobert

It’s funny to read you parroting Krugman’s comment on what Obamites say about Hillary Clinton.
I’ve been reading Clinton hit pieces on Daily Kos for over about 2 years.
Since the primaries, their recommended diaries are frequently 100% Clinton hit pieces.

  • blobert

If Obama had sense, he would have taken the vice presidency, used it to prove himself, learned from the Clintons, and in 8 years would be a shoe-in.

If HRC lost, he would still have gotten good visibility, and over 4 years could build trust with a wider range of the population.

He runs now, he’s still an unknown to most of the country, has divided the democratic base in half with unsavory campaign tactics directed at Clinton and at her supporters on the web, will be easier to knock off and when he loses he is OUT (and good riddance).

  • yikes

Regardless of my previous anger, I will vote for Hillary if she wins.

Many of us are women who for some strange reason don’t like being called racists, whores, etc. for not supporting Obama. Some of us thought we could hold our noses and vote for him, as we have done for other Dems in the past. However, what made me decide that I could NEVER vote for Obama was the Rev. Wright. Not only were Barack and Michelle parishioners for many years but they exposed their children to these hateful rantings. And Obama is trying to convince us that his oh so great judgment outweighs Hillary’s 30 years of experience?

  • jd

    NO OBAMA !!!

    End of story.

  • yikes

    LOL!

I was part of the Dean movement. I was a Meetup host and went to Iowa in 2000, I was even there for the scream (yeargh!!!)

Yes we want to transform the party, and yes we tend to be more progressive, but it’s more about style than substance. We want a strong party that works to uphold core Democratic values like the New Deal and choice, and protecting the Constitution. We believe that the way to accomplish this is to make the Republicans fight for every seat and local election. The Republicans have controlled the political dialog for far too long, and the Democrats have done little to stop them. Our party lost its voice over the last 20 years, and we want them to find it. I got sick and tired of seeing three Republicans for every Democrat on cable news, and I was even more frustrated when that Democrat was too scared to stick up for the party.

As far as I know there was no secret plan to try to sink Kerry. People worked very hard to help get him elected. I know of groups that crossed state lines on the weekends in order to register Democrats to vote for the general election. People gave him money and volunteered for him. No one is in control of this movement, it is bottom up. The good thing about it is that it encourages creativity, the bad thing about it is that people can do and say whatever they want. That’s what scares the status quo Dems who keep trying to stifle the grassroots. Anyone with an idea and a willingness to work hard can become a leader and do their own thing.

Since 2000 the organizations created by people who supported Dean are working on getting people elected to local positions, and have brought all sorts of different Democrats into the fold. I even had Republicans regularly come to my Dean Meetup. People had varying political beliefs, really the only unifying platform was a desire to get the Republicans out of office. Eventually that morphed into a desire to change the party as we saw that the party elites were more interested in keeping power than in risking anything to oust the Republicans.

Old Deaniacs are not all Obama supporters. A huge chunk of them were big fans of Edwards, and some even like Hillary. The only reason why she is less supported by grassroots types is because her friends have always put us down when all we really wanted to do was help the party. If there is a vast left wing conspiracy out to destroy Hillary I know nothing of it.

    Very true.

What are they thinking? No FL and MI? A 48 Star flag? 2.3 million voters shafted? Don’t count the military votes even in 2 enormous states?

Okay, so FL would be a fight, probably a straight up loss.

    MO is a loss.

And PA–I mean Reverend Wright is a total deal breaker.

Clearly NO red state would go for Obama.

Better count FL and MI or I have to donate to a 527 or find out how to get off Dean’s mailing list and on to the other guy’s.

Count the votes. Give me back my 50 star flag.

  • JM

    Yikes,

You seem intelligent to me. The one thing that really caught my eye in your comments was “all we really waned to do was help the party”. I do not really agree with that assertion. As far as I am concerned, all the far left segment of the Democratic party wants to do is to become the dominate segment of the Democratic party. With left wing progressives, there is a remarkable attitude that mirrors George Bush’s attitude of “you are either with us or against us”. I will never tie myself to the fortunes of a group that doesn’t believe in compromise. Compromise may not get you everything you want, but it can definitely make things better. As for Barack, I don’t believe he will be a uniter because he IS one of the “all or nothing” ideologues. The grass roots are not necessarily in line with the majority of the party. If they try to grab too much power for themselves, then the majority will push back hard. Extreme progessivism does not typically win national elections. That is why the Democrats only seem to win when the approach politics from the center.

  • sisterdo

    So true.

I cannot believe this. I mean it. That is the most insane thing I have ever heard, Oprah would have ripped into a white KKK person (and they were poor, squeezed, feeling angry about their own lot– I mean if you heard their sob story you might understand it too).

But Oprah and her vodoo guru are telling people it’s okay to say people deserved September 11th 4 days later, to scream the N word in front of children on Christmas day w/ sexual moves, and visit sworn enemy Qaddafi?

Hatred is okay. Obama sat in those pews of hate, and lied and said he was a new– not angry, postracial guy.

Obama is a liar, pure and simple. This church does not represent the AA community. It’s extremist hate, there is no other black church that said we deserved Sept. 11th.

If Obama’s issues run that deep, he can have his sympathy, he can go get therapy, but he can’t run a country if that’s how much he hates it.

    He’s not POTUS material.

And, in my country, FL and MI count. And to Obama they did too– he campaigned in FL and said FL mattered in his SC speech. Then he lost, and now the rule-breaker Obama doesn’t want to count them.

And here’s some more “reality” for you. Polls in April are useless compared to polls in October. If you knew anything at all about the political season beyond your recent swoon over an empty suit, Cello, you would know that. And you would also know that nobody wins a presidency without Florida and Michigan. To assume they will be happy being “pretend seated” without benefit of the revote Barry blocked, is folly. We ALL know what a revote would have meant and we all know Obama is stealing this nomination by blocking them. He can kiss our asses. McCain looks wonderful next to him.

Well yikes you just write in whoever the hell you want to write in as I will. I will write in Hillary Clinton because that is the message that I want to send. The message of an angry woman who saw the media, the DNC, Democratic Leadership (there’s an oxymoron for ya) and most of Left Blogostan prove what a bunch of misogynistic pricks they are.

I have stated for months that I will never vote for war-monger McCain or Misogynist Obama. And I won’t vote for anyone else just because they’ve got a “D” behind their name. Congress has got a bunch of those 5th Columnists; they’re called Blue Dog Democrats and they are helping to destroy everything the Democratic Party ever stood for. But then so are Pelosi, Dean, Reid, Kerry, Kennedy et al.

United? I don’t want to be united with these people. A lying, corrupt Democrat is no better than a lying corrupt Republican. So save your “concern” for those that care. “We are mad as hell and ain’t gonna take it anymore!”

    Win Without Us!

  • kenoshaMarge

Because they believe in the end that the base will trot on home to papa and vote for anyone with a “D” after their name. We, the base, have been taken for granted and dismissed as unimportant because they are convinced that in the end we have no place else to go. Get back in your proper place “girls”, and that would be in a subordinate role.

But then what do you expect from a party that can’t get anything done when they are in the Minority or in the Majority? Or a party that runs on getting us out of Iraq, wins the elections in 2006 and then spends the next 2 years wringing their hands about how all those nasty Republicans won’t let them do that?

America used to be the “Can Do” country. No wonder we aren’t any more with the Republican “We can do you and make you like it” Party on one hand, and the Democratic “No Can Do” Party on the other.

I will watch as Obama gets his male-parts handed to him by the media if Hillary is vanquished, and I won’t care. He’s been given a free ride and to quote one of my favorite actresses, “fasten your seat belt it’s gonna be a bumpy night”. And once the media quits ravaging Hillary Clinton, if she is defeated, they will salivate over a far less formidable candidate. And I won’t care.

    Win Without Us!

  • kenoshaMarge

It’s because I care about America that I agree with both of you. If Obama wins then once again the media will have chosen our candidate for us and then will be free to disembowel him. We’ve seen this movie before and it didn’t have a happy ending for us.

Then when the people of this country ignored the media and went about sending a message back in 2006 and elected a majority to both the House and the Senate, the Democrats, in full wimp mode ignored the reason for that majority and kept funding a war they were supposed to stop. And yes, Saint Obama, the anti-war candidate voted to fund the war. Why would someone against the war vote to fund it, you ask. Well they do that because the Republicans have convinced the public, with their co-conspirators the media, that if the war isn’t funded then G.I. Joe or Jane with be stuck in Iraq without a bullet to their name.

Obama votes to fund the Iraq Occupation for the same reason Democrats voted to give Bush the power to do it; political expediency. They knew then that voting against the Resolution would in many cases, given the mood of the country, be political suicide.

But Hillary Clinton did not just vote for it without adding some caveats and warnings. She said quite plainly and I quote:

“My vote is not, however, a vote for any new doctrine of pre-emption, or for uni-lateralism, or for the arrogance of American power or purpose — all of which carry grave dangers for our nation, for the rule of international law and for the peace and security of people throughout the world.”

    And then she said:

“So it is with conviction that I support this resolution as being in the best interests of our nation. A vote for it is not a vote to rush to war; it is a vote that puts awesome responsibility in the hands of our President and we say to him – use these powers wisely and as a last resort. And it is a vote that says clearly to Saddam Hussein – this is your last chance – disarm or be disarmed.”

And for that she has been consistantly portrayed as a war-monger by the left.

Obama has said he’s agin it except when he’s voting to fund it. Hypocrisy anyone? And just one of oh-so-many incidences of his b.s.

    I don’t get it.

No one has to “swift boat” Obama – - – he has already done it to himself.

His own words and actions has already done him in. No amount of money will get Obama any more than the electoral votes in D.C.

At least with Hillary it will be a contest with McCain and she could win.

  • Mom4Hillary

As a woman who has voted for the Democratic nominee since Carter, I assure you I will firmly cast my vote for McCain this November if the DNC doesn’t respect the existing primary vote counts in Florida and Michigan. If the DNC continues to help Obama steal the nomination by using this tactic, the DNC doesn’t deserve me anymore. I have too much integrity for them. Go Hillary. Don’t quit. Thanks for fighting for what’s right.

  • mimi

“Republicans are totally lacking in morals and values.”

I would say that applies to Democrats as well now.

For me, it’s too finite to be a difference now.

They didn’t impeach Bush/Cheney just to name one thing.

The Party is behaving this way precisely because of attitudes like yours. That even in the face of their own lack of morals, values and fair play that we will unite because we believe the Republicans are worse. Well I don’t. Not anymore. Not after this horrific Primary Season in which Party Leaders have shown themselves to be mean-spirited, petty, vindictive and downright stupid. it’s their stupidity that I won’t forgive them for. As well as their determination to BLAME Hillary for EVERYTHING.

Hey, they’re planning to blame Hillary for Obama’ eventual slaughter. Because they already know he won’t win and they don’t care because the plan is to scapegoat the Clintons. If they don’t capture the White House, then at the very least they intend to achieve their goal of getting rid of Hillary and Bill.

They also intend to make Hillary campaign her heart out for Obama and if he loses they’re going to say that she and Bill didn’t work hard enough. Just like what Kerry believes. Kerry still won’t accept the fact that he was too punkass to stand up to the Swiftboaters. He’d rather believe the Clintons didn’t do enough for him and even sabotaged his campaign. Wrong! He allowed lies to stand for truth. He wouldn’t defend his own reputation. He has no guts. In the end, I wonder how, indeed, he did win those medals?

But I digress. I love Hillary, but I will not tow the Party line after their behavior this election cycle. At some point you have to stand your ground. I realize I should have done it long ago with these assholes because the signs were there.

Sorry, as much as I dislike the idea of a McCain presidency, I loathe the idea of an Obama one even more.

  • PMS

I was shocked to see so many self-proclaimed Democrats actively advocating a McCain presidency.

Better to stand on my feet and vote for McCain than fall on my knees and worship Obama. I will not give the keys to the White House to that narcissistic megalomaniac. W has been a disaster. Obama is W-2.

  • PMS

Yes Obama will be Swift Boated — they don’t have to make up anything.

The GOP won’t even need to “Swiftboat” Obama. They can just “Rubber-ducky” him.

  • mimi

“I’ve heard he drinks the blood of kittens.”

Yeah, he likes it on the rocks while he smokes a cigarette.

Your statement is part of the problem for me. This attempt to gaslight sane people by telling them they are ‘unhinged.’ That WE are the problem.

The Party will get NOWHERE by calling me stupid and crazy.

Keep at this approach, however. It’s really working well for ya.

This is a point that has to be hammered.

President Carter! DON’T FORGET FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN!

  • mimi

I’m marching to the same drummer in your parade:

Obama is unelectable! (But I knew that even before the Wright flap.)

  • PMS

JM, you echo my thoughts exactly. I saw the “thuggery” at my precinct convention. I was reminded of the old Warren Beatty movie “Reds”.

When the Democratic Party stops being “democratic”, it loses people like me. Parties have flipped before. perhaps we’re seeing one now. Our system is engineered for two parties, which makes a third party difficult.

I live in a Red State that had a chance to be at least Purple. If it was a close election in my state between Obama and McCain, out of a love for my country, I’d vote McCain. But if Obama is the nominee, this VERY LARGE state will be solidly Red, so I will have the luxury of writing-in Hillary.

I HOPE against long odds, however, that Hillary will be our nominee. To that end I am working and giving. We (the USA) have a chance.

  • Rob Gard

I initially believed that the Republicans were willing to accept the loss of the Presidency in 2008, knowing that any Democrat elected to that office would have to raise taxes, could be blamed for the “loss” of Iraq, and could be tied up by the Republicans surviving in Congress so that they would be unable to clean up many of the messes left by Bush. If the Democratic President were able to get the economy back on track, then in 2012, the Republicans could point to the general ineffectiveness of the Democrats, re-take the White House, and commence to plunder the economy once again. Now I think that Republicans believe that they can actually win this thing against Obama, and won’t have to put their avarice on hold for four years.

  • mimi

Yeah, maybe they are beginning to go into panic mode.

But there’s no need for us to do that. I think that all of us who feel so strongly have to judge the GE on a state-by-state basis. I live in a blue state. I should be able to sit out the election with ease, or write in Hillary. However, if the polls show McCain having a shot at winning my blue state, I will be more than happy to tip the scales for him. And here’s why:

I know Senator Clinton would have won my blue state, handily. So why did the Party choose the wrong nominee? It would be a political disgrace if McCain won my blue state. But it would show the Democratic Party how absolutely stupid they are and of ALL the world to see.

  • tinat

Many of us are women who for some strange reason don’t like being called racists, whores, etc. for not supporting Obama.

And some of us Obama supporters don’t like being called cultists, or robots, or sexist because we believe in our candidate ..it works both ways!

  • PMS

You should have come to my caucus, cello.

You would have seen older women (and men) pushed out of the way and shouted down by the Obama contingent.

You would have seen duplicate sign-in sheets suddenly floating around in the hands of the Obama supporters.

You would have seen the pro-Obama “Secretary” having Clinton and Obama supporters sign sheets separately, which she then “took up” and kept separate.

You would have seen a gathering of 151 people that lined up against two opposite sides of the room, counted off and divided by Clinton vs. Obama, have a difference of ONE person in the total (C-75 to O-76), yet voted 2:1 for Obama when the caucus results were announced.

Thuggery and thievery, simple and clear. The only thing I like “Chicago-style” is my pizza.

  • apishapa

We want a strong party that works to uphold core Democratic values like the New Deal and choice, and protecting the Constitution.

Unfortunately you do not seem to be aware that Obama has voted “present” most of the time when women’s issues are the subject. You may not be aware that Obama has made some statements that do not seem to hold Social Security as an inviolate sacred cow. He has made some privatizing noises. You maybe missed his “Harry and Louise” mailers condemning Universal Health Care. You must have missed all those “Obamacans” he appeals to. He has been begging Republicans to take over Democratic Caucuses and select the Democratic Candidate. Is this what you want?

You also seem to have missed Hillary Clinton’s passionate speeches about women’s rights as human rights. You didn’t notice her speech in defense of the Constitution during the Military Commissions Act hearings. You most likely did not notice that while Obama has been carting around gay hating preachers on his campaign, Hillary Clinton has been advocating for gay rights. Hillary has been a passionate defender of Democratic ideals for 40 years.

You missed Obama’s followers calling his opponent a “whore” and her husband (my favorite President) McCarthy. Obama’s wife threatening to withhold support from the Democratic candidate if it is not her husband. And Obama himself indicating that he will get Hillary’s supporters, but she won’t get his. Great democrat there.

So, when did you ever gather this great vision of Obama as a staunch progressive? He bends whichever way the wind blows and I have not been able to make heads or tails of anything he stands for except a generic “change”. Hillary gives specific changes she embraces and states how she intends to achieve her goals. Obama wants us to “hope” and he will get the Republicans to embrace his “unity” scheme. Fat Chance.

  • Salo

The Republicans don’t anticipate trouble winning a racist campaign.

Look outside their limited point of view though.

They are in trouble, the country is in trouble, the atmosphere, internally, is toxic.

They seem to have difficulty understanding their victories are not victories.

The more they cheat and lie to gain control, the more they lose control, meaning they do not achieve their objectives, they lose more power internationally, they are regarded as hicks, and they LOST two wars. The Republicans are cows. How are their internal enemies playing them? They have no clue, they are that stupid, that much Paris Hilton.

Can’t play big man when your country is no longer regarded as a player, because, you know, you stink, and you’re too stupid to get it, and Putin, say, can manipulate your every move. Which he does, IMO.

And when they step out of the moment, they understand they have lost tremendously, and really, who is manipulating them, and why? But this, you know, it feeds the Paris Hilton in them, the need to be recognized for their personality, since they have no talent. Just like all the other narcissists we have polluting our government’s infrastructure, just flatter the morons, and have a go at them.

They’re broken, and all the momentary fervor of the bully won’t change it.

Their little IQ’s are NAILED, it’s pretty easy to throw Olberman, say, into a spin.

Reading the article about Matthews, it could be the republican party, couldn’t it?

And Dean, too, their democratic counterparts.

I mean, they are so disconnected from reality, they can be, and are, easily manipulated.

  • simon

    Olberman is a bore.

    Period.

Why do you think he’s so important?

He’s a sexist hack, has illusions of being a journalist, a pedantic no talent who can’t write, and he engages in questionable activities, in regard to his, um, credibility.

    He’s a stooge.

Corrupt men are easy to push around, just drag a 100.00 bill through a press room, right, and see who follows, the Paula Joneses of the press.

  • mimi

“Perhaps I feel guilty for ever thinking and saying that I wouldn’t vote for Hillary.”

As well you should. It’s part of the problem. Part of the reason for this great divide. I had planned to support the nominee whoever that was at the start of the Primary. And in case you think that I would never vote for an AA, I’m black. I voted for Jackson and Sharpton.

My anti-Obama stance came as a result of his lack of experience and qualifications compared to Hillary’s; his campaign’s playing of the race card covertly and irresponsibly while blaming the Clintons, something I believe is going hurt the AA community irreparably in the future and in ways Jackson or Sharpton never did, regardless of all the negative press and bad feelings whites harbor for them; and finally the irrational Hillary-hatred online where people proclaimed, as you yourself have, that they would never vote for her. The vitriol spewed at me, months before the Wright flap ever appeared forced me into the realization way back when that they were the ones who had no interest in Party unity.

    So why should I?

Now that it’s crunch time and you people feel that you have it in the bag since you have intimdated the Party into the “if Obama doesn’t get the nomination, and the Super Delegates decide this thing they will have STOLEN the nomination. That along with the disenfranchisment of millions of voters in FL & MI. Now you guys realize that you HAVE to have Hillary’s supporters to win. Now you want to make nice.

I’m not a Republican. I’m a lifelong Democrat who has voted in EVERY ELECTION, Primary and most local Primaries as well. I haven’t missed watching a Convention on air since I was small child at my late mother’s knee. I am telling you that OBAMA CAN’T WIN!

For all the reasons listed here and then some. The AA community can act like a bunch of spoiled brats if they want to and threaten to exit the Party, riot or whatever else they want to do if this man doesn’t get the nomination, but seriously, people better start doing the math: a 12% voting bloc cannot bring it hom for Obama if he doesn’t have the substantial support of women, blue collar voters plus the 16% latino minority vote.
Obama and his posse think that they can apologize and smooth things over once he has the nomination in place, but he’s wrong. He’s already overexposed and his words are going to fall on deaf ears. The dude has lost his luster.
Where was the Party leadership in all this? Where was the sage voice of experience to tell this guy before he ran: be patient in another 4 years or 8, the nomination and the WH can be yours.

The only way he’ll put out a win is more of the dirty politcs he’s come from with mysterious unsealings of divorce papers, or if McCain’s cancer comes out of remission or drops dead. Otherwise, Obama has about as much chance of being elected Dog Catcher.

And you all need to face that “dems da facts!

  • Salo

If Obama is the Presidential nominee every other dem down ticket should have something nice to say about him.

He buried Dole in ad money in the winter/spring.

And the Republicans have the Presidency right now.

I want to add another point here. So far we have,

    1. Wright (GoP’s 527s)
    2. FL and MI (people from that state will be loathe to vote for him considering what he has done so far); people from other states will also won’t vote because of Obama’s undemocratic stance.
    3. this new point is that McCain does not need to do anything drastic in those two states — all he has to do is to say this was the man who did not want your votes counted in the primary — repeating that line in every rally will doom Obama. No special ads/fixtures needed.

BTD at talkleft has some new polls where Clinton wins handily over McCain in some battleground states but Obama does not. Think electability in more ways than one. Don’t fall for their line that he is following a different electoral map — not after Wright, could have been possible before.

  • mimi

It’s not the skeletons in Obama’s closet that frighten me.

    It’s HIM!

If you look into any politican’s closet the devil is liable to jump out.

This is purely about a man who began his campaign declaring that he was different, better. HE IS NOT.

And worse, his command of the issues is not as fluid as Hillary’s. She can speak without script on the issues. Obama only stutters and says ‘uh’ a lot. Very much like Bush.

Then there’s the experience factor. He has 3 full years in the Senate. Hillary, 1 term +. He has NO EXPOSURE TO DIPLOMATIC CIRCLES and God knows we need someone right now who has. Sorry, but 4 years in Indonesia as a mere child does not count. And suddenly springing on everybody that you spent 3 weeks in Pakistan while still in college is pretty paultry too. Can you imagine what the Swiftboaters are going to make out of those 3 weeks in Pakistan.

Geez, the Ad Campaigns write themselves.

Besides, no where on his resume does he have any experience listed with American allies. And he blew that opportunity by not convening a single committee meeting as Chairman of his Nato Foreign Relations Committee. He was too busy running for president.

    The man is unelectable.

I can not understand how any Democrat could actually vote for McCain. It makes no sense.

Not everybody is a Democrat. Not everybody is a progressive. Some people think the only thing less odious than the post-Gingrich Republican Party is the invertebrate, anorchic (sic), goddamn near useless Democratic Party which has not had the stones or the smarts to function as an opposition party.

Since the only thing it seems to be able to do consistently is bend over and spread its cheeks, it needs to learn that this is not just another lifestyle choice.

Yes, that IS a homophobic metaphor. Just introducing a little rhetorical diversity: racism and misogyny are becoming monotonous.

The race thing is always so controversial it could backfire. But I like it. Better yet she could/should run adds showing Obamas Senate Distrcit he represents with all the slums, he and Rezko made a fortune from. While he lives in his Auchi/Rezko bought million dollar house.

As opposed to the more prepared and factually (correction, equally “fauxually”)backed swift boat plans for Hillary?

    ROFLMAO

  • JM

    Hi nette60,

It’s great when people get beyond race and base their decisions on facts. Hillary Clinton is definitely better prepared to be president. Race shouldn’t matter, preparedness should.

    Great post, Mimi.

  • JM

I agree with you, Mimi. My vote will be a protest vote. It will be the slap that the Democratic party leadership needs to wake their sorry arses up.

Obama-Odinga:50-50 Split Demands Sound SOOOO FAMILIAR…

The news that Odinga wants a 50-50 split in Kenya’s cabinet made me dig deeper…and wow, there are some interesting Obama-Odinga similarities/links….and they way Odinga ran his campaign sounds eerily familiar, too!(see the Newsweek Intl. article link). An analysis by a Kenyan immigrant to the US cited in this piece also brings up Obama’s weaknesses, vis a vis Odinga…

Thanks sisterdo. I have seen your handle on two or three different sites, including TM. I like your fiery posts!

  • JM

Actually, the name is nomobama as in “NO MOre Bama”!

  • JM

Thanks, Nette60. Why don’t people understand this? Wow, imagine if someone like Martin Luther King were the candidate? That would be someone I could support. I believed him to be authentic, non-violent, and non-racist. He had a powerful message.

Obama is no MLK. And he’s no RFK either.

  • lifelong dem leaving party

why should every other dem down ticket have something nice to say about obama? should they lie? sorry, you’re the troll. bye, bye.

  • lifelong dem leaving party

uppity, i look forward to seeing the swift boat contact info. i’ve already bookmarked mccain’s site, to contribute to him the minute obama’s nominated, if that unfortunate event occurs. but i don’t have a clue how to contribute to the 527s. and i definitely want to do so.

    win without us.

  • lifelong dem leaving party

me too. but the only acceptable resolution is the full crediting of the fl and mi votes, not the phony crap dean and his crowd are trying to pull.

  • romicro

Something is amiss in a primary season that’s been going on as long as this with nothing more having been decided by now. I too thought of leaving the party but all of the alternatives are even worse.
I’ll either sit it out or just check the down ballot boxes and let McCain have this one. See ya in 2012- maybe!

  • Karma

That was the deal breaker for me too.

How he treated the people in his district.

    Yikes,

A write-in vote is a cast-away vote unless the candidate has filed with EACH state as a write-in candidate.

So by asking them to write-in Hillary you are asking them to throw their vote away….essentially not show up to the polls. Which is exactly what Donna Brazille wants, and has said on air and in abusive email.

I doubt know if you are an paid op like you accuse us of being. However, if Obama has the nom and there is no write-in status for Hillary.

I WILL BE VOTING FOR MCCAIN SO THAT MY VOTE AGAINST OBAMA COUNTS.

That man will not benefit from someone like you or Brazille discrediting my vote against him.

That man will not benefit from subverting democracym and have me on the sideline passing this election up!

I never have stood out before and shame on you for trying to convince people to do it now!

  • Karma

With all this talk about write-in Hillary, if Obama gets the nom. Then we should all review the states and counties rules for write-in candidates.

As we all know the rules change, but it would important to know if those votes would be counted. If not then we can all make informed decisions on whether to vote for McCain, write-in anyway, or sit it out.

Obviously, Hillary’s campaign wouldn’t formally endorse such a plan because we know how well that would go over in MSM, who are already accusing her of destroying the party.

It is better to be armed with info when the ballot is in hand, rather than wonder if that write-in vote carried any weight.
